know how to bypass mobile hotspot cap? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I use foxfi to tether to my PlayStation from my phone. Today I got this txt msg.
Free T-Mobile MSG: You've used 3GB of Smartphone Mobile HotSpot service & will be blocked until 06/07/2014.Any work around for this, or do I have to wait until next billing cycle ? I heard there's ways to hide your tether usage but I haven't found 1

If you have unlimited data then you're going to need to purchase a vpn. They can average around 3 dollars a month

elesbb,
I am going to get a VPN as I want to be able to tether more than my 5gb tethering limit (unlimited normal data). Can you give me some help on how to set this up? I plan to use a router so I can connect my PS3 and tablet. Do I connect the other devices to the router, then the router to the phone or do I have to connect the devices individually directly to the phone? It's not clear to me how I connect it all.
Second, is private internet access (PIA) as good as anyone else?

You can connect the PS3 and Tablet directly to the phone's tethering. I had used a free VPN service just to see how/if it all works and it does. The free VPN was throttling my bandwidth so playing PS3 games online was horrendous. But you simply download a VPN app to the phone (or use the one already there) enter in your account details for the VPN, then simply connect. Now all data flowing in and out of your phone is encrypted and annonymous through the VPN.

BTW, Private Internet Access is pretty good. Here is a list of other Top VPN services to check out. Personally, I'm thinking of going with Private Internet Access.
However, others i'm looking at are:
ExpressVPN
BTGuard

Thanks man!

I got tagged by Tmo for exceeding my tethering cap. Installed PDAnet+ and it works perfectly after two days. The only drawback is you can't wifi tether and must USB tether but I'm still happy.

How exactly does att detect tethering? Can I vpn?

I am still on a grandfathered plan and would like to keep it.
When I connect to my work network, it routes all traffic... Vpn and random Internet traffic through the vpn tunnel..
If i tether while I'm connected to my vpn, can att detect it? I would think not since it's encrypted?? Or is there something I'm missing?
I'm worried that tethering would force it to use atts gateway/ip instead of the vpn.
Does anybody know?
Thank you!

guess i'll find out...
couldn't get wifi tethering working.. anytime i enabled it 'settings' would FC (maybe because i froze tethering provision apk?
so i tried foxfi - and that wifi tether would turn on - but it would change the routing tables of my vpn.. and use normal 4g/att internet
but i have bluetooth on my laptop!
connected to vpn on phone, enabled bluetooth DUN on foxfi - and on my pc when i check my ip on third party websites (i.e nwtools.com) , it shows the IP of my VPN....
so far so good, i hope they can't see this traffic.

How to Tether internet from your Note 2 to your android tablet (XOOM)

There is now a modified wireless tether app that works with NOTE 2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988735

Good day all:
So I LOVE to tether internet from my phone to my Xoom, but wifi tether doesn't work with (stock-rooted) Jellybean- YET
I tried Foxfi and it says use Bluetooth, well I tried to connect the two over bluetooth and share internet naively like I used to do with my Photon, but that didn't work either. :crying:
So the answer is in the communication between the two.
It's easy really:
1. Install PDAnet tablet on the tablet.
2. Install the newest version of Foxfi on your Note 2.
3. Start Foxfi bluetooth DUN on the Note 2.
4. Start the PDA app on the xoom and connect the two.
5. Enjoy mobile internets from your phone.
See that wasn't so hard.

Wireless tether doesn't work on (stock) Jellybean builds. No luck on sprint GN2. If you did indeed get it to work I'm sure there are lots of people who would love to know how. Do you have sprint? Do you have a Note 2?

I linked the APK file in the OP. Sprint blocks tethering apps in the market. You'll have to side load it.

