I have an at&t e980 and im on straight talk updated to 4.4.2 kitkat. When i went to put my APN settings back in the APN Type was grayed out and i couldnt send MMS. I found the solution on the Androud Forum site but cant find the link it was under the g2 forum. Basically you have to be rooted and install SQLite Editor and go to data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases then click on telephony.db and then carriers. Delete all of the APNs but the one listed as LGE DEFAULT and then the Straight Talk one change the apn type line from "default" to "default, mms, supl" and then make everything else match what the other says as far as the values that you didnt input yourself then save and reboot and it will be changed and editable from then on. I dont know if anyone else will need this and my instuctions may not be clear, but i figured an answer is better then no answer. any questions just ask ill do what i can to help

Thanks for the info.. but a couple of things:
1) Should there be only two APNs left after deleting the AT&T APNs ? LGE Default AND Straight Talk only ?
2) You say "and then make everything else match what the other says" ... what are you referring to ? What other? LGE Default APNs should be the same as Straight Talks ?
Edit: Nevermind.. I've tried editing the APNs every which way but I came up empty.

Ok there should only be the two APNs left and all the values other then what you can already edit in the normal settings should match the lg APN if I can I'll go back and see what the values are and post them up here
First thanks to Firebourne for posting this fix.
i had this problem too. and followed what the op suggested and the apn type would just revert to "default, dun" and not be editable when done. after an hour of messing with it i was finally able to get it to work. Here is how; follow the op's instructions and change the type to "default, mms, supl" then also change the value usercreatesetting to "0" (no quotes, of course) that setting survived a reboot and mms is working correctly and the field is editable in the apn settings..
here are all of my settings as seen in sqlite editor

I tried and changed it about 12 times before I was able to change the AT&T APN and edited as StraightTalk. Eventually I was able to send MMS..even to an iphone friend.
It would seem to me that AT&T did something to this update that makes the phone only work properly on their network. Why else would you not be able to edit APN types? If it was a mistake then this is one big @#$%^ mistake and they need to get it fixed in a hurry.
Ok. So I said the hell with it and went ahead and rooted. Now im trying to do this but it's SOOOOO unclear. Someone needs to clear this up and give proper instructions. I did what the OP said to do, the settings stuck, but pics still wont go out. This is frustrating to say the least. Can someone please step in here and clarify this? Following the OP, I have only two apns( LG default and my straight talk) I edited the straight talk with the default, mms, supl line. What do I do with the LG default!!!!!!! People are talking about editing the AT&T apn but the OP says to " Delete all of the APNs but the one listed as LGE DEFAULT and then the Straight Talk one change the apn type line from "default" to "default, mms, supl". OK!
I have NO idea WTH you mean when you say "and then make everything else match what the other says as far as the values that you didnt input yourself". Ummm...What?
EDIT: Ok. I got it working. Don't "delete" anything. Just change two values in your Straight Talk APN. Change the "default" to "default, mms, supl" and "usercreatesetting" to 0. THAT"S IT! Again, DON"T delete anything!
Need some help here

When I change any thing my APN all vanish. and it just blank I can Add new APN but still can not Change APN Type. Thoughts on what I may be doing Wrong?
Okay I have figured out my problem I had flashed the 20 G version of 4. 4.2 KitKat and in so doing it was not letting me edit so I flashed back to 4.1 .2 did not root my phone set my APN settings and allowed the phone to update from the phone's software update once the phone was updated to the new 4.4.2 KitKat from at&t I rooted my phone and used to the SqLite editor to go in and change my settings now my picture messages works... I did not delete anything I only changed the two settings that were mentioned buy one of the commentators in the section

