My Note has the issue where when paired to a bluetooth keyboard it will disconnect after about 5-10 seconds of not typing. Are there any custom ROMs that fix this problem?
Thanks,

No Bluetooth keyboards are officially supported by this device as yet, could use USB OTG cable to plug keyboard directly into tablet

I understand that Samsung is not supporting bluetooth keyboards since they want everyone to use the stylus. They probably never will. What I want to know is if someone who has experiencing the disconnect issue had it go away after a custom ROM was installed on their Note.

Hi Hackhound,
There are two workarounds:
-stream music to a Bluetooth headset while using the Keyboard. The constant music stream keeps the BT connection open. I've tested it and it works.
-install Bluetooth Keyboard Easyconnect. Follow the instructions. Don't loose faith. Play with it for some minutes. It took me five-ten minutes for the first time to get a proper setup. It works! And now I am able to use my keyboard! If I add External Keyboard Helper Pro with which I can remap my keyboard layout I can say that I have made my way to productivity heaven.
Oh I forgot to add that the latter solution works only with stock kernel on KitKat... Or at least I had problems with xluco v1 an haven't tested with v1.1. And I am on xKat v3.0 at the moment.
Cheers!

I hope this isnt a transient thing, but installing BK Easyconnect seems to have solved my BT keyboard disconnect. Bluetooth keyboard has disconnected just once during the past 2 hours of use, and that was during a 10 min idle period. No other"fix" had worked to keep my BT keyboards connectd up until now, and I have tried all of them mentioned on this forum and elsewhere (factory reset, set timeout to never, toggle onscreen keepboard switch, "Null keyboard" app, "bluetooth keepalive" app, remove sd card, and probably more things that I cant remember)! Major props to you and the developer of the app. I was about to give up on this otherwise wonderful tablet. I just hope its not a fluke....I'll keep this thread updated if things change. You might want to post your fix in the 14 page long Bluetooth keyboard disconnect thread here. Im sure others will appreciate it )
Im running hashcheck 4.4.2 ROM and using the Motorola keyboard with the built in cursor stick mouse. Both keyboard and mouse functions are working. No lag, no stutter, no constant disconnects every 5 seconds *** crossing fingers****

Hi sam2c,
I am glad that I could help You out but I have to confess that I was not the wise one. After many attempts I have found the solution by just Googling around with different keyword combinations... And on a foreign language google play comment there was this gem.
Anyway I'll post it on the BT KB thread.
Thanks,

Do you find that your keyboard disconnects a lot? When I'm using it with my mouse it tends to disconnect and un-pair an awful lot. So,thinking my keyboard was just a bit busted, I exchanged it for a different one. Aaaaand this one seems to do the same thing. Anyone have similar issues? I know tons of you are using the same configuration. I'm on the tiamat rom.
bring up my post
anyone.....
I don't think anybody has that specific combination. But maybe if you rephrased to Bluetooth mice as a general subject, you may get some answers.
at least 4 other users have commented and posted pictures of this specific combo in other threads.
Well maybe go for a direct approach and pm them?
I havnt had any issues... but i dont regularly use both of them at the same time. I mostly been using my XOOM by itself. Are you using a custom rom or kernel? Have you tried doing a factory reset?

yes, my keyboard disconnects constantly, and I have to go into settings to connect it again. I try pressing all the buttons, turning it on and off......doesn't help. My Microsoft bluetooth mouse doesn't disconnnect. I tried turning off the mouse and just using the keyboard, but still have the disconnects....the onscreen keyboard keeps popping up. I'm typing this now on the Moto keyboard.....it's a great size, and I can type really fast on it. When it's connected.
edit: Ok, I think it actually was the mouse (Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000)....it's been disconnected for a while, and the keyboard is working fine. So I have to find another mouse. It really was neat being able to use the mouse, but if I wanna type really fast, I gotta turn it off. I missed 3 eBay snipe bids because the keyboard wouldn't connect. LOL
maybe it's a mouse issue in general then? I have a different mouse than you and your symptoms sound exactly like mine. BUMP THAT, could you do some testing for us? Just use your mouse and keyboard together more often.

