Okay, so a little background first- I accidentally format the /factory folder due to which my phone lost the IMEI number and couldn't register itself on the network. I have got that problem fixed from a local shopkeeper, though not sure what he did. Now I have a working phone with stock jelly bean ROM but whenever I switch the ROM, the phone loses the IMEI again and I have to restore the backup which I took after getting the phone fixed. I am able to flash new kernels but not the ROM. Is there a particular folder/file which I should restore from the backup after flashing the new ROM which would keep the IMEI intact?

I lost my IMEI and baseband version when i tried loading the literom onto my phone. I tried restoring/repairing through the EFS Professional application but had no luck. I then tried flashing dman's rooted (UCLJ3) rom. The install went fine and when i booted there was No IMEI again. I tried pulling the battery and restarted again and voila it was all there all of a sudden . I have no idea how that happened but am really glad that i am able to use the phone.
See this link for the rom I flashed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994902
Oh and I've the At&t version and not the Rogers one.

So you didn't delete your /efs. It wouldn't magically appear again, deleted is deleted.
However, I had a similar case yesterday. I first run my phone and it told me to shutdown and insert SIM card. I inserted a SIM card without shutting down. After some time I realized I can't call. "About Phone" said IMEI is unknown. Restarting the phone didn't change it. But shutting down and removing the battery did. This is just my guess that this inserting a SIM card on-line was the cause of the problem. @tanmayk, maybe you did the same?

I know it can't magically reappear. And I am not entirely sure if the /efs folder was corrupted or the folder was deleted!!
I had tried flashing the liteRom when i got null/unknown(got both) IMEI errors. I tried flashing every other possible rom to get it back but it didn't help.
Even now when i try to flash the PAC-man nightlies I end up with Null IMEI and the only way I am able to get it back is going to Dman's rooted stock UCLJ3 rom.
If only I could get PAC-man nightlies running on the phone....

But did you do a clean install ? Or did you just freaked out and started flashing one ROM over the other without wiping anything ?

Wiped and did a clean install..tried dirty installs..but NOTHING has worked ! Just tried the most recent PAC build and i again have no IMEI :crying: :crying:
You won't have IMEI again without the files. Reflash stock rom, go to SSC and tell them you can't make calls.

Hi guys!
I got some serious wifi problems with my Ace 2! I really hope someone of you could help me to fix it.
I flashed the newest CyanogenMod with Android 4.3 and by that lost my Imei. This was no big deal because I made a backup of the efs folder, and could restore it successfully. But now my wifi won't work anymore. I can turn it on and my network is been found but when I connect simply nothing happens. This has to be due to the Imei restore, because before Wifi was fully functional. When I made the backup of the EFS Folder, there was a "wifi" Folder folder in it, which is now lost (not in the backup, on my device).
I already tried:
- full data wipe
- reset to factory state
- the App "FXR WiFi fix and rescue "
- run the Imei restore once again
but it didn't change anything
Now I run out of ideas... hope one of you guys knows something that might help.
Any help is appreciated
Ah, what I forget to mention my WLAN-Mac Address is 00:00:00:00:00:00 could this be the reason for my wifi issues?
Have you tried to flash Stock Rom via Odin?
Awesome, Stock ROM fixed it.
Silly me, thought that it wouldn't make any sense to flash an old version when the problem is not due to a bug of the new one.
Thank you very much for your kind help!
Much has been written about the loss of IMEI when flashing a ROM. But I am stumped by my experience in recent days.
I live in China and have a rooted Galaxy Note II. It is the China Mobile version (N7108), but I was able to root it, deknox it, and add google apps which are not normally part of the Chinese version. It worked fine for months. Then I got on a plane to the US and forgot to turn the phone off. It had the dreaded circle with the slash. When I entered *#06#, it gave null/null. I did not alter a thing on the flight.
I waited a day, rebooting it often in hopes that it would work. But it has not.
The only thing that fixes the problem is to flash the phone with the latest Samsung firmware. But, as soon as I follow this up with flashing Philz recovery which I had before, the IMEI is lost again. I can't figure out how flashing the recovery image is altering the EFS or IMEI. The challenge I have is that I don't know how to backup the EFS without custom recovery and root. But adding root and recovery loses the IMEI.
Any ideas???
I rooted my phone, flashed twrp as the recovery, then proceeded to flash cm12. Something went horribly wrong, and I had to flash back to factory stock to get it out of its boot loop. Now tho, the baseband is unknown and the imei is null/null. I do not have a nand backup of any sort. Is there a way I can recover the efs folder to make the phone a phone again instead of a small tablet? Wifi/BT still work just fine. Never had this happen with any android phone before. Thanks
Just Odin back to stock.....everything will be fine
THanks, had to flash it twice with odin for it come back to a working state. Dont know whats up with it still as mms still doesnt work even tho all my settings are correct. Off to the local cell office, but at least I got cm12 flashed, and the gps, sms, calls, cell data all work.
