I'm just looking to return this phone back to a stock ROM. It will be on the Sprint network again, so just want to know how to do this.
I actually think the old original HTC Sense ROM was best, and would like to go back, but would be great if I could just get the most up to date version of the Sense ROM for this phone (and I know it's an old phone).
I found this online. Thoughts?

Do I need to download the Kernel too, or is it all included in that package?

hello, just wondering, i see there is alot of senseHD roms coming out. i was justt wondering if it was possible to put my htc desire onto a senseHD rom, then just as easy flash back to orignal sense.
i would love to give it a try for day or so, but dont want to be stuck without my camera
Yes of course you can. Hboot updates are not in any custom Rom, and upon installing another custom Rom version number isn't checked. It just flashes files to the system partition.
thank you very much
I've been using custom ROMS on WinMo for a couple of years now, and have finally taken the plunge to move to Android since I don't fancy WinMo7.
My Desire should be here in the next few days... and I've been reading about Rooting it. Apparently it voids my warranty - but HTC repaired my HD2 which had custom ROMS then reflashed... so I'm not too worried.
In WinMo I simply flash my ROM, then use it. If I have a problem I do a Hard Reset which returns the ROM to how it was when I flashed it.
Can someone please explain to me what the Recovery ROMS are for? I'm assuming this is something that comes as standard on the phone? If so - what benefit do I get from flashing a custom Recovery?
Recovery is a piece of software to replace the standard htc recovery mode, from a custom recovery, you can flash new roms, and also mods and themes, search for unrevoked, this is a utility that will root the stock htc software, it will also install.a custom recovery all in one go

Thanks for the reply. I've already got unrevoked on my desktop in preperation for the phone arriving!
Before you do anything, check the ROM version running on your phone when you get it. To do this, go to:
Settings>About phone>Software information>Software version
Once you have the version go to http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo and see if your software version is available. If so, download it so should you need to go back to stock you can
First off I keep getting the phone turn off at random moments, usually twice a day
Widgets disappear from the screen after re boot. and then from the menu so I have to uninstall and re install the app to get them back.
Keyboard can't be changed to any other type.
Tried the iPhone style and the Gingerbread one.
Can't turn off notification for the messaging and Facebook application
Seems it doesn't allow changes to the settings.
Anyone know how to fix these problems, or maybe another ROM thats not so fussy.
On another note. where can I get the standard HTC ROM. I've never had standard Android on this Desire so maybe I could go back to spec.
I'm running Defrost too, but I think it's the best rom around. I haven't got a clue how to fix this, except flash it back to stock and start from scratch.
To do that, just flash an RUU. Have a look at this thread:http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-unroot-the-htc-desire/
Would I have to re unlock root then ?
Also which RUU is the one I need

UK no network lock
Thanks
That depends on how you bought the phone. If you bought is yourself as a retail product, you should take the WWE RUU. If you bought it via a Telecom provider, you should choose the one from that particular provider.
If you can choose between multiple versions: choose the one that came with your phone. Eg if you had Android 2.1 in the past, you should choose a 2.1 one. All RUU's with version 1.x are 2.1, all 2.x are 2.2.

Ahh, now I know it was an unbranded version but when I got it it already had Defrost on it.
OK cool. I used the exe version of the AUU and it worked. I'm back as standard now. Which isn't to bad. Might leave it like this for now.
As I don't really know what the benefits of the DeFrost are.
OK, here is a rundown of what happened.
I have EVO 4G rooted with CM7.1 ROM.
My line was eligible for upgrade, but I wanted to use my upgrade for my brothers line with GS2 phone from Amazon. I bought it from Amazon, activated on my line, then had sprint swap the phones.
After the swap and I was back on my EVO 4G, my 3G was not working. So I tried to read up on some things and since I didn't want to have to revert back to stock before taking it to Sprint, I tried to flash the latest radios. That didn't solve the problem. So now I figured I should just revert back to stock and take it to Sprint. Tried to use UnRevoked S-On tool, then PC36IMG.zip to get it back to stock. The problem now is that I cant flash the Unrevokd S-On tool. It gives me an error saying the radio is not compatible. Maybe this was from me flashing the latest radios? So before I get any further down a hole, I wanted to ask if anyone knew how I can solve my issues.
Thanks in advance!
You dont need to unroot, but you DO need to be on a stock rom to be able to change your number and such.
Any examples of stock ROMs I can use?
Theres one by brad 560. Its just a stock rom.
Any rom based of of fw 4.54 will work. Its sense 1.0 so look for that.
Anything with CM7,AOSP,MIUI,SENSE 2.0,3.0,3.5 is not stock.

You don't need to mess with s-on, radios or unroot. All you need is to load a Sense based Rom and Update your Profile. Every time you swap phones, your Profile 1 AAA password changes. Updating Profile fixes it.
How to install the stock rom for htc design evo 4g ? the original rom is gingerbread but i updated the phone to 4.0.3.. how i can downgrade to gingerbread or install gingerbread ?
someone ?
Hey, sorry this is late but I just came here since I was looking to do the same for my EVO 4G since I got a new phone. I'll be giving this to my dad since he doesn't have a smartphone and is going to start with my old one.
You're looking for the HTC EVO Design 4G? I couldn't seem to find a forum section for that phone. What you're looking for is an RUU file. It's what HTC phones use to restore them to an official stock ROM. The codename for the EVO Design 4G is Kingdom. You can find the RUU's here: http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Kingdom
I'm not sure if this will get you back to Gingerbread. From some quick Google searches, I believe the 2.12.573.7 one (the top one) is Gingerbread. You would download the .exe file and run it. Make sure you phone is connected to the computer via USB and follow the instructions that come up.
