I'm going to get the G3 on late June or July, but I'd like to install CyanogenMod!
Anyone knows when I'll be able to do that?
Sure I predict July the 15 th 2055.... Come on they haven't even released to us .... And the bootloader may be locked so you may never have cyanogen

Do you really think we won't be able to install Cyanogen? ¬¬''
you have to keep in mind the device still doesn't even have a custom recovery yet(neither has it been released worldwide) and lg put in some interesting things on the phone, other than the fact the bootloader is locked(just like the g2, g pro2, g flex, etc) there seems to be some more partitions in there(2 bootloaders, 2 root checking related partitions, etc) the g3 is going to be a tuff nut to crack and it will take some time for development to move the way people would like it to especially in the custom rom department, and we can expect that after the us/uk variants launch we will see some progress but if you want the device for aosp then get a nexus
This surely must be closer. Custom recovery is now available (if I am correct) ....
Any news?

Custom recovery is not yet available. The T-Mobile variant bootloader came factory unlocked, so they will have TWRP shortly and custom AOSP/AOKP ROMs and kernels soon, but none of the other models yet. It could be next week, could be next month, could be next year for the rest of us.
I'm hopeful that it will be within the month, it seems like quite a few devs are attacking it. They're starting with universal root first though, so we'll just have to be patient.

More than Cyanogen? Let's get real, except for the Nexus Cyanogen is usually pretty buggy even after multiple releases and I never thought it adds any particular value to my experience... Well, except for some weird looking icons and strange choice of color schemes. Sure, if you are into theming your phone there may be something there for you, but the first thing I do with any phone is install a plain black background, select white fonts and move on. If you feel the launcher is buggy there is Nova or apex.

as he says we're working I don't think that he's a random guy. and you know, LG admins don not have the right to announce anything until they arre told to do. So they act more conservative. look at the screenshot attached. Some information are company confidential. But the employees are more free to do it. I mean even if he's not true about next month he must be true about the coming of the update.

One again, a "no-news" and a lack of reliable source...
Don't get me wrong, I'd like the KK update as anyone else but what is provided here is just enough to built hope on some, nothing more.

The G2 already has 4.4 In Korea tho.
World wide, I meant.
Let's study the situation a bit deeper.
reasons we get the update:
1. if we consider the 18 months period of recieving updates, we still have 4 months left. G was released in October, 2012
2. I think except for the initial batch, most of the devices had Jelly bean 4.1.2 while being sold and they still have the same version. So there should be at least an update to a higher version.
3. Physically the device has all the potentials to be upgraded to kitkat and as a previous flagship deserves to get it.
4. the leaked news says that they were testing kitkat on both g pro and g. Now that they are releasing the update for g pro by the end of Q2. There should be an update for g as well since we know that the device doesn't lack anything to run kitkat smoothly.
resons no to get it
1. Why should a company care for a phone from 2012 while there are so many other new phones 2013 onward?
Well I think we have more reasons to get it than not to get it.
to get or not to get. this is the question
and look
Samsung officially announced the models which will get kitkat. Among them you can see Note 2 which was released in September, 2012 and Galaxy S3 which was released in July, 2012!!
So let's keep our fingers crossed

Standard canned response telling nothing at all. They'll forward the request! Dosen't mean LGOG is getting anything as of now.

I didn't forget anything. I have written the question everywhere and I've got the same response as the one you attached. I myself attached one last page.
They are not allowed to announce anything. Actually they don't know anything. They are simply page admins. Whenever they say something it's not true or exact. No one knows exactly when everything will be ready but I believe it will be ready one day not so far from today.

Hopeful
As much as I hope it is released for our phones, a single person who does live chats all day may not be the most rock-solid source. Any number of things could turn out to have happened, from misreading an information sheet before giving you said information to her being just plain wrong.
Thank you for posting this though, it is important that up to date information like that is made public. Its just that I'm not sure if one representative saying it is on its way is a complete confirmation.
Does anyone know how reliable these live chats usually are?

Not very reliable in this case since they are not allowed to give too much information out to the public. I posted a thread after I talked to one of Samsung's live representatives and they told me that the update would come in a matter of weeks. You can check my thread out if you want.

I was talking with AT&T repair regarding my phone freezing when switching from portrait to landscape since the 4.3 OTA and they told me they were not aware of a fix coming out for this, but that 4.4 will probably come out in a couple months and it may replace whatever is causing the problem. When I went to the Samsung Experience center to let them force the OTA onto my phone again to see if that would fix the issue, that tech said the same thing about 4.4 coming out, but he thought my freeze issue is hardware related.

