[Q] S4 mini LTE flashed with KK then reverted to JB, internet connectivity limited - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I rooted my S4 Mini LTE. then I flashed it with KK version of Carbon Rom (not intended). I have then reflashed it to Carbon rom JB version. Everything seems to be working except the data connection. It works sometimes, but more often not. I have reflashed it to Pacman, available here, internet connectivity is still the same...
The fact that it sometimes works excludes a lot of things. APN is fine, I checked it and it wouldn't work at all otherwise. Could it be that I messed something up when I flashed it with KK rom?
What could I do to fix it?
I'll try unrooting it and returning to stock to see if it will fix it, but I have my doubts....
Do you have any suggestions? All I want is my data connections working reliably again, device rooted or not...
EDIT:
I have reverted my phone to stock. It's the same as it was when I got it, except for thw KNOX and warranty part. Since my warranty is void anyway, it's really a shame to use stock rom with all the crapware on it.
Do you have any ideas that would cause mobile data to work on stock, but not on any other rom?

Maybe your KK ROM was made from ROM with modem that was intended for other country. Often modems, intended for one country/region, work badly or don`t work in other countries due to differences in service providers' settings.

How can I check that? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

no connection to the internet? touchwiz based custom roms?

first thing, I've been flashing a number of rom's to my phone to find the right one. only a couple apparently actually have a connection to the data. the rest won't connect to the internet without a wifi connection. they will still make phone calls and send/receive text messages, but they will not connect to the internet using data. I don't know what's going on with it, honestly.
and the other thing, do touchwiz based custom roms exist for the i747? preferably ones that are either 4.3 or 4.4 based.
sorry, I'm still new to the whole thing, and I'm trying to get my phone in stable, working order. I have been searching a lot and trying a number of different things, though.
also, 4.3 is avaliable as an OTA upgrade...but as I understand it, if I do that, I'd never be able to downgrade past that, would I? would that mean I'd never be able to root my phone and install custom firmware again?

Now are you on a custum rom?
if yes, mabye that the custum rom that you flashed on your phone it was a beta version and that Mobile Data is not avaible on this rom.
Or mabye that mobile data is not enable on your phone.
Mabye that you jusy have any mb/gb left for your month.
as you Said : I'm still new to the whole thing, and I'm trying to get my phone in stable, working order. I have been searching a lot and trying a number of different things, though.
What i suggest you is first of all to keep your phone unrooted you are saying that you are trying to get your phone stable. And when your phone is rooted on a custum ROM it may be not stable.
Yes 4.3 is avaible throught the air and through Samsung KIES 3.
the new Samsung 4.3 Firmware has a new Bootloader.
After upgrading a bootloader you CANT revert it. You cant downgrade the bootloader after.
Also the new Android 4.3 from samsun has a new security that they named : KNOX
This new Security software that EVERYONE HATE make rooting, flashing a LOT harder.
If you update to 4.3 you WONT be able to downgrade to 4.2.1 or 4.1.1.
iF you try this will result to a Soft-Bricked Device.
On 4.3 you are still able to root the Galaxy s3 I747 but DONT try to downgrade through Odin YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE.
Hope that i help you. Any other question? Just ask!
Just to add to Killers post, one reason you may not be getting data is because you didn't follow instructions when installing the custom rom. For instance, with SRx3 rom, you have to flash a new modem and bootloader, not doing so generally leads to data issues. You may also want to familiarize with the proper apn settings and see if that's the culprit. Hope this helps.

Finding the right stock firmware

Hi,
I have a galaxy s4 mini gt-i9515 lte on the three network on the UK. I'm currently running cyanogenmod nightly but wish to flash back to stock for gear compatibility.
I'm having trouble working out the right stock rom.
The only one that matches my baseband is the Spain movistar rom.
Is that right? Will that have me all Spanish? What would happen of I flashed the rom for three? The baseband doesn't match, but I don't know if that's an issue?
Thanks.
I have the same as yourself and after looking on SAMMOBILE and other places I would be wondering what to use too. I'm not sure what the last update 3 have released in the UK but it looks like it might have been XXUAMF5 which you can download from here. I have a copy of it I downloaded last year as a go to stock ROM if I needed it. You can always use Kies to check for updates after.
Excellent, will give that a go. The movistar one appears to have "issues"
RIght, so the H3G one didn't work as I've got an unlocked phone from Carphone Whorehouse. So I had to go with the BTU I9515XXUBML4, and that "works" only my NFC won't turn on and my wireless is INCREDIBLY unstable, just stopping providing any network connections.
Is that likely to be a "Wrong Stock ROM" issue, generic Stock Rom Issue, or an "I've messed my phone up" issue?
Ran just fine on Cyanogenmod, and I had /some/ wifi issues on the original ROM, but not like this...

I doubt you have messed up the phone. There is a collection of ROMs here. Perhaps you need to flash a compatible kernel rather than the CM one. Sounds like you don't need a branded ROM or anything.

[Q] No cellular data after root, custom rom and recovery?

I received a used s3 which had stock 4.3 , modem/bootloader mjb, and knox. I rooted, removed knox and installed slim 4.4.4 rom, lean 4.4.4 kernel and latest philz. All running ok
including cell calls to/from, mms, apps and wifi data. Same modem/bootloader (MJB), IMEI available However cellular data will not connect and or transmit/receive using att, phone or lte APN.
Any help/thoughts appreciated?
Have you updated the bootloader and modem to kk?

My research suggested that the modem mjb and bootloader mjb did not have to be updated if cell calls and sms were working. Also I have an older S3 with modem mjb and bootloader mg2 and the same rom and kernel
that was working fine.
??
Can you manually add the APN? Have you tried other KK custom ROMs?