I was chatting on Facebook for a while using just the keyboard with the mouse turned off, and it was typing in all caps a lot and wouldn't backspace some of the time. I gave up and used the touch keyboard. I'm away on vacation, but when I go back home I have another of the same Moto keyboards. I'LLC have to try that. It was practically free with that 50% off, $50 off sale they had, so I have 2. Oh, nice...it auto corrected i'll to I'LLC. Nothing is working for me today! LOL

occasionally it'll go forever with no problems for me. Other time's it'll disconnect and give me issues within the first minute
Sync keyboard
Sync mouse
Do stuff
Try syncing the mouse first too, whatever
I tried both out and nothing... I was on facebook for about 15 - 20 minutes and I didnt have any issues. Im running BRD's 3.1 HC update not the tiamat rom. I can test again later and see if it acts up, very odd tho.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but this still seems to happen, regardless of the keyboard and device. I have a Nexus 7 with the Logitech keyboard, and the Orochi conflicts with it as well. It's a problem with Android in general.
For what it's worth, the Bluetooth Settings menu shows both the Orochi and the keyboard as keyboard devices, as in you can select a language/layout that the Orochi uses, even though it's just a mouse. Maybe that's why we're seeing the conflict.
So there's been a lot buzz lately about the bugs that are present in the latest build. Therefore, I'm going to maintain the thread to keep track of it all.

I'm only adding bugs OP that are confirmed by at least a couple users. If it's not in the OP, it's not official.
Current bug list in no particular order:
Lock screen takes a while to draw
GPS works but reports 0-2 satellites only, NMEA data stream seems to be incorrect, so parsing this data may be touchy in some apps
Face unlock doesn't work
Autobrightness is choppy and slow
Pictures from camera show up in the wrong orientation from how they were taken
Bluetooth for headsets does not work, but may work connecting to GPS, etc.
Audio in skype is messed up
Gallery picture editing
Sound delay in calls
Work in progress...
FIXED (latest build)
Music skip/stutter when screen is off
Tethering is broken - M3 Build - thanks budor
No audio in video recording
Data usage/tracking does not work in the settings menu
Keyboard crashes
Current news...
Bluetooth is still broken
New build has an updated kernel with ota support
They are closing in on the audio issues
Stay tuned for a fresh build when the new monthly is released
For the record: this is on CM10.1, on the Samsung Captivate Glide, using the recent 4.2.2 update dated 2/17/2013
- Bluetooth Headset profile doent work
- Audio in video recording not working
- Photosphere unavailable
- audio stutters if screen is turned off (seems to be a CPU sleeping issue)
- Something (i am suspecting Google+, even though i am not actively using it) is filling up my SD card with gigabytes of thumbnails, which i have to delete manually
- lockscreen takes too long to appear
- from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 the mount point of the external SD card changed again (so 'acast' cant find my downloaded podcasts). Not a bug per se, but a symlink would've been nice?
- auto-brightness is choppy and slow
- GPS usually get a lock in an okay-ish timeframe, but always reports that it's only locked to "0 / 2 satellites"
- face unlock doesnt work (hangs when opening the camera)
- orientation issues when taking photos: if i take a photo in landscape mode, it ends up in portrait mode in the gallery, and vice versa
Since i guess and hope many people will report bugs, and some of them will be not reproducable by others, we should have some mechanism to 'vote' or 'confirm' bugs, i guess?
All of the above...
Connecting to PC with USB, MTP mode does NOT work (it did work in Adam77root's last CM10.1 build ...)
Email - Any mail delivered into sub folders (Using Push MS Exchange) doesn't create a notification.... I miss a lot of email when sorting via rules on delivery. This is new in JB.
Some apps are deleted after reboot. (temporary fix is manually move to sdcard)
The phone connection will drop randomly and not come back until I reboot the phone. Note that I am using a Rogers (Canadian) model, if it has any relevance. Let me know how I can help you diagnose this bug.

Just thought that I would mention that I've noticed that the audio stutter is even more noticeable when the phone is plugged into something using a line in instead of headphones. I'm not sure if this is a issue specific to my device, but if I use a patch cord (audio cable, but w/o the extra contact for a remote) the music sometimes stops altogether, and rarely resumes. This happens whether the screen is on or off. Bluetooth audio stream however is completely fine. No stutter even if screen is off.

