Is it possible to unlock the LG-LS970 without tearing the phone apart and soldering a sim card in it? Or atleast get a prepaid plan with it? It use to be a sprint contract phone.

I'm not quite sure this is what you want, but:

You can flash the phone to change the nv settings and allow use of it on a prepaid network such as Cricket or Metro PCS There are other networks as well such as Ting (I think you don't even need to flash to use Ting) https://ting.com/byod
I was wanting it on StraightTalk. I've seen people have this done while searching but I cannot find out how to do it. I'd like to do this without having to sodder anything.

Go here http://www.straighttalk.com/wps/portal/home/h/byop/registration
You can proceed with registering your CDMA phone to Straight Talk. I tried with mine (Lg Optimus G) and it went through but I didn't want to go very far because I do not want to actually register my phone to ST.
I have just purchased an LG OG that seems to have been flashed to Page Plus Wireless while the seller said it was ready for sprint activation, any idea on what I need to do to revert back to sprint?

Might need to be flashed back depending on how the NV items are held. I flashed an HTC evo once to cricket and when I did a hard reset the flash went away. You can try a factory reset through recovery.
But first I would check the esn to see if it will even be accepted on sprint. A lot of times phones get flashed because they have a bad esn with sprint..
check it here.
http://swappa.com/esn
Thanks for the reply. I purchased the phone via swappa and it passes their ESN checks, I also called Sprint customer service and they also verified that the ESN is clean. However the chat representative claimed that it must still be active on some other carrier.
I have also used kitty wireless's meid check and it comes back as active_with_ppc and has what i assume is the old owners phone number. Any ideas? Is it as simple as flashing the correct stock rom/radio/prl and then going through the Sprint activation process?

Glad the ESN is good for you.
I think the issue you might have is that it is still active with another carrier. You can try to run through the process of flashing it using qpst. I think the settings for the other carrier are still there.
First try to flash the radio and prl and add it to your Sprint account. But like I mentioned, Sprint doesn't like when the phone is still active on any network, you may have to contact the buyer to remove the phone from their account.
Is the phone rooted? What ROM is on it? What does it list for Radio and PRL now?

Phone is rooted, and came with stocktimus. The seller also left several other roms and backups, as well as pageplus prls on the device's storage . The current prl is 44018, although the network is listed as Chameleon in the settings.
Baseband: M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0 1690
Kernal:3.4.0
Buildnumber:Stocktimus_0_v1
Software:LS970ZVC
If there is other info that might help please let me know. Im new to LG devices and the last device I have modified was a moto atrix.

Try to flash the ZVC radio and do a reset on the phone. Looks like you might need to flash some files using QPST. Also since you are on a stockish rom try to update the PRL within system updates. It might pick up the current Sprint PRL of 25019, that should help with activation. I don't know if it will pick it up since you are not on Sprint at the moment but it's worth a shot.
If that doesn't work, find a way to flash a newer Sprint PRL with QPST (I don't think you'll find 25019 on the net yet) then try to update it on the phone.
You might try some of these codes too to see if you can do some NV changes, seems like the one for network reset or clear OTA provision might do the trick, I stongly suggest you make a full backup including an EFS backup first before doing anything.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052816
Here is the thread to create an EFS backup, do not use the zero EFS. The Optimus_G_Create_Flashable_EFSv4 zip will create a flashable recovery of your EFS (the EFS holds you ESN and other good stuff to make the phone work)

Looks like the phone is still registered on Page Plus, I had KittyWireless run an ESN check and the MEID came back registered to another number and the status is ACTIVE_ON_PPC. Looks like I'm going to have to return it unless I can get the original owner to cancel their Page Plus account.
Flashed the ZVC.bin, phone rebooted and after conneting the USB it rebooted again to a black screen. Hard brick I am unable to boot into fastboot or download mode. Any fix besides JTAG?

