[Q] Screen Random Freezes - After Replacing Screen - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Alright, after much angst and struggle (got the wrong parts etc.) I finally was able to (successfully?) replace my Nexus 7 2013 screen. After charging it and excitingly using it after 2 weeks of it broken I noticed something peculiar. Every once and a while my screen freezes up, the touches are still there as I can here taps and audio, but the screen doesn't show anything new (just freezes). I simply lock & unlock my device and it returns to normal.
I just reset my tablet and it sadly still persists. I would prefer not to have this broken as we learned the hard way when not using a static band when replacing my dad's Nexus 5 screen (it's been a bad tech year for us).
Just a FYI and summary, Just replaced my Nexus 7's screen and digitizer assembly, not it randomly freezes the screen and a quick lock and unlock fixes it.
Any advice? Thank you.

[Q] Advice on unlock/digitiser issue

Hi
I upgraded to my new DHD less than 3 weeks ago. It is not rooted and I did the recent OTA update over Christmas.
Over the last couple of days I have started to experience difficulty unlocking the device on the slide-to-unlock screen. The problem seems intermittent - somethimes it will unlock fine, and other times the slider just seems to "get stuck" at the bottom of the screen.
At first I thought this a bug or something, but after some investigation I am concerned there is a problem with the digitiser. I opened a picture and zoomed in to fill the screen and tested the touchscreen in different places by sliding the picture around. What I found was that the bottom 1cm of the screen above the keys does not respond properly to Up and Down swipes. It is fine however with side-to-side and also individual taps. This is obviously a problem when trying to move the unlock slider!
I've had a screen protector on for about a week - I don't imagine this has caused the issue but haven't removed it to test as yet as I don't have a spare. Aside from this, the device has been very well looked after, definitely no bumps etc and kept in an HTC leather pouch.
Any ideas? Should I return it to CW?
Thanks
OK, I seem to have resolved this for the time being but expect the problem to return.
I downloaded a screen test app that allows you to draw on the screen and got some very strange results. A 1cm band of screen about 1cm up from the bottom was completely unresponsive. Trying to draw a horizontal line within this band would result in lines being drawn either above or below it, or strange vertical lines "jumping" around. The rest of the screen was fine. I realised this is why I have been struggling to close the keyboard - the button is placed within this band and trying to press it would result in on of the buttons above or below being pressed. Also have had problems with the sapce bar.
I did a restart (not fast) and this has resolved the issue, however I expect it may return as I did a restart only yesterday.
At least it is obviously software and not the digitiser....
Hi again. As expected, the issue returned after a couple of hours. This time however, restarting is not making a difference.
I resorted to a hard rest, which has not changed anything either.
Any help/ideas would really be appreciated...
Best to return it for repairs or exchange. Seems like the digitiser is faulty.

I agree, this definitely sounds like a hardware problem.

touch screen starting to not work

hey,
I had a problem a few days ago where some parts of my touch screen (near the home, menu, etc. buttons) started to not work. and today when I woke up, the whole screen is not working. It seems to respond every now and then, but barely.
I'm assuming this to be a hardware problem, but I am not sure. Anybody had a similar problem before? disassembly would be my last resort, how should I go about fixing this? Thanks.
I have the same problem. about a half inch band across the very bottom of the screen. Weird thing is sometimes the whole screen will become unresponsive (if it stays on for too long) then turning the screen off and on and unlocking the phone makes it go away for a while. The digitizer glass in my phone seems to need replacing. I've scoped a replacement out online (don't have the link) for about 30 bucks. there are also many assembly/disassembly videos for the phone. Looks like it will take a lot to get the digitizer out.
I was having the same problem... Just replaced the digitizer and still have the same issues... anyone have an idea?
I have a similar problem but with the soft keyboard. It becomes unresponsive very often..tried many roms and diff softkeyboards but the ptoblem still there

LCD replacement issue

Hi all - having issues replacing the LCD/digitizer in my z1c. Initially I had dropped and cracked the glass - and the screen became unresponsive - although the LCD display still worked. I bought a replacement screen and during installation when I first turned it on to test it - there were vertical lines all over it, then after disconnecting and reconnecting it, it did never lit up at all. Hence I sent that screen back as defective. I now have received another replacement screen from a different provider. Similarly, after connecting and attempting to test it, this screen LCD never displays either. However - I can tell the digitizer part works because I can hear the screen beep when I touch it. Is there something I can reset to kick the LCD back into operation? I will say that while troubleshooting initially - I tried a full reset using the sony PC tool - and I went through a SW upgrade along with the full reset - so I bet I am back at the initial language setup menu - on the newest SW version. Can there be something screwed up with that - or with the firmware or something? Thinking its got to be something on the phone side, do to the consistant failure with different replacements.
Any help is appreciated - if I can't get this screen to work I'll prolly just give up on the darn thing and get something new.
thanks!!!

Nexus 5x screen replacement problem

After screen replacement of my nexus 5x it worked the first time. After a couple of minutes suddenly the screen at the bottem became very hot and the screen stopped working when trying to poweroff/on again.
Since then I'm not able to make it work again.
When trying to poweron it is a backlit black screen that becomes hot at the bottom ( where the headphone jack is sitting )
Could this be a connection problem or is the digitizer simply broke ?
Rgrds,
Bump.
After replacing my screen I got a "fizzle" noise and the regular beeping. Then turned backlit black and got very hot. I had no idea WTF was going on with it. So I put my cracked screen back on and everything is back to normal. But I would like to get that new screen on permanently.
Any tips on this would be helpful thanks in advance.

OP 3 shuts down after I lock it

Hi there,
I recently changed the screen of my OP 3 because it fell on the floor and did not show anything afterwards (I don't know if this only damaged the screen or also other parts of the phone).
Now, the screen works very well and and the phone does turn on as well (I even type this with my OP3). But I now have two problems:
1) My phone shuts down almost immediately after I lock it (after one or two seconds I can still unlock it but after 5 seconds or so it is dead). It does not shut down while the screen is on, though.
2) It heats quite a lot during using and especially during charging. I know, this seems to be a general issue with older OP phones and happened to me as well, but never to that extent (after charging 30 min it gets overheated which never happened before).
Plus, there are two issues that might or might not be related to these to problems so I add them as well: My volume control buttons did not work before the screen replacement, which is quite odd, because the power button works well. And I think I have destroyed the home button/fingerprint scan while changing the screen.
What do you think, is there any hope of solving these problems without having to buy a new phone?
Best, thank you all!
Clemens
Oneplus 3's sides buttons assembly is really fragile. When i was replacing my screen i replaced it too. With my second display, i broke the replacement button ribbon and installed the original one. So you might broke it.
For screen issue, are you using latest OxygenOS? Because some custom roms have issues with third party displays.

Most likely a hardware issue. To confirm, clean flash OOS latest version (9.0.6 I think) and check. If it is ok, your problem is solved. If not, there are too many variables (screen, volume, home button and any other thing that you disturbed while replacing the screen) to trouble-shoot.
