I'm running a rooted version of Samsung's default ROM of 4.2.2 on an SCH-i435, and I can't access the camera on the lockscreen while I have any type of security enabled whatsoever. The "Favorite Apps or Camera" option is greyed out in the options menu as long as I use a PIN to unlock my device. Is there any app or tweak that can get around this?

Hello,
I just installed a Jelly Bean rom (Vicious) on my galaxy nexus and for the most part everything works great. One "feature" that drives me crazy is that enabling any security (PIN, pattern, face unlock) disables the slide to unlock screen. The problem is that I really like the ability to use the camera (by sliding to the right) without having to punch in my PIN code and unlock the phone... Does anyone know if there is a setting or mod that allows for sliding before security?
Thanks much! Nick
Try widget locker - it lets you add both sliders to load apps and widgets of your choice to your lock screen, then once you slide-unlock you get to your pattern or pin unlock screen if you have one.
I have a fairly minimal set up but apparently you can do some fancy stuff with it - they have their own user forums.
Available in play store,$2.99.
If you want something free there's a couple of other apps that do something similar although with fewer options (not tried by me).
I thought that 4.4.2 was properly implementing the Lockscreen widgets where the access to things like Camera is provided so that you can quickly record a photo/video without having to enter your PIN or pattern but when you need to actually see those images, you will be asked to enter PIN or pattern. That's how it works in all phones (at least my wife's HTC One).
How come we can not get this feature in S4? I thought this is what they fixed in 4.4.2 but I am still not able to select Lockscreen widgets if I use PIN or pattern.

You see that icon only because you are not using the secure access lock like a PIN, password or pattern lock.
One of the advertised features of the 4.4.2 on Samsung S4 was to bring the Camera icon to the Lockscreen. Wasn't it?

Technically they DID bring it to the lockscreen. You just have to have your lock screen set on a specific unlock method. It's actually kind of obvious why the camera icon is only on the swipe method. All the other methods require extra security and a bigger layout for the number pad/keyboard/and pattern circles. Plus if you're going to have that kind of extra security in locking your phone, it's dumb to be able to bypass that with a camera widget. Somebody can get ahold of your phone and load the camera up without even unlocking the device and easily go through your gallery. And who knows you might be able to get to your homescreen by hitting home from within the camera app after loading it. Then the person has full access to your phone.
Personally I don't see the big deal of 4.4 having a camera icon on the lockscreen. You were always able to add shortcuts to your lockscreen so why not just add your camera app to one of those shortcuts? Meh.

Wait...I think you are confused. The ability to add widgets to the lockscreen was always there since 4.2. You just had to move to this insecure method of "swipe to unlock". This is not new in 4.4.2.
What was supposed to be new in 4.4.2 update for Samsung TW was what has been a feature in almost all phones since 4.2, and that is to do it securely i.e. allow opening the camera app and allow to take photos and record video but don't provide access to the gallery or the phone. When the user wants to access anything inside the phone, he/she has to enter the PIN/password/pattern. That's how it worked in any sane phone circa 2012/13.

Yeah I am aware it's been available since 4.2. I get what you're saying now, my bad.
If you are rooted, you can try an Xposed module called Samsung Multiple Widgets. This allows you to access the camera if you are on a PIN unlock screen. I've had success on 4.3. The module, for me, isn't working correctly on 4.4.2. You can try it yourself.

That module is broken and its dev has been saying "anytime" now for sometime. He is a busy guy! So, I don't expect that to change.
That was the reason why I was excited about KK update for TW, hoping that Samsung will finally do it. But alas, no luck!
I have setup one of the motion gestures to open the camera app but I keep getting the lockscreen pattern prompt. I thought we no longer had to enter the pattern for the camera?
Maybe I messed up some setting while customizing the ROM. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks
I recently reverted back to stock LP (20G) from CM12 and I'm having an issue with the lockscreen. I know that by default, LG has specific apps on the lockscreen but you can change them in Settings. I don't seem to have that option (see screenshot below). I also have the pattern lockscreen with smartlock for face detection enabled just to get Android Pay working. I've tried disabling the pattern lock, disabling the smartlock, wiping the cache, factory reset, everything. Anyone have any ideas on how to change those apps? I don't use the stock LG messaging app and don't need the Gallery to launch from the lockscreen.
Thank you in advance.
Change your lockscreen to Swipe, then it reappears in the lockscreen customize section. Edit your shortcuts, then change your lockscreen back to whatever you want.
It is on swipe. I tried turning it off, changing types, and it's currently back on.
Hi,
yesterday I became 5x owner and I read everything about problems with unlocking with FP If you use "lock sreen app for it".
But that's not problem, since my phone is rooted and I can use one of solutions.
My question is ...
Is there any solution to use JUST fingerprint unlock, without having PIN code/pattern. Why?
If you press power button to get lock screens on and than tap on notification (SMS, email) you have to put PIN. And that's annoying.
If i use FP unlock than you came directly on home screen and in you have to open taskbar to see notification...and that's annoying too.
Or maybe same question from the other side. Is there any solution to open notification from lockscreen without PIN code/pattern, BUT with fingerprint on.
I also noticed that form ambient screen I can double tap notification, but again, PIN code/pattern ...
Thanks for help!
Even I wanna know a solution to this.

Tap the notification on the lockscreen. When the PIN entry appears, do the fingerprint thing and it will take you to the app that was making the notification. It works, but is kind of awkward.

oh jeah, i realized ... Thanks. Really awkw.
Is there no other more elegant way? I don't want the damn PIN at all.
I just want a pure stock way not to use the power button so much (not gravity screen), which is what I thought the FP was all about.
I guess I could use a really simple pattern...so it's super quick. Annoying though.
Why is it that we are still having to adapt our behaviour to technology? That is the opposite of good HUI design.
Start with No LockScreen
Use Secure Settings App to set PIN/PassWord
Set up Imprint
Use Secure Settings App to disable Pin/Password

I'd thank you, but I'v used up my thanks for today (!!). So, a cheery "thanks mate" will have to suffice.
I do wonder a few things though.
1. Does Secure Settings need root to do what you suggest? I'm not rooted.
2. The closest thing I can find is the Keyguard Disable, which is a legacy feature and presents a warning that it may make my device unstable and it therefore not recommended. Is this the correct setting for my n5x 6.0.1 April?
3. I couldn't see any obvious option in Secure Settings to set a PIN or Pass.
Thanks.
You can delete all the files with .key extension in system/data folder using file manager in TWRP. It will give you fingerprint+no pattern as you want it to be.
are there any news on this topic? Im really interested in using my fingerprint sensor without setting a pin. I tried the method with secure settings app, but I cant find an option to set a pin with the app. I also tried to find my files with .key extensions in my system/data folder but there werent such files. gururoop said I need to use file manager in TWRP to do so, I dont even know what TWRP is.
Any other ways to get this accomplished? Did you find a solution tedrogers61?
You need to be rooted to delete the files. You only need to remove /data/system/locksettings.db
hmm well okay. Im actually not so happy with rooting my device. No other chance to use imprint without setting an additional pin/passwort?
Simplest way to use set unset PIN/PASSWORD in Secure Settings is by temporarily adding a home screen shortcut (via launcher widgets/shortcuts). The process of creating the shortcut brings you to the screens for selecting the actions (Dev Admin actions). Secure Settings needs to have Device Administrator permission. Once you are set up if just delete the shortcuts. No Root required for this.
