Just a quick Q, does elemental work flawlessly for those who use dt2w? I've found if I leave my tablet for a while without using it and then come back to it (Like an hour or 2), double tap just does nothing. Just wondering if this is a known issue? Sorry, I'm new to the n7, but have had the n5 for a long time now so very familiar.
Doing a little research..
Before locking your tablet, I think you have to back out of all apps first to your homescreen, then lock it. Can anyone confirm this?
I've not had any issue with it. I have been running Elemental X on Clean ROM v2.7 for a week and it has worked as advertised.
Make sure you turn it off in correct way, since it can be disabled.

What's the correct way? I just press power button to lock..
I'm going to try a custom rom, and see if that changes anything. Already tried chaos kernel and same thing happened.

Thats' the problem. Pressing the power button cycles through the swipe/tap to turn on function. I never use the power button to turn it off, i just swipe across the bottom of the screen, or close the magnetic front cover to my case to shut the screen down

Think you've cracked it! Suppose I should have figured. Thanks a lot mate.
I use the power button to turn it off and have no issues. Just font select the option to disable it in the ROM setup and it works fine.

That setting is found when you flash the kernel. If you want to change the behavior of the tap to wake etc, you will need to reflash Elemental X
Awesome, works now. Must have missed that option the first time. Thanks all

Its ICS Camera+ that has this option I believe.
I have the ICS+ Camera (paid version) and that option is not there. I am also wondering what app is OP using.
This option is in the regular camera app in the rom that I am running. AOKP Milestone #4. ICS 4.0.3 last time I checked.
You first hit the settings button (the sliders button next to the zoom) then you hit the three little squares icon that is on the left. There you will find that setting.
That function works well on my phone. I set it to ON, and now my phones power button is the shutter button when my camera is open of course.
Thanks for letting me know about this feature =)

I just tried it and it works perfectly! Nice!!
Yeap, i am using AOKP m4
Doesn't work for me though.
tried it on stock kernel and franco's m1 but it still isn't working. it just switches of the screen.
Edit: you'll have to close the camera app and run it again and it'll work fine =)
Turn it on reboot your phone and then it should work.

I found you need to hold the power button down for a few seconds, then it takes the picture. Simply pressing it quickly does indeed turn the screen off. It would have made a lot more sense to use one of the volume buttons.
It doesn't turn the screen off for me. It works fine. I can press it quickly, or hold it down and release. Both snap the pic normally for me.

Yep I agree with the poster above. I can also do it as quick as possible, or hold down for 5+ seconds and let go, and both times it will take the pic normally (focused and everything).

Bump. Has anyone found or figured out how to create a cwm flashable file to mod the stock jellybean camera to do this?
It's been something that has bothered me ever since I bought my Galaxy Nexus. The existence of just one physical button to switch the screen on and off makes me question the lifetime of Power Button.
Does anyone know of any apps, mods, whatever for this? My first thought was to enable the Volume Keys to wake up the screen, I have also read about the proximity sensor but I don't think having the sensor active all the time is a good approach. Another way could be shaking the phone to turn it on.
Taken from a google search .... "There's an app called "No Lock" that will wake the Nexus One using the Volume rocker"
May work on the Galaxy Nexus too maybe but i dont know
Yea, I've seen that app too but it doens't do exactly what I want. Plus it disables entirely the lock screen which is certainly something I do not want. :\
look for smart screen on app, it enables you to turn your device on and off with the proximity sensor

Screen off & Lock works fine & cuts the wear & t4ear on the power button in half. I halve it set up as swipe action in Nova launcher.

Have you tried "ShakeOff"? Turn the screen off/on with a shake. I haven't tested it on the GN but it used to work on my old phone.