That's the problem you don't have to click activate hotspots just leave Bluetooth checked on foxfi and do the rest from your tablet.

huge tmobile tethering problem

So I'm almost lost on where to begin. I feel like I have tried everything but here we go.
Sgh m919 4.4.2 rooted stock. Rooted via towel root, Knox warranty void 0x0
Plan: unlimited everything (unlimited 4G lte all the time) 2 lines 5gb hotspot for $100
So for a long time I used wifi tether router to create a hotspot for other devices like ps3s and computers to connect to. This would use my unlimited mobile data and wouldn't touch my regular hotspot count. It worked amazingly! But at some point it started to use my regular hotspot and I was directed to the dreaded tmobile upsell page. Well this pretty much ruined my life because I live in a place that provides Internet and won't let you get your own and it's super slow. Like less then 1mb per sec slow. .. So i have been desperately trying to find a work around. I had countless emails with the developer with the end result being him saying here are some vpns people say they have had success with I can help you no further. So i tried those but it did not seem to work at all. I tried using several vpn applications with wifi tether router. Vpn applications with it all built into the app and you just have to hit connect to open vpn. Then I found these guides and tried this method: http://kingoftweaks.blogspot.ae/2014/03/wifi-hotspot-through-vpn.html?m=1
http://digiex.net/guides-reviews/gu...phone-vpn-gateway-bypass-tethering-block.html
but that didn't seem to work either. So i went back to the past and tried using other methods from before rooting my phone. In the past I would use pdanet+ to usb tether a windows 7 laptop and use the Internet connection sharing function to share the Internet connection from pdanet to a router plugged in via ethernet cable. It worked back then and worked this time, for the most part. You have to use hide tether usage level 1 to bypass the upsell page. In the past this wasn't a problem. I could do anything just as if connected to my hotspot. But now I can't get netflix to work on anything but a mobile device. Not my ps3, computers, smart tv, nothing. User agent switchers don't solve the problem. So this gave me another idea. Try to use the computer as a vpn gateway. So i downloaded open vpn client and tried some free vpns. I wasn't using pdanet at this point. I was trying to connect the computer to wifi tether router and basically encrypt all Internet traffic from my isp (tmobile) using a vpn. So if I start the vpn and am connected to the phone via wifi and share the wifi connection to the router I still hit the upsell page or it will keep on trying to load Web pages in the browser but will never load them. So when I use open vpn client on widows 7 it creates it's own network adapter. So i tried to share that to the router and connect another computer. It barely worked, speed was awful according to speedtest.net . While running vpn I can watch netflix after downloading Microsoft silver light on computer running vpn but not very well. So i thought maybe I could use my computer as a vpn server but was unsuccessful. I tried fiddler in the past but all it did was mess with my computer. I tried wireless tether for root users and the treve mod version, this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/how-to-tether-blocking-fix-t2544487 and several other things.
I really need help figuring out how to get tethering working again.
My needs are complicated as well. I wasn't to keep Knox unvoided for one. I as well would like to be somewhat mobile with my phone. I don't want to have to keep it plugged into the computer all the time to have Internet access. Which means even if i get pdanet working with Netflix that's just temporary. Ultimately i would like to use just my phone but know that just may not be possible.
Ultimate goal: wireless tether using just phone with good speeds, ping/latency.
Acceptable goal: wireless tether to computer and share internet connection through router to maintain mobility with phone.
Temporary goal: get netflix working with pda net usb tethering.
I need to be able to use netflix on ps3, computer, and smart tv.
My ideas that I have no idea how to implement.
Use the computer to encrypt data from tmobile, vpn? Proxy? Ssh tunnel?
Use another phone to pick up the wireless tether router hotspot and somehow force pdanet to use the wifi connection of that phone instead of the mobile data it tries to use normally or mask the wifi connection as the mobile data connection or something. Basically use pdanet to share the extra phones wifi connection so I have mobility with my actual phone.
Ps. When using wifi tether router other andriod devices can connect and use application like normal but nothing else.
Can anyone help me get my tethering working again? I need help really bad and would greatly appreciate it.
No one wants to say it, so I will.
You need to get yourself some good old fashioned Internet access from an Internet provider.
Tmobile is on to your data abuse and put a jihad on your data black hole.
Downgrade your Tmo plan and buy into some Internet access from your local provider.
Pp.
Has anyone found a solution to the OPs concern for how to get tethering working again through T-Mobile? It use to be that you could use an app like: Tether (from Clockwork Mod) or EasyTether (from Play Store) to get around T-Mobile's restriction on tethering; however, those don't seem to work anymore (ever with user agent spoofing) - has anyone found a current solution for tethering on T-Mobile?
No.
Pp.
Whatever VPN witchcraft PdaNet+ uses to hide tether usage makes Netflix unusable on a PC. The way around this is to unhide the tether usage, load whatever it is on Netflix you want to watch (once the red circle starts spinning is good enough), then re-hide the tether usage. I don't know if doing the same will let Netflix work properly on your other devices, as I've never tried. I don't have Netflix anymore, so I can't try with my TV's Netflix app.
It's a nuisance, but it's something one just has to put up with if you're using your phone plan as your home internet. I don't understand the reason this happens. Websites still detect your Windows version and browser just fine, yet Netflix thinks you're incompatible for some reason.
FWIW, Amazon Prime doesn't have this problem.
I also don't know why WiFi Tether Router stopped working for you. It works fine for me.

