What text messaging application do you use? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What text messaging application do you use?
And why?

I personally keep stuff stock. If I use gpe I use hangouts if I use sense I use sense. I like keeping the same experience and change back and forth from gpe then to sense
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

for sms i use evolve, for messenger, i use telegram.
why? evolve works and has a nice ui. telegram because it's a very nice messenging app that offers both cloud messenging (meaning your conversation stay in cloud as to access via computer, phone, tablet) or self-destructing messages. also, comfortable after reading their privacy policy.

its a secret! I am so sorry.

Textra. Fast and no fuss but plenty of options.
And so it was

Hangouts

Hangouts because I have several friends and we join groups on top of using sms.

Hangouts still remains sluggish, though the interface is admittedly nice.
Recently, I've been trying out Hello SMS and like it a lot. Fast, sleek and very pretty to look at.
The real question is WHEN IS HANGOUTS incorporating Google Voice?!

Textra the best of them all

I use stock. I like how it looks like traditional online forums, where other's "posts" are highlighted and your reply to them is down there line by line, if you know what i mean.

[Q] what's everyone using for an sms app?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
GoSMS w/ the emoji plugin.
I heard you get a lot of spam with that app?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I get a message or two month. Usually about a new theme they've added or some feature they've updated. Nothing intrusive, or annoying and its usually just a notification in that app that is quickly deleted.
I've been using it for about a year.

I like handcent...not sure what the downsides are to handcent compared to the others. I did try gosms a while back and wasn't impressed. I could give it another shot though.
I really don't have a lot of requirements for a messaging app. I don't do groups or advanced messaging. Even so, I find the stock messaging app extremely unappealing and not adequate for my minor needs.
Handcent here. Been using it since my original Droid days I think. Just fell in love with it. The only other messaging app that I didn't much mind was the stock one on my Galaxy Note 2, but I've since fallen back to the familiar. I find it functional and customizable enough for my tastes.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Handscent here as well... with the group messaging plug-in... got rid of the Emoji plug-in due to it messing with my MMS for some reason... maybe a combination of the two... Main reason I got Handscent was the color customization to match my theme.
I have been using Trillian since the before android. It has been the best way to monitor all my IMs. Different customers all like different IM services and this way I could cover them all.

Default. I used to use go but it got too bloated for my liking and then they disabled backing up of sms to local storage and pushed their cloud backup.

I tried most mostly because there seems to be a growing requirement for emoji. pffft.
All non stock apps except for chomp scroll very poorly when moving and reading through the messages: go, handsent, etc. Chomp is the only one that scrolls smoothly. However, I cannot attach pics or vids - it crashes. contacting the developer said "fixing hopefully in a week" until then I just use stock app o if I need to send a mms. I'd use the stock app but its emoji is very limited. always a compromise isn't it?
Pansi SMS nice simple interface. I use my backup root to save MMS and sms

Thought I was the only one on this. I've been using bitesms on Iphones for years so I've been so used to it, so when I jumped ship and go with the GN2 naturally I had to find somethign similiar. You're right about mms though, but I use stock sms app for that purpose, so chompsms all the way.
Go sms with emoji plug in. Like all the different emojis. Also wife has iphone with ios6 and stock messaging wouldn't show pics of the emojis on her phone. Go sms shows with no problem.

Just wanted to give you guys an update. I have been using chomp sms for the past couple of days and love it. It's not as flashy as go sms is with themes but it make up for it without the constant text messages they send you. I also donated to the dev which got rid of the adds so it almost feels like a stock app. Anyways its a really great app if any of you are interested.

Best Messaging App.

Just wanted to share the best messaging app to date.
App

Emoji Plug-in

Its in the Play Store why you so hype?
Well I've spent countless hours trying to get a good sms app. I've tried them all Go SMS, Chomp SMS (Same Developers BTW), Handcent, AOSP Messaging, Etc... and they tend to get laggy at some point or lack group messaging or both. In other words i'm just trying to share my happiness.
You Welcome.

I would say facebook messenger would definitely be 2nd best in my opinion. I dont like the loading time on it besides that it is filled with features. Textra is just so quick and it just works. By the way anyone who likes the facebook messenger notification bubbles should look into Ninja SMS. Textra and Ninja SMS work great together.
Seems great. Am i just missing something though? The description in the play store says it is semi customizable. I don't see any customization options besides the color of the default icon when a message is received.
Edit: re read the description and everything makes sense now. I thought they had theme options and stuff. Oh well! I'm definitely keeping this app and waiting for their next update. Thanks

Just tried this, haven't found anything as good as Sliding Messaging yet though. It's got three different layouts and the emoji are so much better.
Just tried it and it missing a lot that handcent has. Customize options. Also does not have any themes to it. I think in a few months after a lot of feedback it might be good

This kind of annoys me because I paid for Chomp.... Why not just integrate the features. Oh, I know! Let's make a new app to get more money if and when we make it a paid app.... Maybe?

I like the fact that it has emoji integration but the app itself looks hideous. It's attempt at trying to be holo looks like a crossbreed between sense and gingerbread. Nonetheless it works fine.

It may be good, but I'm always of the mind that if a native app does the trick without issues then why add apps that can misbehave or maybe cause battery drains. If I'm not happy with an app i look for a replacement but not if it works fine. That's just my preference.

Handcent for me. I have been using it for years. I like the customization by contact. You can have different notifications, fonts, backgrounds, sounds and vibrations for each individual. Very nice to know who texted you with customized notifications. I also like the Oops delay. You can set a lag from when you hit send until it sends.
All these features helps visually, physically and by sound who you are communicating with. Less likely to send the wrong text to the wrong person.

Sadly just using stock because at home I use WIFI calling all the time and stock is the only one that always works, all the time, with wifi calling.
But I do use SMS popup program so I get pop up notifications and a quick reply.

I won't use anything from CM these days. Not after what they did to some developers when they became Cyanogen Inc. They basically stole work of other people and left them out to dry. I used to use nothing but CM now, it's just not for me anymore.
Hangouts
I use hangouts, and love how they integrate SMS and Chats.
I had a question though, is there any way our SMSes can be integrated with Gmail Chats?
i.e. If you chat normally on Hangouts, it shows up in Chat history in my Gmail when I see in the browser.
It will be very convenient to have my SMS show up there as well, can search, copy, paste, archive and backup easily.
Anyone else with same thoughts?

Messaging Popup?

Since Sense 6's native messaging app doesn't have a built in popup notification (like CM, Handcent, Textra, ect), I'm looking for an alternative. Any suggestions? Every third party app I've tried is really outdated, and doesn't mark text as read because Kitkat 4.4 only allows the default messaging app to do that.

I used to cry out for people like HTC and Apple to include popup reply windows for SMS a few years back. Don't really care any more, though this might be because I use Whatsapp more than SMS. That includes a popup quick reply windows though and I never use it. The last one I did use was Chomp but that looks a bit dated now too. Suspect that development of SMS apps is slowing for whatever reason.

Textra is the best app out there IMO. Send and receives pictures like a phone is supposed to (actually shows each picture as opposed to a Slideshow) has delay sending, and many other features. Fair warning though they are moving from a free app to paid. But totally worth it in every way.

Textra or Google Messenger I think are the two best.
I ended up sticking with Google Messenger because Textra seemed to have trouble with different DPI's which I found a little weird. I think it has a few extra features that make it better the GM if that's not an issue for you.
Agreed. Textra is awesome. I love using the "giphy" attachments.
Though I'm content with the stock messaging app, if I wasn't using it I'd be used Google Messenger. It's nice and clean and I actually like its simplicity
