MEHRDAD595's solution does not work for this device, because ASUS uses a different key to sign their firmware/ota's.
Tested and not work, got an "Update error" in the tablet after flashing
is metadata relevant?

Tried with fixed zip file, still getting same error

Bad news! I compared the original firmware with a manually signed one - ASUS uses their own key and not the public available Android testing key .
So MEHRDAD595's rooting method does not work until somebody exposes the new key. We have to find another weak point.
Any news about rooting this device?

Sadly, it uses intel z2520 chipset which the root-apps don't support and it has a locked bootloader, so no CWM Recovery

Have you tried Cydia Impactor? i've read in some thread that it can but not sure if it was for previous fonepad version
Let me know how it works, im interested to get one myself as i just bricked my GNote N7000.
Cydia Impactor doesnt not recognize the device at least on my PC Windows 64bit, i can only use the fastboot commands but they still return as "Unknown OEM command". It may need the drivers but asus havent released drivers or img/raw of the firmware so far.
Edit: I managed to make cydia impactor recognize my device but i get "signature bugs unavailable" i tried all the kind of options nothing worked apparently
What is this?
http://www.mobyware.net/asus-fonepad-hd-7-me372cg-device-4137/how-to-root-get-free-240055.html
try this method and reply plz coz im planing to buy this device!
You cant root it with VRoot sorry. So far i cant seem to find any one-click root tool that works.
We need help from someone whos experienced on rooting devices i guess
We need a Fonepad ROM. Recompile it, put SuperUser and Binaries inside, compile it and install it on device via System updates. This is how it works on old FonePad.
Is there any solution yet to root the asus fonepad 7 ?

EDIT: Do not try this. Not working.
anyone tried?
It's nothing but flashing CF Auto root which doesn't work as I've already tried it after installing OTA yesterday which ended up bricking my phone
yeah right there is a comment below that post saying it doesnt work....
I've shared recovery.img and boot.img file from kitkat firmware in CF Auto root thread so hopefully @Chainfire should be able to update the same

Sorry for this. Yeah, I also tried, did not work.
I saw that this was posted on 20Aug and the firmware version mentioned on the blog also Kitkat firmware, that was the confusion.
Did you try towelroot? Maybe it will work... it is more safer than cflautoroot..
In my snapdragon note 3 neo with kitkat towelroot is working fine..

I was able update while rooted through xposed frameworks with wanam. You can trick the system from "custom" to "official." of course once updated you'll lose your root status.

Has anybody found an exploit to root this handset?
Just read up on it. I rooted my G3123 with a quick search here. You will use a root method for the Ultra. I'll look for it when I have time and post you the link. The only problem is supposedly the image quality on pictures goes down, but I didn't notice anything on my phone.

Can someone please elaborate on the guide posted. It seems as though to flash the TWRP you FIRST need to flash that guys custom kernel, is this correct? I want to keep my current kernel while also installing TWRP, is this possible?