As most of you may know the SGS3 had issues with phones that had lost their IMEI. About two weeks ago I released a method to backup and restore the NV Data as well as to inject the missing IMEI back into a phone that had no backup created. Unfortunately these phones that injected their IMEI were unable to get more than 2g network access. I have since added a custom app to my solution that has been confirmed to restore 4G connectivity to phones that lost their IMEI and injected their IMEI back onto their phones!
If you have not backed up your NV Data and your phone is working fine please do so to ensure your IMEI is safe by following this thread:

Thank you to the community for their support in helping resolve this issue!!
Updates:
-Added new custom app for fixing data issue after imei injection!!!!
-Added support for TMobile, Telus, Rogers, and Bell users!
-T-Mobile binaries have been updated in custom app and full data restore after IMEI injection has been confirmed

So it is safe to say we've nipped this IMEI issue in the butt?

I just ran a complete backup using geek's method, then uploaded to my DropBox for safe keeping.

I'm breathing a sigh of relief for this and also for a probem I and a friend had tying to root his Sprint SGS 3. We thought we bricked it! Good to know we don't have to worry about this issue once we get the thing properly rooted.

Huge thanks for this... I have a question I made a backup using both this tool and the simple one, let say God forbid I was to loose my imei, I would then restore it and get my imei back but will I get 4G? If not is the new app supposed to help me get 4G back or is the app for people who didn't have a backup and injected there imei back, sorry if this is a stupid question

Restoring a backup will restore your phone to functional form including 4G. The custom app is used for people who lost IMEI but did not have a backup created. Since you have both backup methods then you should be ok. Hope that answers your question =)

I will be releasing a new version of my custom app soon that will allow us to backup/restore/inject IMEI/restore 4G/Roaming all in one app without having to open QPST.
It will make life easier and will have the intelligence to identify if your phone is having IMEI issues when you connect your phone and recommend a fix option for you (IMEI injection or 4G/Roaming restore)

I hope this is any day now, I lost my IMEI and didn't have a backup. I saw the other thread geek made and pushed my IMEI back to the phones, but my data connection is still inconstant and very slow while connected, it will say 3G but EDGE:2 in the settings. I am guessing a lot of T-Mobile users did not see my original post about resolving the IMEI issue.
The data issue is also covered in my original thread as well as how to backup/restore the NV Data and how to do an IMEI injection.
The data issue for your T-Mobile phone is already supported. Please pass the word around as I believe there are many who are stuck in your situation without even knowing that a solution had already been developed and released. =/

Wondering how flashing and the other IMEI works on sprint as I have a Verizon gs3. I backed up mine because of the chances of losing it, but it I'm curious how it works on sprint. A friend trip d flashing a modem and said he lost his IMEI and it says missing SIM or something.
How does one go about fetching the same IMEI oj a sprint phone or fixing what is described above.
Also, are there precautionary measures for backing up imei on sprint like on the verizon (synergy has a script and also nvbackup command)
Any help would be appreciated, and thanks..

I've never heard of flashing a modem on a phone and losingi the IMEI or it saying it's missing the SIM. If he flashed the incorrect modem, he wouldn't have data or be able to make calls, more than likely. To try and retrieve an IMEI, he can go to settings > about phone or go to the phone dialer and dial ##786#, but note, the dialer code will not work on AOSP based roms such as CM10 or LiquidSmooth and is not going to work on Verizon models as well. Backup of the IMEI shouldn't be necessary as it's always going to be stored in the memory of the phone.
I was wondering if I can flash a rom to my sprint lg optimus g without losing its flash, I'm currently using it with cricket

thanks for the info, really appreciate it!!
Flashing ROMs should not change the modem or carrier specific flash data because that is stored on a special partition.
I had mine flashed to Page Plus and was wondering the same thing but I had to upgrade to ZVB so I decided to bite the bullet and try. I did the LGNPST and reloaded ZV9 that way then rooted and unlocked then flashed the updated radio zip with "ZVB Stock-Rooted" Rom (800mb zip) and followed the instructions on that thread, re-rooted and was able to maintain my flash through all that. All IS GOOD
Also, if you have an issue with the "Hands Free Activation" pop-up, look at my thread on it.

