Hello, I'm using PAC nightly from May 16, been using an alpha build from April 16 before that and I'm loving PAC! The only thing I can't seem to figure out is the headset volume. 70% of the time I use my phone is to listen to music. The overall volume level on PAC is a bit low for me, even with the safe listening volume setting disabled and volume maxed out I keep wishing for more. I'm on Galaxy S3 International if that matters, but I don't think it does - I've been using CM10 and 11 previously and some of their builds went way louder (I updated pretty much every week to the latest nightly and the max volume varied with every build). So I know it's not the hardware maximum volume that's keeping me down. I'd like to ask if there is an option / setting anywhere which would allow me to increase the maximum volume. It would have to be something deep down in the system I guess, I don't actually think there's a "Make louder" button hidden somewhere in the settings.. When I crank the preamp of my Poweramp the sound distorts, which to me suggests the sound levels in the software are okay, and then they get clamped by an audio driver / kernel / something like that.. I'm a linux user, so I'm comfy with shell & digging in system files, but I'm no Android expert, so I dunno where to start looking. Could anyone please help out?
I have the same issue while on calls ..guess they don't have solution for this

Maybe you all can try this out to verify. My GNex audio , playing music or .. anything really, sounds clipped and terrible at volume levels 15, 14, 13 (15 being the highest) It's worse there and gets better as it goes down. It's like something internally is causing the clipping to occur at the higher levels before it gets sent out to the headphones or the phone's back speaker. I use poweramp and i used it's pre-amp to maximum to get more volume out but still having the phone's media volume set to 11. it sounds good but it's a complete joke that in this day and age, this kind of issue should exist... it's not like audio players with headphones aren't mass produced that work just fine.
Volume+ doesn't do anything to affect this.
Hey gaetawoo.
Use Thema New Kernel Form Franciscofranco. Ist an amazing sound. My nexus sounds like a New phone
Greetings Form germany
sounds like there are a lot of issues with that kernel, specifically with the audio.
I have no issues with this Kernel. Batterylife is very good and the sound is amazing. Why dont you try the kernel. When the kernel is bad you can choose another.
I don't claim to be a pro-audiophile, but I have an exceptional interest in audio world. Try setting your Equalizer to "Classical" and adjust your taste from there. Try it and respond
this isn't an equilizer problem, it isn't a low volume problem, it is a distortion problem. with headphones on, audio is distorted at high volume levels.
My distortion happens at any volume level, to the point where it's 100% un-listenable.
Yeah with AOKP 27 and Franco.kernel I have the exact same issue. Nothing I have tried fixes it so far. Itll probably be fixed in a later franco nightly as it used to work fine for me.
So here is my story , 2 roms behind I was on 4.0.4 rooted which was kind of slow for , then I moved to KANG CM9 it was very fast and stable BUT I always listen to music on my phone either stream radio or MP3 the problem is once I make a call or open web brwoser anything... the audio goes down lets say audio is at full and I make a call with headset on on FULL VOLUME it's like 30% when it is how it's suppose to be...
how I get around this?
1) text msg notifcation fixes the VOLUME , I text myself so idont have to wait for other people to text back
2) fix #2 reebot phone with HEADSET on on the beggining
Kernel: franco kernel
rom: gummy nex 081
Note: when I first installed gummy nex it was not happening I think it might be due to franco kernel and volume hack? I am really clueless and no one wants to help me )

I would have to agree and say that Franco's volume hack is messing something up. Try a different kernel. It's been noted that the hack does some funky things sometimes... for example, back a few releases ago when it was first implemented, when I plugged in an audio jack into my phone, it would act as if I'm taking an audio jack in and out every 2 seconds. Newer releases have fixed this for me, but it still might be buggy for some users.
its fixed installed minimalistic kernel
what sucks is that I paid for the franco kernel app... oh well
Thanks!!
same thing was happening to me, fixed it by using the franco.kernel updater app, going to settings, selecting 'increase maximum sound volume' and entering 15. Bit of a weird bug, but if you wanted to hang on to the franco kernel there's your solution

Thanks for that! since I paid for the updater I guess I can always go back..
I can feel more smoothnes with minimalistic kernel , I am heavy texter especially in that area!
and wouldn't increasing the volume mess up quality? I always use 320 KBPS .mp3 though. Anyways thanks again

I don't know how his app reads it...
But "15" is stock volume level max.
Yea I'm pretty sure it doesn't actually increase the volume but entering default 15 ensures the max volume doesn't drop when a notification comes through. Worked for me anyway.

