I have a i747 phone which is unlocked and being used on the MetroPCS (T-mobile GSM) network. I have rooted the phone using saferoot and installed TWRP as a custom recovery. I have not flashed a custom rom as of yet and I am using build jss15j.i747ucuemjb (JB 4.3) that came with the phone when I purchased it used.
I have flashed mrRobinson-Ashaman.v3.02 debloat tool and opted for the less extreme course when prompted.
I have flashed dkp-tw43-20140426 dkp - d2att kernel so that I could overclock the cpu.
Issues:
The first issue I was having after doing the above is many apps were failing to function properly as they could not access the internal memory(e.g. dropbox, esfile explorer, titanium backup pro). I would receive the prompt eaccess permission denied when the apps would attempt to use either of the internal memory options. I know this problem is common to kitkat but not jellybean. I attempted the fixes suggested for kitkat roms to no avail. Flashing the AT&T Official 4.3 MJB seemed to fix the eaccess problem but it broke wifi. As its probably known here and what I have since learned is that the i747 phone does not fully utilize the T-mobile network making wifi a must until I switch to Aio.
The next issue I was having is with a few of my nandroid back ups. Every time before I tinker with the phone I make a nandroid back up so I have about four currently. After my first issue I decided to try the back up I made before flashing the dkp-tw43-20140426 dkp - d2att kernel to see if that would rectify my eaccess problem with out breaking wifi. After doing a full wipe in TWRP and restoring that nandroid I boot up the phone only to be presented with perpetual prompts of apps and service failures. I go back do a full wipe and restore my first nandroid that I made when I received the phone new. Effectively this is a factory, and fortunately this works. I have made back ups in titanium in addition to the nandroid so if the simplest solution is simply a custom rom I am receptive to trying it. I have interest in a custom rom but what is most important to me is stability, speed and the ability to overclock and so any suggestions for roms that fit these parameters would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for all your help

I installed the rom Dandroid 5.4 and every thing works as expected. I may try to flash the decimalman's dkp - d2att kernel again to see if I can get a bit more speed out of the device but all in all it works well. Still not sure what was the cause of my two issues with the rooted stock rom.

I've seen quite a few "flash back to stock, then flash AOSP" fixes to get your GPS working. All you have to do to really fix the GPS is:
1. Backup your stock ROM's EFS through your recovery. (Do NOT wipe prior to doing this.)
2. Wipe
3. Flash AOSP based ROM.
4. Restored your ROM's EFS through your recovery's advanced restore.
Done.

So, I am having a GPS issue that I've been unable to solve through any of the numerous method's posted around XDA (my primary source of all things android) and related sites. It could be a simple solution, but I've exhausted my very limited knowledge and am hoping you have some input or suggestion...
I'm on the LS970 and in an over-caffeinated moment, I fully wiped the stock ROM without a backup. I know that is totally stupid, and have been much more careful with my fingers since then. :silly: I have been unable to get a GPS lock on Spleef's Carbon 4.3 20131020 (or any previous), so tried to factory restore and TWRP flashed a ZV9 ODEX (failed install), ZV7 STOCK (failed install) and SPR-ZVB which flashed successfully but gave me FCs and reboots everytime I opened an app that would get a GPS lock. I have tried the FasterGPS, GPS Status and Toolbox, and edited my GPS.conf. Since I can't get back to factory, I need another way to get to a "factory-enough" for a GPS lock...
Any ideas? I think maybe there's a path/process to follow to be able to go from AOSP to stock that I'm not doing, but I have no idea what it is.
Fingers Crossed!
I was having the same issue with Bean Stalk then carbon also. using the app GPS essentials it would show 0 satellites in the sky even though GPS was enabled.
I flashed the Optimized ROM in the DEV section and this did bring back the GPS functionality.
just an FYI since your stock ROM is gone.

You have SAVED MY WORLD!! HUURAAAAYYYYY!!!!!! :highfive:
The OpTimized ROM was PERFECT in bringing back my GPS, it locked in seconds. It took me a few tries to get it active on Carbon4.3, so I'm going to give my "steps" for successful completion.
