[Q] Screen Auto Dimming Problem on B125 - Huawei Ascend P6, Mate

Hi. I got an issue with screen backlight while playing a YouTube video or a Facebook video or any video even if it is from the gallery, while playing a video the screen's backlight keeps going dimmer and lighter, even if i turned the smart backlight feature on or off!
I saw that a member here confirmed that this issue has gone by updating system to b125, but I confirm that this issue is still exist with me!
Please help, what can I do now?

Already disabled Smart Backlight feature, but how can I disable Pulse notification light? and How it could be involved in such an issue?!

Any suggestions?

HOX automatically dims brightness after 30 seconds

I' ve got a strange problem: regardless of any brightness settings, my phone dims down the brightness after 30 seconds. When I touch the screen it goes back to normal, but after 30 seconds it dims down again. It's annoying. Anyone got a solution for that ???
TIA
tonox
This is normal behavior when autobrightnes is disabled.
o.k. - but I got this behavior with auto-brightness on !

settings - display - sleep is "never go to sleep"
and still I got this annoying dim-down ...
That is also normal HTC behaviour.
The screen will stay on, but it will dim regardless of your time-out setting.

No, not that I'm aware off.
Even with Tasker, the screen will stay on, but it will dim...

Auto Brightness broken with 4.1.1?

Has anyone noticed that their auto brightness is kind of broken after upgrading to JB? For example, if I'm in a really bright area and go into dark, the screen does not dim itself, however this can be fixed by going into settings and un-checking and checking the auto brightness box.
Obviously this is pretty annoying... Is there a fix for this?

I've noticed the same. It stays bright a lot of the time in dark places. I haven't noticed it staying dim in sunlight though.
To me, the way it was before seemed broken. It would constantly change its brightness level. This was effected by the light reflected off clothing, etc
I love it now

He he good one
But I Dont find any issue with it either. In fact, if you dig in, you'll find the process consumes 30% lesser battery than before ie. Screen + sensor timing and refresh for both...

I'm actually pretty sure this is the default behaviour for ICS as well its only 3rd party roms that added in the ability to auto dim as well as auto bright the stock way is it only goes dimmer if the screen turns off and back on other wise it stays at the maximum brightness
Sometimes if I'm using the widget to move from full to auto brightness and tap very fast, it'll sit at full brightness. If I toggle slower its fine. Definitely some bug there.
I think auto brightness is much better in 4.1.1. Before it was far too dim, now it seems just right in all conditions.
I'm using the app "Lux Auto Brightness" and it couldn't be doing a better job.
Definitely check it out if you're unhappy like I was with the stock auto-brightness
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
that has been the default behaviour from ages for stock goole rom:
the autobrightness only can increase...it doesn't decrease, unless u lock and ulock the phone or check and uncheck autobrightness
that the intended behaviour google want..the brightness get increased, but not decrease..
So you're saying that the auto feature in 4.0.4 was broken then?

Yes, it delayed the lock screen and when I set my phone down under a bright lamp and it woke up hours later in pure darkness, it might soft reset.
happens to me as well on stock 4.1.1. if I'm in a dark room and put the phone under a lamp or something, the brightness goes up instantly, but it never comes down until I lock/unlock the screen again.
in fact most of the time I think the thing is too bright (but that may be because I come from a nexus one always on the lowest setting since the autobrightness there didnt really work well).
it's a minor annoyance definitely
Same Problem with Note2!
Hi guys,
found this thread during my search for this brightness issue. My Galaxy Note 2 has the same strange behavior. But I figured out something: when I lay down the device to a table or bring it to 0 degrees in my hand, automatic brightness it's decreasing perfectly! Can you confirm this behaviour at your nexus? I guess it's a kind of strange Samsung " feature", maybe?
Thanks, Michael
Ahoy, I was also researching my auto brightness issues when I found this thread. I can confirm the behavior from the previous post on my SGS2 on Jelly Bean 4.1.2.
If the phone is in vertical position and I do the lamp test, it will stay on maximum brightness no matter what, but in horizontal position dimming works perfectly.
Regards,
zytrel.

[APP][Android 6+] Ambi-Turner - wake up ambient display

I've created an app that wakes ambient display when you take the phone out of your pocket or if you have the phone face down and turn it over. The app is in addition to Google's ambient display and does not change your lock screen in anyway.
I added a few other paid features for lift to unlock, wave to unlock, pulsing at an interval, and battery percentage display on the ambient display.
I have a thread going on the Pixel XL forums and a number of people have been testing it out. I think it's stable enough to start spreading the word.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions or run into any problems. Thank you!
Check it out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.ambiturner
I'm interested, but it appears your link is dead.
Edit: found it in play store. Went ahead and got pro for lift to wake.

