you cannot choose as they are not meant to be released like this. its by luck and i think the blue tint its better! screen looks brighter as i had my HTC one x screen replaced with a yellow unit and i didnt like it at all.
there is another thread talking about this so i guess this thread will be closed

Hi
I've bought yesterday my Desire and I've noticed that in the upper middle screen part there is a small yellowish backlight glow only seen on black background. Can You tell me if there should be one or I should take it back to the shop ? This is probably the new SLCD version. I don't know is this a flaw or all of the sceens have some little glow on the black.
Thanks in advance
yellowish backlight?
is it in a dot size?
have you try different background color (red, green, blue)?

It is some kind of LCD bleeding. It looks similar to the picture attached below.
Mine is just slightly visible compared to this photo (copied from androidforums.com) but still it's the same issue. I just wanted to confirm from a SLCD Desire user if this is a typical for those diplays, or if I should take it back to the shop.
Most LCD screens bleed light to some degree, but that looks totally unacceptable to me. I'd take it back.
EDIT: Oops, should have read the full post. Well that one above is really bad, any chance of getting a picture of yours?

Yeah, I finally managed to do some photos.
The second one is with other light source (a 20W lamp). The first and third are without any lamp, high iso photos, but the first one has added brigthness in Photoshop, and third is on default. Remember these photos are on full display brightness, just to show how the screen behaves on dark, black background.
cant u see if its slcd on the side of ur package?

It is a slcd because it doesn't say it's amoled on the back. I just wanted to know if all slcds in Desire have this problem. I don't want to take it back just to get another device that has the same problem or even worse.
Well that's definitely SLCD... OLED (like my phone) will be pitch black when it's on a black screen, as there is no backlight on them.
Yes that is definitely a flaw. I would definitely take it back. It's unlikely you'd get another one that bad.
I've found a film on YouTube:
So it's just probably the thing with all SLCD's. Still I love the phone and since I know that I won't get a AMOLED version I'll probably keep this and just have fun with it. Thank You all for Your replies
Thought I would make a separate thread for this.
I have 2 HTC One X in my possession, one with a great display but has every glitch you could moan about, and my second one seemed perfect only it has a Yellow tinted screen. But today when I was Booting up the Yellow screen One X, I saw that the colours change and the screen goes more yellow after a second, once powered up. The screen is still yellowish to boot before that, but much whiter than when it does boot. Why on earth is this happening? Is it loading a bad colour profile? Are the lights behind the screen yellow? Can anyone else with a Yellow screen confirm this? Can you see a colour change when booting up?
I tested my glitchy One X, and it does the same flicker at boot, but doesn't change the colours. This phone is so bad... I'm sending them back for a refund now. This is really the last straw. Wish there was an app to change the lighting behind the screen of phones...

I have the same problem. My screen has a yellow tint, and when I boot it up it's not yellow the first 2 seconds but then ik flickers and i becomens yellow.
My screen is very warm (reddish hue), but the whites are clear without any yellowing.
Can you please check if the Mirror app makes you look very red/pink? I've been begging users on another thread to check but no one replied to me. Thanks.
Yes, I look quite red on the front facing camera too. In daylight it looks much better.,
Just picked up an AT&T one x and I've owned an international one x for about a month. Immediately I noticed the colors were warmer/more yellow on the AT&T one x. Side by side, it almost makes the international one x screen look like super amoled on the whites (way too blue).
I put them at the same brightness, and the AT&T one x has noticeably better viewing angles. WAY better in fact. Also, looking at pictures I took with each phone, the AT&T one x has way more accurate/true to life colors.
Overall the warmer screen is far superior, which makes me wonder why so many people on this forum were worried that they have the yellow screen. Fact is, it's not really yellow, it's just that the other screen is WAY too cool/blue and not accurate at all as far as colors go.
Most people are used to cool (blue) colors on their screens - that's what most LCDs look like until you use a color profile. It's even worse on laptops.
I love my "warm" HOX screen, I'm unhappy just because it has a few yellow spots that don't seem to go away...
I agree and don't know if anyone noticed, the yellow screen has a cleaner pixel grid, you can't see the grid if you look close unlike the colder one
still both r still very impressive so no worries
Does the yellow go away? I've read elsewhere this is the case

I have the colder screen and never had any problem with viewing angles
My only complaint is that some yellows are going green
Though the solution is the app called ''screen adjuster'', just boost +5/+7 on red

bro, do you very faint glue "grain" effect when viewing pure white at an angle?
Nope!
Screen adjuster is excellent. I added + 6 to blue levels just to tone down the warmth, now the screen is perfect.
It's not too cool that whites have a blue look but not yellow either.

