Hi,
I dont't like Sonys Dialer, Contacts and Incall apps. Is it possible to replace them with Androids original apps?
I tryied it yesterday and could replace Phone and Contacts but the Incall app stayed stock. I couldn't replace it.
Is it possible? How can I do it?

You're gonna need to root your phone for something like this to work. My suggestion would be to just skip the original ROM entirely and just install AOSP or CM11.

Hi guys
I have a quick question. I don't like the incoming htc call screen, because everytime when I get a call and I try to get the phone out of my pockets, I keep accepting or denying the call.
I already switched from the htc lock screen to the stock android one and now I want to have the original incoming call screen aswell.
To get the original lockscreen is easy.. I just had to delete the htclockscreen.apk in system/app
Howeveer I didn't find out how to get the stock incoming call screen. I tried to delete phone.akp and htcdialer.apk but then my phone and dialer stopped working.
Do you guys have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

No wonder that your dialer would stop working when you delete htcdialer and phone apks. You need to have them to make calls.
You can use apps to have different lockscreen. I don't know if it is possible to have both htclockscreen and android lockscreen together.

Yea I know the apps, but they don't behave as fluid and easy as the original call screen.

Is there any way to do the same thing with the HTC call screen?
Greetings
use "dialer one" from the market

But I dont want the dialer =).. All I want is to remove the incoming call screen from HTC (you have to pull down a lever in order to pick up the phone or push the lever up to deny the call)...
oh ok...the whole thing is incorporated into sense i think. So if you are not a big fan of sense you can try nosense script and and alternate launcher. But then you have to change the htcdialer.apk with something else

Yes that's absolutely the point. I used Android Revolution HD 3.3 with the no-sense script. However they decided to keep exacetly the HTC call screen because they think it is great.
I dont think so Can I for example switch the HTCDialer.apk with the one from the CyanogenMod Rom? Because I know that that rom has the stock call screen.
Sorry to bring this old thread up again, but I've got the exact same problem. The Sense call screen sucks. I occidentally reject calls whenever I pull the phone out of my pocket. Which APK contains the call screen? Is it contained within the dailer app?

You cannot simply remove the dialer apk. everything is integrated in Sense I am afraid. Unless you know your way around android files, I don't recommend replacing or deleting apk.
Anyways, the apk you are looking for is htcdialer.apk and htclockscreen.apk in the folder ./system/app
Good luck
Try No Lock from the market place its a simple app that disables the lockscreen or enables it maybe it may help you guys who dont like answering with the lockscreen
I installed a new dialer on my Arc. Please advise how to set it as default, thanks.
go into the applications menu in settings and find the stock dialer app.. select clear defaults, next time you select to royal a contact it will ask you which app to use.

my problem is I couldnt find the stocked dialer in application menu...
Not 100% sure, but it could be a part of the contacts app.. try clearing defaults in there..won't do any harm if I'm wrong!

This worked! Ive been trying unsuccessfully on my MT3G without any luck. Doing this fixed it all. Thanks for the suggestion!
Which third party dialers do folks recommend? I'm really missing the HTC dialer which will lookup numbers if you start typing in either a name or number, the SE xperia arc dialer is just pants.
I am using " Go Dialer", it work just fine with intelligent dialer and possible to change theme outlook
Was using dialer one for a while, and it was great. Then the app got updated and all of a sudden required permissions for just about everything on the phone - didnt trust the author, so uninstalled.
Currently using... um... dialer2, which from the name i'm guessing is a response to the bloatware and permissions creep of dialerone. It's a nice simple fast t9 dialer, it's free, and it works great.
Touchpal dialer works best for me.

Thanks folks! let me check these out!
Go Contacts is the best and I think I tried all. They have different themes and the default Go Theme goes well with Arc's dark blue colors. It will be even better if someone can develop a theme for this dialer which will make it look exactly like Arc dialer.
@piercewei
Did you manage to find the stock dialer app in the end? Which one is it? As I'm also having trouble finding it. The contacts app on my phone doesn't have clear defaults button enabled.
Tried to set rocketdial as default instead of "contacts" .. doesnt do the trick.
Cant find any "default" dialers at all on xperia arc.
How do you guys really do when you change the dialer? do you live with the stock dialer at incoming calls and during calls?

