Need a case that will protect my screen from drops (raised edge?) - Nexus 5 Accessories

I was using one of the $.99 eBay cases and dropped my phone a couple of weeks ago face down and of course the screen shattered. I just got it repaired and don't want this to happen again. Are there any cases that people can recommend that would protect the screen if I were to drop it facedown again?
Something with a raised lip?

I honestly don't know how anybody can stand using the zagg, feels like you're running your finger across rubber to me. I have a spigen glaS TR, works great with the slim armor case. The others that would maybe work for you would be the trident aegis and the seidio active.

yeah, i love how it feels. lol. been using it also on my old device.
for the op, i been using the ultra-hybrid btw. really nice and not bulky feel.

I swear by my Diztronic TPU cases, been using them since I shattered my One S screen.
One of the main reasons is the amount of edge lip around the screen to protect it.

Having a lip on the case doesn't really stop the glass from shattering in any way. It's more to protect from scratching the screen when placed face down.
For drop protection, you need a cushion or buffer zone where some of the impact can be absorbed by the case and not the phone itself.

I hope going back to the Spigen case will save me now, same thing happened to me when I changed to a cover case which conveniently when I dropped my phone the cover opened up leaving my phone unprotected to fall on it's own screen and completely shattering, guess I should have stuck with the Spigen ultra hybrid.

So I thought I'd start a thread about cases. I'm still looking for a case and a screen protector for my phone. So post pics of yours and a review of how you like it!

Exactly what I was thinking. I got the Ballistic case and I love it. I also got the SGP ultra oleophobic screen protector (the one for the skyrocket) and I absolutely hate it!
It attracts oil like a magnet, and the smudges make the rainbow effect, even wiping them doesn't clean it; it just moved the smudge around until I do a few passes. I even thought I installed it with the sticky side up, but no, I checked.
Anyway, rant aside, do you have any of these problems with the realook?
so i am torn between getting the ballistic case or waiting for the trident ams kraken
ive never owned either anyone have an opinion of both?
i know ballistic is big and bulky but thats what i need as i drop my phone alot.
Ballistic case and Zagg screen protector love both.
SEXY = Incipio feather case + steinheil ultra crystal screen protector blah blah blah

I did a bad install the first time, there was lint and the SP was slightly off, I couldn't deal with it so I took it off and applied the 2nd one, and to perfection it's still on here and looks as if it isn't there.

Yes it may be bulky but it is great protection. I let my little cousin play with it, she dropped it not once, but TWICE on cobblestone, and it survived both times, no cosmetic damage on the case either. I'm gonna go back to Seidio as I need it with a holster, tired of pulling in and out of my pocket. If the Seidio holster fits the Ballistic case, I might as well keep the Ballistic on here.

Definitely! It makes the white background so grainy and takes away from the beauty of the AMOLED screen.
Best Skins Ever are - The Best!
I just received this and applied it. 24 hours later, there are no bubbles and the view quality is perfect! One of the (many) things I appreciate about my SGS2 is its thinness. My thinking was why get a case that only takes away from that svelt feel? While it may not protect well against a drop of 6+ feet, I pay for monthly insurance for that - I know it won't get scratched up. I think it actually makes the phone better to grip with it on as well! You can't beat the price either at either $6.99 for the screen only, or $8.99 for the entire device. Highly recommended!!!

[Q] otterbox defender VS ballistic maxx

hi guys
i have been comparing these two products for a quite some time and i cannot give my final decision to which product should i buy. i am looking for a case that has a front face cover. and i found the ballistic maxx and otterbox defender. but what makes me think twice between these product is the comes with screen protector. these protector is quite think and most likely it will ruin the colors of my S3's screen. i have seen it in some product reviews posted by youtube users. the screen becomes glary. and the second thing that makes me think twice is, if i remove the screen protector, will my S3 shake around inside the case if i dont use the screen protector?
i tried contacting the customer support of otterbox they said they cannot answer my concern. and for ballistic they told me i can still use the case even if i dont use the screen protector, but i still do not understand what they really meant. and they did not gave me a straight answer to my question on what will really happen if i did not use their product's screen protector.
now i would like to ask your personal opinion about these two products, which is better? and if you guys did not use the comes with screen protector will your S3 shake around inside the case? and lastly i am just looking for a case that has a front cover. i dont really like the flip cover cases.
thanks
From what I read about the defender taking out the screen protector does not affect the snugg-ness of the phone and case.
I have the trident kraken that came with a removable screen protector, that I decided but to use.
Sent from Pluto.
I know how you feel, i looked at both those cases and went with the Trident Kraken. Provides the same level of protection and the kickstand is a bonus. Second choice would be the otterbox.

