What's up XDA community! I went over to the fruit world and realized it was lonely. Just purchased my S3 and wow! I feel like....I feel like.....Well I think Madonna had a song that goes with what I'm trying to say.
Wow so much has changed and with that said I need some experienced help. Now get your mind out of the gutter...LOL ewww.. It appears that carriers are getting smart. From what I read so far there's a " Flash Counter" on phones now. I mean Android takes over and carriers get mad.
Now with that said I have an AT&T Unlocked S3. Yes I got mine in before Saturday. :good:
I haven't rooted in a while but AT&T sure knows how to put bloatware on their devices. I need to root and clear up this mess. So here's what I'm looking for and I need the best of the best of the best....SIR and Miss!
1) Which root process can I use? The phone called for an update to 4.1.1 on the S3. From what I read its the update released from AT&T back in December??? Well worse case I can always wipe my phone. So what Root process will work?
I don't really care about Flash Count
2) Security!! Security!! Security!! -
I don't want to load my phone with a bunch of apps that drain the battery but at the same time if I want security. A lot of apps I use will check the phone for root and will not work unless I un-root. Does Google have a direct website where I can download the Newest Jelly Bean software?
3) Themes-
I've seen a lot of Super Bad themes! *Drools* Ok I think I answered that question.. I see some in the threads here. (Disregard)
4)Battery Life-
The best Rom that includes a great option to help with battery life as I'm sure this is what most of us want..
So with that said.. if I can hear some ideas from the best of the best that will at least give me a starting point.
Thank you XDA- Samsung S3 Owner
Kal*el
if you have an AT&T Galaxy S III, it might be a better idea to go the AT&T GS3 forums
but congrats on your S3! i honestly don't understand how anyone could say the iPhone is better....unless of course they're brainwashed iSheep.

LOL! Thanks I just realized that after and noticed there are a few different versions of root based on carrier. If the Forum admin reads this can you move this to the AT&T threads.
I was a wee bit excited
Hello fellas. I have a question.
Gave away My n4 to my girl and got a free S4 from T-mobile about a day or two ago.. Yay. Rooted and flashed CM 10.2 and loving the phone but i do have a question;
Now i know Google sells the GE Edition S4 But i don't see a difference in our version and theirs besides obviously running Stock and has easy root. But once our device is rooted, essentially don't we have a GE S4? I mean running the GE Roms should be pretty easy since its the same device? Also, i've been reading around and noticed that alot of people from our forum have been flashing roms meant for the unlocked (i9505) S4. We can run any rom from that forum? i know our devices are different processor wise (exynos) but can we just flash their roms willy nilly, and change the APNs to run our LTE and we are good to go? Excited to essentially know that i can Run 4.4 kitkat when it arrives in a few months if this is the case. Got jealous when i saw a glimpse of the N5 and 4.4

I wouldn't flash anything that is not meant for TMO GS4. Just to avoid being in trouble.

There are quite a few threads here both asking and explaining that yes, we can flawlessly run ROMs for other variants. Meaning yes; if you want to run a ROM from the i9505 section, go right ahead. If you like the way an AT&T ROM looks, flash it. When you mention the Exynos CPU, please note that the Exynos is the i9500 and flashing any ROM from that section will brick. i9505 = safe. i9500 = NO NO. The best thing to remember when flashing other variant's ROMs is to use a kernel for your device. Don't worry if you forget to flash your kernel, you're not gonna do any damage, you just won't be able to boot; just wipe, re-flash, and remember your kernel this time.
And before the question gets asked, no you can't do a full GPe conversion. You CAN use the CWM-flashable ROMs, but as far as totally converting, using the pit, GPe stock recovery, and receiving OTA updates... the answer is no.
Not trying to sound like a douche nozzle here, so if I came off that way, I apologize. It's just that this info has already been covered in depth.

Quick, easy to the point answer. Love it thanks man. Just I've been on the Nexus phones and devices for a while and just needed a refresher on flashing different variants. To be honest I did search some threads a little more in depth after posting and found these answers, so my apologies for that. Thanks again though man.

No worries. I know how it is to overlook something after searching/reading for an hour. :good:
Thanks to the OP and others who have responded. After playing with my sister's S4 a few days ago, I've been debating ditching my Nexus 4 and going the CM/GPe S4 route.

MAN tell me about it. So how are you liking your S4? I love this thing so far. Just need to find a case on amazon, was honestly looking for maybe a bumper case but I haven't found one yet. Boy I can't wait for that Samsung galaxy gear watch to come out, would be perfect with this phone. Hopefully I won't have to go back to touchwiz though :victory:. Impatiently waiting for kitkat and the reveal of the N5, which if is in the same price point of the n4, I will be getting as well.

I would wait, with the unveil of Kitkat and the N5 relatively soon, that may blow this phone out the water.

