[Q] flashin stock recovery for OTA Update - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I got an htc one m8 stock ROM rooted with S-ON and stock kernel.
Custom Recovery : TWRP
I want to get back my stock recovery for an OTA update, i found this thread but i don't know what stock recovery i have to flash and i want to know about this :
Q : Can i apply an official HTC OTA on my stock rooted rom
A : Yes but the system apps (carrier branded apps included) has to be 100% intact

Click to collapse
So i removed a carrier branded app but i have re-installed it. Does it count ?
m8 informations:
- Android 4.4.2
- Rom 1.54.163.5
(French "SFR Carrier" OTA Update 1.54.163.11)
Edit :
you can update with root access and an unlocked bootloader as long as the rom is fully stock.

Click to collapse
How ? when i apply update my phone reboot into custom recovery...
Edit 2 :
Ok i have the answer on the teamwin website.

ota update help

i got my update now to 4.1 but my one x is rooted can i update it normal or their any steps i want to do it like close bootloder or somthing
Keep the root, you will lose it automatically with the update, and no you do not need to.lock the bootloader !
You have to check if you have this :
Stock rom (out of the box/no modifications)
Stock kernel
Stock recovery
Then you are good to go !

How do I install the Rom lollipop

I've work Root to my phone M8
I installed formal Recovery, but have not succeeded in installing the update
Device status s-on
I think the bot Lauder is open because I tried to re-lock but did not Restart device
What should be done to install lollipop on the device
Bootloader being LOCKED or RELOCKED is not a requirement for OTA.
You need stock ROM, stock recovery, and that is all. Root is okay, and unlocked bootloader is okay (but LOCKED or RELOCKED will also work).
You sure LP has rolled out for your version of the M8? What version is it, and what region are you located?

No, you do not want to do that (install a 5.0 stock ROM with a current 4.4.4 setup). Reason being, your firmware will not be updated to Lollipop firmware.
What you want to do, is go to the stock backup thread, find the stock 4.4.4 ROM and stock recovery for your CID. Restore stock ROM and flash stock recovery, then OTA to 5.0. OTA will update your firmware. This is assuming your CID has rolled out Lollipop.

Hi Guys.
Today, the lollipop update for the desire 816 got released and so I want to go back to stock and install the OTA.
I rooted my phone using this method:

I wanted to install it, but get this error:
we have determined that your phone may be running a modified version of its system software.
For your protection, we cannot update your phone.
Please revert your phone to the official HTC system software to update your phone.
If you did not modify your system software or would like help reverting your system, please contact us via the support section at www.htc.com.
My question:
How do I get back to stock and be able to install the lollipo OTA update?
Thanks in advance.

HTC ONE M8 5.0.1- Failed To Flash Stock Recovery

Stock Recovery
Dear friends,
I have an HTC one M8
Android-5.0.1
Network Provider- Three Republic of Ireland
Bootloader status- Unlocked
S-ON
CID-H3G__001
I am trying to do an OTA-4.25.771.6
I was on TWRP Custom Recovery
I tried to reflash to stock recovery to do the OTA and unsuccessfully tried the below mentioned Stock recoveries from XDA developers.
stock+recovery+1.54.771.5+recovery.img
and
stock+recovery+1.12.771+recovery.img
I see a Red triangle with an exclamation mark when I try to run the Stock Recovery.
Can anybody suggest any solutions
Many Thanks

Those recoveries are way too old to work, it needs to match your current firmware (hboot, etc.), which sounds like Lollipop Android 5.0 (those are Kitkat Android 4.4.2 recoveries).
I assume you have the stock Lollipop ROM? Since you need the stock ROM (in addition to stock recovery) to OTA. And trying to install the recent Stagefright OTA?

You need to install 4.20.771.2 stock recovery or the one that from OTA 4.25.771.6.
And make sure you have a non-rooted stock 4.20.771.2 ROM running on your device

Dear CKP5
Many thanks for the reply.
Do I need to unroot my Device which is already on Stock Rom to do an OTA.I have'nt messed with any default apps that came with the device. I am already receiving the notifications to do an OTA on the device.
I could'nt find the stock recovery. Can you please give me a link to the same.
Regards
Definitely you need a non-rooted stock ROM.
If you unroot your ROM, most likely it won't work either as the root itself change some files.
Restore the system part only from a non-rooted backup to avoid problem. You can keep your data.
Install stock recovery then do OTA
Check link in my signature for all files that you need.
And FYI .. this OTA will upgrade your system to 5.0.2 but unfortunately the stagefright fix only fix 6/7 vulnerabilities

In order to upgrade to official MM....you need a stock recovery image...and a stock system image...
Search for...and flash your stock recovery....if that is the only thing you have changed....g

i just want to upgrade to android 6.
i know that i can flash custom roms with custom recovery. is it possible for me to download an stock system image and flash it with custom recovery the same way? i do not want to make everything back to its original. i want a rooted android 6 with custom recovery.
-----------------
i had some search. if i upgrade to stock android, then i will have to root my phone again and for that i have to flash a custom recover again. i searched and find out that android revolution custom ROM is a good choice for ones how wants to keep HTC Sense.
thank you for your support.
Check here for possible stock system images and recoveries...
You should be able to flash a stock system backup from this thread...to include recovery....then take your OTA....and flash TWRP afterwards....
Just make sure everything matches your carrier....cid/mid....so the outcome is favorable...g
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3132698
You'll quickly find, if you haven't already, that the latest Android Revolution HD (v20) requires you to have the latest firmware. Flashing it without it will throw your phone into a boot loop.

If he has removed his carrier's bloatware as well as the custom recovery, would he have to flash the system image also?
Or just flash the recovery?
I am asking as many AT&T users often root to remove AT&T bloatware, like I did. I used HTCDev.com to root, and my bootloader is unlocked.

Flashing a stock RUU will guarantee that the system and recovery are completely stock...
The OTA scans the device prior to update and will detect any software that isn't signed or official...
I'd RUU back to stock...then OTA will prompt....and won't get stuck trying to update the system partition...g