Hi guys.
Don't immediately think I did no searching for this because I've been through so many threads it's ridiculous and I can find nothing.
The other day I noticed my phone didn't ring when I got a phone call, I ensured it was on loud and checked all the volumes, but the error stayed.
I had recently flashed to LiquidSmooth ROM ICS. The latest one. Everything worked fine until this.
So I looked through the forum, found people with similar problems and downloaded the apps the were suggested, none of which worked.
I then realised that my problem was slightly different, because there actually was volume coming out of the speaker, but the only way you can head it is with your ear pressed firmly against the speaker. This is the same for anything at all, calls on speakerphone, ringtones, any form of media at all that has sound is played in a similar fashion. So today I tried to reflash back to the stock ROM, which didn't help either.
So guys, does anyone have any idea on how to fix this? I'm moving to the USA for three months as of Sunday, so a replacement really doesn't seem to be an option for me :/
Thanks in advance
You could always try a different Kernel, I think Franco's Kernel has an option to boost the volume of the speaker, maybe that would work for you? It wouldn't hurt to try
Would that be the equivalent of using Volume+? Because I'm obviously rooted and unlocked and tried Volume+ too to no avail.
Nope the Kernel has a lot more control than any software would. I also recommend AudioManager (One word if searching Play for it) and just make sure all of your individual volumes are maxed out before you flash Franco's Kernel.
Try flashing aokp build 38 and franco kernel nightly 175 and see how loud it is then.
Make sure you wipe data / cache / system / dalvik from recovery before switching to new roms.

hi guys,
I've got the same issue with the paranoid android rom.
I've tried to reflashed the rom many time while wiping cahe, dalvik cache and factory reset.
I haven't tried yet to flash a different kernel but I will do now ^^
Going to flash to AOKP right now and then flash Franco's kernel. Will post with info.
The kernel is what has the volume boost and you have to enable it.

Where do I enable the volume boost after I flash the kernal? I'm on Franco's now and I don't see anywhere to boost the volume.
Its not my hand, in order to hear anything at all the speaker has to be by my ear..

That only increases the volume a miniscule amount-i got more of an increase from volume+
yeah it didn't boost it much for me either, i was just telling you where it was.
IMO After updating to 4.0.4 the volume was horribly low. Got Volume+ the free one because the paid is just not worth it, Anything above +4 is just plain blah and your phone tends to sound like its underwater. Also anything above CM9 M4 and franco kernel 175+ has an epic increase to the volume (You may have to restart and don't forget to change from MusicFX to Volume+). I remember being in a meeting and had confidence that the volume wouldn't be THAT loud, Unfortunately the echo in the room + the embarrassment proved me wrong after franco NB r175. Was highly pleased I went and got the paid app and enabled the Audio Quality mod. Now the phone's bearable.

Even with Franco 178 and aokp build 38, volume+ paid I still can't hear anything unless my ear is touching the back of the phone. I can't hear phone calls at all

That's pretty weird, maybe it is just a hardware problem. Mine didn't increase substantially with franco kernel but it is still plenty loud for me to hear in almost all cases.

