[Q] Can't write to SD card - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I've got a HTC ONE M8 and just bought a SanDisk 32GB Mobile Ultra class10 microSD, I cant seem to write any files to this or even creat a new folder on the external SD, the phone is recognising the SD and the correct size. Im using ES file explorer but can't create a new folder or even move anything form my internal memory to is.
Any help would be much appreciated.

You can write files to your sd card from the stock app manager only since kitkat doesn't allow this with a third party app.
All you need to do is go to your Polaris Office app that comes pre loaded with the phone then go to file browser and transfer desired files to the sd card. The app is generally is in the Productivity folder in App Drawer.

Also, settings, storage, allows you to move files to SD Card.

how to move apk onto sd

Hi everybody,,
I want to know how to move apk & data files onto external sd. when i moved apk via settings or with the help of app2sd or force2sd, that apk & data files weren't actually moved onto external sd.
Can it possibly apk & data files be moved onto external sd in P6?
And then, when I used gl2sd apk, it can't mount.
Is it not compatitble with P6 ???
Thanks in advance!!!

even if i moved that folder by root explorer or something like this, viber can't run normally.
how can I do it? or Can't it move onto external sd like Samsung S3, NoteII ???
btw, any1 can use GL2SD apk in P6??? if can, pls let me explain how to do it.
as for me, it can't mount (
Thanks anyway JackHanAnLG

correct answer!
why dont option default storage external sd card to setting? only sd card data obb apk install..interesting..no space left on the memory.
Thanks all for your kindly answers.
But I just want to know how come you moved apk onto sd card via setting.
When I moved onto external sdcard, the phone showed that that apk is moved onto external sdcard but it didn't actually moved.
Cuz no filed associated with that apk cannot be found in the external sd.
So i finally concluded that it is because of Huawei P6 and I suggest everyone not to buy this phone if you want to play HD games.
however, if you want to use just surfing & normal phone usage, that P6 is cool.
Thanks to all.

Mind to share the more details how to get that?
I have tried several methods.
First I tried to install de 116 chinese rom, where you can choose the default method as sd, but this doesn't work, it only installs in the sd the apks you are able to move in our version.
Then I tried link2sd, doesn't work, you have to do the partition tree externally and after that it says our phone is not supported.
Finally I tried to change the default location with adb tool, I think this has worked but there are some problems installing apps like swiftkey in the sd, they are not working well so you have to move to the phone, by now this is the best solution.
Anyway, I wanted to install google play music so I can keep the music in the phone but you cant delete it from the internal memory so my method doesnt work either...

HELP I would be pulling my hair out if I had any! SD Card

HELP!
I have a GPE and I am unable to write to the SD card. Copying files doesn't work and I cannot create a folder. I have formatted the card as fat32 in my PC and "erased" the card through settings. I have the same problem with both cards I tried. A 32 GB and 16gb. Both work fine in the PC but cannot create a folder using es explorer or root file explorer. When I tried to copy a folder on it says "copy failed"
It gets even weirder...
If I try to write anything to it from the tablet, no matter how big or small, it refuses. I cannot create a folder on the sd card from the tablet. But when I connect the tablet to my PC I can write to and create folders on the sd card... I tried using DS file (a file explorer from synology) and tried to create a folder and was told "you don't have privilege"
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You

Kitkat does not allow write to external SD if i remember rightly, kinda crappy and makes the SD card kinda useless, i think CM11 allows you to, not tried it to be honest but sadly you cannot put that on your GPe version neither
Actually there is a fix. See this link. Left you the same response on Android Central. It took longer to reveal as you never mentioned over there that you were running the GPE edition. You posted the issue in the standard G Pad forums. In any case this should fix your issue.

Worked like a charm!
So the GPE will not recognize an SD card at all under stock settings?

Remember that a GPE device is sort of a baby Nexus, and Google refuses to put SD cards on the Nexus devices. You should be able to get the SD card slot working on the GPE version, though, just takes extra effort.

Right, as long as I can get it to the point where I can save some music and movies, then Im happy.
I know...stupid question but i never owned an android device with a micro SD slot before so dont judge me too harshly :
i bought a micro SD (Transendent) 32 GB, formated it with NTSC and put a 6gb 720p x264 movie on it. How can i see the microSD card in the G pad?? I use Astro file manager...but i cant seem to find the microSD...i tryed several folders (mnt/microsd...) but it always just shows the content from the internal memory of the Gpad instead of the micro SD.
So how can i see and access the files? Should i try a different file explorer?
Thanks.

You might need to reformat to exFAT. Seems to be the trick to getting the G Pad to recognize.
My 64gb Sandisk is formatted exFAT and I was able to use MX Player on my GPE to play a vide just fine.

MicroSD card ~ Write Permissions?

We all know that since KitKat 4.4.2 Google has clamped down on writing to the MicroSD card.
To that I have a couple of questions I'm going to throw into the audience:-
1. Default Camera photo/video storage
Do we know for definite if the G3 allows you to save your photo and video files directly to the MicroSD card?
I can not remember seeing a choice between Internal or External.
2. Default File Manager writing to the MicroSD card
As file managers such as Solid Explorer etc. now no longer have write permissions (unless rooted) for the MicroSD card, the only file managers that can now write to MicroSD is those that have been given write permissions as in the default file manager.
Question being, again do we know for definite if the G3 default File Manager will allow you to copy to the MicroSD card?
If the answer is yes, then just how good is the G3's default File Manager?
REefault MicroSD card ~ Write Permissions
Yes and yes - both programs support writing to the SD card
I've used both features on my F400K
The explorer is not the best of its kind but it is OK

Similar to the user above, I can read/write to my 32gb FAT32 formatted MicroSDHC card with the G3 file explorer. I personally prefer ES File explorer myself, but I found no issues with their default file explorer. Hope that helps answer your question
Also
By the way you can also you can set the LG PC Suite to sync to the SD

What do you mean, trouble reading or writing to the sdcard? Try formatting the card on the phone itself, that usualy works.
What are you trying to do with the card? it might be that you just are not aware with how Android Kitkat treats the sd card slot?

Apps can only write and edit files that they themselves created on the SD card which is why third party apps are not working. It is to stop rouge apps deleting / creating / modifying files that they shouldn't be.

With files you mean system files or files created by you? You should be able to delete or move files with an alternative file explorer or you might try gaining root (towel root is easiest) to gain admin rights.
If you root your phone, you can remove the limitations that were added in KitKat.
Many 'newbie experts' who say that an 8 or 16GB phone is fine as you can move apps etc. to an SD card are finding out the hard way that KitKat restrictions prevent using the card the same way as it used to be in older Android versions unless the device is rooted.

Any ideas of a fix?

Someone else had the same problem and they did an equipment swap and the new G3 didn't have the problem.
So it might be the SD card slot itself or its interface and a exchange might be neccessary.

Re: SD Card Into Internal Memory

Re: SD Card Into Internal Memory
Hi guys
Can you let me know how to make the SD card part of the internal memory. The A5 2017 is a good phone but the problem is the limitation in the internal memory and seriously i'm not willing to change the phone just because it lacks space. So, if someone knows how to make the SD card part of the internal memory, please do share. Since I'm quite new, if there's a need to root the phone or whatever, please send the instructions also. Much appreciated.

As I know, on stock you can't do this, but on android8.1 unofficial ROMs yiu can do that.
if you want to use more app in your phone, can use "link2sd" app. it links app 2 sd
else you can use custom rom to combine sd memory and phone but in this case you cant use sd card out of your phone because other devices cant detect that.

it's saying link2sd could not obtain root access.
if you have root access make sure you respond "allow" or grant to the superuser request.
