So i tried flashing a new recovery and rom. here's how the process went down.
flash recovery
reboot
flash rom
clear cache - failed to mount /cache uh oh
try to boot - fail
reboot to recovery - flash old .zip of twrp 2.6.x
reboot followed by boot loops and no known to turn off device. Can't reach recovery now.
i do NOT have a windows computer which makes using odin hard. is there any way for me to fix this or do i need to locate a windows computer and use ODIN? does anyone know how i can at least get it to stop rebooting in the meantime?
Edit: i can reach download mode, that's all i can do at the moment as far as i know.
Pc and odin is my best solution or check this

may help havent tried it
I had the problem myself.
Keep trying VolUp+Home, you must hit it in the right moment between screen cycles. Try pushing and releasing Pwr button too while you hold VolUp+Home, releasing it right before a screen cycle.
I was about to open my tablet to remove the battery but decided to try the last time. Finally I pressed Pwr+VolUp+Home and the right moment when the screen cycled, then released Pwr, and I was in recovery.
Try pulling external sd card to see if it boots up, just in case the card is causing the problem.

You need PC ODIN... The bootloader wasn't flashed, hence the problem. Flashing another JB recovery won't fix this...
You need to flash the whole rom in PC ODIN, this may require a factory reset.
Find TWRP2.7.0.1 and flash that, it's KK friendly, then flash the latest supersu (I believe its 1.99r3)using TWRP.
You should now be OK to go, Android KK with root and a custom recovery.
Th only drawback is that if you're external sd is formatted exFAT you can't make backups to it. though you can transfer the file to a PC then the Appropriate file on the external sd afterwards...

I don't know if this helps but my Note3 used to have this issue and heated up a lot around the SD card slot right after booting up and would reboot and reboot. Pulling out the sd card helped a little, but to get it to NOT reboot, I would put it in the fridge or put a cold can of drink on top of the sd card area with the battery cover off. The phone would reboot every second day or so and I would need to fridge boot it again.
This was shi77ting me heaps and I was close to giving up on my Note3 when the 4.4 OTA update came thru.
After the update, the Note 3 became rock solid and I was getting 500+ hr up times without itself rebooting. it only reboots now because I shut it down and I cant remember it rebooting by itself since the kitkat update. I love my Note3 now and run it rooted (Kingo Rooted), with SDfix, and dont wish for any update that might upset this rock solid stability.
My note3 is the N900 Exynos 5420 version.
My Note10 is the N605 SD800 version and it runs 4.3 very solid and I'm not keen to upset it with a kitkat update as im happy with the way it is.
actually, you CAN use a Mac

I was faced with the same problem when I upgraded to KitKat and needed to enable writing to my external SDcard by rooting. I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro running an i7 chip. I was running OS X 10.8x at the time, but have since upgraded to 10.9 since Apple reenabled local syncing of contacts--all these big companies play the same games trying to own your data.
I used Parallels Desktop 9 and installed Windows 8.1. Once I did that, I was able to get Odin running on the Windows side to see my Note 10.1 (2014). After that, rooting was straightforward, just as if I was on a PC. You may not want to go to the expense (about $200 for Parallels and Win 8.1) but I wanted it to run the latest version of Office. Being able to root was a nice bonus for me.
Thanks guys. I ended up finding a windows 8 iso and installing in boot camp. It was a slow process but I eventually got it to work

Do you see any missing/unknown devices in Device Manager?
If so you might just need to download an updated USB driver from Samsung's website.
I'm having this exact same issue. I hope there is someone that can help figure this out. Mine occurred while trying to reroot after the update.

If it helps, this is what I did.
After successfully rooting my husbands phone, he accidently updated. I've waited to try and do re-route it now since you've published a method of re-rooting. This was my first attempt at rooting ever and currently the phone only powers on to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 screen and doesn't go any further. Here's what happened:
On Windows 7
Opened CASUAL
Received instructions to flash root.
Using Odin I tried I605_VRALJB_Restore.tar.md5, it failed to flash so I instead flashed root66_VZW_stock_system.tar.md5.
This worked fine, proceeded with CASUAL
Flashed BAVBaseline.tar.md5.
Phone began to reset and froze at Samsung Galaxy Note 2 starter screen. Waited 5 minutes no change in the screen on the phone or on CASUAL. After 30 minutes pressed power and the buttons to get into Odin, I finally unplugged. The phone is still stuck at the start screen and isn't recognized by Odin or my computer
So you're on a Verizon GN2? Just want to make sure we're talking the same phone
Also did you pull the battery yet?

