Hi guys,
I have recently bought the HTC m8 and I have some question you might be able to answer..
- I want to receive OTA updates, but meanwhile I want root access to be able to use titaniumbackup/adblocker/etcetc..
- Is there any chance to do this?

Yes, so long as you keep stock recovery, stock ROM, stock firmware, stock CID, stock MID, you will be able to.
So I will need to do the following then:
- unlock bootloader
-boot into recovery then nandroid backup with recovery.img
- custom recovery+root
-s-off maybe?
And then flashing the stock recovery back and I will have root and ota...right?

That was easy thank you :
- Unlocked
- Then booted into Phil'S Touch recovery
- Nandroid backup (with recovery)
- Install SU binary
- S-OFF with firewater and thats it.
I kept everything stock, so in theory I will be able to get ota's but of course after every update Root has to be "installed" again. and booting into custom recovery will be also needed.
Thanks!

Did you flash a 4.4.3 ROM without upgrading firmware? That's your problem. If you are s-off upgrade your firmware, if not you either live with the slow boots or go back to stock and wait the OTA from HTC
Another possibility is that ART is activated. Takes hohes to boot since I switched from Davlik.

Just flash a TWRP or CWM backup, don't know which recovery you've got and optionally stock recovery to get back to stock.

Just flash stock recovery first and as long you dont modified anything, just rooted, the ota will go through. I heard you might loose the root after ota.

You already in stock 4.4.2 just rooted and twrp. All you need is stock recovery and checknthe updates and receive the ota. Check the xda thread if its true that once you accepted the 4.4.3 ota, you will loose root.

i can root in 4.4.3 ???
I was on the original 1.12 firmware, but here was my process.
I relocked my bootloader, used the 1.57 RUU to return to stock. Updated to 4.4.3 with the OTA, went back through the HTC Dev unlock process to unlock my bootloader, then flashed TWRP.
From there you can install a custom rom or use TWRP to inject root to the stock rom.

No. I had to go to the HTC Dev site and put in new token info to get a new binary.
There has been an OTA update pushed to VM 816s for about a month or so. I know that normally we cannot apply this to rooted devices because of the tampered flag being set off and not running the stock recovery. Is there any way beyond running RUU and getting to complete stock to apply the update? If not, does anyone know how you can extract update from an updated phone?

Unroot through the SuperSU app and reflash the stock recovery.
Please Delete. I screwed up and double posted.

But then I'm back to stock when I unlock. I'm better off just running the RUU so I get 100% back to stock

I tested this last night, you don't need to re-lock the bootloader. Just unroot, flash stock recovery, and apply the update. No need to lose data.
can't get it to work

Hmm.... I updated via OTA and I looked at the version number.
I used the RUU and looked at version number and they were both the same though.
Can I reroot after update
For some reason it's being a pain and not allowing me to install the update. When I flash the recovery and attempt to boot into it to for a system update, all I get is a red triangle with an exclamation point through it
How to upgrade htc one m8 unlocked and S off from 4.4.4 to 5 lollipop.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
The easiest way is to use the "flashing firmware without the panic attacks" thread and update your firmware. Then simply flash a Lollipop ROM.
Again, that's the simplest way. The hard way is to return to stock, stock recovery, have no system changes and see if you can OTA update.

How I can flash lollipop on my HTC one? Can you guide me or share some useful link for installation.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
I told you already... Post 2 .
Use this guide to update your firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/firmware-flashing-panic-attacks-t2824048
Then flash Lollipop based rom. If you like stock, try Maximus HD. It's very close to stock.
?
Or, look for your stock recovery here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
And flash it. Bug your system must be in tact. If you've uninstalled any system apps, or have xposed, then you need to look for your stock nandroid and flash it.... Then the stock recovery.
Or as said above, find the RUU for your device. Your current version will restore you stock, then ota will work. Or the Lollipop ruu if it's available yet.
Hi guys, Been reading the TWRP guidebut cannot seem tho find the answer to this directly and I'm looking for clarification on the title question, can someone confirm for me please?, if not is it just rooting that will Bork OTA? In the TWRP-Thread Post 3 you will find the answers and the needed steps for it.
Been reading the thread but just doest seem clear to me, if someone could make it clear for me here in this thread that would be great

OK re read the post , so it's rooting that will break OTA , not simply installing twrp, correct?

lets see if i can simplify it
TWRP 2.8.5.0 = OTA broken
TWRP 2.8.6.0 = OTA broken
TWRP 2.8.6.4 beta = system locked read only long enough to make a system backup (used below)
TWRP 2.8.6.4 beta + SuperSU = OTA broken
using fastboot flash system system.img to restore your system backup allows OTA again
you also have to flash stock recovery to regain OTA ability (same time you restore system)
Excellent thanks that clarifies it perfectly for me