I personally hated the otter box, sold it as soon as I got the chance. I kept the maxx and it's the case I go for when I need a holster.
I took the screen protector off of my defender with no fit issues. I stopped using it because it squeeks so much. When you hold the phone. This may be due to extra flexing from the removed screen protector as it is rigid and glued in.
The otterbox is an awesome case, the only thing I hate is that the outer silicone layer always stretches out. The defender for my GS3 streched out after 2 months...

I think it's just the case in general. My screen protector is still in tact and it squeaks like no other.
I'm tempted to get a new case, but can't decide. I've narrowed it down to the SG MAXX, Commuter, Kraken, PX260, and the Dualtek.

I have both cases mentioned in OP. The included screen covers are garbage. Make the screen look like crap plus particles such as sand, dirt (I am in construction field) and so on can get behind protector and scratch screen.
Standard zagg and otterbox working well for me. Zagg HD seemed to thin and marked up easy om my pocket. Otter box laps over the edge of the zagg, which so far has kept the edge from peeling on me which is a common problem for me and my use.
Ballastic has great rubber corners for drop protection but the otter box is easier to slip in and out of pocket and my preferred case.

I also have both cases described in OP and have to agree to a point, the screen protectors make the screen look terrible. I went with the Ballistic for a couple reasons. 1. The Ballistic seems to slide in and out of my pocket easier (probably because it has more smooth surface than the Defender). 2. The belt clip seems more comfortable to me. The Defender belt clip seemed to sit higher on me which would gouge my hip. Not cool. 3. I got the Defender used when I bought my phone and the rubber on it seems a little loose. I don't think this will happen with the Ballistic mainly because my wife has one on her Note and it's help up extremly well. 3. I got my Ballistic Maxx on ebay for $30 in the color I wanted and I thought that was a good price. Now I need to ditch this screen protector and get a nice one.
I too have both cases. I did/don't use any of the screen protectors that came with it. As for OP, it really depends what you're trying to get out of it. What's your average day like? do you work in an office? go to school? work in construction? I am a process engineer and i'm in and out of food plants and i pull my phone out to snap pictures at least 4 times a day on a daily basis for an hour or so. With that being said I NEED the protection because I have dropped it a few times. I'm currently using the Ballastic without the clip, i just hold it in my pocket. The otterbox is a bit bulkier for me and it slips easy (from hand and in and out of pocket). The ballistic on the other hand, doesn't. It gives you good grip, and isn't a pain for me to pull out of my pockets (i wear dickies for work and rvca romero ii jeans when i'm out and about or jordan basketball shorts when i feel like bumming it). I like the grip because it doesn't slip out of my pockets easily when i wear basketball shorts as the ottorbox did. HOWEVER, be warned that it does pull lint easily. It's not alot where you'll get a hairball when you pull it out of your pockets but it is there. Overall, I'm sticking with the ballastic because it offers great drop protection (as does the OB), but with the corners I personally feel it's more secure and it's not as bulky as people say it is. I'll post up pictures when i get the chance.

Cases for Spigen Curved Glass Screen Protectors

I bought the Spigen Curved Glass screen protector, and I absolutely love the fit. I have zero bubbles anywhere on my screen and everything is laying flat. However, the case I have keeps making the sides of the screen protector come up. Here is the case I have now (which I freaking love):

Is there anyone else that has this screen protector and can recommend a case that doesn't make the sides of the protector come up?

Thanks for your response! The UAG is nice, but too bulky. The Element Eclipse looks amazing, but I'll pay $65 for a case the same day I win a lottery. As for Spigen, I don't see a Modello for the SGS3, but I don't like any of their cases. I'd get a flip cover case, but the ones I've seen have no protection for the top or bottom of the phone.
I do very much appreciate your feedback, I'm just hoping for a case that I like and that works with this protector.
The Rock Quicksand has been great for me.

FYI, I decided to try the Seidio Surface case, thinking that if I could slide the case on it wouldn't be a problem. Fail. Totally pulls the sides of the protector up. Unless I can find a similar, minimalist case that will work with this screen protector, I'll have to just get a different protector.
A little old, but all the cases in on my crappy blog worked fine with the Curved Glass.
Including all metal bumpers.