I FULL WIPED before flashing OpTimuS_V4.4 (ODEX) - that's Data, System, Dalvik and Cache. (Obvious? I first ran a full TWRP Backup of the system, data, boot)
Then I flashed, booted, and let it go through its process. It took its own "soft reboot" which I thought would turn "Bootloop" but it did NOT... rebooting to the "Semi Stock OpTimuS" perfectly. It did the "Activate" process on its own.
Then - I went to System Updates. PRL first, then Profile. Then the VITAL UPDATES were Google Maps and Play Services.
After this, I rebooted to let it reacquaint, and then installed FasterGPS, using it to clear the current aGPS. Next, installed FreeGee.
Opening the updated Google Maps, I IMMEDIATELY got the lock, but let it sit for 5 minutes. (reset "display time" to 5 minutes to keep track.)
Next - AFTER the GPS locking for 5 minutes, I did a backup of EFS with FreeGee. If you have PREVIOUS BACKUPS on the Internal Storage, they need to be replaced. This can be easily done with ES File Explorer, or any which allow root access. Go to the active (sdcard on LS970) FreeGee, copy the EFS settings, and replace those in the "/0" or Legacy FreeGee folder.
This may be "overkill" but I went back into Google Maps, got a Lock again, let it sit a few minutes and "tested" the navigation function.
While still in Maps, I powered down. Booting into Recovery (I use TWRP), I ran a RESTORE of my TWRP Backup, since the backups aren't "install" compatible. My fear was the "Restore" would override my updates, but when you run it, just "uncheck" EFS in the restore choices and you're :good:.
My LS970 booted up LOVELY, ran its normal boot process, and when I opened Google Maps .... ~*Aaaaaaaahhhhhh~* light from the Heavens! It locked FAST, and the Nav even worked!!
I have been trying to find this Fix for almost TWO MONTHS so I am on Cloud 9 right now!! Thank You @etownguy!!!
GPS locking issue
Hello all,
I am an intermediate novice at flashing, but Ive gained some knowledge over the recent years here and there. Heres the issue, I am running into the same issue as euphoric fuzion except I have exhausted all that I know. I rooted, unlocked bootloader and flashed my ls970 without creating an official Rom backup or backing up my EFS- I know, not bright of me. After using my new roms I realized that MY GPS isnt locking. So, Ive done everything from writing new NPS locations in gps.conf, attempting to go back to stock via LGNPST-Ive used the auto option, Flash tool and they dont seem to recognize my phone via download mode but the drivers are installed-pc recognizes. One flash tool actually recognizes my phone as another model. Ive tried to flash stock based Roms-one ins particular at no suceess-symlink failure. Attempted to flash ZVC stock based Rom with Firmware flash- the phone remains in bootloop from my previous ROM. In order to use the phone I have to reinstall CM11- my fav for now- but I cannot lock my GPS with out SPrints PRL update, or network update for my profile. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
Hi everyone, this is somewhat complicated and il try my best to describe what happened.
My device is a i747m (rogers).
I was running CM10.1 (running gapps-jb-20130812 and CWM recovery 6.0.4.3) for a long time, tried to update to 10.2.
(i messed up on 2 things.I don't think i cleared neither of the cache or data and also didn't have proper gapps which would be 20130813).
After installing 10.2 through recovery, it would just stay in the boot Cynogen booting logo.
i restarted into recovery, since my old CM10.1 zip was still there, i installed that instead, but same thing happened, it would just stay at booting logo.
I had made a nandroid back up from before all of this, and so i wiped data, dalvik cache, cache, formatted system, and i recovered into that, which was a stock 4.1.2 rooted (rogers).
However, nothing worked, only WiFi. I couldn't make any phone calls, send/receive messages, or get data.
I then used ODIN 3.07 to flash the new stock 4.3 rooted (rogers). WiFi worked as before, but i still couldn't make any phone calls, send/receive messages, or get data.
i then re-installed the latest recover 6.0.4.5, and installed paranoid android 4.4.2 and gapps for this version. But still nothing, so i went back to the stock 4.3 rooted.