Anyway to check if mine is the warmer one or cooler one??
Hello,
I have a HTC One X, and I realized recently that my screen (the entire screen) was yellowish. I compare it with the X One of my friends, their screens is white (so white that looks like being blue).
Why do my colors are, overall, yellow rather than white?
I've done the updates, I have the original theme, and brightness at maximum.
Do you have the same problem as me?
Should I bring him back in the store?
I suggest you have it replaced immediately.
The original unit that was given to me had that yellowish tint, I think its a screen burn? or a factory defect.
Had the shop replaced it immediately.
Your screen should not be yellow. It definitely looks like the yellow spot issue but in my experience they do not go away. definitely get it replaced or send it to HTC for repair if they can't replace it.
Is it yellowish/yellow spots or just a little warm in tone?
If it's the latter then you have the better of the 2 screens available as colours are more accurate and the screen is brighter. As you say, your friends phone is too blue.
It can be deceiving as the clock widget for instance is not a true white so can through you off.
Best way to evaluate is display a true white blank image and you should see that it looks white and not blue (cold) or yellow (warm). I use Dead Pixel Tester which has a variety of colours you can display
i own a yellowish and a whiteish one , and surprise surprise.... the yellowish is a lot better than the other
Mine is also very yellowish, compared to my wife's sensation or to an amoled display. The colors look very ok to until i compare side by side..
I do not think it is a defect...
Guys! Don't forget to set brightness to same level when comparing. I noticed my white screen actually looks more yellowish than the warmer screen when on lowest brightness settings. However, at a higher brightness it definitely has a whiter white and it seems brighter.
I got the yellow-dot-issue yesterday :'( I have had the phone since release day and now blah, damn it! will contact HTC tonight and tell you what they say

Which one of those is the yellowish one?

This is not a defect. HTC One X screens are manufactured by several sources. Some come with a blueish/whiteish tint, others with a yellowish tint. I have had both units. I prefer the blueish/whiteish tint, but both screens are very good.

I also have the Yellowish Screen, I solved this problem long ago when I had my SGS2 as the Super Amoled Plus had a greenish tent with Screen Adjuster, A great app from the market, Just increase the blue to 7 or 9 and all the yellowish tent will disappear.

It's been that way since the Sensation. One display is made by Acer (cool) and the other by Sharp (warm). The XL uses Sony displays exclusively for some reason.
Here's the two different displays on the Sensation...
Yup don't worry too much. Not a problem. Even iPhone 4S'es screens are manufactured by different suppliers. My screen is the cooler one, but both have their advantages. My dad's iPhone 4S has the warmer screen, but colours look more vibrant. My One X has the cool screen, which is less vibrant in terms of colour, but more accurate.

I had a yellow bit at top of my screen, and took back to tesco as my contract was only. 11 days old.

Hello everyone ! I need your help, i should know if i have a problem with my screen ? When i compare my M9's screen with my M8's screen , I find that whites are yellow on the M9
Look (on the first image the M9 is on the left and to the right on the other image)
So do you think it's a material problem ?
I had the same exact issue with my m9 when comparing it with m8 colors are greenish and not as bright as m8, exchange my m9 once but the second one had the exact colors temperature and brightness I had to sell it and hold on to my m8 and see if the next batch is any better.

Hmm hard to tell from photos.. my M9s white calibrations seems to be pretty cold, rather going to blue than to yellow
I know, it 's what I read, that is why I wonder if I have a problem...
Mine is pretty white, maybe more to blue than yellow or red. On a full white background it looks much more white than my old M8, but it is all personal taste.
I doubt you have a real problem with your screen but if it's really annoying you maybe you could change it.
I had an Xperia Z3 and compared that to another Z3 and the colour temperature of mine was super blue but the other was more natural.