Okay that has happened to me before.
I had to download a new stock rom and flash it via TWRP.
If you dont have TWRP Recovery mode, find a rom you can flash in normal recovery.
(To get to recovery mode, take battery out of phone, put back in and then hold "volume up, power and home button simultaneously for about 10 seconds.")
Once you have the new rom .zip file downloaded...
You have to take the SD Card out of the bricked phone and place in a different phone.
Put the different phone on the computer and put the rom on there.
When it gets copied to the ext sd, put it back into the bricked phone and proceed into recovery mode as I explained above.
You will probably have to factory reset, and then install the new rom onto the bricked phone from the ext sd card.
If you have any questions just post.
Hope it helps.

Removed...I figured it out. Thanks so much y'all.
(editx2)
Just in case someone comes along like me and the above doesn't work for them.
Was getting stuck at second "Samsung" screen, could not flash rom via Odin or by recovery...couldn't even get to recovery at first.
After much round and round, here's the winning combination:
Flash stock recovery via Odin, flash twrp 2.3.1.1 (newest one with .tar file I could find) via Odin, then flash stock rom...Was that simple for me, just a lot of trial and error.
I have a T999, 1.5 years old used on Tmobile's 30$/month plan and love it, but recently hard bricked. History: It's been rooted for more than a year, flashed with a rooted stock via ODIN, keeping the flash counter at zero. Accepted one OTA update and kept root using a rootkeeper app. About two months ago I installed clockwork recovery to start messing with roms, but didn't do anything other than flash the recovery.
A week ago, I was frustrated with random freezes and wanted to update, either to stock 4.3 or a custom rom. I tried cyanogen 1st, downloading the most recent stable rom- 10.1.3 from mid September, for the Tmobile s3. When I flashed, via CW recovery, the phone rebooted very quickly, with a frozen SGS3 plus the cyanogen logo screen. 30 minutes later, I pulled the battery and tried to get into recovery and go back to the nandroid backup I created earlier. Button combos, jig, nothing worked. I've tried KAsp3rd's debricking method using external SD boot image (on two different sd cards, both using a win32diskimager), but that hasn't worked. All I can get is an unrecognized device when I plug into a PC, and sometimes a red LED light when I plug in both with and without the battery. I've used an external charger, so the battery shouldn't be the issue. Would a next step be sending it out for JTAG wipe or new motherboard?
Thanks for any replies.

Try KAsp3rd's debricking method again. You have to be pretty precise with the process i.e need the correct debrick image, the correct SD memory, etc.

Thanks for the reply! I've imaged SD cards 4 or 5 times, both with the first image mentioned, SGH-T999 ***NOT FOR 4.3*** and, just because I suppose it's possible CM10.1.3 is running 4.3 bootloaders or something, the second 4.3 image. In each instance, I get a successful write, ending up with a 63 mb partition visible to windows, about 24 more partitions on the SD card itself. I've done it with a 16gb class 4 card and a higher quality samsung 32gb class 10 card. Granted, each image write has been in windows, using win32diskimage, and not their linux imager, but lots of folks in the thread have done it with windows. Is it worth making a linux bootdisk and running the code on that system?

I was pretty successful with using Windows to write the image. It didn't work at first because I wrote the wrong image. (I needed to use the 4.3 debrick image.)
Also, keep in mind that the memory capacity of the micro SD card has to match the memory capacity of the phone (i.e if your S3 is 16GB, you have to use a 16GB micro SD card).
I used a Polaroid 16GB micro SDHC card (my S3 is a 16GB) and it worked fine.
Thanks for the second tip. The class 4 card might not have been up to snuff. I used a Top RAM class 10 16gb card and managed to get some vibrations, eventually into factory mode, but my battery must have given out while I was opening ODIN. I'll try again tonight.