I don't know. I'm thinking that if I had access to an apk that could infinitely increase the volume I would be able to fix the problem because it does increase with volume+ but not to an audible volume
For what it's worth, I use GLaDOS kernel and have never used Franco. With the GLaDOS control app if I give the volume boost a +1 the headset becomes too loud at Max volume. Speaker has always been fine, maybe you got a lemon :/

How high can you put the volume on that then, how many numbers are there if you're at +1
This has happened to me more than once on various ROMs from CM9 to CM10.1 (I haven't used a stock ROM in a while): I'll be watching YouTube (or playing a Flash game - I'm not sure if it's restricted to Flash videos though) with the volume at the lowest setting or muted, and all of a sudden it blasts to full volume!
This is most likely to happen at night, when it's conveniently the most annoying. I hesitate to wear headphones now because I don't want to kill my ears - it seems louder than full volume, although that may just be because it's quiet otherwise. I'm using Volume+ at the moment, but from what I can tell the issue is still present without it. Unfortunately the jump is completely random, so pinpointing the cause hasn't been very easy.
Anyone else have this issue? Searching didn't turn up any similar-sounding threads, but I may not have used the right terms. I'd just like to know I'm not the only one...
While I'm no expert, i do have a few thoughts.
The first thing that came to mind was profiles. You mentioned that you've been using cm9/10, could you have set profiles with different volume settings to trigger at different hours of the day?
Also, are you certain you haven't accidentally held down any volume buttons? I've had multiple instances where i accidentally hold the volume button and my volume will go from 0 to 100% without showing or any of the volume levels in between.

Duh!
CM team put in code to recognize when you're watching pr0n and the volume does that to make you end your wicked ways. :good::laugh:
I was just listening to music with the phone on the floor and the volume jumped randomly halfway through the song, so it's definitely not an accidental button press.
I'm going to uninstall Volume+ and Voodoo sound (I wasn't using the latter, and the former was probably killing my poor speaker and my family's ears) and test it again, but I'm fairly certain the problem started before I installed either of them a while ago.
I'll check back if it happens again with no volume modification apps installed, which if my hunch is correct, should be fairly soon.
When I talked to someone on phone. No matter what headphones I use. They say I sound very quiet through them and can't hear me. Any fixes?
I am in the same boat with the DU 4.3 rom. Anyone find an answer to this, could another kernel help?
Same here.
Bump, I have the same problem, mic is low for some reason and people can't hear me very well. Turning on speaker phone seems to fix it for me though. odd
low mic volume
hello there. I experience the same issue on cm11 ( same with cm10 , slimkat ) I tried the CM utility for maxim in call volume but that didn't boost the microphone.
All people complain they can barely hear what I say.
What is there to be done? I:crying:
must mention Boeffla Sound Control app again did not help and had no problem with the microphone on the 4.3 stock ROM on my S3.
Currently using, fresh install:
CM: 11-20140706-nightly-i9300
Android: 4.4.4
Baseband:i9300XXUGNA8
Kernel: 3.0.64-cm-g5e96596

I don't know if this is a general fix but I managed to solve it for the above mentioned rom.
I installed the CM10.1-10.2 vol_tweak.apk ( but this only didn't fix it on its own) and after rebooting modified HEADSET, SPEAKER, BLUETOOTH, USB/DOCK in DSP MANAGER
HEADSET:
Compression is enabled, Efect strength moderate, bass boost enabled Equalizer is enabled with vocal booster, loudness compensation is strongest, headset virtual room effect is set to large room
SPEAKER:
bass boost is on, effect strength is moderate. equalize is enabled with vocal booster.
BLUETOOTH
compression is enabled, effect is slight, bass boost is enabled, with moderate effect strength, equalizer is enabled, with vocal booster
USB/DOCK
Compression is enabled, effect is moderate, bass boost is enabled, with extreme effect strength, equalizer is enabled, with vocal booster , loudness compensation is disabled, room is set to large room.
Hope it will work for everyone with the same issue I had. If there is somebody who can better explain what the modified setting please reply
This is a known bug with all cm based 4.2 and above Roms. There is no fix for it, if there us I have yet to see or hear of it.
Theres one simple trick you can do to get the volume normal.
During your phone call press volume down then back up (just one tic) it should make the call volume much louder. It works on all cm11 based Roms.

Up until now I had no problem with the volume using the settings mentioned above. There is no need to push the volume button up&down.
