I received a "N7100" today, which should have been the LTE version aka "N7105". I'm considering keeping it though...
What are the DISADVANTAGES of the N7105 over the N7100? I'm guessing:
- reduced battery life, but how bad is it really?
- higher price tag: I read on some UK forums a GBP 50 price difference on a branded device; anyone has a idea of the difference for an unlocked version?
- availability? I can't find an unlocked N7105 in stock anywhere here in Northern Europe, not even pre-order.
- fewer custom ROMs?
- no root (yet)?
- other considerations?

1. not noticeable for me
2. yes, more price for LTE, let see yr demand for that
3. regional problem
4. yes atm
5. root available at first day N7105 arrive
Hard to say what the disadvantages are between the N7100 and N7105 without owning both.
Currently, I have N7105 and having LTE makes more sense for future proofing (that's of course, if the network has it). I don't see major threads about LTE battery life but am used to charging each night.
There does seem to be less custom roms at the moment.
I got my N7105 on contract and didn't even see the option for N7100 so cost wasn't an issue. You may need to reconsider your plan though as running at 4G.
Just my 2c.
Sorry to say but LTE version has no FM radio...
in Singapore, we dont hv the option of N7100... so price vise is not an issue. matter of fact, i don't see any disadvantages between them. but for sure, N7105 gv u an option to use 3G or 4G in which... i hv tested, 4G can perform 5 - 10 times faster by using speedtest apps... as for more custom rom for N7100... that i hv to agree, at this moment... but i'm very sure... soon either existing roms to be compatible both version, or more new roms for N7105.
battery vise... i hv no problem at all. previous version i use, s2,n7000,s3...all also i use that bulky extended battery if i don't want to worry abt running out of juice. but this N7105...same usage as the rest... remarkably it can last me morning till night without using any extended battery.

I believe you can disable 4G and just have it on 3G/HSPA+ to conserve battery AFAIK.
I have owned both. I currently have the 7105 for future proof. My initial observation is that battery really drains quicker, but that is with 4g enabled eventhough I dont have 4g connection. I will observe more.... no need for roms because stock rom is excellent for me. For root, search for chainfire root guide for 7100, there is also a download specific for 7105 there.
What I dont understand is the settings for changing networks have only 2 options. 2g/3g/4g (auto mode) or 3g only. There should be 2g/3g mode as well.
I choose the N7100. Convincing arguments for me:
- battery drain (even though you can switch if off, just like 3G in the old days was an issue)
- FM radio (I'm streaming 99% of the time, but I still like listening to radio once in a while)
Ultimate argument: what is future-proof really? by the time 4G coverage is up to par (in my country at least), I'll probably be using a Note IV
I intend to keep my Note 2 for 3-4 years... can't really think of anything else I need on a phablet, and LTE will make it future proof...
LTE as standard in the UK
I believe the LTE version will become the norm in the UK at least. EE (The new Orange/T-Mobile) is now shipping the LTE version only and the other telco's will follow suit for "we are 4G ready" marketing purpose if nothing else. I would expect Samsung to push this model in other countries as well.
Not noticed any battery problems with my 7105, even with 4G enabled (I'm not in a 4G area though). I didn't realise about the FM radio which is a shame, but like I say, I had no option but a 7105 with EE.
Network (Singapore, M1)
Im using N7105: Here's my personal review on battery both 3G & LTE
Network on 3G: Battery time - 16 hours (Pure 3G) - 20 hours (With some wifi connection)
Network on LTE 4G: Battery time - 10 hours (Pure LTE) - 14 hours (With some wifi connection)
I've got the lte, I can't compare to non lte note 2, but the battery lasts a lot longer than my non lte s3(mostly because of increased capacity I know, but I never put my note down whereas I was bored with my s3).
The main advantage of lte version for me is faster downloads even though I'm on 3 and dont use lte, the hspa+ dc gave me a download speed last week of 20mb!
It should also have higher resale value next year when I buy the s4 or note 3