4 months ago, when i made the nandroid back up, i also made an IMEI back up as well (i did not do a full imei/NV/EFS/IMSI/data backup) , i only had my IMEI backup, so i wrote using "NV items reader writer" the IMEI back onto my phone, and now i can recieve/send messages, and get phone calls and make phone calls. wifi also works.
But my data is stuck in Edge, its extremely slow, takes 10min to download a 15mb file.
so far:
-The APN settings are correct
-my IMEI number in settings menu, matches the one on the back of my phone.
-network mode is GSM/HSPA/LTE
-i have installed the latest modem for i747m through CWM recovery and also tried slightly older versions.
i am pretty much lost and i dont know what i should do.
-rogers has told me to use kies and perform backup and then recovery, apparently that will factory reset my phone.
-should i simply use kies to install the latest 4.3?
-does anyone have the imei/NV/EFS/IMSI/data files? or the full NV file?
-should i install CWM recovery and wipe everything that i can? and re-install stock rooted 4.3?
-should i use QPST to fix my IMEI? <-- dont know anything about this, noticed a few threads.
i have used these threads in all my rooting and so forth.

please someone help me out, I dont know how to fix this.
thank you for reading this long and complicated problem.
same problem, ive spent every minute working on it for a week
Ok bricked my Metro GS4 the first time I tried to root, did the un-root and it worked fine, except the wifi will not turn on, I installed TM 4.4.2.
I rooted it with towelroot so it is rooted, I have read that a factory reset worked for some people where their wifi was frosted out, but my question is,
1. Do I need to worry about that since I am wanting to install custom roms, is the wifi just a problem in the rom I used to flash it to, or something else that will be wrong in any rom I use?
2. If I do the factory reset, does this remove root access?

1. You should make sure everything works before flashing any ROMs. You should consider using Odin to return to complete stock, then check wifi before moving forward. Then never flash any stock based ROMs with later version OS than your modem and bootloader or you will again have wifi problems.
2. Factory Data reset does not remove root. It does remove all other user data and downloaded apps as well as things stored on internal storage so back everything up to a computer first.
You stated
"Then never flash any stock based ROMs with later version OS than your modem and bootloader or you will again have wifi problems."
I not sure if I understand, "stock based" I think I used a stock, out of the box, backup, for my un-bricking, that is a 4.4.2
How do I know if they are a later versions OS of my modem and bootloader? I see one here on XDA that is "Stock/Base" that is 4.4.4, but don't know if it is later OS or not.
Factory reset did not fix wifi, and I had backed up with Titanium, but once it restarted titanium cannot find the backup on SD card, so I guess I don't know how to do that either.
Got it going, flashed it to 4.4.4 NH7, and Titanium worked great, I did the backup and then copied them to the SD card, not sure why I can't save them straight to the SD card, but this way worked.
Got your wifi back?
Pp.
Yes got the wifi going
Hi folks. Admitted Noob here asking for help.
[backstory]
After many years resistance I finally decided to get a phone. Freedompop's free plan was enough to push me over the fence. Found a nice S3 (L710VPUDOH1) on ebay and bought it. Everything was fine...except the stock rom had so much crap in it I was about to have a seizure. Back in the day I had put CM on a nookcolor so I thought that was the way to go. I consulted with a friend who assured me that CM played nicely with freedompop so down the rabbit hole I went.
[the first sign of trouble]
Installing CM went fine. Odin. Heimdall. I installed the latest clockwork mod touch recovery (6.0.4.5). Then I installed the latest CM snapshot (cm-12.1-20151117-SNAPSHOT-YOG7DAO1K7-d2spr.zip) and the appropriate gapps. Worked great. Nice and fast, good configuration options, no bloat....but it couldn't connect up to the 3g/4g network. Freedompop worked as long as WiFi was on and would not otherwise. Crap. What's the point of a cell phone if I have to have a WiFi hotspot???