I'd really want to know the answer to this question! I'm struggling with the same problem with Xperia Pro.
The Sony Ericsson default dialer sucks, but I'm unable to make a third party dialer THE DEFAULT dialer.
Any help would be useful!
Since installing ICS, the phone dialer doesn't have the tabs for contacts, keypad and call logs all under one app. But it did in gingerbread. So I'm looking for something pretty much like the default phone app but with 3 tabs at the top saying Logs, Contacts and Keypad (or Dialer), instead of the two separate apps called Contacts and Phone. The default contacts app has groups, contacts and favourites, and the default phone app has keypad, logs and again, favourites. Well I don't need favourites or groups. I can't really find anything suitable on the market, can you recommend me something preferably with a dark background? Something like this,
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/8216/icsdialere4touch.png
but without all the rooting and mods needed. Also, if I install a dialer app from the market, will it delete my contacts and call logs or will they remain intact? Thanks.

Contact.apk is a system application, you will need root.
Try GoDialer or something like this.

Your contacts will be safe if you install a new contacts or dealer application.
As stated previously you can try GoContacts.
Only dialer that suits my needs (I have tried tens of them) is DialerOne: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kz.mek.DialerOne
try exDialer.. i tried them all and it's the best IMHO.
it also has themes and can slide right for call and slide left for SMS.
Thanks guys. Yeah, I'm liking exDialer a lot so I'll go ahead and install the darker themes. :good: I was expecting a separate call log screen but it's cool how the logs and keypad are together. I also like that it actually tells me 'outgoing' 'incoming' 'not answered' and not just indicator arrows. When I make a call from it then uses the default samsung dialer screen (speaker, mute, headset, add call, end call, keypad). It doesn't matter but I thought it was going to have it's own interface. I also installed aContacts which is quite good but I think exDialer is better.
You can download Go launcher and then buy the ICS PRO CONTACTS is the closest dialer to the one u r looking for mate.

Thanks Lonzo. Well tbh I'd been using Go Launcher for a while but it was so slow opening things, even not responding, that I'm using Apex Launcher now which is way better. I've installed the exDialer ICS theme and it looks nice and works well. :good:
What's the disadvantages of not rooting your phone? my phone lasted unroot from postman hands to my door only lol. Before the phone arrived I already downloaded the required stuff. Enjoy the freedom of rooting.

yes... I had Go Launcher since GB days but for ICS is kinda slow.. APEX is better.
and ICS Pro runs with no lag on APEX... Ex Dialer looks good indeed...
HI, got the kitkat 4.4.2 on my 9195 4G LTE and the stock sms app has added some stupid contact icons next to every message you send or get. I know its a small thing but IT REALLY REALLY ANNOYS ME! Add that to the stupid txt and call alerts that appear on the lock screen... well I really wish it was on 4.1.2 like my old S3.
Well to combat the lock screen rubbish I rooted and used an Xposed module to disable the alerts.
Now the SMS app, does anyone know if the stock ANDROID sms app has the message icons? Or is this a samsung thing?
If the stock android hasn't got these message icons then can I remove the samsung version and install the android stock sms app? (If so where would i get it)
If not, does anyone know how to remo e the message icons? And I have tried other sms apps and don't care for them.
Thanks

At least on Cyanogenmod 10.1, the icons are there as well. I would bet dollars to donuts it is on the AOSP one too (as CM wouldn't have touched too much of this app form the AOSP original).
But I can fire up my AVD's and check out AOSP for you, even look as to what version the profile photos were added.
In the stock dialer, it requires more steps to get to one's contact list or dialer pad (for T9 dialing)
Has anyone found a good way to open the dialpad directly from a homescreen shortcut, or access favorite contacts directly?

thanks - I have GB and the option checked, but it doesn't do anything for me
tried using secure settings to access all the child activities under the phone app as parent, but none of those worked either
the multiple steps just to make a phone call is frustrating ... guess as time goes by, devs start to forget that the smartphone is actually meant to be used as a phone (too)!