Solution for Android 4.4.2 (Build E98020G) on Straight Talk (AT&T LTE)
I tried every solution I could find on the web (and xdaDevelopers) for changing the APNs on my rooted LG Optimus G Pro E980, but at first, nothing worked. Eventually, I came across this solution and created a walkthrough (see my updated thread on the topic):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-g-pro/help/guide-set-straight-talk-apn-rooted-t2807611
Finally an answer WITHOUT ROOT
It is possible to change the APN type without SQLite or root. The guys at my work figured this out. It is kind of a tricky workaround, but this is tested and working on LG Optimus G Pro, G Flex, and G2 with the MMS issues.
1. Go to the APN Settings and reset them to default. After that you should only see the AT&T APN
2. With the SIM card in the phone open Mobile Networks (get to the screen where you can click on Access Point names.)
3. DO NOT POWER OFF THE PHONE FOR THIS PART! On that screen and with the phone still on, slide the SIM out. You should get a prompt asking to reset the phone. DO NOT RESET THE PHONE.
4. After the prompt click on Access Point Names. There should be no APNs here. If the AT&T APN is still here go back to step 1.
5. Now you need to create a new APN whit the SIM is removed. The APN should be as follows:
Name: Straight Talk MMS
apn: tfdata
user: (blank)
server: (blank)
password: (blank)
proxy: (blank)
port: (blank)
mmsproxy: 66.209.11.33
mmsport: 80
mmsc: http: // mms-tf. net - This is spaced for Junior User restrictions. Should be no spaces.
authtype:none
type: mms
THE APN TYPE SHOULD ONLY BE FOR MMS. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ELSE IN THE "TYPE" FIELD
6. Now with everything typed in DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING. If it is correct you can save this APN. Once it is saved there will still be no APNs on the APN page.
7. Pull the battery and put the SIM back in the phone.
8. Go back to the APN settings and DO NOT open the APN you just created or it will reset the entire process!!!!! If you did everything right the Straight Talk MMS APN you just made should not have the selection bubble. If you have a selection bubble on the Straight Talk MMS, go back to Step 1.
9. Make another new APN as Follows:
Name: Straight Talk
apn: tfdata
user: (blank)
server: (blank)
password: (blank)
proxy: (blank)
port: (blank)
mmsproxy: (blank)
mmsport: (blank)
mmsc: (blank)
Mcc: 310
Mnc : 410
type: default
10. Save this APN and select it. You should get LTE shortly after that.
That's it! If you want MMS without root this is the only other workaround I know of! This was tested on multiple Optimus G Pro, G Flex, and G2 and is working! Hope it Helps.

It is important that once you have entered all the info for the new APN, you must press the menu button and select save. Then one you are back to the previous screen, select the radio button next to your new APN to select it.
Yes, it worked on my LG Optimus G Pro
I agree that's one helluva clever workaround...tried it and got the custom MMS APN setting in as described, then got the selectable ST APN as described into the phone as well. The first couple of times I tried to send an MMS it was still stuck in the proverbial Sending loop going nowhere - but then it decided on try number three to go through...weiiiiiiiiiird indeed.
I may still end up rooting and changing the APN database...this is a deliberate attempt by AT&T to block carriers like Straight Talk from having MMS functionality...a very subversive workaround to the prospect of Congress passing new unlocking legislation. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when the managers, engineers and the lawyers discussed this little scheme. I have some lawyers of my own I'm gonna run this one by - yes I'm talking to you AT&T and whomever else was in on this little collusionary party - I hope LG didn't sign off on this little scheme...would be interesting to know if the KitKat updates anywhere else in the world disabled APN's in the same way. The Hill isn't going to like this much when they find out, nor The White House.
Thanks for the non-root suggestion, strange as it is. For those of you trying this one, it took several reboots before the MMS messages started working correctly...I was about to give up and re-root, and bingo, it worked. What a kluge just to try and block functionality...naughty naughty.

Thanks for posting this!!!
The woman has an LG G Pro on ST and hasn't been able to get picture messages for a while now until I came upon these instructions.
I didn't follow the instructions exactly, I had the mms apn and the defualt apn added before putting the sim card back in and it still worked.
Default option got picked up w/out me even having to change to it.
Again, thanks a bunch for posting this friend!!

Hey guys,
I did the fix last night but after a restart and a few hours later, the phone didn't get mms service again.
I checked the apn and the "mms" apn , the "type" got reset back to default instead of mms.
I know I followed the instructions a little differently my first time around but the second and third time I followed the instructions exactly but still got the same results after a few hours.
Anyone have any suggestions? Location service seems to be messing up too..
It also didn't work for me. I've tried a lot of settings and tricks and I just can't seem to crack it. I'm on a locked D800 (AT&T G2) with KitKat Modem, Mahdi ROM and a "new" Straight talk AT&T micro sim.