HOW DO I change my NAT type from 3 to 2 using from my mobile Hotspot

I have been looking for months for a solution this problem that I have been having. I have a Playstation 4 and I am using my phone as a mobile hotspot to provide connection for it while using the native tethering that comes with the phone. When connected I'm on NAT type 3 and would like to be on NAT type 2 for the purpose of being able to connect with others online easily for gameplay. My phone is rooted and everything is up to date on it. I ask that when providing help that you please be as basic and thorough with the instructions. I also would like to apologize if this has already been asked and solved. I can also provide whatever screenshots are needed.

You must have a public IP
The app has support DMZ, but unless you have public IP that does not work"

I believe you need to check your router settings for VPN support. There should be a wiki for wherever that leads you. Either third party firmware for your router or integrated support. Firmware from DD-WRT, OpenWRT, Tomato and some manufactured routers have it integrated as well.

I downloaded the OpenVPN app, it's a bit confusing just to start up, but this looks the most promising so far.
Easiest fix is add the Static IP service for $3 a month to your line. Gives Sony a direct line in to you. Worked for me NAT Type 2 all day. Fixed loads of connection drops on GTAV using my Note 4 as a mobile hotspot.
From Sprint?
Yes I am with Sprint, and what Skyymiles said is true from Sprint as well.

You're right. The problem is like mr Grasso said in his PM reply to the OP. You need a public IP in order to have a NAT type 2. However when tethering with your Note4 by either usb or the Wi-Fi hotspot you are using Sprint's IP which is not going to allow NAT change. The method that @ianmb mentioned above is probably the easiest way to achieve this as you can bridge the internet connection and be able to re-configure your ip on the laptop on the latter side of the bridged connection. Make sense? I will be looking into this as well. If I get a good solid method of achieving this I will post a guide.

