I'm taking a road trip with 2 kids and want to use their Nexus 7's to share the screen between the 2 devices watching the same movie on each device. Here's the equipment I have available:
Seagate Wireless HD
Lenovo PC
1 Nexus 7 (2012)
1 Nexus 7 (2013)
VZW Jetpack w/ unlimited data
iPad4
What I was thinking is to go from the HD->PC->USB->OTG->Nexus. Does anyone know if I can stream video and audio from a PC via USB/OTG to 2 Nexus 7's at the same time via a USB Y cable from the PC? And if so what app should I use?
I would just attach them all to my VZW hotspot with something like Splahtop but I don't know if I'll have internet the entire way.
Sorry if this is confusing, it all makes sense to me...
Use allcast along with allcast receiver and then use MX player on the device that's sending the file. Not the most elegant solution but it should work.

And if you want to have the file on a PC instead of on one of the nexus 7's create a DLNA server on your PC using Divx then stream it to the 7's using the imediashare app.

What if I'm in an area with no service,, or very slow speeds? We are driving from Denver through to UT and AZ and I doubt I'll have cellular coverage the entire way.

You wont 't need internet access if you set up this before hand, all you'll need is a WiFi hotspot for all the devices to be connected too. As its streaming it locally and not through the internet.

Yea but they'd need headphones. Because I doubt you can start them at the same time.

So the WiFi hotspot from the Seagate HD will be enough to allow me to stream to 2 tablets?
I know there are lots of products out there but I'm having trouble with the mirroring aspect to 2 tablets. I really do need them to be in sync with one another.
I don't how how you're gonna get them to be in sync, don't even know if its possible.

I am wondering if there is an app to control our Android phone?
Like checking its status, missed calls, read SMS, battery status, etc.
From our Nexus 7....
Thanks

I'm not aware of one that does all of the above. I'm using DeskSMS with TabletSMS to read and reply to SMS. Very easy to set up and use.

Airdroid, but it requires your PC and phone be on the same network. Its browser based so might work from nexus 7

I'm using talkatone with google voice. Accomplishes a lot.
Still working on getting control of cell.
Well, it is obvious that there is no app like that.
Probably it's an idea for you developers to make it.
I don't really need to send SMS or make a call. I but just to see all the status, and check things.
AirDroid is nice if it works, I haven't tried it yet.

You can try our app, VMLite VNC Server, it allows you to view and fully control your phone from a pc, or from another device, using vnc viewer or a browser:

I've tried airDROID, neat little app.

I can confirm this works well, and with the Jump Desktop app you get full touch control.
I've attached a screenshot of my Nexus 7 connected to my HTC Sensation.
Is there a way to use VMLite or any app like that over Bluetooth? I'd like to be able to tell my phone to turn on tethering while it is still in my bag. I'd rather not get caught doing it during class, since it's like 10 detentions -.-
Ubuntu for Android.
i bought the app and it works great over wifi, but is there anyway to get it to work over bluetooth? i'd like to be able to control my nexus 7 from my galaxy nexus when on my commute.. for changing music tracks etc..

SwiftLegend and micks_address,
Since both of you ask about bluetooth, do you mean that you want the same remote view and control of the device as wifi connection? We will definitely look at this, and update the status here.

one option to try about bluetooth connection is to check whether your devices support bluetooth tethering, if so, you can set network connection between two devices similar to WIFI.
---------- Post added at 01:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:00 PM ----------
ok, i just tested it, there is no need to use bluetooth to access between android devices, w/o 3g, w/o WIFI. Basically what you need to do is to turn on a WIFI hotspot on one device, then start vmlite vnc server on this device, it will display an ip address.
On your another device, you need to change WIFI to connect to your other device's WIFI hotspot id, then you run a vnc viewer to connect. It works very well from our testing.
There is no 3rd party app needed, pretty much all android devices support wifi hotspot.
if you need more info, please post.

I am also thinking of adding a Record button to our vmlite vnc server, so you can record all of the mouse/keyboard events, and when you are in a hurry, you can simply push one button to accomplish recorded tasks, such as turn on wifi hotspot, etc.
not sure if this would help you during commute.
For SMS set up Google voice on your Nexus and ur nexus 7. ( works like a charm I can receive text and answer them from my nexus 7.
As for contyol I would like to hear more on this as I never have my phone to far away and on my commute home I have all my music on my phone and taking my phone out while i have my 7 out is to much.

I don't know anything about how any of this technology works, but that seems unnecessarily restrictive to me. As long as it can only physically play on the phone why should they care if you can stream it?

I'm confused. How can a service be down for an app that doesn't connect to Internet for it to work? Once installed it just uses you wifi connection, right? Shouldn't need to connect to any service. Or did you mean the service that provides the movies?

the service All Share is a samsung service connecting your different machines which is different than just using DLNA to play a video to your tv
Hi,
I am very happy with my Note II since two weeks, I never had such a perfect phone before.
There is an option called allShare cast, I read about it and it seems that this is some kind of DLNA stuff.
Since my TV is connected with my PC via HDMI by default, I don't want to buy the Samsung allShare device box, which is around 90 Euros.
Is there any program for Windows 7 that can emulate an allShare Device?
I already tried to connect it via DLNA and Windows Media Player, but without luck, the allShare Cast Assistant on the Note 2 is not able to find the DLNA Server.
It is really a cool feature, would love to play GTA III on my TV or Computer Monitor with my phone, or watch Videos, show images or what ever.
It would be also alright if I had to use another App, it just should transfer ("mirror") the screen of the phone without a big delay and of course 720p....
No one?
Try skifta app on the phone (from market)

Thanks for your reply.
I already downloaded this application, but it can only stream music/images/video but not games or other apps....
I am looking also for this, but I doubt there is one.
Mainly because I *bought and rented movies from the Video Hub (*with a free voucher I got), and I don't want to watch a movie on the small S3 screen.
The app mentioned above is AllShare Play, which does only dlna/upnp of the connected devices to share music/video/pics, not the VideoHub movies or the screen mirror...
You can install Foobar2000 for music sharing. It must work with AllShare.
Hi, as I am not 100% satisified with the amount of storage the new nexus 7 tablet provides (lack of SD card slot),I have been trying to watch movies from a USB through an OTG adapter. How can I watch the movies or what apps do I need in order to be able to watch them?
Thanks, Stuart McD
Get an USB OTG cable and Stickmount or Nexus Media Importer. Just plug and open one of the apps. (Stickmount doesn't work for me, I don't know why)

I know this is overkill for what you are trying to do but it may interest some. I got a Western Digital 2 terabyte Live network hard drive and put all of my movies and TV shows on it. It is ethernet only so I have it plugged into my router. They have an android app that let's you access it from anywhere you have Internet. You can stream videos from it or download them. You can also upload to it from any where. It works fantastic.
