Thought I'd post this in case it helps anybody else who's on the fence about the NB4 modem. I was having random reboots and freezing on calls with Fenny's rom, and having read one of Fenny's responses that the NB4 modem might help, decided to take the plunge. The only reason I was holding back at all was because I can't find a download anywhere of the old modem to flash back to in case of problems.
Flashing was simple, I just followed the instructions, flashing it twice. It only takes seconds to flash.
Rebooting the phone was a bit flaky, but I've had that before coming out of Odin mode, it'll go to the gray then the green battery screens first, third time it rebooted into System.
I made a test call and it worked fine.
I should have run speed tests with the old modem, but I didn't. What prompted me to do so on the new one was that immediately on booting I noticed my signal bars were all lit, I've never seen a full signal at home before, so I ran a speed test. 92mbps down and 21mbps up. I thought at first I was smoking crack, but I ran it again and got a similar result. For laughs I ran it over Time Warner on wifi and got 16mbps and 2.85mbps.
Here are the download links for the modem I used and the backup firmware which I didn't need (I assume that will overwrite the new modem, but I don't know for sure, there appears to be very little information in the forum about flashing back, which leads me to think that flashing the NB4 modem is unlikely to cause any problems).

I've no regrets flashing the nb4 modem. Might as well have the latest modem.

Best modem in town. Won't leave home without it.
Your post will be of great help to others.

Don't think I trust the signal bars anymore after NB4. It's almost always full bars, but according to Network Signal Info, the db levels are still the same as the old modem(-106db). Don't see any speed difference.
What is a NB4 modem? Just a question.
It's the latest modem release, kitkat.

I am somewhat new to the epic scene, and had a few general questions that i have searched for over the forums here but get such a broad variety of answer im unsure of what is true and what is not.
Basically, my phone is set up with the following :
Firmware Version : 2.3.5
Baseband : S700.0.5S.EG22
Kernel : 2.6.35.7-g67f7514
Build : CleanGB.b13.EI22
I haven't updated to the latest CleanGB (which i plan on doing when i get home today)
But the problem is as follows:
My data connections suck..... I have replaced the phone 3 times (in less than a month) I have updated the PLS, changed the wimax settings with the MSL code, and had sprint flash it as well. But my connection speeds are so messed up.... I get 4-12 mb's Down, but only like .2-.8 up.... Can anyone recommend a GB build (if the updated one of CGB is better that's fine too) and kernel/modem to use in combo with each other that may help with this problem? It doesnt seem to matter what build i use, they all seem to have this issue.
Thanks alot!
Try updating your modem. You need to Odin the EC05 modem then flash the EC05toEI22.zip. If you think it is software related as opposed to Sprint network problems (i'd bet on that) then Odin in stock EC05 and test it there.

Thank you. I will try that when i get home as well.
Is the wimax and wireless running on the same thing? The reason i ask is becuase when i connect to a wireless network it will do 10+mb down and usually 5+ up.....

They all go through the modem. But 4G is dependent on Clearwire's network nearest you and wifi is dependent on your router switching speed and network speed.

Gotcha thanks!
So after having to flash my phone about 15 times.... i thought i had broken something, i flashed a stock rom, them CWM..... then black screen and wouldnt power up. So after messing with the phone itsself for abit i finally got it to cycle again. But now im Running ASC/Samurai with the ec05 to ei22 modem. Runs so much better, and my wimax upload has almost doubled.
Thanks again for the help.
I've had this phone about a month, and I can't have a phone call longer than 15 minutes without the call dropping. It has nothing to do with my location, because I have an Evo and older Epic in the same house and neither of them have a signal problem.
I have tried multiple PRLs and modems, including EL29, EK02, and many of the newer ones like FD19, FD24, FD26, FE07, etc.
Some of the newer modems were terrible, in that once I got loss of signal it would stay that way and I'd have to reboot. With EL29 and EK02, the loss of signal appears for only a few seconds, but when that occurs during a call the call drops.
seems like a weird issue, and looks like you have explored software related issues. One thing you could try is a network reset and force the phone to re-activate on the network, you will need your MSL though. If your device is rooted then you can get it. once you have your msl, go to the dial pad and do ## 72786#, it will ask you for your msl and should reset, this just clears out your programming information and should force the device to go through hands free activation. Not sure if it will help, but I don't think it could hurt.
Tried that also, same problem.
You stated that you've changed prls and modems. Have you tried any different roms?

I'm currently using Blazer 4.1 ROM.
One thing I've noticed, is if I turn off 3G data, then the Loss of Signal occurs a lot less often. Today I had a 40 minute call that didn't drop once I turned off 3G. Before I turned it off, I had 5 consecutive calls drop before they reached 20 minutes.
However, it's not a total fix, because I still get Loss of Signal from time to time with 3G off.
ever find a solution to this? this seemed to only appear when i went from a GB to a ICS rom.. but even after i flashed back to my GB rom/older modem, the problem is still there..
Ive had issues network related on mine. Certain roms well kernals mess with things that need left alone. Are you running one of the LOS kernals? I had constant issues with them. Try doing a full format then flash to stock unrooted eg30 then use ota up to ics. Then flash on. Ive fixed many issues with this method. IT seems when we flash flash flash it messes with it. But flashing back to true stock formated does seem to help

