[Q]Disable phone auto-speaker? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello...I was wondering if there is a way to disable the feature where the phone changes to speaker phone when not next to your ear...thanks
[JTC ONE m8]

It doesn't do that on mine. I have to touch the speaker icon to change to both loud speakers. I think you are just getting confused with how loud it actually is when using the normal ear phone speaker.

Try to disable chrome for a while and check if you still have a problem.

Holy crap... I'm sorry
Just checked automateit and forgot I had downloaded the rules to make this feature work... They were turned on but under the inactive tab so I didn't check it. I feel like an idiot, mods feel free to delete this thread.

This shouldn't happen on the stock setup. The OP of this thread had created rules in the app AutomateIt to turn on the speaker automatically.
Are you running an app, custom ROM, or other mod that might be causing this?

[Q] Speaker auto turn-on when calling

Hi guys,
Since a few days, for some reason my phone automatically turns on the speaker when I either make a phone call or am being called. I tried turning off the car mode auto-launch and I downloaded a free app called Car Mode which also didn't work.
I also searched some other forums, it seems that this is a common issue on the normal Desire. Some people state it's a hardware related problem, others say it's software related.
Does anyone know what's happening here?
Thanks
When your phone is on call, and you flip your phone over face down, the speaker would activate. Please use the search before posting for god sake.

I have tried during call a few times but it did not switch to speaker mode.....why ?
audio defaults to speaker
this has just started happening for me too... hence coming across your post...
feel like a **** sometimes when I pickup my phone and put it to my ear to start talking and the voice blasts out the speaker instead
Did you find a solution?? I'll post back here if I find a solution....
On another note.... thanks for the help LittleJerc...

solution...for me anyway
I feel like a little bit of a LitteJerc now myself... I just restarted my phone and phone calls dont automatically go through the loud speaker anymore... why didnt I try that before.... the classic 'have you turned it off and on again'.....
See if that works for you!!??

Sound in speaker in silent mode.

I hear the faint noise / buzz / snap the speaker even when I have silent mode enabled, anyone else who has or had?
Solution? Hardware or Software?

When do you hear this noise? Always, or when you are receiving an incoming call?

When I press the screen to launch an app or make a selection from some menu.
And I can have the phone vibrate or silent, is the same in both cases.
I have 2 Gnex (Maguro), my oldest I have to put your ear against the speaker to hear this, but on my brand new sound is very clear.
Exact like this-

I see. Odd thing. Cannot reproduce it with my gnex. I don't have any advice on this one, sorry.

Same sort of thing happens when you lock your lockscreen.
There's about ~1 second of static after the actual lock sound (or alone if you have the phone on silent).
It's been around since the GNex came out. Nothing bothersome to me at all, really.
I can see how this could annoy someone, however.

On my new GN (bought 8/8-2012) is quite high sound coming in silent mode.
On my old GN heard only very weakly.
Should be a software problem.

sound from Moto 360

curious to see if anyone has heard any sound coming from their Moto 360? I ask b/c I have not heard anything aside from the vibration when receiving a text/e-mail, and I see a "mute" option when pulling down.
thanks!

Good question, maybe the mute is for when you have bluetooth headset or to mute notifications?

It has no speaker, so it makes no sound. The mute option keeps notifications from showing on your watch screen.

As above. It has no speaker. Muting hides the cards you see on your watch so you always see the clock face unless you tap or swipe up.
thanks for the responses all - I guess if I wanted to mute the cards, then I can do so via the app on my phone. just thought that if you show a picture of a bell, that usually means a sound of some sort.
i guess it's interesting that the watch has a mic, but no speaker.

Well it vibrates, so you dont need a speaker, and since it's tied to your phone your phone could always make the sound. You wouldnt want them both beeping would you?
Well, I don't keep my phone on me at all times. I often times leave outside my bedroom.

i do. especially when using timer/alarms. would be nice if they included a basic timex-style beep/bloop for stuff.

right - plus it's not unprecedented to have watches emit sound.

Callee: very bad audio when calling

Recently I have been getting very bad sound when calling someone.
I can hear the callee perfectly but they can barely hear me, I sound like a 'fish in the water' or with a very big 'echo'.
This has been the case after updating to Lollipop.
Hi,
i have the same issue...
i cant use the handsfree or microphone as listeners report they can hardly hear me....all since the lollipop update...
any ideas ?

I Am Assuming you are using Stock Lollipop FW from Sony
Head to Settings>Call
Enable Microphone Noise Suppression, Set the Equalizer to Bright and enable the Speaker Voice Enhancement
Also make sure you are on Max Volume when In-calls

Nope, I only tried the solution suggested above, I have yet to encounter the problem again.
I just tried same thing with equalizer. I will see if this will work. @Devenda, any news since 2 days ago?

Nope, still stable, I tested it but the audio was clear.
Problem is that this issue comes and go's randomly, so all I can do at this moment is wait...
None of the suggestions described worked for me. This bugged me so much I was forced to run to RR rom.. Problem solved but I miss Sony's great battery life ??
I have the same problem.
Only the equaliser was different (normal), I've changed it to bright and will see.
Don't you think it is a problem with radio reception ? I'm not sure but I think I have not the same number of bars than before. I haven't got an other 4G phone to compare.
Equaliser doesn't work for me.
I have changed prefered network, it was 4g prefered. I've changed to 3g. It seems to be working.
Can somebody try ?
I solved my problem during the calls when i unchecked the improvement of voice
If you have tried all the other options and still not working but you have v4a sound mod installed, this might help - http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/help/viper4android-deactivates-mic-t3124764
I had same problem after update to lollipop and try everything mentioned before and nothing helped. Then I low down speaker volume ( volume key down) while call is active and that worked for me. I suppose that lollipop have some problem with duplexer. Level of sound in speaker is litle low but at least caller can understand me normally.

Greetings, I hope you are fine.
I'll just let you know my experience with that, I had a similar one to yours. Instead my voice was stuttering and ghostly, like something came out of Paranormal activities. xD
The only solution I found to this was that it was a problem with the hardware itself, IE. the mic of your phone. Maybe you wanna give your phone to the warranty company and see what they say about it. In my case, they fixed it and it's working fine now.
I hope I helped
Yours.

Headset mode

Recently whenever I answer/make calls my g3 automatically goes into headset mode without a headset present, upon ending the call it goes right back to normal. Any ideas on whats causing calls to be in headset mode or any ways to manually prevent this?

Are you on a custom rom? Any sound apps installed? Did you try Hard-Reset? Seems like a broken headpiece or a bad routing policy.

No, Nope, Yes. It only goes into headset mode during phone calls for some reason, if I play a video or anything its perfectly fine.
