[Q] hdmi problem on cm11 - 8.9" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I updated cm11 from cm10.2
When I used cm10.2, hdmi worked well.
But cm11, HWAcceleration doesn't work on mxplayer.
Every video plays in SW mode, and can't be changed to HW mode.
Especially, if I play a movie first and connect hdmi during playing,
HW mode works, but when I stop the movie, nothing is left on the TV screen.
Just black in TV screen whereas tablet screen is normal.
Is there anyone who has the same problem?

Could you tell me your tested version?

I'm using cm11 20140528 now.
Before cm11, hashcode's cm10.2 20131115 was installed.

i believe hashcode was working on some hdmi fixes recently, have you tried another player like vlc for android beta? VLC is my favorite media player to use on my pc so i tend to use it on my android devices too, i'm curious if its just a bug with mx on the kindle or not as i don't have a microhdmi cable. Feel free to try that and see how it goes if you want.

I tried VLC, but it does not seem to MX bug.
In sw mode, VLC works well but when I check hw mode,
VLC suddenly closed as soon as I touch the movie to see it.
It may be caused because hw acceleration does not work correctly, I guess.
I'm trying to find the reason whether it is due to cm11 or my kindle h/w problem.

I am not very sure about the kindled hardware decoding capabilities, I always assumed only certain formats could be decided and the ones that couldn't made crash but i think I'm wrong. Not positive though, i should ask abut this.

I updated to the newest cm11 nightly, and hdmi works well now.
It might be a temporary problem, I think.

Video Playback Freezes Cyanogenmod 7

I currently have been using cm-7.0.2.1
Ive tried using Meridian media player, Real, and the default player..
It seems to mostly happen on mp4 files..
I will start the video and after a second it will stop the video playback but the audio playback will continue
Are you running a different kernal? Videos work fine on my phone with cm7

I just upgraded to the current version of cyanogen... still having the same issue.. i think that wifi disconnects while using tunesync causing the video to corrupt.. but that is still odd because wouldnt the file just not play?
Speaking of the wifi is anyone having an issue where the WIFI will not stay connected?
Revision 3
I think my video playback may be a change with the codec that Revision 3 is using currently... is anyone else having a problem?

[Q] Selecting a HW or HW+ decoder when playing back videos causes black screen/hangup

Hello everyone, I remember playing videos without any sort of problem before turning my galaxy nexus in to the support service for a motherboard replacement (it wouldn't turn on no more).
When I got it back I noticed that I was having issues with playing youtube videos (sometimes the video frame would just stay back until the next reboot) and I am now having issues with playing any kind of video file with any video player (I've tried VLC, MX player, BS Player and DicePlayer). They all work if I select the S/W decoder but as soon as I switch to HW or HW+ decoding the video player I am using at that time hangs until OS asks me to kill/wait for the application after a while.
I've tried several kernels and different ROMs but nothing really changed. I've also tried to enable/disable the Force GPU rendering option in the dev settings. I am currently using AOSPA 3.15 with Trinity A3.
Anyone knows what's happening? Could this be happening due to faulty hardware?
Small update: I reverted to the 4.2.2 google stock rom after formatting my whole SD and the issue still persists even after this.
If it works with S/W what's the issue? Why force the hardware to play when it obviously can't?
It stutters, consumes much more battery, YouTube videos don't work and galaxy nexus phones are supposed to reproduce video by hw decoding.

By installing so many players i bet you installed codecs along with , that are not necessary. Fully flash to stock via Odin... If persists its hardware.

HTC media link HD (DG 300) not playing youtube

When I try to play a youtube video using the youtube app on the Medialink HD it always shows unable to play content, unsupported file format. After this the medialink often crashes. Does anyone know if this is a common issue?
I use it with a HTC one on stock 4.2.2 and the medialink is running firmware 5.19.100.1. Tried already different HDMI cables and a different TV.
I also recognizes that the medialink is showing artifacts on still images (for example in the gallery app). A reset of the HD medialink didn't work.
Any tips or other suggestions?
I have the same issue however it worked fine on my OneX

I'm facing the same issue that youtube app hd or any quality videos they stop in between after 3 - 4 mins of playback! Which so much sucks .
However I feel the issue is with the phone due to many changes and battery saving options in 4.2.2 (talking about htc one x) , so I turned all off . Like power saver, sleep mode (this made a good change), wifi optimization . After all this off, I played a YouTube app hd video and it played good and smooth for 10 mins but still then stopped as maybe my battery got too low or its just the problem that will happen as this media link is made poor with hardware or software, not being properly checked or it needs another update so it gets fine for YouTube too .
Glad I got this media link for free . As its so frustrating because the reason I wanted it got lost and all other in phone operations mostly works fine, but I wanted it mainly for YouTube long videos like some shows, etc enjoyment on big screen as it should work good as anyways it asks for wifi internet, but such a shame htc!

HDMI adapter to TV?

Hey guys
For you that are using this on your tv, which adapters are you using?
How well does it play 1080p HD mkv files over hdmi to your tv? I'm not sure how the resolution would work for this to a 1080p TV.
You can get a Samsung wired hdmi converter on ebay for about $10. Or the allshare wireless dongle for about $40 or $50. Keep in mind if you root the Allcast dongle will no longer work.

Two times no...
I use a rooted P605 and my Allcast Share Dongle works despite the system status Custom which did not work on my N8000.
I did yet find no wired adapter which works with the P605, either partial, intermittend or no display. And the Samsung store showd no official adapter.
Erstellt mit meinem Note 10.1 2014 LTE
This is the one I had bought previously for my Note 2, which also works on the G Note 14 as well....