@raider09 @texasrejects91
I have been trying to achieve this for a little bit and haven't gotten it yet but I have hope for a few methods in part because of this thread
It should be noted that I am actually trying to create an OPEN nat for Xbox Live but unless I am wrong this would be the same ultimate goal I.e. forwarding traffic inbound to a certain ip address (that of the game console in question) aka port forwarding
Port 88 (UDP)
Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
Port 80 (TCP)
It should be easy as googling the proper port configuration for PlayStation network
you should ve able to set the ip address to a static Ip from within the software of the PlayStation (this is not your Public IP but a local one) to use for portforwarding
1) the first option I have begun looking into is thatof a portforwarding app (port forwarding ultimate by ice cold apps) He states in his replies to customers that this is indeed possible, however Iam too much the novice to do it. tx_dbs_tx might know because it includes coding in linux but I he, as a developer, is Im sure able, but busy of course. However he has stated his willingness to help in this forum. Ihave emailed for support the dev of the app and am awaiting a reply
2) using terminal emulator it has been stated that you can forward internal ports but again it involves linux coding
3) this method has been alluded to by @samep. the open vpn access server service for android and client should be able to create and deply the proper port forwarding configuration for achieving an open nat for gaming and it would be in a manner that is slightly more user friendly. I have port forwarded with udp and tcp protocols from within the software of my routers before and As such with my.limited knowledge.I am trying to achieve this in another window on my phone as I type this, but took a moment to comment.
4) The fourth is the setting up a bridged connection using the methods to whichtx dbs tx has stated he would try to post a guide . This shouldn't be too difficult but I am trying other methods at the moment and since a bona fide expert has offered help here I will leave it to him.
I will post back later as I find info. 1of these 4 should be an option
If type 2 nat is different from open please let me know as I am browsing this forum with hope of finding my own answers as well.
I haven't tried any of this to know if it works but googled this. Does it work? Demo on S4 but carrier is unknown.

PortForwarding Ultimate is a free app for three rules. Would someone with a little more knowledge than me, just about anyone, download it or if without that and perhaps from the attached, tell me if adding a rule for for just incoming port and destination port adds this rule for both UDP and TCP protocols or for all incoming traffic or would you have to code that in a custom command option laid out. If custom command necessary. In thumbnails I have set static IP for my XBOX to 10.0.0.2

WiFi tethering

I might not be in the right area so if someone can point me to it I would appreciate it.
I remember a few years ago my phone the EVO I hadn't root it yet but I wanted to use my phone as a hotspot (at the time I didn't have that feature included in my plan) so j searched the internet and was able to find FoxFi wifi tethering which allowed me to use my mobile data as a hotspot.
I'm faced with that issue now on my Note 10+ and I'm looking for something similar to that so I can use my mobile data as a hotspot for my fire stick. Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried the FoxFi and pdanet in the app store but it doesn't seem to be working

So, for WiFi Direct Hotspot, make sure you have PDANet installed on your computer and right click on the the icon in the system tray and click "Connect to WiFi (your devices name)" and click the WPS button on your phone and you'll be connected in a few seconds. As fas as a device like a smart TV or Fire Stick, at the very top of PDANet on your phone it will say Name: DIRECT-xx-SM-N975U (or something to that effect as it WILL change every time you toggle it on and off) and Password: (upper, lower and numbers) and manually type that into the devices network settings that you are attempting to connect to and it will connect no problem. It's a bit of a pain that you have to redo it every time you toggle it, but, hey, it's free Hotspot. The BT mode on a PC is the same as above except you right click "Connect Bluetooth" and it's noticeably slower but it still functions and USB tether works the fastest in my usage on a PC. Keep in mind that if you don't have the paid version, it will cut you off after about 500MB of throughput and then you have to reconnect. I use my 100GB of Sprint allotted tether for my Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc... and PDANet for my PC gaming needs and it works just fine. Let me know if this helps or you hit any roadblocks!

Gotcha. What about for PlayStation or Xbox?
Here you can see my data usage which reflects to PDANet and my actual tethering usage that Sprint can see. Also, that my phone is currently connected to both my laptop and my desktop and showing my data usage as reported to Android.

PS or Xbox, just plug in that info at the top of PDANet in the network settings on your console.

Ok so I entered the password into my PlayStation and it's asking to either use or not use the Proxy Server when I hit do not use it doesn't work when I hit use it's asking for the address. Would the proxy be my phone's IP address?

Probably bc it's a PS4 and not an Xbox seriously, though, change just the port to 8080. If anything else, if you have a PC with WiFi you can always try WiFi sharing in Windows 10. Lmk what other pieces of equipment you have. I'm generally pretty good at figuring out a solution to this kind of thing.