I only have the non LTE version, bought it sim free. Do I regret not getting the LTE model? Not really.
Yeah it will be worth more second hand but most the time I use the likes of mazhuma to sell my phones too and they will be little difference at sale time.
Also I'm on tmobile (ee) but am on an unlimited data plan that includes tethering so won't be in a rush to change to a ee 4g plan. If tmobile used dc-hsdpa which I don't think they do then maybe that's the only advantage for me but even with that, what I use data for either on the phone or via tether the speed given by dc-hsdpa isn't that important to me.
Then, although I'm locked into my tmobile contact for another 18 months I'm likely to swap my phone within 8 months anyway so the 4g picture will be a lot clearer then.
Sent from my Samsung Note II.
I had FM radio on my Galaxy Note N7000. And I think I used it twice in 12 month. I easily trade this for the LTE capability in my N7105.
I would rather have lte for future proof rather than manual radio. It is fiddly and you need the headset for it to work. I have tunein radio pro which allows me to listen to any online radio station in the world. Digital radio will take over analog radio anyway just like the tv signals.
E980 from eBay; unlocked with number code (no data service on T-Mobile at this point-only phone); rooted with XDA instructions-verified with Joey Krim’s Root Checker basic; installed SuperSU; installed ASTRO file manager pro (had it from prior phone) - could not access Build Prop file so installed Joey Krim’s Build Prop Editor; as per XDA instructions changed ro.radio.networkmode=disable to ro.radio.networkmode=enable (and SAVED!!!). Opened “Settings”; “Networks”; “Tethering and Networks”; “Mobile Networks” (which now shows “Network Mode” which I entered and selected “GSM/WCMDMA/LTE auto”; then went down to “Network Operators” and opened and checked “automatic”. After booting there was no change in data access and I figured out problem was with APN (“Access Point Names”) settings - went to uTube for "MMS/APN settings for HTC Inspire T-MOBILE " and using pause button got the APN data needed. Went back to “Mobile Networks” page and clicked on “Access Point Names” which opens a blank page. Clicked on the lower right “Menu” button which opens small window at bottom with two options-pick the “New APN” which opens the full page for entry of the uTube data (I did not find on this E980 a place to enter “MMS Protocol:WAP 2.0"). Rebooted and data service appeared. The data service was “E” (Edge apparently) but I live on Mexican border and no LTE yet nor has T-Mobile apparently switched their “4G” to 1900 band. I will investigate with T-Mobile support how, if possible in this market, to move up the data food chain. My prior phones were Palm Treos then HTC G2 and RAZORs for landline replacement with PhoneLynx devices.
LG says without hardware flash no possibility (if at all) of 4g operation and not sure will work now with LTE from T-Mobile (not in my area yet). T-Mobile support says G Pro is not in their system yet. Amazing to me that all phone manufacturers do not have frequency agile products - my 12 year old RTI TV remote handles multiple frequencies and IR. LG support would not comment on Key Lime Pie . . .
I feel bad for users of other carriers who can't get the G Pro. Its stupid how LG makes it exclusive on AT&T than does little to nothing to market it. LG is just hurting the sales potential of the device by not making it more available in the US market.
I agree. Although it has been confirmed that this device will work and get T-Mobile 4G and LTE. I dont understand why T-Mobile won't market this phone. Its clearly a Note 2 beater in every aspect.

I think AT&T has put a stranglehold on LG just like VZW does with some of their partner manufactures. You can bet there were some back room deals going on prior to release.

LG reminds me of Commodore back in the 1980s: GREAT products, but not a clue how to market them. The OG Pro has a big H/W advantage over the Galaxy Note II and a larger screen (with less bloatware) than either the HTC One or S4; LG should be running comparison ads non-stop. What do we get instead? Almost nothing.

Okay I understand that the bootloader is currently locke but assuming it gets unlocked would it be possible to flash a custom modem to create support for tmobile 4g in un-refarmed areas? something like they did for the note one?
How does The LG Pro G work on T-Mobile? I live in a re-farmed area and am thinking of switching to the T-Mobile $30 prepaid plan.I have the chance to get a Pro G for $49,my plan was to get it,unlock it and use it on T-Mobile.