The truth? It's only my 2nd Android phone, so I can't really speak from very much Android experience, but so far it's a beast. I got an Otterbox Defender the day I got the phone and it's spent maybe 10 minutes out of the case... it adds a little more bulk, but I also cracked my old phone's screen twice while going caseless; I can live with a little more bulk.
On TouchWiz; it's really astounded me. My previous phone, I used everything BUT stock; something about the S4 though, I can't stay away from TouchWiz. The same can be said for the other ROMs as well though. My ROM folder on my SD card is over 10GB and I constantly swap between them.
I'm trading my s4 for an lg optimus g pro today.. are there any firmwares on this phone that keep the bootloader locked or are unable to be rooted? just wanna make sure I can root this phone and flash any rom I want

I sold my S4 and bout the LG OG Pro recently myself. The bootloader is locked, but there's an exploit called Loki that allows flashing and custom recovery, but to be honest, I've found that the LG section of the forum is a bit dead in comparison to the Samdung forums. Probably there's fewer users, of course, but even simple questions with yes or no answers than ANYONE with the device could answer sit unanswered for days.
Not too impressed so far, and I haven't even taken delivery of the device yet. It's great hardware, so I think we are taking a gamble. I'm possibly getting mine tomorrow, if the mail pulls through.

well my s4 has the mf3 firmware so there is no chance of custom roms right now like aosp or cm. there is a workaround with safestrap but you can only use touchwiz based roms. this is why I'm trading it for an optimus g pro if I'll be able to put any rom I want on it..

Yeah, I had the 9505 and Knox did the same sorta crap. Basically, as I am understanding it, from days and days of reading and attempting to discuss, there are custom ROMs, and some good ones, but it's honestly not anywhere near what an unlocked bootloader device would give you.
I am a bit torn. I'm going to give it a chance. IF I hate it, I'll sell it.
Give it an chance I just got my LG Optimus Pro a few days ago and it's pretty good. Your right about not having too much support comparing to Samsung but I also took an gamble. My last LG phone was the Nexus 4 and find a nice build. I'm running on CM 10.2 nightly build and runs smoothly. My previous phone was Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and I'm glad I sold it to get this phone.. make sure you download an app called FreeGee on play store, it would bypass LG security and you can install any rom you want it but don't forget to root the phone first..
Hello there! This is my first post here on XDA... Have a bit of a question that I couldn't quickly find an answer to... I'm currently running on an AT&T S4 on AT&T...with a locked bootloader. Needless to say, I'm want no part of this since I'm no fan of Touchwiz and would love some AOSP goodness, so I plan on selling my current S4 and purchasing an unlocked one on T-Mobile. I know that I should be able to change IMEI settings to get 4G and full data within any ROM, but I'm more curious if I can just flash a ROM built for the AT&T S4 on the T-Mobile to skip having to do that.
Thanks for the help!!

Actually, the way things stood 2 weeks ago, you sort of had to if you wanted 4.4.2 because ATT 4.4.2 ROM is working better than the ones made for TMobile. I am currently using "|ROM| |★GOLDENEYE★| |►VJUFNB2◄|4.4.2|KK| |4.3|JB| |►24◄|Mar.9.14" with ktoonz kernel for TMobile. I get better LTE speeds compared to the M919/I9505 specific ROM made by the same dev. I have no idea why that is.

Oh...never mind. You said no TW ROMs for you.
Hello all,
Currently have the S5, previous phone was S4 (RIP unlocked bootloaders) and thinking about making the switch to this new G4. This phone looks pretty sweet and was wondering how the UI and everything is from Samsung? I'm sure some people here have made the switch. Tired of how secure Samsung is now with Verizon. Not an HTC fan, so figured LG was the way to go.
How's the development for these phones? I've skimmed over the G3 forums and seems to be some ROMs, but nothing much.
Basically, if you're stuck on Verizon like me, is it a good move to switch to LG since they seem to eventually get unlocked or be stuck with Samsung and TouchJizz for a little more while?
Or is the M9 just too good to not get over my hatred of it and select that?
Just some options here from you guys to help sway my mind, thanks guy!

I ditched Sammy note 1 on 2013 (No...its just simply died on me one morning on a freezing temperature.) then got G2 then G3 and now have both G3 and G4. And never look back cos Life's Good. Why not much custom ROMs? Simple answer we dont really need them so much. We Stock ROM developers and some tweaks.
LG UX 4.0 is awesome. Try it yourself when its available.

Thanks for some of your input! Much appreciated. Samsung has been a headache the last year alone because of all their government contracts now. They heartily beefed up their security. Add Verizon on top of that, and yeah, you get my drift. I lucked out with my S4 having it bootloader unlocked and chances are Samsung will never have another one unlocked. HTC and LG seem to get cracked within a couple months, so I'd rather take a chance with that than switch to crap carriers like T-Mobile.
