Im looking for good battery life, something different/new. I was thinking sexy evo or desire rom

I really don't think you are going to find a big difference between ROMS in the context of battery life, train it, turn off the radios when you are not using them, turn off the update stuff, that's it, you find out differently please let us know.
Try VaelPak. Ive been runnin 2.2 with the HTC #11 Kernal and been easily makin it through a full day. i do turn off data connection when im not using it but its been super fast and havent had battery issues at all
I am running a complete stock latest updates on one of my Evo's and get well over 2 full days of battery life....50 hr average with moderate use. I can put a fully themed launcher pro ontop and still get 48 hrs. Hard to beat the latest software and launcher pro combo for the look I want and excellent battery life.

You said you were looking for good battery life and something new/different. I was basically giving you another option to explore. I have to sets of pics below. First set is a evo completly latest stock using launcher pro. Second set is completly latest stock without. These are just complete factory stock...hard to beat that battery life. And with launcher pro or ADW you can just theme the UI and whala good battery life and something new. Has enough speed for me overall...has excellant battery life...has the look I want the way I want. Unless there is something you just have to have in a cooked ROM that is not stock...why mess with a good thing already? Just an opinion and yes my other EVO is not stock... LOL
Wow that's amazing!! Setcpu? Juice ddefender?

I can only speak for myself but I've fallen in love with the MIUI ROM.It's fast, different, and battery is excellent with CM 7.6 snap kernel.I'd recommend it.Just my 2 cents...

That is straight up stock. The only thing I do is turn off all Hepatic feedback as a personal preference. Other than that straight stock with launchder pro. My other EVO I have tried every combination of ROM and Kernel there is and have not been as satisfied with battery life as stock kernel. I like the Virus senseless and the new stock kernel...of course I throw Launcher pro on top...LOL!!! Not trying to sell launcher PRO by no means but the current version is still based on 2.1 code but he is as of now in the process of writing code from scratch for his next version. I think the price will go up...unless you are in now...just a thought on a new UI in the works...
Minu is a very fast rom.....unfortunately 4g don't work, neither does hdmi. Blue tooth and sms are sketchy at best. When thoes issues are fixed....it may be the best rom out there. Right now I use vaelpak because I'm in a 4g area a lot. It's a great rom.and he is extremely quick to respond.

I love Launcher Pro Plus as Well!! I've been using Myn' warm 2.2 and just installing launcher pro, But I think there still a bit of htc junk running in the background. Whats the cleanest rom out there to use with mininum background to use with launcher pro?

From the launcher pro website he says he his writing the new version from scratch which I take to mean no htc at all...a totally new UI.

Ya that was minimum usage as a test and I would say it passed. The 48 hour one was more of a normal average usage for me...and still 2 days is pretty impressive for stock.

Not sure what problems he's having with launcherpro onEK02, it's running fine on mine but I could swear the options for themes had more than just a selection for what icons to use - which doesn't work. I can manually change them on the home screen though. Other than that everything is perfect.
I highly doubt development for launcherpro has stopped so the "just use go launcher" statement is a bit much. I've used it and love it but the general consensus is it drains the battery pretty quick. Other than that it's great but most people like to get that extra edge on battery life.
Development on LPP has been dead for almost a year. Users are pretty disappointed, and some flat out upset, judging by the hundreds of posts at the dev's last update feed (about gmail notifications being broken).
I have yet to make the jump because the paid version suits me so well, a bit better thsn GO/ADW.
With that said what problems are you experiencing with LPP and ek02? I'm running this without issues.
Launcher Pro has always worked well for me. I picked up ADW on the 10¢ sale, but haven't played with it much yet. But, my question is what problems everyone is having with Launcher Pro. I've used it for years across all my devices, including a Nook Color and it has always been great.
As title states...every Android I've had (and I've had a bunch), first thing I do is install Nova Launcher. I did that with my Note 2 immediately and kept it that way for a couple days without ever playing with touchwiz. However, a few days ago I figured I'd give TW a try and found that I actually prefer it to Nova! I was shocked, but pleased nonetheless. I find it (for the first time) every bit as smooth as Nova and I like the idea of Pagebuddy and the s pen utility icons that pop up in the notification tray. I have also found that the stock launcher seems to use less system resources than Nova...at least from what I can see by available ram.
Anyone else experience the above, or have I lost my mind?...haha

My exact same experience from nova prime to the default launcher. Having the S calendar widgets is a bonus too

i just hate tw icons.....and the placement of the app icon! they should allow us to at least chnage those childish looking icons!