So I was able to get into factory/ODIN mode, but two PC's with the proper drivers, that have both flashed ODIN wouldn't recognize the phone. About a month ago, some wine got spilled near the USB port and it's acted squirrely ever since. It would charge, but most cords wouldn't allow PC's to recognize it. Just pulled the motherboard, cleaned out the port with rubbing alcohol and a pipe cleaner, compressed air dried, and will let it sit overnight before putting everything back together. We'll see if this works. That or a $100 new motherboard on ebay, I guess.
Last night I installed geefree on my phone from the app store and used it to install TWRP. I downloaded a nightly CM11 and an appropriate gapps. Using geefree I rebooted to recovery (never figured out the button combination to boot to recovery "naturally") and installed both of the zips. This could be where I made my mistake, I installed both at the same time.
Now my phone loops, displaying the LG logo for a few seconds, then shutting off and rebooting before repeating the process. I can't seem to get it to go into download mode or the recovery menu. I've tried power+up, power+down, down+up and each of those while plugging the device in, etc. I can get the device to a hardware key control mode, though it doesn't seem too useful.
How can I save my phone? This forum has been a great resource in the past and I'm very grateful for the many tutorials I've followed rooting other devices. Hopefully you guys can save the day once again!
Volume up plus power is how to access recovery on sprint.
What stock sw version were you on before you flashed cm?
Did you wipe data before flashing?

I was using stock 4.2.2, I believe. I didn't wipe the data (shame on me), a bad habit that I picked up from my first rooted device, the Samsung Moment. It didn't ever matter on that one, afaik. Thanks for the reply!
Edit: Volume up and power whether plugged in or not takes me to the hardware key control mode screen.
Second Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476&page=35 I also found this thread where someone seems to be experiencing similar issues and they fix it with "LG Utility." Is that a PC application? It's a little vague to google, but I've been trying!
I have a bootloop issue every time i flash a rom i have to wipe all but sd flash roms and gapps the i do a restore from twrp and oly restore my boot image only and they boot no prob
I'm kind of starting to suspect my power button doesn't work at all for whatever reason. I have a lot of difficulty getting the phone to shut down, then it doesn't seem to easily power up. It's a strange collection of problems. Would a Sprint repair place be able to fix this?
If they have parts on hand if not either a swap out or a sendoff
Same problem here - bootloop and no download mode - CWM works! - urgently need help
I guess I have the same problem as InlineFourPower (apart from that my power-button has no problem).
I am stuck in bootloop since I tried to upgrade to Kitkat a few days ago. Now I can´t get into download mode any more, nor into fastboot or anything else. Only CWM works.
From within CWM I can successfully flash ROMs but that doesn´t help, since afterwards I am still stuck in bootloop. It is possible, however, to push files via adb-commands while I am in CWM.
Does anybody have an idea how to go from here or how to get download-mode back?
Device is recognized but can´t be mounted - bricked forever?

I tried a few things on Linux.
After terminal-command "ls /dev/sd*" when the device is unplugged from the computer I get "/dev/sda".
When the device is connected via USB, I get: "/dev/sda /dev/sdb"
So sdb is my LG G2.
So I went on to the next command: "gdisk -l /dev/sdb"
As a result I get: "Problem opening /dev/sdb for reading! Error is 123."
Does it mean that the phone isn´t mounted or what? Now I´ve connected my phone to another Linux machine with the same result. It is recognised (p.e. as sdd), but there is no sdd1. Seems as if it is recognized, but can´t be mounted. Does that mean my device is bricked for good? That´s it?
to get the phone into download mode you have to plug the usb cord in and hold VOL+, so to get this right as I have a case on mine, plug the usb into the phone first then hold VOL+ and plug into usb port on the computer.
it does take a loooong time to power down the phone with the button when stuck in a boot loop, just keep holding it until it shuts off, it will shut off eventually!!
plug the phone in while in download mode to install drivers and set com ports, then unplug before you begin your flash with LGFlashTool, hope this helps you out.

Thanks Cronic2009 for your advice.
There are, however, szenarios where download-mode is not accessible any more. Neither by using the hardware-keys, nor by using the adb-command.
After four days of resarch and a lot of trial and error, I finally unbricked my F320L using the two adb-commands outlined at the beginning of that thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696
Worked like a charm.

I just wanted to ask anyone who might know, since the bootloader of the LS980 is locked, we cannot "break" this correct, so no matter what commands we decide to run through root, we cant touch the true bootloader there for LS980 fail safe? (Besides Acts of God, EMP, ect)

Be sure if you use a aosp based rom to flash the ZV8 modem. Your can use dr87 or furnance kernals after you flash the zva modem althought i have encountered soft brick due to this.

I have been using TWRP 2.7.0.0 to do all my work, and I was able to get the Lego ROM installed with ZVA. I got into too big of a hurry and forgot to make a backup of stock. I've also been unsuccessful in trying to install ZVC modem and firmware. Thankfully ZVA works as does the LEGO ROM, but I'd like to have stock there to access as well. The stockZVC that's on the Android Development page has been getting stuck (bootloop?) on the Sprint Spark logo. I've done TWRP's factory reset with no success. Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance!