2nd post ... says Bluetooth headset profile doesn't work .. this means you can stream Audio to your car's stereo, but you can NOT use your headset... I'm going to assume it's the same accross all ROMs that you can HEAR the other person talk, but the microphone via bluetooth isn't enabled.... my other assumption is that it has to do with the sound driver issues of using skype etc. where when the microphone is activated, all other sound output becomes sloooow motion. -
These are assumptions based on an under educated hypothesis .. a guess.. a shot in the dark ... based on no fact .. and hence, could be completely entirely wrong
Here's a thought, though, why don't you do a nandroid backup in CWM one evening, download the CM10.1 and install it and play with it test bluetooth and some other things, report your findings and if bluetooth deosn't work, revert back to your backup... nothing lost and everything to gain PLUS you'll be helping out the community.

The reason it isn't in the dev section is because it isn't actually a dev thread. The dev section is more for an actual product, whereas this is more documentation for a product, meant to answer questions people might otherwise ask in the general section.

Yea. Sorry my bad. I had no service at that point. The app could not verify a network and assumed it was a tablet.
Thanks.
Okay. So basically I flash this firmware and before I proceed to use any of the apps I decide to update them. So while the outdated search app still had the hotwords feature on, I updated it. Thereafter, the app will close even before I could get to the setting menu. So the only way is to either use the older version or use the older version to turn off the hotwords feature and update. I know this is minor. Just thought I'd add this to a bugs thread.
And there are some speaker/microphone issues with google hangouts.
Anyone second this?

Tethering is broken, I didn't see it in the list. Even FoxFi doesn't work.
Hi there guys!
This is my first thread, there seems to have been a thread on every problem I've encountered until now..
I have a motorola bluetooth keyboard
and a samsung bluetooth mouse
The keyboard works amazingly well on its own on my note 2. However when I also connect the mouse it starts to lag and type like thissssss. It's so bad it makes the keyboard unusable as you spend more time correcting what you wrote.
If this was a case of normal interference, I'd call it bad luck and leave it there.. HOWEVER - I tested them both on my macbook pro and they work as intended together. Now this puzzles me greatly as I thought they were interfering with each other's frequency, so shouldn't that be independent of the device I'm using?
Since they can work together, I was wondering if anyone could help me out with any suggestions of what's going on so I can come to some kind of solution/fix?
Thanks, looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Any chance the cpu is underclocked (power saving mode in settings)?
from tapatalk (Galaxy Note 2)
Unfortunately it's not
Look for external keyboard helper in app store. Set delay settings to your liking. You will to have that set as your keyboard. Be aware that samsung keyboard tries to turn on depending on what Rom you ate running. I am somewhat disappointed in the bluetooth performance on my note 2. That is about all I am disappointed about.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Thank you so much! It worked like a charm! I actually already had the app installed, it was just set to no delay by default. I'm so glad I don't have to go out and replace my mouse
What exactly was it that disappointed you about the bluetooth performance?

On some of the ROM/kernels floating around I have had TERRIBLE bluetooth performance, voice wouldn't work to dial numbers over a bluetooth connection, but would work during a phone call, couldn't connect to more than one device without restarting the phone.
However Assassin Rom with the kernel that comes stock with it, that fixes all the problems I have had with bluetooth.

Oh man, I had no idea! It's been ok for what I've used it for, up until this problem, but now its fixed I'm pretty happy with it.
I just wished bluetooth used less battery.. or if the phone powered itself by creating energy :fingers-crossed: but thats probably only going to happen in 4.3
Also, try connecting to wifi using 5ghz (if you are on wifi). I have terrible problems when using 2.4ghz wifi and bluetooth together.

This solved my problem.
There's just not enough bandwidth available for 3 simultaneous devices connected to the same device on 2.4GHz band.
I have tried two different USB keyboards (Cherry evolution stream XT, Cherry G80-3000) but none of them seems to work.
Both keyboards are working when connected to a pc. The OUYA usb port recognizes my mouse. So I guess it has to be a software problem.
Anybody else encoutering similar problems or having an idea to solve this issue?
I didn't find a single thread where a corded USB keyboard didn't work. I have no other keyboard to test .