Hi to all,
I have an htc touch pro, I have been using XDAndroid for 8 months and been very happt about it. I frequently install latest versiones of initrd, rootfs, and kernel. The problem is the data connection was working well, but since about May i haven't been able to use my data connection because it doesnt connect. I currently have:
latest version of initrd
latest version of rootfs
kernel htc-msm-linux 20110615_174606
Gingerbread system.ext2
Here are my Mobile network settings:
Preferred network mode: GSM/ WCDMA preferred
System select: Automatic
APNs:
Name: Internet
APN: internet.movistar.ve
Proxy:
Port:
Username:
Password:
Server:
MMSC:
MMS proxy:
MMS port:
MCC: 734
MNC: 04
Authentication type: None
APN type: internet
Any help will be appreciated, thks
What setup did you have when it was working? Have you tried older kernel packages? Last time I used the Gingerbread(alpha) package, I was able to use my data connection, including wifi and this was with the latest kernel package. However, this was with a new data.img So, you might want to try to copy your data.img file before you try this, just in case creating a new data.img file doesn't solve your issue.
Hi, thanks for your reply,
I always try to use latest version of everything, if I see something works really bad, I rollback. I have tried most of the kernels with positive votes since May but data connection won't connect. A few minutes ago I tried the kernel from 2010/Oct/31. I also have created new data.img several times (because a problem with an old sdcard).
Could it be a bad configuration ? or some problem with my service provider (Movistar, Venezuela) ? In Windows Mobile the same data connection works OK.
Any thoughts ?

Triage it.
Figure out which combination works, then upgrade one piece at a time. So take the vanilla (nothing changed) FRX06 setup. Start with the kernel, try the absolute newest kernel. If that works, then move to rootfs. It's probably one of those two things. There was a new RIL that got implemented into the rootfs recently... perhaps it's not setup correctly for your configuration. Are you CDMA or GSM?
Either way, do your due diligence. I don't really have much to go off of based on your posts, you need to narrow down which change you made that breaks data for you. Then we can investigate further.
thanks for your response, I will try that when I have some free time
OP,
i have the same issues. the latest rootfs you can use is may 1:
http://files.xdandroid.com/rootfs/rootfs-20110501-5f3d39d.zip
the later ones don't work for me (raph800). however, i lose my data when i make/receive a phone call, so i am trying to sort that out too.
Hi again, my phone is GSM.
I installed the rootfs.img from may 1 and didn't work.
I installed the FRX06_Full_Bundle and didn't work either.

Uh... ok. So something that worked before doesn't work any more? Your data connection works in WinMo?
So you're saying you have everything from the FRX06 bundle and a correctly configured APN, and data doesn't connect?
I really need you to be more verbose. I can't help you if you're constantly vague in your response.
(Excuse my poor english)
OK sorry, I'll give more details.
In Windows Mobile 6.1, I configure data connection like this:
Start > Configuration > Connections > Connections > Modem > New >
Connection Name: movistar
Modem: Mobile phone line (GPRS, 3G)
Access point name: internet.movistar.ve
User: (empty)
Password: (empty)
Domain: (empty)
Then I go to Comm Manager > Data connection, and then the "Data connection" connects and I can use the internet.
Now for XDAndroid, I installed the FRX06_Full_Bundle from http://xdandroid.com/wiki/Version_FRX06 as you suggested.
I can make calls.
Wi-Fi works OK.
I go to Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks >
Data enabled: checked
Data roaming: checked
Access Point Names > New APN
Name: movistar
APN: internet.movistar.ve
Proxy: <Not set>
Port: <Not set>
Username: <Not set>
Password: <Not set>
Server: <Not set>
MMSC: <Not set>
MMS proxy: <Not set>
MMS port: <Not set>
MCC: 734
MNC: 04
Authentication type: None
APN type: internet
then I Save, and wait... but nothing happens, it doesn't connect. Am I missing something??
Hrm, seems right. Have you verified the MCC and MNC? When you hit save, do you see the APN appear in the APN's list? You should also see a 'radio button' that needs to be checked/highlighted in green. This makes the APN active.
Thanks for your patience, I found a partial solution.
Currently I am using:
Gingerbread system.ext2
Kernel htc-msm-linux @ 20110622_180615
rootfs rootfs-20110501-5f3d39d.zip
I modified the apn to this:
Name: Movistar VE
APN: internet.movistar.ve
Proxy: <Not set>

And part of the problem was that I completly forgot that the APN radio button did something different than clicking the APN name shame on me
So now when XDAndroid starts, it connects to the APN correctly, a green "E" icon appears on the notification bar and I can use the Internet.
The problem is when I make/receive a phone call, or connect to WiFi, the connection is lost, and later the reconnection fails, a white "E" icon appears, but i can't use the Internet. My guess is that it is related to the kernel, but I least now I know I have the APN configuration right again