Probably not. What helped the Note in this regard was it's similarity to the Galaxy S2 hardware, and then T-Mobile release the Note on their network. T-Mobile doesn't carry any LG devices with even remotely similar hardware.
Have people been able to unlock phones that were previously locked? I'm assuming so, since I have seen unlocked ATT Phones. I want to buy one on eBay and then get an unlock code, but wanted to make sure it was possible first. I'm switching from the Note II. I love Samsung, but hate the Camera...
4G and LTE Works on T-Mobile
I was digging around in the not so secret.....secret menu and experimenting with options and found that you can simply activate the 4G and LTE on the Optimus G Pro. I will post a few screenshots of the home screen and of some speed tests for your amazement.......
You can access the LG menu by entering 3845#*980#
I'm not responsible if you blow your phone up....please be careful.
I'm using the ATT Lg Optimus G Pro here in Canada with my Rogers carrier and get full LTE speeds just by adding Rogers LTE APN settings. this would be the same for Bell or Telus. I have to say trading my s4 for this device was a smart move! Ya sure no dev support because of locked bootloader, I'm sure eventually that will change

HI to all,
we got two LG G3, one F400L and one D855. How can I change the 4G sign in the status bar to LTE? The F400 is showing LTE while the D855 is showing 4G. I guess its a marketing thing for different regions but I like the LTE
The topic is discussed in the forums but users are complaining about Wifi issues after which I dont want.
Thanks a lot
Jens

As Verizon is charging $700 compared to the 800+ at&t is charging for an off contract note 4 I was wondering if its possible to use the off contract verizon Note 4 on AT&T. I have a mobile share plan with AT&T with other lines still in contract so I can't easily switch to verizon or I would. Does anyone know?

How would one use a CDMA device on a GSM network??
It was my understanding that all Verizon phones now had a SIM slot for LTE Compatibility? I assumed if the Sim slot was unlocked you'd be able to put an AT&T sim card in and configure carrier settings and get access but wanted to confirm?

Most modern Verizon phones have GSM radios in it, and it's unlocked.
The problem with using Verizon's Note 4 on AT&T is LTE. They don't have the same radio, so you'd be stuck on AT&T's 3G.
This was the conversation I had with an AT&T rep today. She was convinced I could just buy the Note 4 from VZW at $699 and bring it over to AT&T... she didn't mention, nor did she seem to be aware that LTE would not work.
Yes well, it all depends on the ATT LTE Band that's in use in your area. I have a VZW S5 that's on ATT prepaid pulling LTE all day. Band 7 I believe.
Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
VZW phones generally have radios with some overlapping LTE band coverage with both ATT and TMO. AWS Band 4 I believe is used by all 3 carriers but not in all areas of the US.
Unfortunately VZW mainly uses Band 13 and ATT band 17 although supposedly Samsung devices have this enabled in the Hidden Menus but I have never gotten band 17 on ATT.
My 2 cents
Verizon's website says their model supports bands 4 and 13. The AT&T website says their model supports bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 17, 20, and 29. From what I remember, AT&T's primary LTE bands are 4 and 17 so if Verizon is being completely truthful and it doesn't support any other bands other than 4 and 13, your LTE coverage may be spotty or even completely non existent.
Verizon Note 4 is out now...
Anyone have a report yet?
I can confirm verizon note 4 is working on at&t & tmobile.
I just got my verizon note 4 today and i put my tmobile sim in it and i had to do apn settings and it worked fine the only problem is lte is not working it worked on hspa and my speeds were 6mb down and 2.5 mb up. Which is good for me.
But if u want to use lte u have to enable band 4 which is locked on verizon model. To enanble it u neef to root ur phone with chainfire root (it's the only method to root right now) but it will trip knox sensor and void ur warranty .
And same applies for at&t. No lte but 6mb on hsps looks good to me.

U just need to enter the right apn settings. I'm getting mms just fine on straight talk. My problem is that our phones support air view with pen and finger, and yet they buried the setting so deep we need root to access it and make it stick. I used nova launcher to access the setting but it turns back off once the phone is put to sleep. Stupid! Just let us decide If we want it or not!!!

Just ported my work number (verizon) to my personal account (ATT) and they let me keep my note 4. I used the APN settings for the ATT S5 and am getting around 10mbps/down and 2-5mbps/up. I'm not rooted yet but will be working on that to see if I can get LTE functional.
I use Hangouts for SMS so that was already working.
s5 settings I used...