I have had problems in this area as well. For me pulling the power, plugging in the keyboard, and then putting the power back seems to work a lot of the time. Sometimes it is just a matter of doing it a bunch of time until the keyboard is finally recognized. To me, this issue speaks to the build quality and software quality of the Ouya in general. Stuff like this makes the Ouya pain in the a** for the masses.

What about using the power button to initiate a real shut down before attaching the keyboard.
It seems the OUYA is not built using parts from a single manufacturer and that has a lot to do with inconsistent performance.

I tried everything mentioned in this thread at least a few times with the two different keyboards with no effect.
I pulled the cord, plugged both keyboards in and turned it on. Powered it off with the hardware button and pluged the keyboard in. Searched the options for any signs of a keyboard that is connected but just not activated.
I also tried different builts (there was an auto update). None seems to work.
This box is a pain in the a%&. I seem to have a very *****y ouya. XBMC is not working quite well too.

No. I tried using a hub as a fix but it didn't help.
I'm absolutely clueless.
I guess installing a custom rom or a bootloader is no option without a working keyboard. The OUYA seems to be a complete waste of time and money so far. Only crap games, worst "store"/rom ever, loud fan, controller with input lag and XBMC not working properly. Unfortunately people seem to have recognized how bad this thing is, where I live the resell value is free falling.

I am at a loss as well. I'm not sure how attached you are to your current install on the OUYA but you could try to sideload the latest OTA. I am pretty sure you can do all that without a USB keyboard attached via ADB. You could also fastboot CWM and see if it is recognized then. Just a couple shot in the dark idea but as if a mouse works, the USB port must be working.
I borrowed a logitech keyboard from a friend and it's working like a charm.
The problem seems to be "cherry only".
That sucks. Now I have to buy a new keyboard for this crapcube since my friend needs his keyboard.
Thanks for the advices to everyone.
So on 4.3, I tried several Bluetooth keyboard but had the well known problem of the keyboard disconnecting after 3-4 seconds of inactivity.. Has anyone experienced an improvement of this on 4.4.2?

I use a bluetooth keyboard frequently during the day. I've tried several bluetooth keyboards. I've never had one disconnect yet. I have had them go into sleep mode after a few minutes and need to press a key to wake them up. But they've never disconnected on me. This was true in 4.3 and is the same for me in 4.4.2.
The well-discussed BT problem is h/w. Some folks who exchanged their N10.1-14's had the problem go away using the same peripherals. I'm a heavy BT user and haven't had an issue since October.
Yea I spoke to several Samsung reps and they kept saying its because of incompatible hardware but I know that's bs. I guess I'm SOL for now

I'm holding out for 4.4.2 helping. I bought a Nexus 7 (latest one) and a Perixx 806 keyboard. It worked great with 4.2.2. When the Nexus was upgraded to 4.3, it didn't work properly at all. Keyboard was unusable. When the 4.4 update came, it all worked perfectly again.
With the Note 10.1 2014, 4.3 keeps disconnecting every few seconds for me. After a few seconds it will reconnect and catch up, but sometimes it misses a few characters. Based on what I saw on the Nexus 7, I'm hoping 4.4.2 will fix it - but maybe I'm just an optimistic fool!

It has nothing to do with hardware. I have used my Rapoo e6100 succesfully on my Note 10.1 (2013 edition) on Official and semi-official firmware 4.1.2 for several months (used another noname keyboard before that).I just updated to 4.4.2 official firmware and the keyboard pairs and that is it.
So, the fix from Google still needs to come.
Still on jb ..had my tab since Dec ..never had a Bluetooth issue..

I'm on 4.4.2 and I have massive bluetooth keyboard issues. I'm using an Apple Wireless Keyboard which works fine on my PC at home, and I could have sworn worked fine when I first got the tablet... so I can't guarantee I haven't futzed with something, but all I've done so far is rooted and removed a few bloat apps, nothing too major.
Now, for whatever reason, I have lots of keystroke lag which produces a lot of missed characters if I type too fast. It's basically useless. I have no idea how to begin troubleshooting it either, so it's a frustrating issue.
For those having BT keybaord issues, install Bluetooth Keybaord EasyConnect app from the Play Store. It solved my BT keyboard problems. Nothing else has worked except this