General Inquiry About Screen Protectors

Just a question to those of you, I'm assuming most, who put a screen protector on your phone. I've been having troubles with the Nexus 5 screen protectors, specifically a matted protector from Ghost Armor, in which my common TPU case pushes up the corners of the protector rather severely.
I've put screen protectors on all my many phones and have never had such a problem, I'm assuming it has something to do with the Nexus 5's small bezel and how close both the case and the screen protector come out to the edges.
I'm just wondering if this is a common problem with any brand of screen protector and any case in general. Has anyone else had this happen?
I ordered a Spigen Neo Hybrid a couple days ago and plan to get my Ghost Armor reapplied, but now I'm wondering if there is a point to doing so if this will just happen again.
I don't have the ghost armor, but I have had both Spigen PET and glass screen protectors on the phone, and the Neo Hybrid case did not cause listing on either. The Spigen Slim Armor, and the Ringke Fusion also did not cause lifting of either screen protector. The Ballistic SG Maxx does not cause lifting of my glass screen protector, have not tried it with PET.

Thanks for the reply, I'm glad to hear that the Neo Hybrid didn't cause any lifting hopefully the same is with Ghost Armor. Side note, you mention having a glass screen protector is there any trouble fitting that with the Neo Hybrid? Not with the lifting, but like with how tight it is or something.

I find glass screen protectors much easier to get applied than traditional plastic ones. They go on easier (apply themselves) and have less air bubbles. I only ended up with one, and it was too late to re-apply the screen, so I just left it
prshosting.org
When the case "hugs" the lip of the phone some what and the screen protector goes right to the edge this can happen. Ringke Fusion doesn't seem to "hug" much at all and I haven't read anyone having these issues with it.

Mine fell out of my shirt pocket from about 2 feet above the tile floor. Landed on the bottom right corner and put one long crack diagonal up the screen. First and only time to drop the phone. I let Spigen know of my disappointment. FYI, this phone's screen becomes unresponsive to touch when broken (well one half of mine did). $156 screen replacement through LG.

It's sad to hear that.
But is there any one who had his g3 dropped and survived in spigen case? I have it as well but now thinking about changing it for something else. Although I don't drop my phone often. [emoji12]
Wysłane z mojego LG-D855 przy użyciu Tapatalka
I started this thread because I read a few reports on screen breakage. I have the Spigen case on the phone now but because of the possibility of screen damage I decided to go with the Otter Defender. Between the 2 LG G3's in the family we have 4 Spigen cases. While waiting for the Otter case my G3 slipped out of my hand while retrieving it off my dresser. It landed face down. Luckily for me there was no damage. I also have a Tempered Glass screen protector on the G3. So the Spigen plus the screen protector did its job. The drop distance was about 3 feet. Now that I see how easy it is to drop a phone. Thankfully the Spigen and the tempered glass protector did its job. I now choose to have a little more protection so I'm glad that I ordered the Otter Defender.
I have the slim armor case and I dropped my G3 from ear height (I'm 6'3") and it landed on the top right corner onto a concrete driveway.
No damage to the phone at all
Unfortunately it seems to be a hit or miss situation. Insurance is costly so we are all looking for a compromise solution. To the best of my knowledge a good quality case is that compromise. Without the Spigen I believe my G3 screen would have a cracked screen when is slipped out of my hands and landed screen side down. Perhaps my tempered glass screen protector helped. The fall was slight in height; I'm sure that also helped. The Spigen Slim Armor case has saved myself and others. Others have had unfortunate results. The Otter Defender also has had reports of damaged phones. I know of no bullet proof solution but I'm going to move to the Otter Defender.
I don't have a drop experience but I have had both a Spigen slim armor and a Rinke max, and I can tell you that the tpu corner lip of the Spigen is way easier to be removed than the Rinke max case, even a Distronic full tpu case sits better than the slim armor

I had a Spigen Ultra Crystal screen protector on, but have since changed that to a Zagg tempered glass protector.

I was curious cause spigen glass saved my g3 screen when it said hi to the floor.
I received the Otter Defender for the lg g3. The case has three parts, a synthetic rubber outer-shell, a two part phone enclosure that snaps together securing the phone. There is a plastic screen protector (I might eventually remove). My tempered glass protector fits well and doesn't in peed the phones fit inside the case. It feels well in my hands. It looks and feels very secure, especially the fact that the front and back snap together.
My wife dislikes the case says "It looks masculine." and dislikes all the colors the case comes in. See prefers the Spigen Slim Armor.
EDIT: The plastic screen saver hampers the touch function. Since I already have a temper glass protector on the phones screen, I removed the Otter Defender's protectors screen. Everything fits perfectly.