Thank you! I fixed the link...cut and paste truncated the link.
I'm testing it since four days and can absolutely recommend it.
No battery drain here at all. Proper functionality and even more options with every new version.
Keep up the great work.
Edit: do you have PayPal? I'm gonna hook you up with a beer.

Haha, thank you. The app support is more than enough thanks!
Just bought the pro version. Coming from a note 7 and missing that ambient display, this great app will do.
Looks great.
Thank you very much sir
Trying it on a Nexus 6p. So far i'm loving it.
Bought pro, thanks!
So I've done some limited testing with the app white listed from doze and so far it improves the responsiveness significantly. I don't know the battery impacts yet, but if it's not noticeable I'll add code to prompt users to white list it.
Other upcoming changes:
Advanced settings to adjust wait times for how long the phone has to be in your pocket or laying flat before a wake can occur.
A pulse option that initially pulses faster when a notification comes in, and progressively shows down until the timeout.
Possibly change in lock screen battery indicator appearance.
Filter on laying flat thresholds. I suspect the accelerometer incorrectly reports the phone tilted while it is laying flat on occasion.
Just bought the Pro version, thanks for the nice app.
Unfortunately the ambient display doesn't light up on my Pixel if the phone is unlocked, e.g. by SmartLock. Typically, I have the phone lying next to me on the desk at work or at home und the phone is unlocked by location based SmartLock. This is where I would like to see incoming notifications without touching the phone. Do you think this is possible to implement?

Doesn't work for me.
More important (maybe only for me): the screen doesn't light up without interaction if the phone is unlocked by smartlock. That's the same behavior as with the ROM build in ambient display feature. It only lights up the screen when the phone is locked.
Thanks a lot for looking into that. This would overcome the disappointing original Google ambient display implementation!
If i can help somehow (testing,...) please let me know.

Do you still have ambient display enabled in settings? Mine is working with the location smart lock turned on and ambient display enabled.

Tested again..
Ambi-turner enabled.
In display settings
Ambient display : on
Display timeout : 15sec
Security settings:
Pin lock screen after 10min
On/off button locks immediately
(I'm not on an English version, hope the translations are understandable)
The phone is in an area where is unlocked by location based smartlock.
Test 1: wait for 15sec until the screen switches off, wait another minute, send me an WhatsApp from 2nd phone: i hear the notification sound, screen doesn't turn on. If i turn on the display using the on/off button i am on the home screen.
Test 2: switch off the screen by on\off button, (i can hear the lockscreen notification) and send me a WhatsApp from another phone. I hear the notification sound, screen turns on and shows the message. If i turn on the phone by on/off button I'm on the lock screen.
Pixel, version NDE63H
Just bought pro - nice job!
I' ve just tested it on my Nexus 5 with PureNexus 6.0.1 rom. PN has ambient display function in settings but it doesn't work because Nexus 5 doesn't have pick up sensors or pocket sensors. Therefore I've been looking for some solution how to wake it, for example cmactions-wave to wake or similar. For the previous period I've been using GravityBox but it's battery hungry.
I see now that ambi-turner works also, so testing it ATM...

Android 10 - how to return ambient mode on double tap?

On Android 9 Pie we can enable ambient mode when double tap on screen for checking notification and time. On Android 10 double tap turn on screen. Is any solution to return "old-fashion" double tap? I have root.

If your using the EXKM app, disable native DT2W, then enable it in the EXKM app. Works very well :good:

That's odd. What method did you use to update to A10? Was it a clean or dirty install?
I did a dirty install of the factory image, and DT2W works as it should with the EXKM method
I used clean install. If you'll disable dt2w in kernel settings and enable it in firmaware settings will you get ambient mode?

Yes, I still get ambient mode. I just like the EXKM version better just because it's faster to wake the lock screen :good:

If this is what you mean by ambient mode, then yes I do. However, I suspect you don't. It's a feature I have never used, so forgive me if I mislead you. Or am I confusing ambient with AOD? Which is also a feature I never have used?

Not any more apparently. Personally, I don't really get the point of it. It's just a darker version of DT2W the lock screen to see the same thing. But that's just me I reckon.

No, it's not. When screen in ambient mode it not reacted on touches. Now on Android 10 my phone in pocket occasionally turning on display (at walking) and I have false touches - for seven minutes my player stopped twice, once change track and once turned off BT wich caused disconnection of headset. It pisses me off! Now I just turn off DT2W and had to turn AOD that drain my battery. Hey, Google, are you OK?