I got 4G LTE fine (after changing to a different "pta" APN) but couldn't call. Found out I flashed the baseband for the E988 instead of the E980. I went to CWM and flashed the proper AT&T E980 baseband after a CWM wipe and restore again....my Sim still wasn't working
I saw some things that AT&T can deactivate a SIM if they detect a break in...can i just buy a new SIM?
I used the LGFlashTool. flashed back to stock completely. (relocked and unrooted) and it still gives me the red "X" near the signal strength and it won't save APN's
contacted online tech support said that "AT&T deactivated my SIM card as they thought my phone was being broken into and they thought it was stolen" is this something new? can I just get a new SIM at the AT&T store?
i've rooted and flashed an (including my significant other, co-workers at various places of work and my own handsets) HTC thunderbolt, HTC rezound, 2 Galaxy SIII's, a LG Optimus S, LG Optimus V, ZTE Warp,Galaxy SII, and even a Droid Razr and I have NEVER had the provider deactivate the Sim card because of hacking.
was the tech support person "Andy" trying to scare me?..is it true?..or did I bork the SIM by flashing the wrong baseband the first time?...because my SIM still isn't working
any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thought I had read on some of the ROM threads that flashing an incorrect baseband can cause some major issues, such as wiping out your IMEI...
You simply needed to use LGFlashtools to return to stock and your phone would have been fixed. Always make a backup of your currently 'FULLY' working Rom that way if something goes wrong, you can return to stock and be up and running. What happened was that your baseband was incorrect after flashing the wrong modem. Flashing the correct modem didn't fix it fully because that partition became corrupt. Restoring a fully functional backup would have fixed that issue.
Glad you got your phone returned though. Hopefully they don't bill you when they see that your phone is rooted and hacked. They might.

Hi All,
I had purchased T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919) with Stock android 4.3 while I was in usa, and want to use it in my home country now as I have left usa. I couldn't found any unlock solution on internet for stock android 4.3, and T-Mobile would not give me the unlock code. I tried third party services to provide unlock code and it did not work either. So I went to a local shop, and he screwed everything up. When I went back to the local shop to receive my phone (hoping it might have been definitely unlocked by them), he told me that he tried to downgrade it to 4.2.2 but it did not work (only after reading through all the forums I realize there is no way to go back to stock 4.2.2 if you are on stock 4.3 because of knox / bootloader issues on 4.3, leads me to think the shopowner did not really do his research before touching my phone, and no, he did not do any EFS backup). In an attempt to unlock my phone, he also flashed Metro PCS stock ROM on my phone, not to mention, my IMEI number is also 'Unknown' now. I managed to get back on T-Mobile stock 4.3 ROM now but still IMEI is unknown. I also tried to go to nearest Samsung center and they said they would not touch international phone models. At this point I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions how to get back my IMEI and or at the least to get the phone working to my country's network?
Thanks.
Try flashing the mk2 modem using odin. That may work but not sure.

The local shop broke it. Tell them to pay for it.
Also, the only reason T Mobile won't give you an unlock code is if the phone isn't paid for in full. If the phone is paid for in full, they HAVE to give you the unlock code.
Are you sure you didn't buy the phone in the US, then leave the country without paying the bill so you could use the phone internationally without paying full price? If not, there is no reason T Mobile wouldn't give you the unlock code. So there's some missing information in this story.
Also, we do not discuss how to change IMEI's on XDA. The only thing permissable on XDA about flashing IMEI's is restoring YOUR OWN IMEI from a backup. That is done by restoring the EFS partition. But you didn't have a back up so you can't do that. That means anyway to fix your IMEI involves what is an illegal hack and that discussion is expressly not permitted on XDA. That information is used for illegal purposes and XDA is not going to be the place where it's shared for legal reasons.

