N00b here.. I have a GS4 with:
Android version: 4.3
Baseband ver: M919UVUEMK2
What is the proper way [Guide] to root or unlock [or both] this version?
Seems as if this version is tricky to unlock and root.. [ie KNOX etc.]
tnx in adv
Cf autoroot still works on mk2, but you're going to trip Knox: http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-root-t-mobile-galaxy-s4-sgh-m919-on-android-4-3-vruemk2-firmware/

So there is no way to root without tripping Knox?
What about unlocking is there a way to do this without root?
Sadly there is no way to root 4.3 or 4.4 without tripping Knox.
It's not supposed to be so bad to trip Knox.
Just says seandroid kernel not enforcing at boot.

People say cf region unlock also unlocks their phone.
Here is the first unlock thread I found: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283068

That unlock thread does not work with Mk2. No service menu in Mk2.
Can cf region be used without root?
Where is the thread with this

Lol.. It clearly says in BOLD red that it does not work with MK2 or 4.3.
Thanks for trying man. But ive been through most of those forums already.
Hence why im asking if there is proper way...
The only one that seems to work is the safestrap one where id have to root first then install the MF3 modem then use RegionLockAway..
Can you call T-Mobile for the unlock code?

Try the toolkit! It's very easy to use and you just can follow its lead while flashing via odin etc.
Can I flash any tar file via odin
I think it easy for me

Flash philz recovery tar file using odin and flash supersu1.65.zip through philz recovery.

Hey, its in the DN3 Rom's First page. -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51594063&postcount=1-
In the "Flashing Instructions" part, you'll see a step of what to do to install the MJ5 Bootloader. The one that links to JoelDroid's Rom.
Note: You cannot downgrade bootladers.
Goodluck.
I already have mj5.. but is it work well with this rom? thnQ

Anyways this is your ONLY choice if you want to remain KNOX-free.... and yes it works, only thing that doesn't work is charging while OFF, but that is not such a big deal....

I'm sorry to tell you this but if you are on the stock nb4 you cannot downgrade. Trying to downgrade will brick your phone. Did you take the OTA 4.4? How did you get 4.4?

I'm not sure if you can unlock with this method if you are on 4.4 it doesn't say. It only says you need to be on stock and its confirmed working.

Yes, unfortunately this method doesn;t work for my device..
No, I haven't contacted them, I'm overseas..
I don't think there is a way to unlock NB4 at the moment.. Only thing you can do is wait, or buy an unlock code

This is technically incorrect information. While one may not officially be able to downgrade (first of all using Odin to flash the mdl tar file will not brick your device, simply reports a failed status) you can still root the device install a custom recovery and flash any of the 4.2.2 ROMs found in the development section.

Yes you can flash 4.2 jelly bean custom ROMs but that doesn't help his problem. He needs to sim unlock and at the moment we only have 1 guide for stock 4.2 and nothing newer.

you can still SIM unlock if you flash a custom 4.2.2 ROM. Also, you can simply flash the MK2 modem through Odin (there is a thread explaining how to SIM unlock on NB4 firmware) and then use the commands from there.