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm still using Touchmywiz after a full two weeks now. that's amazing. Me changing themes all the time with Go Launcher or Nova got boring...every theme had at least one ICON or something I didn't like to sticking with stock launcher is kind of a nice. Especially since it's so smooth.

I totally agree. TW is finally nice to have for once. The only additional thing i would like to have is quick reply for text without having to use go sms or sms popup.
Count me in too. I love it as-is. Which is a bummer, as I enjoyed flashing all the time, but for now, no-more. I had to root it, but that's it.
I cant believe how much I like tw I just wish it had force close any thing. Miui built in feature. Any one know a solution?

I respect all of your opinions here. I hear what you guys are saying and understand it at a logical level. But, no. Just, no. Every skinned version of Android should be nuked and destroyed. Every carrier or OEM that tries to add to the Android experience should be forced to spend time for crimes against humanity.
As soon as mine gets here on Tuesday: Root and flash to the closest thing to AOSP.

I certainly have. I just don't own one yet. Had a day on the Verizon one yesterday. Used the T-Mobile for a few hours the day before. My personal AT&T one is coming in the mail. And my original Note is running CM10.
I have to agree, the TW launcher and Note 2 software are spot on. I love CM/AOSP but the stock rom is going to give CM/AOSP a run for the money. Now, if CM/AOSP can integrate the S-Pen features (note, memo, calendar and gestures) then will definitely be moving over, but for now stock (with root) is staying put. Well done Samsung!
Keeping in mind we are all sharing opinions and everyone is very velcome to voice there own. Mine is a torn one. Im very aware of the sweetness custom launchers and roms offer. My conflict is the TW launcher has so much proprietary and necessary fuction in direct relation to the phones core features I feel I woild be missing out on some potential with anything else loaded. I have been useing a modified TW launcher since day one and feel its the best experience. Considering all I have done is removed all bloat and added all the features everyone else has. Then wave around the middle finger to whomever is responsible for ATT borking it in the first place.
As its been mentioned before. If a CM or other shows up with all the TW apps and SPen compatible I would dive right in. Considering Samsung had a good lockdown on anything document related to the chipset I dont see that hapening anytime soon. The CM team has already stated they are not happy about samsungs lockdown and have suggested they might drop it all together to focus on other phones. :banghead:

Wow. First I've seen of CM thinking of dropping support. I might just return the Note and not even open it then. Where is the best place to go for CM news?
Stock was great and all, but this is the first phone i actually ran a different launcher on it instead of stock. I was just way too annoyed about the icon size and the space between them. Got nova launcher to fix that.

Says the brainwashed "AOSP OR NOTHING IT PWNZ0RZ" Nazi. Seriously of you're gonna load CM and ultimately kill one of the 3 main selling points (spen) why the hell would you even consider the note 2? Seems like the Droid DNA, where running CM/AOSP wouldn't cost you a single feature, would be a MUCH better choice for you.
As for CM: drop the Note 2. I don't care as ill never use it. All CM does to the note 2 is remove features. Want a "stock" look? Get apex or Nova launcher. Looks like CM and still gives you full spen support.
The note 2 is *****ing fast. It has killer battery life. Those were two main selling points of flashing cm/aosp. What do you gain by flashing cm/aosp? You lose features and can almost exactly replicate the look via a launcher. Its simply not needed on the note 2.

You lost me when you wrote the words “feature" and “S-Pen". I'm also really not keen on being compared to a Nazi.
Obviously, this can get into another pointless forum thread where we waste time and effort and energy posting back and forth. The OP asked a question and I answered with my opinion. You are certainly entitled to yours. And good for you, I'm glad it works for you. I'll move along.

The main reason I flashed a ROM was multi-view. Once the AT&T version gets the multi-view I will probably jump to a rooted stock ROM. The other thing I would miss on stock is the ability to choose the notification toggles.
I am running Nova just because I like a tighter icon layout. Right now I'm on 5x8 (including the dock). Samsung loves adding in little features, I wonder why choosing more layouts wasn't one of the things they added to such a large phone.
I loved AOKP on the S II. Sorely missed a stable build with decent battery life on the One X. But, the Note is a wholly different stock experience.
I chose the Note for the TouchWiz stuff and S-Pen. It really isn't that much bigger than the S III (my coworkers S III + case is bigger than my naked Note). I knew I wanted stuff like smart stay and smart alert. All the stuff I would lose on AOSP bases. Even multi view is coming to TouchWiz JB update to the S II. Samsung has this software down, really brought their A-Game. If I stretch I can only think of two things I would have wanted stock: more freedom in row/column in the launcher, and ability to select and order the notification toggles. Nothing like the laundry list I can come up with about Sense 4+.