Hi skipjacks, thanks for responding. Nothing is pending with t-mobile, I was on prepaid account. I bought the phone like 10 days before leaving usa (due to emergency). T-mobile says my number on this new device should have being working for at least 45 days or so with refill balance. My cycle ended after 15 days of purchase and I really didnt see any reason to refill it as I was no more in usa. And no, I dont want to CHANGE my IMEI, only want to restore my own IMEI only. I am not sure if my EFS partition is corrupted, because I rooted my phone tried to backup EFS folder now (I know its too late but still), deleted it and rebooted (as a few threads suggested it would regenerate nv data files), but neither did I see any nv files when I did a back up now, nor after I rebooted. When I rebooted, the EFS folder did regenerate but there were no nv files in there. Also, after deleting EFS and regeneration the serial number was corrupted, but when I restored my backup, the serial number showed up correctly again. Also my current backup contains the imei folder with mps.code_bat file. I noticed that even imei folder was not regenerated on deletion of EFS and reboot. I somehow have the feeling that this is still indicating that my original EFS folder is still present (though I may be wrong, because I dont know). But my concern is the nv data files, which I dont see anywhere. I did come across several threads about imei corruption and restoration, but the only one I didnt come across was T-mobile SGH-M919 with stock android 4.3. I am wondering if this has some different file storage structure for imei (which again I dont know). At this point I am concerned about getting back my imei, I can get the unlock code from some reputed paid service again. I understand that open discussion about imei involving anything CHANGING IMEI is not allowed here. If anyone could just help me out restoring my original imei, even by pm, I would really appreciate it. I just dont want to throw away the phone and lose my money because of the error done by repair shop.

First off....the enter key is your friend. Hit it every so often when typing giant blocks of text like that.
Second, since your IMEI has been deleted, you now have to change it, even if you just want to change it back to what it was before. The process to fix it now is what can't be discussed here.
IF you had backed up your EFS partition, then it would be as simple as restoring it in recovery. That's all well and good. But your IMEI is now 0, so you have to change it to what it was.
But all that aside, you went to a store and they broke it. Take it back there and raise holy hell until they fix it for you or buy you a new one. I know consumer protections are stronger in some countries than others, but wherever you are, yelling and screaming is a universal language.

Can someone at least tell me what file in T-Mobile Galaxy S4 SGH-M919 Stock Android 4.3 contains imei number, so at least I know if I even have that file or not or whether it is missing? Thanks.

Whether your file is missing, modified, or corrupted, you need your /efs folder to restore it. You do not have have a nandroid backup or the /efs folder. I am sorry but the simplest we can put it without sounding harsh, you're screwed. You need to request the local shop give you a replacement phone or credit to get a new one.
Update: I went back to the shop and told them "You broke it, you fix it, I don't know how and I don't care, you gotta fix it". They managed to fix the imei number somehow. Regarding unlock, the shop ended buying the unlock code themselves. They mentioned that no one is able to unlock T-Mobile S4 with Stock 4.3 as of now without unlock code, unless they have some device like Z3x box. The phone is finally unlocked and working fine on my network. (YES, A HUGE HUGE RELIEF).
Everything is fine, except for 2 issues.
1. I want to backup my EFS folder so that I don't enter into trouble with IMEI again. I tried EFS Pro, but its not working. All I see is "'Initializing ADB server..." (the phone is rooted, usb debugging mode enabled, and supersu permission granted when prompted). I also tried to backup using Andromizer, but it says "Notification: File not found in /storage/emulated/0/Amdromizer/efs/efs.img". What is my best option as of now to backup and store my imei safely somewhere?
2. I am having issues with Wi-Fi. Before the shop flashed my phone, it was all good, but now it doesn't auto-connect to my home Wi-Fi anymore. Everytime I reboot or get out of range, I have to manually select my home network everytime and also enter the password everytime. Nothing has changed on my router. The other Samsung device that I have still auto-connects to my home Wi-Fi as usual. How can I fix this?
Thanks.

For the efs you can back it up using recovery. Just boot to recovery and its one of the options in the backup menu. The resulting file will be like a few KB. Its supposed to be small. Dont worry
Sent from your phone. You should be more careful where you leave that thing.
Tmobile gave me an unlock code and my phone isn't paid for but I used the region lock away app before I got the unlock code and it worked but u got to be rooted
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
