I am using the stock ROM on the Galaxy S4 mini LTE, and I am using Samsung's Smart Alert to know if I got a call or text message while I was away from my phone.
I leave my phone on the desk, and when I come back I just pick it up for a second to see if it will vibrate to let me know if I got a call or text.
Right now I am using the stock messaging app that is on the phone, but I would like to switch to something else (Hangouts or EvolveSMS). I have tried both those apps but one thing I can't stand is that Smart Alert does not seem to work when I use them.
This is a deal-breaker for me because the S4 mini does not have a notification light and there is no way (other than Smart Alert) to know if I got a call or text without turning my screen on.
Is there any way to make Smart Alert work with non-stock apps?

So I picked up a G2 to replace my Iphone 2G, which I've had since the thing came out some four years ago. I've gotten used to my screen lighting up and showing me new text messages on the lock screen, and this feature doesn't exist as far as I can tell on the G2. When I receive a text, it vibrates and plays my notification sound, and the touchpad light blinks periodically. What I would prefer, if the phone is sitting next to me on my desk, would be for it to light up and show me the text and who sent it like the Iphone does so I don't have to unlock the phone and open the messaging app just to see if it's important.
I bought widget locker so I could customize my lock screen a bit, so I suppose if there were a widget for that, I could just toss it on there? Does anyone know of this type of widget? How would I have it turn on the screen for a few seconds when I receive a text? Is this even possible?
Otherwise, I love this phone. Android does so many amazing things. It's like having a computer in my pocket!

When I receive a text message I want the screen to wake up for a few seconds. I can't find this option.
Using stock EVERYTHING right now.
I know other apps like GO SMS and Handcent have this option. But, anyone find a way with stock text message client??
no way to do it with the stock app. Unless someone finds a way to make it happen
I think the led notification is all ya get with stock with i like because it uses less battery
Lightflow app (led color control app in the themes/app section) does it as well as sms reminder etc. Theres a bunch of apps thatll do it for the stock messaging app.

Can't do it with stock... at least not stock phones on Sprint.
The stock SMS apps on US Cellular Android phones do this... I'm running a ROM on my Moment based off the Acclaim (DL25), and the SMS app turns on the screen for a couple seconds if not in use, or beeps quietly if you are on a call.
Hello all,
I am a huge fan of SGS3's "Smart Alert" feature which vibrates the phone when picked up from the surface if you have any missed calls or unread messages. Since, I don't use stock ROM now and have switched to PACman, I wanted to know whether is there any alternative so that I can use this feature on custom ROMs not having this feature.
One way I can think of is having a Tasker task (not sure whether it'll work) . So please suggest an app that does this.
Cheers.
I made it myself
Never mind. I made it myself.
A useful app which will alert you when you have a missed call or an unread message.
Never miss a call or message now.
Check out "Smart Alert".

I like the stock Messages app for its "favorites bar" and the direct-call motion functionality, but i can't stand that it turns the screen on every time a new message comes in. It is a problem when the phone is in my pocket and a message comes in and the contact between my phone and my leg (even through my pocket!) causes my phone to do things - or at least sit there and make noise as it tries to unlock. I'm using Google's Messenger app for the time being, but i don't like it as much. I think this used to be an option in the Messages app on my Note 2. Any suggestions? Thank you,

I have a Huawei Watch connected to a LG G4 and one annoying thing about it is that for some reason the missed call notification is not syncronized with the phone. If I miss a call I get the notification on the watch and on the phone, but if I dismiss the notification from the watch it won't dismiss the one on the phone and the other way around. I think this is because they use different apps... I think the phone uses LG's dialer and the Huawei one so they probably would synchronize if they weren't different. Some times, after boot I notice the missed call notification being different (and in my own language), which mean the watch shows the phones notification. Is there any way to properly synchronize the two or disable the Android Wear standard one?