Maybe the LTE version works...mine didn't I had to return and exchange it. Even flashing back to stock would not work after I tripped the flash counter

Has anyone tried playing 1080p movies via HDMI to the TV? How does it run? I'm wondering if the movies actually get played at 1080p?

I played 1080p game trailers and movie trailers using an HDMI connection. It plays whatever the source is. One thing to note though. Playing videos with any app other than the default video app does not fill the screen all the way. There will be borders on the sides and top/bottom. It's not horrendous but is noticeable. However if you play using the default video player this gets corrected somehow when being output to the tv.

Great! Just wondering, is there any lag at all when playing 1080p movies. I was watching some videos of the Nexus 10 doing it since its probably the most similar device to ours right now and the reviewer mentioned there is a bit of lag since it has to power the video on both screens. Unless there's a way to turn off the tablet and just let it use the TV as the screen.
Also does the default player support mkv? I don't have my note to test it out right now.
Just make sure to buy the 5 -> 11 pin MHL adapter if using a normal MHL adapter. Just like the Note 2, the standard 5 pin MHL adapter won't work.
Also, don't forget it has to be a powered MHL device.
I have to do the same thing for my GN2 on my Pioneer App Radio. Only I use an adapter.

For videos, you won't notice any lag since you're just watching the video. Not to mention, when using the stock video player app it detects that you're playing the video on a larger screen and shuts down the output on your tablet screen so it's only visible on your tv. For games though, you may perceive a little lag since you're actually controlling what happens on the screen.
I haven't tested playing mkv's on the stock video app on the tablet but I can confirm they play on my galaxy note II so they should work. The only thing is that the stock video app doesn't support all audio codecs so if your mkv file contains dts audio you'll probably run into issues as the stock app won't be able to decode.
Apps like Archos video player (along with the free codec pack) should work fine for playing everything.

The tablet screen stays on during hdmi out and if you turn off the screen it stops hdmi output. The reasoning is that when you turn the screen off you are turning off the digitizer, too. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to control the device during playback.

Fair enough. But if I want to have 2 hours of constant playback for a movie without having to pause or anything, is there any app that does turn off the screen while its playing other than the stock app? I don't want the same thing to be playing on 2 screens at once. The stock app was mentioned saying that it automatically does turn off the screen while playing back via HDMI, which is cool. Sadly it doesn't play the audio on some of my MKV files cause of the codec, but MX player does. I'm looking to replace my laptop with this if possible to connect to my TV to play movies, but it should hopefully work just as well as the laptop otherwise it isn't worth it. I wouldn't be connecting this to the TV for anything other than movies anyway.

There are a couple schools of thought. Unfortunately I do not know of any way to turn off the screen during playback. However, there are a couple of apps out there which turn off the backlight during HDMI playback. One of which I believe is called screen off which you can find on the Play Store. The other is called tasker which allows you to create a system trigger event task that will do X when Y happens. Some people have said they're able to have the backlight turn all the way down when HDMI out is detected.

Sorry, it doesn't turn the scrim off but it dims the screen quite a bit to where it's hard to tell it's on and does not actually show the video that's being played. I should've been more clear.

No apology needed. There are a lot of new members on the forums and they can be easily confused. I just thought it appropriate to clarify.

[Q] Preferred Build of XBMC for AFTV?

Hello, i just switched all my RPI's/OpenELEC combo boxes to the Amazon Fire TV. I was having issues using Gotham 13.1 stuttering during streaming, last night i installed SPMC (spmc-armeabi-v7a_12.4.2.apk) onto one of the boxes and its seems to be better. Will need to watch a few more things to make final judgement. What version is everyone running on there AFTV?
Should i download grade to the first original AFTV firmware then try again?
please advise.
Thanks

The official 13.1 build from XBMC doesn't work properly for me either. The volume cannot be adjusted, it remains at a fixed level regardless of how much it's reduced or raised
So I am looking for something better as well
Please report back with your findings!

Are the stutters you see the buffering or just frame skips? I see a lot of buffering but I assume it is the servers

I have been using 13.1 for weeks without the issue you are having. How do you have the video acceleration settings? If you dont have MediaCodec turned off, that may be causing it.

Recently I changed from my 2.4Ghz to 5Ghz wifi and the buffering issue is gone now. I do see very rare occasional frame skips, but it is very minor. It visually looks like it drops below to around 25 FPS for about half a second once in a while.
with 13.1 I have choppy playback when viewing xvid files with libstagefright or mediacodec enabled, regardless of software or hardware acceleration ticked. I also have to enable libstagefright for correct playback of anything greater than 720p or a lot of mkv files. (0:00 time/skip issue)
have not gone to helix 14.0 permanently, I tried that about a month ago but it seemed buggy to me.

Also my TV in my bedroom the Amazon FireTv is plugged right into the tv. as the other are plugged into soundbars. i noticed that the sound quality on the one that is plugged directly into the tv sounds bad... the audio sounds muffled almost, i messed around with the settings and can't make it wound correct. any idea?

For stuttering any add-on i use to streaming it stutters.
For sounds i have tried everything setting from 2.0 to 5.1 enabled passthrough or not etc. and any movie or show i play from any add-on. weather its 5.1 or 2.0 its sounds like crap. just on the box plugged directly into the tv...
didn't have either of these issues using the RPI and openelec setup. hoping it all gets fixed.
Thanks