Kit Kat does bring down memory usage, so if you use or want some of the S applications and features that Touchwiz has, you should see better performance due to released memory.
Theoretically that is, I've been on CM11 nightlies for awhile now.

Not to hijack your thread if you consider it off topic but I wonder whether the bootloader will be easier to unlock on the G3. I did some vague research on the G2 and it seems you need to be on a specific version to install custom recoveries and/or use loki patch. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

I am skeptical. I have the G2, and it took a while to achieve root with Kit Kat, and that was achieved by downgrading the bootloader to a previous version (the Jellybean one, which was loki-susceptible) and modifying the kernel to work with it (G2 devs are awesome). Being that the G3 will be released with Kit Kat and never having a previous loki susceptible bootloader, it might be extremely difficult to achieve root. We'll have to see...

Unfortunately, I've never witnessed a developer edition helping with an exploit of a retail version. Well, at least that is the case of Verizon's devices. In fact, seeing photos of a dev edition is kinda discouraging as it suggests that the retail will be most definitely locked down. Maybe it won't be as bad as the Galaxy S5 though (Verizon). Even though I have been exclusivity Samsung for a long time, their Nazi security has forced me to find another brand. Hopefully LG will not try to copy then in that aspect.

All of these companies want corporate business, NOT consumer business; they have to convince corporations that their software/hardware is very secure and un crackable, so thats why they all lock down everything they can, and don't want people rooting/modding/bypassing their security schemes, so dont look for this to change anytime soon, as far as the "big 4" cell phone mfgs are concerned..
My 2 cents, if you value root, do NOT get this phone until it is verified to have an unlocked bootloader on your carrier's version. Do not count on an exploit being found, ever. There are many many sad people in the AT&T and Verizon S5 and Note 3 forums. It has been more than 4 months without root and a huge bounty of around $20k for root. If you normally keep phones for about a year like me that's almost half the life of the phone being locked down. No ad blocking, no titanium backup, no special security apps, and features that have been disabled by the carrier can't be enabled.

Yeah that's not going to help... you can't just switch bootloaders, if you could do that then it would already be unlocked.

I haven't found a kitchen that works with the g3 but if you use the updater script from the lonely ROM or zones ROM it should work worst case you would need to add or remove a few things.
What. International firmware. Work. And tryed it yet
As long as you use the d851 kernel any g3 firmware you turn into a rom should work until L comes out.
So I've been rooting since rooting existed on Android, but one thing that I don't understand is how it works, sort of. I know that google has to release the source, and the device has to have an unlocked boot loader. Then what? I know there's 4 variants of the G3 and the T-Mobile is the only one with an unlocked bootloader.
I'm not throwing a brick against the or anything but would like more info on why things like this happen, and I mean why we are not able to get CM on the G3 fully working. Just curious, and yes I did search.

In my experience unless you are using a nexus device aosp roms are never 100% at least not until the phone is at the year/year and a half mark. Now if your talking about camera not working and stuff like that yeah its going to take time especially since only a hand full of devs are working on it in there spare time. On the plus side they will probably have most of the kinks hammered out before L releases and most of the changes and fixes will translate over.
Well what about the HTC M8, the S5, the Note series, the Xperia Z, all those have AOSP roms and most of those have been out less than a year. Again not complaining

Correct, but not fully working. Is it because LG is not releasing certain things ?or there's not enough developers with this phone?

I would think its because we don't have enough developers committing to the same rom ie we need official cyanogenmod github so the changes eventually end up in one spot that everyone even non g3 users feel comfortable sending a commit to.

Dang...this is like LGs biggest hit ever as a device. You would think that Cyanogen would acquire one.

Somebody will send a request to have a rom reviewed to be added to the official git. It will just take the one person and a little time. If you feel strongly about it you could ask one of the devs working on it to send it to the cm team for review but I bet one of them will after the camera is fixed. whoever does will have there name next to 99% of the commits in the official github so that person will have bragging rights.
Tom Marshall was working on it then intervigilium, who yesterday had some activity on his github and finally invisiblek as well, all with cyanogenmod. Not to mention the actual phone 2 of them are using belongs to...think it was Roman from AOKP. You also have the guys here working on it when they have time. My bet would be a few more weeks and it will be up and running properly.
Good to know, I love this phone however but I'm sure with an AOSP ROM it'll fly!!!

Just curious, and yes I did search.

coding a new rom takes time and devs work on their own dime as so few here actually donate anything to them. Phones and their hardware are becoming way more sophisticated each year and porting any flavor of rom is no longer something easily done. If people are impatient perhaps they need to open their wallets and give the devs some inspiration.............
