How do I get CIFS working? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I've been unsuccessfully trying to get cifs manager working, but every time I try to mount, it says "mounting the share has failed with an error invalid argument"
Currently using CM 11 SNAPSHOT M6. Should I change the ROM and/or kernel?

does the kernel support CIFS?,
your trying to mount the samba share as a directory in storage.

Your question should be in the thread you linked to. You got the Android zImage from there, so that's where your question should be.

[Q] Insmod issues

Hello guys, I'm havking some problems trying to make my phone read NTFS sd card. It is using NTFS-3g and fuse.ko, my problem is with fuse.ko which is placed in /system/lib/modules (yea it's chmod-ed already), which can't be loaded to the kernel: I am trying to insmod it and it says initmodule '/system/lib/modules/fuse.ko' failed (Exec format error). I've tried to make it a executable file, it didn't worked, I've checked it and it's for .587, the fw I am on, and the kernel is .587 battery patched. I am having the same problem with other modules too like overclock or utf-8.
I'm not a pro, but I wouldn't like to be treated like a total noob(no retard questions like "are you sure you're writing the correct location" or things like that).
P.S.: If you can't help me, I'll try to integrate the module into the kernel next time I compile it, but I'm lazy to do this.
Dmesg output attached.
Nvm, it was all a kernel problem(when I've compiled it, the kernel version was appearing 2 times).

Can't mount loop device

Hi, I've just got the new nexus 7 flo tablet, and am wanting to run linux in android, but havn't been able to get any of the methods to work, and I believe it has to do with loop device mounting not being supported in my kernel, is there any kernels that currently support it? I'm currently on CM10.2 nightly, but can flash any rom or kernel, because the only reason i got the tablet is to run linux on it
In linux installer it says "Can't mount BLOCK part. Did you forget to format?'
The error it gives me in log is "mount: Operation not supported on transport endpoint"

I've got the same problem,... Looking around Google a bit, it could also have something to do with root not being fully root like before in 4.3. (Google trying to stop rooting.) Some things seem to be not fully permitted, even with the su and busybox binaries.
It's just a guess though, but you could try cm10.1, because in Android 4.2 Linux Installer mounted and installed the loop just fine for me...

Wow, this really helped, thanks! Although I didn't really do what was said there, the info on that page did lead to my victory! ;p
That page is for the "Complete Linux Installer" app, which downloads pre-made .img's for you, which apparently seem to work when converted to ext4. I'm using "Linux Installer STANDARD", though, which creates the loop file itself and then installs into it locally, and it has a build in setting where you can choose to use ext2, ext3 or ext4. Problem was, when I selected ext3 or ext4, a popup appeared telling me I didn't have mkfs.ext3 or mkfs.ext4 respectively, so I always went back to ext2, which didn't give me that popup. After reading this, I opened the app, went to the settings and set it back to ext4, ignoring the popup that once again appeared. I then instructed the app to mount the loop file again, which worked, and although it finished with a 'Failed' message, the thing that failed doesn't seem all to important, cause I can enter the chroot now.
Anyway, thanks for the helping link, dscblu!

[Q&A][UNOFFICIAL] CyanogenMod 12 Nightlies

Q&A for [ROM][UNOFFICIAL] CyanogenMod 12 Nightlies
FAQ:
Q: I tried to flash the ROM and got this:
Code:
Installing update...
set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed
E:Error in /sdcard/..path od ROM.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Or I'm having other recovery issues.
A: Update your recovery to supported one. See the list below.
TWRP 2.8.1.2 ACE or newer
Q: I've used HTC Dev unlock and flashed the rom but it won't boot. What should I do?
A: You need to extract boot.img from the zip and flash it via fastboot. If you don't have fastboot executable anymore from flashing recovery, install Android SDK platform tools (Linux users should find it from distro's package management) and then reboot to bootloader, open command prompt and navigate to the location you extracted your boot.img and type:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You need to repeat this everytime you flash new version of this rom to ensure everything will work fluently as long as you have just basic HTC Dev unlock.
Q: Where are my developer and performance options?
A: http://goo.gl/jpS8r
Q: Where is my root?
A: http://www.cyanogenmod.org/blog/all-about-l-part-2 (Read under "Superuser where?")
Q: Feature X doesn't work, let's make 1000 posts about it to annoy everyone.
A: Please, dont. Use search and then use search again and only then report your problem with necessary logs. [Logcat guide, thanks to MusikMonk for the link]
Q: I hate you for not fixing this issue X!!!
A: I love you too.
Q: How I can build CM12.0 myself?
A: Setup a basic Android build environment.
Code:
mkdir cm12
cd cm12/
repo init -u git://github.com/CyanogenMod/android.git -b cm-12.0
mkdir -p .repo/local_manifests
wget https://github.com/OpenDesireProject/android/raw/cm-12.0/local_manifest.xml -O .repo/local_manifests/cm_ace.xml
repo sync
. build/envsetup.sh
lunch cm_ace-userdebug
mka bacon
Once the build finishes you'll find your goods from out/target/product/ace/ directory.
Q: Something about something something something.
A: Ask the guy/gal next to you.
Thanks..reserved?

Try to format your system partition manually. If that doesn't help, contact 4EXT dev. Generally I can't fix recovery related issues like this seems to be.

You'll probably need even smaller gapps. Our system partition is getting very small as the base system size has increased a lot since gingerbread. I haven't tried any gapps yet as they are irrelevant to our roadblocker issues so I can't give any recommendations.

Yes, if you are S-ON. There are some kernel related changes which are included in the boot.img so it needs to be updated too.

That was mine second throught but main goal was to anounce others that problem. I posted it to 4EXT recovery Q/A threat

rom not working
help me. Excuse, but apparently I'm the only one that failed to install the rom.
during installation sticking a message like warnig and then something about the sound and would not start more
I've already checked MD5
DOGE2 + PA GApps ALPHA1 flash succeeded
Thank you Musta and the team for great job!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56560109
I flashed DOGE2 + PA GApps ALPHA1, and they work fine.
(cm-12-20141130-UNOFFICIAL-DOGE2-ace.zip + pa_gapps-micro-5.0-ALPHA1-20141117a-signed.zip)
Before flashing, I made .gapps-config which containing the text "NanoGApps", and placed it in the same folder as the GApps zip.
Then, flashing has succeeded.
I didn't try "PicoGApps" option, but it will also succeed, I suppose.