i'll try that, i do remember trying to flash back to stock ICS while trying to fix things and that did not help. i would have figured just restoring my old GB rom would fix things but seems the network issues were stuck.
Thanks
Hi all,
I'm having issues with very weak WIFI (unless I'm 2 feet from the router). My wifes note 2 (never been rooted) works completely fine. Side by side, she has full bars and I have a small green dot. I've tried many different roms and nothing helped. I used [ROM][RESTORE][5-12-13]Back to UNROOTED Stock with Auto Flash Count Reset, so I can bring it to Sprint. They tested it and said that there is nothing wrong and I couldn't use my insurance to get another phone.
Reading throught the forums, it seems like it's a software issue. I even tried copying a 4.1.1 Wifi folder and that didn't help. I thought of trying the LJC version of the back to unrooted stock to see if that helps.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this issue? Now my 3g/4g signal is very weak. Been downloading speedtest app for about 5 minutes.
Right now, I'm on Paranoid version 3.92/ TWRP recovery.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Randy
Forget it.
I found a stock image and was able to odin it to the phone. The phone went through multiple updates. Now my 3g/4g signal is alot better but my wifi is still weak. Now off to try to solve that problem.
Edit: I believe I have now tried everything.....I upped to 4.3....downgraded to 4.1.1 and wiped the the thing with every modem I could find.....call clarity is fine......it's the DL speeds......Please, if anyone has an idea? I'll try it.
running stock odexed 4.1.2 rooted.
I hadn't checked my download speeds in awhile, so I tried today. For some reason it starts at the 7Mbs and completely drops to a .43 etc. I used to get a good 16-18mbps.
I have reflashed to modem, rom, backups from several months, but the same thing. I thought it might be an ATT thing, or throttling, but the tech said no. I thought maybe just the tower by my home, work is 2 hours away. Tried at work, samething.....stumped. Check all the APN info, it's good as well. Wifi works fine....30-36mbps....... Is there a way to check if it's a hardware issue, other than bringing it in to a store?
I'm having strange data cut outs. The signal still says LTE, H+ or H with bars but web pages stop loading. I have to turn airplane mode on and off for data to come back. This is happening to me on both Danvdh and VirginROM and I'm running the NB4 radio. Anyone have any ideas on what's going on?
As a side note, I just got this GS4 replacement a few weeks ago. I installed DANVDH without even booting the phone into stock Touchwiz once. Everytime I turn the phone on it says on the top left corner in red letters KERNEL IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING and in yellow it says SET WARRANTY BIT: KERNEL
Got no idea what that means. Never saw it on my last GS4.

Thats the new Knox bootloader Pretty much telling you from startup that the kernel is not SEAndroid enforcing. Mainly needed for enterprise. Don't worrk about that. But i would try flashing modem again. Have you deleted anything from /system directory?

Would you happen to know where I can find the NB4 modem? I'm googling all over the place and can't find it for the 4.3 knox bootloader my phone has.
Just an FYI your not the only one experiencing this. I am too, BRONX NY. The data icon will be there saying i have connection but it wont connect. Airplane mode always does the trick but thats pretty annoying to do. I am not sure whats causing this but ive reflash NB4 modem before and I have also reflashed the entire NB4 tar.

You've already tripped KNOX so, from what I was told, its fine to flash the NB4 for the non-KNOX bootloader.
That being said, while my signal increased with the NB4 modem, I too am having the random drops :/
I'm somewhat tempted to return to stock, unroot, and take all the upgrades to get matching bootloaders, modems, etc., and then reroot and restore my ROM backup.

I am experiencing this issue as well.
I'm on bootloader and modem/baseband NB4.
I'm not getting random data drop-outs (maybe only occasionally), but there are spots around town that my signal becomes absolutely unuseable and I can't make phone calls or anything.
Airplane mode doesn't reset the connection properly either.
I'm using the M919 on AT&T, "phone" APN. I've tried the "pta" APN and it doesn't work any better, maybe a little worse.
Any help with this would be great.

Turns out this isn't happening to just us.
http://www.tmonews.com/2014/07/t-mobile-lte-network-stalling-or-dropping-out-youre-not-alone/
This doesn't seem applicable to my situation at least - I'm on the AT&T network.
I'm using the M919 unlocked and while at work (which sits RIGHT next to an AT&T tower) I'm getting easily -60 to -80 dbm signal. I can make calls and everything perfectly fine with no drop-outs on LTE.
I go home and suddenly its -98 to -116 and while my LTE data is still working and I receive texts/voicemail, I cannot make or receive calls. My wife, on an iPhone has solid signal and can make/receive phone calls.
It seems that either the M919 is not as strongly compatible with AT&T's frequencies or that something is wrong with the phone.
I've tested this on 100% stock NB4 4.4.2 with stock recovery/bootloader/modem/etc.
I've also tested this on numerous AOSP/GPE roms and same result.
I've tried MK2 modem and it doesn't help either.
I know this is isolated to the M919 because my previous phone was an HTC One M7 and it worked fine at home and at work, both stock and AOSP.
I'm almost to the point of trying to odin flash an i337 AT&T NB4 modem on this phone to see if there's any relief, but I'm still wary of bricking it.

I'm also running unlocked m919 with att network and having the same issues. Have you had any luck with a fix on this?