I just added an APN, tested and deleted it. I was holding off changing roms because it seems to me that this might be an ATT cell data network registration problem in which the choice of ROM is
irrelevant.
When you added the APN, were you able to connect to ATT?

Not for data, cell calls and sms work.
Are any APNs present in the phone? With every custom ROM I have installed on a phone (i747m, Atrix HD, Nexus 4, Galaxy Nexus, LG Optimus G), the APN was always automatically added.

Yes, there were att based apns labeled phone, att, lte, broadband, attactivate and two for smarttalk. I have tried the phone, lte and att apns and they all fail.
This is strange that it can't connect the ATT data network. Is ATT's data network functioning properly in your area? Are you able to try your sim in another phone?

I just tested the ATT data network with another sim and phone. AOK. Unable to easily test with the same sim due to a std/micro sim card mismatch. Will be able to
do that after 6p cdt today.
Weird, I would suggest creating a nandroid backup of your current ROM and try another ROM.
Do you have a link to the ROM you installed?

Here is a link to the main d2lte download page. I downloaded the 7.0 version as my searches showed some instability in later releases .

Will have to hold for now on another rom install due to external issues.
I don't see any assert lines in the ROM's updater-script file. I also noticed that it has been updated since Aug 5.

Not knowledgeable enough to understand assert impact. Also held off on later version due to thread discussion about instability.
The only thing left to do seems to be trying another ROM. If that doesn't solve the issue, it may be a defective sim card or possible hardware issue.

Have to go on hold for a while now.
Thanks for the efforts
Any other thoughts/help appreciated!!
If you get it solved, let us know how you did it.
Sorry I couldn't solve the problem for you.
Cheers
Resolved. By removal of lean kernel and extensive correction of ATT registration data. Thanks for the help

Bad/no reception on T999L, need help/suggestions

These issues started with the upgrade to latest T-Mobile 4.3 software pack at the end of November. Phone operated perfectly before then. After the update, the phone would periodically not receive/place calls/texts/use data. The issue kept worsening daily. It is not related to the SIM card or location, as the card has been replaced and tested in an alternate phone where it performs perfectly.
The T999L was then consequently rooted, KNOX flagged (it's already past warranty, Samsung wouldn't give a rat's ass about it), flashed to CM11 M12 and later a variety of modems was tried. Same issues persisted. Restored to stock 4.1.2, same issues. Did 3 updates OTA to get to latest 4.3, same issues.
Messed around with 4636 menu, 2263 menu, etc. Some changes had a temporary result but nothing permanent. Calls to the phone are redirected to voicemail. When placing a call, it takes 5-10 seconds to either place it or disconnect it (as it can't connect to the network, I guess?). The bars on the phone show 3-4 bars typically, but the phone is rarely able to acquire a data connection. Again, this is not the case with other phones the SIM is tried on.
Any suggestions? I've spent probably close to 10 hours researching this and trying everything out and I am absolutely stumped. This is my mom's phone and a replacement Alcatel OneTouch Fierce 2 just "doesn't look nice", so I'm getting a fair bit of *****ing for trying to help solve this, even though it's not my fault. Would appreciate some help before Christmas.

I'd say so. Used this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880987 and flashed the 4.3 basebands for T999L and T999N, total of 3. I'm thinking this is something to do with the 4.3 bootloader or basebands... any methods to go back to 4.1.2 without a brick?

If you have a T999L stick to the designated T999L modems and nothing else, or you may damage the device. If you have a 4.3 bootloader there is no way back. Have you tried to use ODIN to flash the latest NF4 firmware for your T999L and then do a factory reset using the stock recovery? I posted NF4's link in this post. Good luck.

Downloading right now, and will test. Pretty sure this is the firmware update after which this problem started occurring.
Any other ideas for what might be affecting this besides baseband? I have a feeling something else might be causing this. I'm not familiar with Samsung partitions though and what is flashed by OTA/Odin.

Well, OTA updates can sometimes fail, that's why I gave you the ODIN firmware link. It's the best help I can offer.

Strange signal/network behavior

hi!!
I have a HTC M8 dual sim, with a custom 7.1.2 ROM; I have not upgrade or install any other radio file than the stock.
It happens that when I get far away from my city, i lost all my signal. and in general it doesn't come back until I reboot the device (a soft restart works). and then I get signal again, but only for several minutes; then it all repeats.
from time to time it gets signal and stays like that, so I suspect that my device is not been able to get signal for the other operators of my country (here the cells are shared between the operators.. and I suppose that it works that way worldwide).
this is pretty annoying because I love to travel, and virtually do it without phone capability.
could it be that I have upgraded my phone that far from stock that the radio firmware got obsolete? or it may be a hardware problem?
tthanks ^^

I don't know what you mean that the radio "got obsolete". Receptions issues may be possible with a custom ROM (which ROM?). But it's impossible to say whether the ROM is the issue or not, unless you go back to the stock ROM, and see if the problem persists.

I meant that the part of the hardware firmware that manage the modem, may be too outdated respect of the rom . i am just taking a guest.
until yesterday i was runing Lineage OS 14.1; but it had a horrible issue that after a call it kept in "hanging" until I restarted. so, i went back to CM13.

The firmware is stuck on Marshmallow, since HTC doesn't support this phone with updates anymore. All the ROMs will work with Marshmallow firmware, since there is no other firmware for it to work with for this device.

Back to stock is probably your best bet, and see if the problem persists. Really not much else you can do, especially since I think Lineage or CM are the only custom ROMs for the dual sim?
If you do back to stock, and still have problem, it may be a hardware issue. Might be a network issue, as well.
