I am on 4.1.2 Jelly bean rooted and unlocked with mako bootloader, my pc tells me that there is a new update for my phone. If I install it, is there any chance that I can brick my phone? Can somebody tell me what will happen if I update it? Please, thank you!

Yes, you gonna brick it. Don't do OTA if you're bootloader unlocked. You should flash the firmware update manually. I got my n7 bricked long time ago after updating ota.

hi there,
i've got a sweet r800i with unlocked bootloader and latest doomkernel, stock rom, .42 firmware.
I heard the new .62 build is rolling out, i wonder if i can update via pc companion or i risk to brick the phone.
Thanks in advance!
Don't update with a unlocked bootloader, It think you can flash .62, Although wait for someone to confirm this, although I can confirm it will brick your device if you update OTA and PC Companion/Update Service
thanks man, i remember reading about it somewhere and wanted confirmation about it. yeah i guess i'll flash it, but it will wipe data right? If so, then it's a good excuse to test in some custom roms
hi guys ihave an strange issue iwas using stock yakju 4.0.2 getting the update via ota
but after root and flash another rom idecide to come back to stock so via odin icame back to 4.0.1 thinking that iwill recieve the update directly ! but ididnt !! is there any problem or ?google stopped the ota update !!
From what I know, you have to have the bootloader locked. With it unlocked you won't receive the OTA. I maybe wrong though...
yes you are right but if you came back to 4.0.1 via odin the bootloader will automaticlly locked ! as i know and the unlock image which is below google type when i open the device dissapear so iguess that already locked
You can get the OTA with an unlocked boot loader but make sure you have the stock boot loader and radio as well as the ROM.

the problem is im not getting it dunno why so do you guys recmmend to unlock root the device and just flash any thing i want due to recovery !? and which is faster flash update due to recovery or getting ota updates ? from your experience
Did you flash a YAKJU image? Not everyone with the YAKJU** image have gotten the update, so be sure to check which one you have (should say in build.prop i believe or any system info app).
Also, why'd you use ODIN? Just use fastboot to flash the stock images Google provide
I think not everyone receive the OTA update from Google
Maybe 10 minutes after getting my Nexus i got the notification to update to 4.0.2. Mine was yakju out the box. Booted device up for the first time and my Nexus was in Japanese.
I always get the 4.0.2 OTA when i restore the phone to stock ITL41F.
I restored my phone today again and i dont recibe OTA update, seems to be disabled the OTA updates.
Maybe Google is changing something? who knows XD But i´m pretty sure that something happens with the OTA updates for yakju since yesterday.
PD; sorry about my english... XD
I'm still stuck on 4.0.1 on mine, and it came with yakju...so maybe the update still hasn't finished rolling out? Anyone have any other thoughts?

Stock bootloader? There is no other kind at the moment. And besides, it does not affect anything. Stock radio? Again, all radios available at the moment are stock. I think what you meant to say was the yakju radio. Although it is needed to install the OTA update, it will not affect you getting notification of an OTA update if you are using a radio that comes from a different stock build other than yakju.

Yes, I would recommend flashing the latest yakju image (if you don't mind wiping, as unlocking the bootloader will wipe your device). See link in my signature for how to flash to the latest yakju version.

No one knows the logic behind how updates are pushed out. Just flash the latest build, or update your current build (if your bootloader is unlocked). See link in my signature for how to update your build.
thank you guys especially efrant for your advise ijust rooted and unlocked my gnexus and flashed the last google image using tooklit so easy
I recibe the OTA update one hour ago, the problem with OTA updates is solved.

If you are running Stock ROM you should be getting the OTA. Be aware that you also have to have Stock Recovery in order to let the OTA install automatically. Rooting won't alone will not prevent the OTA but you will most probably loose the root and have to re-root.

Hi,
I have ZL 6506 with stock generic US 10.3.1.A.2.67 rooted using Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v33 option 0.
I tried upgrade to 10.4.B.0.569 OTA but it failed. When I don't root, the upgrade is successful.
Is anyone else having the same problem? Is there someone have upgrade to 10.4.B.0.569 OTA and kept root?
Thanks
Yes I couldn't OTA either.. didn't know why.
I guess it might be that.

Ok so it wasn't just me..
Yep I used OTA every update since 1st firmware. Retained root everytime.

I've also been doing an OTA up until now, but this update just appeared two days ago and I can't get it to apply. in the past I would just relock the bootloader and the OTA worked. Doesn't seem to this time.
Has anyone been able to install .569 via OTA from a rooted device? And did you retain root?
If so, did you do anything special to make it work?
Note I'm asking OTA, not flash.

So I got an update notice this morning for my tmo note 2. My phone is rooted but still on stock 4.3 rom. My question is how can I safely update my phone? I can't just update because im rooted right? I'm assuming that the update is the 4.4 update.

If you have root only it should just update. But if you have frozen any apps or modified system files the UPDATE WILL FAIL.. If you are on Custom Recovery The UPDATE WILL FAIL...
You will Loose root of course
Hope this helps..

Do a backup in titanium backup or whatever you use then unroot in supersu and then do a factory reset and it may update fine for you if not you will have to go to an older firmware and do the ota to what your on now and do the ota for kitkat

If you are able to update then please let us know what the update is. I would like to know if it is in fact the long awaited 4.4.2 update.

I haven't updated yet. I'm actually scared of bricking my phone. Im trying to find some step by step instruction for this. I don't have a titanium backup and I don't know how to use them