Edit: never mind I got it working on Nexus 7
Nice launcher, but it needs a bit more development.
This is amazing. Just downloaded it and it runs beautifully and love how it comes pre set up.
Rather confusing launcher, I think I will try it out again and try to get the Chrome theme on it, but honestly wasn't impressed.
This is not just another launcher. A completely new launcher.
Congrats guys, very innovative. More innovative than apple and Samsung all together
Gotcha, now after watching the tutorial video I see the potential this launcher has. Great work!
Just a very very good launcher, I'm impressed !
Buy it's very annoying to have to download a lot of gadgets for it to be perfect.
And some french traduction of the main app and of the widget are awful, that makes the application hard to configure.

second thought: after a couple of days using this launcher and paying close attention to the battery usage, I have to say that it does not drain as much as i thought. I guess it depends on what homepack you download/use.
This launcher really makes my phone a lot better looking, with very little time and energy. And the customization freedom is huge!
I have now officially uninstalled Go Launcher.

Its alot closer to SSL Launcher but in a clean more user friendly interface. Can't wait for it to be stable now. I put the Chrome theme on it that was shared earlier and its sick! Trying to replicate the Chrome theme on other launchers like Apex and Nova using Multi-Live Wallpaper and its becoming even more tedious. This makes things alot easier when creating a theme for mycolorscreen.
Corrupt colors and textures.. I was seeing alpha channel instead with some textures.
Beautiful and innovative home screen, high battery+ram usage, boring app drawner

Is it really worth flashing a custom rom? In terms of speed, features and batt life?

for me i was on latest mg1 on and it has worst battery life and doesnot have some tweaks i want like sound controls, ignore unstable charging etc,so i decided to switch to wannamlite 3.9 and i thoroughly enjoy it,it has noticeably better smoothness and battery,i tried various custom roms but i always come back to wannamlite
I had Nexus 4 and I have tried many custom roms,
Eventually there isn't a big difference in your day to day use, now and then you can find a few cool feature - but nothing you can't live without.
For me, the main attraction in custom roms is having latest Android version.
I would recommend you stay put, after a few modification like canceling animation and launchers - you will have a great android experience with Stock note 2.
I prefer Samsung's tweaks with the SPen and multitasking. I tried some other ROMs on other devices, but on the Note 2, I prefer a rooted phone running the stock ROM.

We don't, imo, have a great selection of roms for our phone and I dont think any rom will be as stable as stock.
Root is pretty important but, unlike other phones I've had, I don't think custom roms are as necessary.

For me its a big YES..customization, tweaks, root apps are boon for Android users!
I love using phone in 240dpi..moreover 240dpi looks awesome for our giant note 2 screen.
Secondly, access to root apps like titanium backup , supersu, root toolbox and more..
Third-rid of all bloatware
There are alot to be mentioned..its endless.

Of course! My note 2 had drastically slowed down on stock! To such a level that it was taking a good 5 seconds to open the dialer! It was too slow to switch between apps!
But once I switched to a custom Rom, it was lightning fast! And the abundance of customizations! It's just awesome! I'm on probam.. check it out! It's got all the goodies of all the top roms available!

Absolutely - I would highly recommend at least rooting and flashing kernel like RedPill. It certainly improves battery life, and gives you calibrated screen (seriously, you don't know what the hell you are missing, because Samsung Calibration is horrible), has option to amplify headphone volume, and gives you better sound quality etc. And also many other useful apps need rooted phone.
ARHD is apparently smooth for many people. There are plenty of other ROMs like Project AOSP (AOSP look and feel), X Note (floating multiwindow) etc. Battery life should be awesome too.
I've tried plenty of roms on this phone and my experience has been that none of them offer much benefit over rooted stock in conjunction with the xposed framework. Battery life is great as is reliability. Sometimes those customs will have a funky bug which went rear it's head until the worst time.
Sent from my GT-N7100
My Note 2 was pretty slow on stock. Huge lag on lockscreen, unlock and lags all over the place.
Installing Nova Launcher and a custom lockscreen did help quite a bit, but it still left a bit to be desired.
Now I'm on Phoenix Rom and it seems much better. Battery life is much improved as well. And perhaps most importantly, I got rid of most of the ungodly TouchWiz ugliness in the process! The default 320 dpi is ridiculous for me! Huge menus occupying most of the precious screen estate. With 240 the phone is much more productive and everything just looks better and sharper.
So for me it was definately worth it!
Though with root, Xposed and custom skinning you can achieve quite a lot already. But root and Xposed are pretty much mandatory.
