Hi,
I've recently rooted my HTC One X (unlocked,...) Erased data and all, but i can't get all my storage... Memory in settings is showing 1 gb free of 5 gb app memory and I can't install any app, whereas the internal memory is free and has been erased as asked.
I have used factory reset, wiping data from CWM but the app memory won't get erased and still shows me 1 gb free only.
What to do to wipe EVERYTHING on the phone ?
Thanks in advance !!

You can't erase that space because it is used by system files, it's normal to get about 5 GBs used by system folders (/system, /data, /cache...)

Hi there, a bit newbie to the Wildfire S that I bought to my girlfriend. I pretty familiar with CM7 for my HTC Aria, but not with stock roms.
The Wildfire S is rooted and runs a stock ROM with Hebrew support. that's the way is was bought from the store.
We've only installed gmail and maybe another app, and you are left with only 30MB of space? is that the way HTC designed this phone?
I want to increase the phone memory and use the SD-card. If I create a SD-ext of 1GB, what is the best method to move apps and cache to the card?
link2sd
thx for the quick response.
does link2sd allows for dalvik cache moving?
after installing link2sd is internal is the SD-ext (like in Cyanogen) or it's the internal phone memory?
also, if I have a rooted phone can I remove some of the sense apps?
Just do factory reset first, then you'll have about 150mb of memory free.
And yes, you can delete system apps if you are rooted. But be aware not to delete some important apps which can cause your phone not to fuction properly.
As for the extra memory, I would recommend link2sd, I'm using it, and I have 100 apps installed.
You could also use data2sd, but you need sdcard class 4+ for that, in order for it not to lag too much.

correct, deleting system apps is possible if rooted
however these are on the system partition, so will not increase phone memory.
NO

your internal phone memory still 150M,but apps can move to sdcard,I think the best way is data2sd .

I've already did a factory reset once and I didn't got 150MB of free internal memory it was much lower, that's why I was puzzled to see how quick the memory disappeared. If I had 150MB free I wouldn't have any problem cause I don't need too many apps on this phone.
Is it better to create sd-ext with ROM manager and than use link2sd?
after root I recommend SystemCleanup APP to update factory default Google apps in system (save over 40Mb of space). It's easier than link2sd
seems like a great app, tried it on my phone not the wildfire and had a few FC. but eventually managed to do everything.
No problem on the wildfire stock ROM? phone is rooted.
I'm using link2sd on a rooted stock ROM. No problems, works great, 30MB internal free, tens of apps installed/linked to the SD Card.
@trevike:
do you remember how much internal free space you had before using link2sd?
no problem whatsoever, just DO NOT move to system updated HTC apps (for example Clock widget). Those will stop working. FC for moved Google apps are normal until you reboot the phone.
I don't intended to do so. Just wondering if there is still something left on the phone or that's' what's left with Stock ROM installed.
If I remember correctly, I used to have 4x MB.
120MB, well I should check it in depth.
I just did a factory reset and wiped data completely. I've only got 62.6MB free in my data folder.
SD Maid tell me that (used/total)
system folder 199/269
internal data 87/150
any ideas how to check what's clogging the data folder?

bit strange that you have so much space used after factory reset
i find 'diskusage' app very useful to visually see what it is taking up space in each partition.
if I'm using this correctly, then on the data folder the dalvik cache is in charge for about 74 MB. that's after factory reset and 5 apps installed.
If it is rooted then install Link 2 SD. Delete some useless system apps and move apps like facebook, youtube etc to SD card..
If you're on stock rom rooted, link2sd is better than remove some stock apps.
If you're on custom rom or stock rom with custom kernel support init.d, you can use DT Apps2sd to move dalvik-cache. I think its better than link2sd.
Or/and if you have sdcard class 10, you might use data2sd.

I am starting to get insufficient storage alerts on my M919 GS4. I have more than 4GB free on the main, and 50+GB free on the SD.
Is there a hidden partition that isn't listed that is getting filled up? Could Cache be filled, and preventing new apps from being downloaded, or some such nonsense?
Should I just do a dalvik wipe, or clear the play store?

What app are you trying to download?
I have noticed this behavior as well. Help?