I have a POS s3 mini as a work phone (att) I've put that Sim in my Verizon s4 and all was good. Traveling internationally put the att Sim in my vzw note 4 I get voice but not data connections.

So the Note 4 requires root to enable the service menus in order to enable the various bands available on the phone. Verizon has chosen to restrict this access. You need to modify the build.prop and the efs\carrier\hiddenMenu file. So until a root procedure is available the retail version is stuck with HSPA+, which isn't too bad I guess.
Working on my s5 I have made the changes but I am still figuring out how to exactly turn on the disabled bands. I am also hoping these modifications will apply to the Note 4 once root is available.

You have to modify the APN settings after you put the ATT sim in the VZW phone.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried flashing the phone with ATT's firmware. Perhaps this is a more benign method which, as a plus, would show ATT logos throughout the interface. I'm having a verizon note 4 given to me; I'm considering my options.
Curious to see some comments from anyone with Mi Max 3 on T-Mobile or AT&T - are you able to get a stable LTE connection? Overlapping bands are only B4 and B5, so it may not work well everywhere in US. Some speed test results and general comments on LTE connection would be appreciated.
I am still awaiting my unit to show up, its been "in transit" for 2 weeks now. I have AT&T and am also curious about this.
I have used many overseas phones in the past and even without LTE I never really had any issues with speed. HSPA+ always seemed to get the job done fine.
LTE in USA
There's another thread on the board where a fellow in NJ is using the Mi Max 3 on T-Mobile and keeping Band 4 LTE almost all the time. I'm on T-Mobile as well and I'm seriously considering the device.
I am curious, though, if the Global version will have support for additional bands?
I got this phone last week and am on Tmobile. I'm getting 50mbps down with no drops yet. I love it. The only problem I had at first was with calling, but after enabling voLTE by typing *#*#86583#*#* into the dialer, problem solved.
I'm on Cricket and pulling stable LTE constantly, though I haven't left town with it yet. Probably Band 4, but 20 is also a possibility.
h20 wireless with uses ATT network shows 4g not LTE However Tmobile shows LTE

Install LTE Discovery from play store - it will show you the bands you're connecting to, signal strength, towers in your area and a bunch of other useful stuff

Which Global version do you speak of? If you're referring to Max 3 Global ROM, which some stores pre-install - that ROM has no impact on availability of additional LTE bands.
My black 6gb/128gb arrives today from TradingShenzhen to me in UK. I have an EE UK sim in slot 1 and AT&T US sim in slot 2. I won't be able to do the best tests since I'm obviously in UK currently, but at least you'll know whether you're covered internationally and how dual sim functionality is .
On T-Moblie
I am in TX using T-Mobile and the connectivity was horrible regardless. Even had T-Mobile store try to help.
Anyway, I followed the Xiaomi advice to revert to the China ROM (the "Global" Versions are BS and have this connectivity issue from some suppliers).
I need to flash the ROM tonight since I wiped EVERYTHING after fighting with it all night.
Apparently wiping "System" in a Xiaomi might be a very bad thing. I'll find out. I used TWRP BTW.
I’m referring to the authentic Global ROM that should be onboard the Hong Kong exports.

I may need you to send me a recovery image of your phone, if you can, when you get it.
I'm hoping I didn't fubar this one, but I can fastboot and get into TWRP so I don't think it's a total loss.

Thanks for the recommendation - I am indeed pulling band 4 at all times.

Any speed test data to share? Network congestions in your area are obviously not the same as mine, but during low load times your tests still give good indication what that CAT 12 LTE modem of SD636 is capable of.

I would, but it would be moot since I'm on Cricket and data speeds are capped at ~8Mbps or so, if I remember correctly.

I believe so since changing to comes ROM stoned it for those that could. I'm out of town so I can't play with it to get it back functioning.
Mi Max 3 just arrived . First off blue color amazing. I'm in Houston on T-Mobile running original China ROM, after adding all Google apps and tweaking some settings as far as syncing this phone is running awesome here in Houston. Super fast and really loving the build quality the phone is huge in person and I can't say enough about blue color.