Did you bother reading the GingerBread thread? That's a known issue, the data cxn is flaky in GB. With hyc's RIL you can cycle data and it'll come back pretty consistently.
Use FroYo if this is an issue, FRX06 does not have this bug.
I also looked thru the suggest threads but found no fix.(or did not recognize it)
I flashed to CM7.03-inc and radio 2.15.10.07.07. Neither the stock messaging or Handcent will send a picture. In looking I may need readjust the APN but really have no clue as to what is needed. I did install APN Manager.
My issue is I actually I know enough to really screw this phone up.
That's kind of an old CM7 build, I'd recommend flashing the latest nightly. Never had any MMS issues on the nightlies myself. And don't worry about losing all your apps and data, just wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing and see if your MMS works then.

try this please and report back
Change you APN settings manually, (a popular way is to use GoSMS).
MMSC: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
MMS proxy: leave empty
MMS port: 80
Fixed it.
FIXED
Was not the APN.
Google was my friend.
Found this. http://www.incredibleforum.com/foru...7-cant-send-pic-messages-simple-fix-here.html
Use root explorer, and make sure it is set to R/W mode (read/write). Navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db and delete that file, then restart your phone. After the restart, you should be able to send and receive MMS messages.

Used http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-anttek-filemanager-pxmFm.aspx
And can now send pictures. (will buy Root Explorer anyway)
My phone was not having service on my att network and thought it was my atomic rom or something and accidently deleted APN info. Can someone reply this message with correct settings. I looked something up but those were incorrect settings and could not received text with pics. Thanks.

I don't know about att settings, but if your settings worked when you flashed atomic rom, then just press option and "restore apn settings"

Easiest way to get them back is to install APN Tweakker:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tweakker&hl=en
And select AT&T USA. Make sure you are on wifi before running it. IT will setup and program the correct APN Settings for calls/data/ etc.
You can then delete the app when done and it will be saved. Also this app only works on GB so if you are on ICS/JB it wont work.:

Hi guys, Merry Christmas to everyone, how are you?
I just bought recently unlocked AT&T made in Korea LG optimus G pro e980
The kernel is of AT&T because when i start the phone i see the logo of AT&T mobile.
I am on Walmart Family mobile plan they are OVN of T-Mobile. I am on unlimited text, data, talk plan, it is included 2 GB of 3G data.
The android version of the phone is 4.1.2, baseband version APQ8064,MDM9X15m Kernel 3.4.0, build number JZO54K,software version E98010k
My APN settings are as follows, i tried the one from FAQ of family mobile too, but i still couldn't have 3G coverage.
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: epc.tmobile.com
Proxy: 216.155.165.50
Port: 8080
Username: (leave this blank)
Password: (leave this blank)
Server: (leave this blank)
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.50
MMS Port: 8080
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN Type: (leave this blank)
On the top corner of the screen above the network coverage stays the letter "E" and the internet is real slow!
I've seen they are many AT&T brand applications are installed on the device like: at&t drive mode, at&t Locker, at&t Navigator e.t.c.
Please guys what you would suggest me, i have to root it with different kernel, baseband and newer android version to get the 3G coverage or what? I would be thankful if you answer me with links or step by step what i have to do, because i am newbie in this area, i have experience in desktop pc, laptops, some software and hardware knowledge, i am mint in rooting
Try this!
Access hidden menu by typing 3845#*980# select in the WCDMA service menu-GSM/WCDMA band choose WCDMA. I'm not running stock ROM so I do not exactly know the step by step. Go to hidden menu and the rest you will figure out yourself.
I found the settings WCDMA but i didn't find anywhere to activate on it, maybe the previous owner has installed wrong kernel. I think so first i have to make to factory reset then that option it will appear?