Hmmm... You have 4GB remaining on Internal. I'm not sure, but below are some possibilities of what may be occurring:
But first wipe cache and dalvik cache as you suggested. If that doesn't resolve your issues:.
Can you post a screenshot shot from Settings:
Device
More
Storage
If the numbers add up, possible files taking up Internal SD/Device storage are:
ROM downloads
Nandroid backups
TiBu backups.
If the gb numbers don't add up in internal SD/Device storage:
Internal storage likely corrupt.
Move files from internal to extSdCard and/or pc
Boot into Recovery -
Data Format internal SD storage, Not extSdCard.
Reboot
Check internal/Device storage to make sure the numbers add up
Move any files back to internal that you moved before doing Data Format
Because you have 4GB internalSSD storage remaining, and even if the above 2 scenariosddon't pertain to you exactly, you may just want to Data Format Internal SD and see if that resolves your issues.
I mentioned a few scenarios in one post because I'll be off line for awhile .

using root explorer or any equivalent file explorer,
look in Data/Media/clockworkmod/backup
If you have used CWM to backup you phone it's probably going in there and when you make another backup, it's included in the next, and so forth compounding the size of each backup and eating all that space. you could move all the backups to the external SD card and have CWM create your backups on the External SD card instead, IF that is the problem.
I had that experience and could not for the life of me find what was EATING my memory space! just the backups and it's compounding took over 3/4 the entire space on the internal memory! Good Luck!
Aloha
Should have replied earlier, and could have sworn that I did.
The problem was that I restored a backup of rom toolbox. That had app2sd turned on. Since the gs4tmo does support app2sd the redirection was seeing zero space on device.
Turning off app2sd in toolbox fixed my problem right up.

You haven't wiped the internal sdcard, go to settings, storage, you should see an option to erase the SDcard, tap that and reboot, then perform another factory reset.

Could you please elaborate further on what you mean by "6 gb stay ant i got only 10 gb free"?
Also if you are S-OFF/bootloader unlocked you can flash a custom recovery (in this case TWRP) and use the 'Format Data' option in Wipe. It will completely wipe your internal storage (pics music, etc all files not on sd card), and leave your /system in tact. If you want to remove everything including your ROM then you can do Format Data, then Advanced Wipe and tick /system, /data, /cache & Dalvik Cache and wipe them all.

Well that's only a problem if you have a 32GB phone. If you have a 16GB phone, how much free space did you expect to have if the OS takes up about 5-6GB? Another 64GB free?
Not, I mean when I wiped data I have only 10 gb free, where are another 6 gb?

The other 6GB are used for the system, like I said before.
They don't install the entire system on a single partition. The HTC One M8 has 47partitions on the device. How is going to clear the data inside the partitions going to resize the partitions as well? It'll be the same unless you specifically resize the partitions yourself.
If I have a disk of 100GB and I make 25 partitions using 3GB, I used up 75GB leaving me with 1 partition of 25GB to put on whatever. Now I fill up the 25 partitions(75GB) in total, does that mean that on my 25GB personal data partition I suddenly have -50GB available? If I clear out all the data on those 25 partitions, does that suddenly mean that I have 100GB free space on my data partition along with 75GB total over 25partitions? No...
It's the same concept here. HTC uses 47 partitions on the device, among those 47 partitions is a data partition(For example 10GB free? ). On the other 46partitions they flash things like Radio, recovery, boot, cache, the system(1GB+) etc etc. You don't generally use ANY of the space on those partitions for yourself, you only get 10GB from the data partition. So out of the 16GB internal storage they gave you 10GB for data(For example) and the rest they split up between the various different partitions. Those partition sizes already get deducted from the 16GB just like my example above. Even if you wipe them clean until the blue moon turns to Swiss cheese you still won't get back those 6GB, it's part of other partitions.
I hope I explained ok, anyone else that wants to jump in to add and/or correct feel free.

Already explained above, but the short answer:
16 GB is the total storage capacity of the embedded SD memory chip. It in no way means you will have all 16 GB available as user accessible storage. Its simply impossible. A chunk of the memory has to be used for the OS, as well as other purposes (the partitions mentioned in previous response). In particular, just the Sense OS takes up at almost 2 GB.
Around 10 GB user-accessible storage is normal. No amount of formatting is going to change that.
Hi,
I just installed Cyanogenmod 12 into my HTC Desire 816 , for flashing I used TWRP. So the whole proccess was as follows:
1)Install CM via TWRP
2)Reinstall CM and GAAPS
Everything works fine and dandy but I have one big problem. My internal storage only shows 4gb of total space, from which I have only like 1GB of free space available. The phone originally came with 8gb of internal storage, and is just after I did this that it was reduced. I did clean up all the Dalvik cache, I also tried doing a new factory reset, but still it's showing only 4gb.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The phone shows 8 gb but half of that is taken up by the factory OS and empty space allocated for future updates in a seperate partition and the rest is system apps . I actually gained storage space in the partition with the remaining storage after flashing CM so I'm not really sure what's going on with your device but low storage space is just a known issue with this device. Obtain S off thru the Sunshine app ($25) or install a write permission script mod for your particular firmware called a WP_MOD.ko I believe here on XDA and then install Link2SD and get the paid version that allows you to move app data to external SD card then partition the ext SD card using a partition manager exe program on your computer following the Link2SD instructions and you will gain all the extra storage space you will need. I did true S off because I wanted to keep my SE Linux permissions set to enforcing not permissive which the write permission mod does but to each his own.