Also, you do realize there's only one way to accelerate in a car right? Are you worried that the pedal won't work everyday so you'll need to find an alternative way to drive?

that's a nice analogy. now consider this:
car's are made to last, let's say, for 10 years.
smartphones and electronics/gadgets in general aren't.
not even going to mention the "years of expertise" behind the mechanics on a car.
thanks - everyone - for the replies I will try those!
I will say the power button on this phone is we made and I'm sure it will last just fine

AOKP can do what you request.
my power button on my GN stopped functioning after 6 months of use. It requires me to press in very hard to get a response now or none at all. I'm in the process of backing everything up and beginning the warranty process with expansys. Have to say, I considered this to be the best phone I've ever had and this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
You could always try PGM Nexus (free). It allows you to unlock your phone by sliding your finger across the screen.

how so? I'm not one to nitpick small flaws, every phone has them. the power button failing is a major issue though. I would've still attributed it to a defective exception if I hadn't see many more people reporting the same thing. I did start using the volume rocker wake in cm9, but probably a bit too late

Even i worry a lot about the power button thingy. I use PGM nexus free version and it partially does the job. But for screen off i still have to use the power button.

umm i don't think there is a mod for such a particular and specific personal perference
There are tap to execute and similar app that make use of the Proximity sensor of the phone to wake up phone without having to press the power button.
Personally I only tried softpower.
Description
Turn screen OFF and turn screen ON without touch power button.
SoftPower will safe your physical power button by use Search button or notification to turn screen OFF(and lock) and use proximity sensor changing to turn screen ON.
Note:
-Proximity sensor on device is required for Turn ON function to work.
-To uninstall, do this first. Settings-> Locations & Security(or Security in ICS)-> Device Administrators then uncheck SoftPower.

try cm10 fxp150, u can easily lock your screen from notification bar
If you install cm10 I'd recommend enabling the navigation bar and setting the back button long press to make your phone sleep. It's wonderful to use!

If you have root, an alternative is the Xposed module KnockOff. It works well with 4.4.2. Double-tap status bar. It's even a quick way to turn off screen when you only momentarily want to check lockscreen.
With Gravitybox, I have set long press in the "multitasking button" to turn off the screen. Also I have set the volume keys to wake the device. You should try it!

You don't need root for gravity - it's fantastic.
I've set it so it turns off when it's lying down face up, face down, and in my pocket. I don't even need to press the button or any button at all to turn it back on, just using the motion of picking the phone up is enough. If you want to lay the phone down but not turn the screen off, swiping your finger across the proximity sensor gives it a "5/10/20 minute timeout" where it won't turn off.
For me it relieves the paranoia surrounding power buttons as I've had a few phones now where the power button eventually dies, which makes sense, we can be turning our phones on and off for what feels like a thousand times a day!

Ah, my bad. Thanks for correcting my misinformation! I think I probably got carried away on how amazing I find Gravity. :good:
Hi thanks for that. YES. I tame extra precaution about power button.
I use a great app called. Tap tap tap. Des what gravity screen does but simpler and less features. Via the proximity sensor. Thanks for he app though
Moto G owners ought to know about those apps as soon as possible, so they won't screw the power button up just as I did. Even taking extreme care about the way I pressed and avoiding as much as I could the button is now shaking and it is not fixed properly.
Nice tips!
Another one I've been using is the Proximity Actions app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=novum.inceptum.proximity
It works with the proximity sensor. You can define waving and holding actions. Eg. hold your finger 1s over the proximity sensor and then lock/unlock, or to wave X times to lock/unlock
The bad is
- it install some ads that show in homescreen at random time
- you have to uncheck a checkbox before uninstalling! Be careful

Except sometimes, I long press the power button, then I get a short vibration & several options regarding resetting or powering down my phone. Thanks for confirming the presence of the other features tho! I am glad to see that the power button functions to start the device, as well as turn the display on & off. I am certainly happy to discover that the power buttons function didn't change just because HTC located it somewhere other than where LG located it!
Seriously, I also have a N5 (with ZERO button issues, rock solid), but I much prefer the HTC button placement. No accidentally turning the device off while just trying to adjust the volume with only a left hand available at the time.

Yeah, I actually prefer the button being in the top. I never really liked the power button on the side.
My hands aren't big either, if anything they're smaller than an average guy.
It just takes a small shift to turn it off with one hand, just being careful you don't press the volume buttons. Which became easy after a couple days of use for me.
