I want to Nandroid backup the new EZkat ROM and restore another nandroid backup of a different ROM. But I am wondering if it will "keep" root in the EZ Kat Nandroid? If I restore this EZ KAT Nandroid, would i have to reroot the Note 2?
I'm not real sure because this is the first ROM that I have had to re root. I don't really want to go through it again.
The other ROM is a nandroid of IOAP Kitkat 4.4.2 (AOSP ROM)
I use PhilzTouch CWM recovery.
A nandroid is an image of your system, and not just a copy of the files, so yes, when you restore, it will be as it was before.

Thanks Ranger. I was unsure. I've rooted many and this is a great ROM.
Sadly, I am a flashaholic.
I like to bounce back and forth between 2 ROMs:laugh:
Only two? You're not a flashaholic yet, but possibly mildly addicted.

Hey guys, this is a really simple question, but was not able to find a simple answer for this.
I'm running stock rooted and am thinking about trying a new ROM, the question is:
1) when I do a backup of current ROM through clockworkmod recovery, does this back up all my apps? or do I need to use mybackup pro or titanium to backup my apps as well as the clockwork backup?
2) if I decide that I do not like the new ROM, can I just go restore from clockworkmod and recover my old ROM (stock) or will I need to flash the RUU file to get back to stock?
Sorry for the noob type questions, just wanna make sure I am squared away to get into these custom ROMs

1) Your apps are backuped, it creates an exact image of your phone at that point. If you do a full wipe then thats when Titanium backup comes in handy.
2) Restoring a nand backup as long is the stock rom backup you want will get you back up and running.
You will need Titanium backup or mybackup if ur gonna flash a new ROM. The nandroid will backup apps, but only useful when you restore back to that nandroid. To restore ur apps after flashing a new ROM, you will need titanium.
Hey... I think this thing makes phone calls too!
I made a nandroid backup in clockwork of the stock rom. Since then I went to a custom rom. I was wondering if I could restore the backup while on a custom rom or if I have to go back to stock and then restore it.
2. How would I get back to stock if I needed to?
Thanks
Sent from my GNex running gummy v0.7.0
You can boot into cwm from your custom rom and use it to restore the nandroid backup which will take you back into the rom as it was when you backed it up.
I suggest you make a nandroid of your current setup before hand - one can never have too many backups!
I am running a 4.2.2 LiquidSmooth. I want to test something with my Stock Based ROM I was on before doing the 4.2.2 upgrade.
Can I do a wipe, and format, etc, then restore the Nandroid of 4.1.2, or do I need to do the ODIN restore of original factory ROM first?
I had thought that Nandroid was an 'Image', but I'm getting the feeling it is not really an image, and that if I do a Nandroid restore of it back to 4.1 it will cause problems.
Is your nandroid on your internal or external sd?

The safe way is to use Odin. But a Nandroid should work. Either way, you'll have to clear your device.

Ok. Thanks. I guess I'll give it a try.
I strongly suspect I'll just come back to the LiquidSmooth.
Since it's on your external you're all set. You'll have to wipe everything in order for this to work successfully. That includes formatting /system and /data.
Thanks, makes sense.
Lets say I am on a fairly stock rom and have a good TWRP backup and try a radically different rom (like a CM 10.x) and decide to go back to what I had before do I have to flash the old rom file then restore the back up file or can I just restore the TWRP backup?
You can just restore the backup but do a reset first. Eg wipe to install new rom

Hi - it depends on what you include in the backup on TWRP. If you select also Boot, System, Data and Recovery you will get back really everything you had. If you don't have a backup of EFS I would include that too. I did that quite often. When restoring backup you have also your old kernel/modem as it was working before. I never had bad experience with that. Whenever I'm now on CWM 6.0.3.5 as I'm using Android 4.3 (Probam 4.4).
Hi Friends,
i have a noob question about the EFS backup. So far i understand is the backup on 4.1.2 not compatible with 4.3 (new bootloader) b'coz it has a different folder path. What me makes scare is, i've read some posts from some users that they have no imei after official uptade with odin.
Why do i ask? I want to backup efs and flash the pre-rooted 4.3 rom without new bootloader b'coz i feel safer and the efs backup will work. But in my mind is to test the new 4.3 with new bootloader and knox (i know its not easy to get 4.1.2 back)
Is it really risky o are there some newbies wich makes mistakes? Can i paste the old backuped EFS folder in to the new path for correct imei?
I really searched on the forum also except XDA, but there are similar questions with different answers.
Thanks to all
I think that if you are worried about restoring, you should do a full nandroid backup to SD card from recovery. That way you don't need separate EFS backup as it is included in nandroid backup, so you can restore whole phone exactly as it was before.

1. Is EFS backup really included in CWMR or Philz Recovery?
2. Can i get back to 4.1.2 from 4.3 (new bootloader) only with an older NAND backup?

1. I don't think so. In Philz, efs backup option can be found in Custom Backup menu
Check this thread out for backing up EFS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389426
2. I did restore my 4.1.2 nandroid backup after flashed DN3 rom. It worked. But do efs backup for just in case.