Some googling revealed that the APNs were wrong so I tried that route. I was able to get LTE working but never got 3G. I live out in the boonies, so 3G is kinda important. Also found that CM breaks Sprint's PRL auto update which doesn't seem too happy.
[^H^H^H^H^H]
So, I decided to go back to the factory ROM and see how FP worked as I dutifully made a backup before installing CM. Now the SHTF. When I restore from backup in CWM (followed by a factory wipe data and cache to avoid the boot loop) the ROM cannot connect to Sprint's network. Doesn't know its IEMI or much of anything. It does connect up to wifi, log into my google account, get my paid apps, etc....but still no phone.
I installed Kies and attempted to restore/upgrade firmware (non-emergency mode). Kies got to about 66% and said there was an unexpected error. I'm guessing it didn't like the custom recovery and just plain quit on me. Was worried that I'd made a brick but alas I could still get to download mode. </bullet dodged>
I would like to put the phone back to stock (including recovery) but I have no factory recovery image. Does anyone have a recovery image for L710VPUDOH1? Alternatively, is there any harm in flashing the full ND8 onto the phone even though it had OH1 running before? I seem to remember reading things about bricking phones when trying to downgrade....which is in effect what I would be doing.
Any other suggestions about how to get back to stock would be most appreciated.
TIA
You can flash nd8. Nj2 is newer though. I don't think anyone has captured the oh1 tar yet. The only thing you should not do is flash anything before nd8 (pre Knox) like mk3 or older. Which is jellybean anyways so....
Hope this helps.
Yes, thank you; that was exactly what I needed to know.
I have a working phone at the moment so stock is not necessary required. For others that may be interested I flashed in Wicked X 8.2. From there the phone once again knew its IMEI and I was able to carrier reset and get it activated with Freedom Pop.
New to the world of Custom ROMs. A week ago I installed CM 13 which took great courage on my part and wanted to share my experience, issues and discuss possible solutions.
My phone had the latest lollipop on it. And McCafee locked. The steps that worked for me where
1) Did a factory reset and bumped into mccafee.
2) Tried download mode but kill switch was enabled.
3) Rebooted the phone to face mccafee, tried 123465 pin which worked.
4) Disengaged McCafee but not before transferring ownership to my email.
5) Tried rooting didnt work with any method.
6) Rolled back to d software version stock lollipop.
7) Rooted with PurpleDrake
8) Replaced with CM recovery didnt work.
9) Replaced with TWRP and rebooted directly to recovery
10) Installed CM and gapps mini. Worked fine. Voila!
Issues:
1) No Custom recovery sticks, whenever I flash with a custom recovery like TWRP or Clockwork. I have to reboot into recovery immediately or the custom recovery is replaced by stock. It happens on every second reboot.
My concern is here if I get stuck into bootloop and dont have a custom recovery I might not have any other option than the stock ROM which does a full reset. How can make TWRP stick forever?
2) After installation of Custom ROM there have been random reboots, I suspect there is something here with phone app or voice. So far the reboots have been when I try to call using fb messenger, appear.in and phone app itself.
Is there a guide that tells me how to track this down?
Can I install a newer Nightly and hope this get fixed?
How can I retain my apps and data when installing a newer nightly? since all guides ask to wipe everything :S
I have a backup of system and data partitions, can I use that with other ROMs.
What ROMs have a better chance of fixing this issue?
Coudnt find Stock M for D850. Why arent those available?
Should an Official ROM be more reliable than CM for this?
3) Bad signal reception so far. It may be a generic g3 issue.
Can I hope that this issue be fixed with a different ROM or updates from Cynogen?
Someone said you may have to flash the radio partition. My question is where can I get a brief understanding of what partitions there are in android and which are risky. Which ones can be replaced, backedup and replaced back.
4) Whenever the phone reboots, it gets stuck into bootloop unless I remove the SIM card. Then I power off and install SIM Card and reboot and it boots fine.
I am already tracking CM changelog for something important. Cant post urls as of now :S