You ever get her fixed?
Hello,
It's been a while since I last stepped foot in the xda forums as I've been happy with stock, however when kies pushed the 4.3 update to my Note 2 I've started having problems - my phone will not sleep. After 2 min timeout the display turns off and immediately turns itself on again. It then goes into a loop where it turns off and on again every second until I unlock it. This is playing havoc with my battery life (I only get about 6 hours from full charge now). I've tried disabling any setting that might cause this (like smart stay etc.), I downloaded wakelockdetector (doesn't detect anything), I've tested my sensors and sleep mode with #*0*# (sleep mode has the same problem here), and I've done multiple factory/hard resets (x5).
I want to go back to 4.1.2 because this problem only started happening with 4.3 except now I have a different problem - I can't get download mode to work so I can't flash any recovery/firmware. I get the download mode screen up via the usual 3-key method, however once I'm there it seems to disable my volume keys because they stop working. I can get into recovery mode without any problems and the volume keys work fine there, but once it loads up the download mode screen and prompts me to press vol up to start or vol down to cancel, no matter what I press nothing happens. I have to hold down the power key to reboot.
Does anyone have any idea why my Note 2 is so broken?
Would really appreciate some expert help here. Thanks in advance.
Other stuff I've tried: I've tried with and without my SDcard. I've tried formatting my SDcard. I've tried taking my battery out for 5 mins and then go straight to download mode, but still my vol keys won't work.
I got kies to do a firmware reinitialisation which downloaded 4.3 again and flashed my phone a second time but still the problem persists.
I guess I have no choice but to put my hope in Samsung support. It's a real kick in the teeth that the nearest official support centre is an hour and a half away from me. I think this will be the last Samsung product I buy.

How?
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but with 4.3 comes with knox and a locked bootloader. I can't load philz or twrp zip from recovery because it errors with an unsigned message and since I can't access download mode I can't use odin.
Shut down your phone. pull the battery out. connect your tether cable to the phone and USB to computer. start oden, put tar file in PDA box. don't change any other settings. Put your phone in download mode by pressing both up/down volume buttons (not Power) and insert the battery. once in download mode, click on Start on oden. As for the bloatware, you are going to get whatever apps that are in the tar file. I think Some of the bloat has been removed. Not sure what, but it seems most of it is still there. I think DriveSmart is gone

These don't appear to be the correct instructions for a N7100. Well, thanks for the bump anyway.
Hi!
Did you try to flash with mobile odin? It might be the solution if you can't access to download mode (which is weird by the way...)
I have same problem
i just flash new bootloader kitkat
"Bootloader If you have MJ5 or later bootloader then no need otherwise you have to apply Reboot and wifi Fix from post #3 above
You can get idea about current bootloader with info application
If You are not worried about warranty then I strongly recommend to flash Kitkat bootloader.
Here is Kitkat bootloader from N7100_ND3 "
and now my phone was on and it will stuck on samsung logo...
i m also not able to install stock rom
help me to downgrade 4.1 old bootloader.

Thank you!
Mobile odin worked. Got the pro version to thank Chainfire. Also managed to get root thanks to Kingo and I'll be donating to them as well.
Unfortunately even after flashing CM10 it hasn't fixed my sleep problem. Well, maybe I've got a hardware fault after all...funny that it coincided with the 4.3 update. I guess I've voided my warranty now but on the bright side I've finally ditched Samsung's bloatware and stock android. Here's hoping I can find a fix.
I wiped all the wrong things and now am in twrp but have no os. It was rooted, unlocked, and happily on Grace ROM but now I got no phone.
I'm a bit pressed for time so if anyone could link me to how to repair this quickly, I'd sure appreciate it.
I put my stupid hat on while trying to get my 89 year old dad to okay the taxes--such a dumb error!!!
and no I don't have a backup handy...grrrrr
thanks in advance
Update 1--I've flashed 2 firmwares and a recovery so I've lost TWRP and it keeps rebooting into regular recovery...
Update 2--I'm up and running on PA1/PD1 but I've got no wifi...will start searching for a fix
If you have an SD card, you could load one that way. What about hooking it up to your computer via USB?
I imagine those are really your only two options.

The pc sees the phone---should I load the PD1 firmware and root and unlock from there?
