Can't root or install TWRP/CWM - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

So, I'm trying to root my T-Mobile T999 S3 using this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563955&highlight=failed
I'm on the "Flash (install) the Knox Remover zip" in the recovery menu step, and I keep getting the "supersu failed to verify whole-file signature" error. I also get that error when I try to install SuperSU.
I figured that I needed to use CWM or TWRP but I can't get them to install. Odin says PASS but when I press Home + Volume Up + Power, I still get to the old, stock recovery menu.
What do I do?
EDIT: I downloaded the root66_TMO_T999UVUENC2.7z ROM from this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687 and it has rooted my phone.
Should I keep it, is it the same?
Thanks.

Keep what? Your phone is rooted, isn't that what you wanted? If you want to use the Knox remover zip download and install flashify from the playstore and you can install twrp from there, after that boot into recovery and flash the zip

But that thread is from 2012. How is it that I downloaded a 2 year-old ROM and it kept my 4.3 and simply rooted it?
It feels like I just did a random thing and got the exact result I waned..

That's because the thread was updated recently to add the newer firmwares.

No.2 Here is the result from the Root checker app (weird) - i DID the root via SAFEROOT on this forums
No.3 While opening Super SU and trying to update
and then
and when choosing NORMAL
OR when chossin CWM option
And FINALLY AFTER REBOOTING THE PHONE
so, mages, sages and holy emissionaries from XDAfrorums, gather in this noble quest and preach me the truths and values of ROOTING MY NOTE 2
IMPORTANT BACKGROUND
When i was on STOCK 4.1.2 i ROOTED the phone with no problem via FRAMAROOT APPLICATION found on XDA,
After flashing with ODIN the 4.3, this sh*t started to appear..
go to recovery and flash SuperSU flashable package and you should be good to go
or just use this tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696
Does it matter that my phone isn't rooted after reboot?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Premium HD app
that is how I rooted my n7100 from stock:
1. flashed recovery via Odin 3.09
2. go to recovery and install SuperSU1.65.zip
3. boot back to stock ROM and run SuperSU - you can update binaries
4. backup EFS and whatever I needed
5. install triangle away apk, run it, reboot
6. flash custom ROM via TWRP recovery

[Q] Sprint gs3 4.4 / ND8 root problems

Alright folks, I'm losing my mind here...
I recently flashed the ND8 stock and am attempting to get root using the CF auto root. Odin tells me that everything has has finished properly. When I restart the phone the auto-root appears to complete, then the phone restarts. Root checker says no root.
I have tried different cables, usb ports, computers. I have had odin's auto restart checked and unchecked, flashed philz recovery. USB debug is on. Still no root! What am I doing wrong? I'm not a noob, nor am I a dev, but this is the first time in 6 six different phone models that I have failed to get root by following the directions provided by those smarter than me.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Sorry, but I've never used cf autoroot.
I would:
Flash the latest Philz.
Go into "philz settings" and click "re_root system (supersu)"
If the above doesn't work, search the Web and download update_supersu_. Zip (actual file name will include version #)
Go back into philz and flash the su file.
If SuperSU crashes after attempting to open, go to Google store and "update" SuperSU.

nice to hear that it worked but if someone is looking and for whatever reason they don't want to use odin i have confirmed that Towel Root app will work on stock 4.4.2
I used cf auto root to root my phone, I had to do it a few times to make it stick.

Yes, you can.
Method 1:
The safest way is to fully unroot (using supersu)
But firstly, you've to resent counter via triangleaway. Install app from appstore and press reset counter.
Once it is reset, uninstall the Triangle away from app drawer.
Use fully unroot option in supersu.

After that, It is recommended to do a factory reset and wipe cache partition. However it is not necessary.
NOW You will have unrooted 4.1.2
Use OTA update to upgrade to 4.4.2.
To root 4.4.2 follow the instructions in the link given below:
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/root-galaxy-note-2-n7100-android-4-4-2-kitkat-install-philz-recovery-144789
Method 2:
Download 4.4.2 firmware for your region on Sammobile website.
Flash the file using ODIN 3.09. Dump ur file in AP tab and start. Make sure only auto reboot and f.reset time are checked. Start it. After d process is completed you will get a pass message.
Done. Now you are on 4.4.2.
To root follow the link mentioned before.
Don't forget to press thumbs up if u found my suggestions helpful.

Error after rooting

Hi,
Sorry for creating a new thread. I asked the question in other ones but got no answer.
I tried to root my p5200 on 4.4.2 (details in screen shot)

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

}
I followed the thread over here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531784
But no matter which recovery i use, i get a error regarding binaries not installed. (Reflashing didnt work)
So this is what i did.
I installed the twrp recovery with "auto reboot" unchecked. After the procees i pressed volume up and power button together while still in download mode.
Got in to recovery, for some reason it was extremely laggy, but i manged to install the root file stored in the internal sd card.
Successfully flashed, but when i goto the superuser app i get this message
" Error: The su binary is necessary to update! Click to install
Error during in the installation...Please send the error report to the developers!"
I reflashed, wiped dalvik and cache but nothing worked.
I odin installed philz recovery and flashed another root file but still the same
"There is no su binary installed and superuser cannot install them. This is a problem"
Lastly, i odin flashed cf auto root. Flashing was successful, but the tab gets stuck in the boot logo.
Where am i going wrong?
Thanks
Umn.... What do you mean by root files? Superuser flashable zip? If flashing superuser zip didn't work, then try flashing SuperSU

Probably the simplest way is to install a custom recovery with Odin and then flash the SuperSu.apk with that recovery.
TWRP for the i747M; use this file -- twrp-2.8.7.0-d2can.img.tar 8.5M
Stable SuperSu the recovery flashable download is near the bottom of the OP
Flash TWRP with Odin, Use TWRP to flash SuperSU ZIP (not APK like above).
If twrp fails to mount system and or won't wipe (bootloop) then you may want to use a different recovery.
Every post seems to recommend twrp but it didn't work right on two d2att devices. I'm not super genious but I been having root on every device I have since about 2011. Its not a user error.

I'm using philztouch. Ported by RoryB. It works excellent with both devices. Just my two cents.
I did it with Odin. It works OK now.