Just click on WCDMA from drop down list. As I mentioned I'm not on stock ROM. You can otherwise install cm11 or slimkat to do the trick :good:
I tried to install CM 11, but most of the pre-steps i have to follow, i need to root the device. It says first you must root your phone for ROM manager to function But i don't have idea how to root it, i will back and read in the forum how to root.
some new came out
I already rooted as following steps and everything was fine.
When i go to follow the the steps before install CM11 this one:
"Now go back to ROM Manager main screen and tap on Reboot into Recovery. Confirm your action and soon your Android device boot into ClockworkMod recovery non-touch version".
Then the phone being rebooted but before that it shows "unfortunately com.lge.hiddenmenu has stopped" after the reboot it shows the green android logo toy with red warning triangle sign.
What you think guys, do i need to make factory reset before all these tasks, or there is another solution?
go to settings
more
mobile networks
and post a screenshot

I have an i317m Canadian Note 2 on the Rogers Wireless network.
I flashed the DN4_v2.2-LTE Rom onto the phone using the instrucions found here "[ROM][4.4.4]DN4_2.2(Ditto Note 4) for SGH-i317, i317M, T889, N7105 By the E-Team". I also flashed the newest PSN_AGNi_pureSTOCK-v4.4.7_N7105_4.4.x_AROMA kernel.
When switching the phone on all works well other than I am only able to get 3g and H+ networks. I have tried adding the ROGERS LTE network to the carrier list but it does not work. I also tried flashing the PSN_AGNi_pureSTOCK-v4.3.9_N7105_4.4.x_AROMA kernel; In case the version change may have affected it. Still only able to get 3g and H+ networks.
Been looking through XDA Developers forums for hours trying to solve this. Any ideas would be most appreciated

Hi bballengphd, Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I followed the guide off the Rogers Community website. As seen below. I cant post external links (the MMSC settings) so I added stars between every character.
Rogers Core APN Settings

Set up a New APN on Android OS
Open Applications/Apps. Select Settings. Select More Networks or More Settings or Wireless & Networks (varies depending on model). Select Mobile Networks. Select Access Point Names. Click the Menu key. Select New APN. Enter the following fields:
LTE devices
Name: Any name to identify the APN APN: ltemobile.apn MMSC: h*t*t*p*:*/*/*m*m*s*.*g*p*s*.*r*o*g*e*r*s*.*c*o*m* MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69 MMS Port: 80

Select Save. Ensure the new APN is selected from the Access Point Names screen.
I also tried removing the CORE APN (the non LTE) one just to see if the phone was auto switching away from the LTE network. I do not get a signal at all If I do that. MMS, texting and cellular calls are working fine.
Thanks

I tried to reload the newest rogers modem (for the i317m) and that didnt seem to help.
I also have another quick question. I have the newest version of TWRP installed. I am unable to reboot from TWRP by using the "shut down' or "restart" command. It just brings me back to TWRP.
If I reinstall the AGNI kernel and use its REBOOT command after installation the phone reboots normally. Should I redo the phone with the stock (but rooted) ROM/MODEM/Etc then try to reinstall DN4?
Ill give it a go when I have time later. Will post back to see if that fixes the problem.

YES! Got it working.
I started with using stock recovery mode to perform a factory wipe.
In order to make sure the lack of LTE wasnt something hardware related completely reflashed the i317m (Rogers) back to stock (4.4.1) everything. I did this using ODIN 1.03
I then used the auto root made for the i317m and flashed it with odin. Root was successful.
After the root I then installed RASHR through google play. Using RASHR I flashed TWRP Recovery version 2.8.5.0 . This solved the original problem with TWRP being stuck in a loop no matter what "restart" option I went to. Only way out of this originally was to flash the AGNI kernel every time.
With TWRP Recovery I flashed the DN4 LTE-V2.2 rom. When trying to boot this It just got stuck on a black screen. I took battery out and rebooted into TWRP recovery. I then flashed ANGI Pure Stock Kernel v4.3.9 (not 4.4.7). I restarted and the phone booted correctly. I was able to get WIFI and everything but LTE. I then updated the to DN4_2.2.6-LTE. The changed network icon to 4g. I tested the connection and it was still connecting to only HSPA+ Rogers towers.
The trick was after this. I tried many different settings for the Rogers LTE APN netowork. NONE of them would work under DN4_2.2-LTE. Finally, now running DN4_2.2.6-LTE I was able to find the exact APN settings. Pieces of this APN was taken from many different forums.
Here is the APN setup that is currently working for me:
Name: Rogers LTE
APN: ltemobile.apn
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: not set
Password: not set
Server: not set
MMSC: *h*t*t*p*:*/*/*m*m*s*.*g*p*r*s*.*r*o*g*e*r*s*.*c*o*m* REMOVE ASTERISKS. ONLY THERE AS I CANT POST EXTERNAL LINKS YET.
MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 720
Authentication Type: not set
APN Type: *
APN Protocol: IPv4
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4

Hope this works for anyone else needing it!
