I don't care about warranty anyhow but my phone has the knox tripped. My question is how to get past the boot sequence when it complains about the kernel.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
It shouldn't get stuck there, can you explain what you did?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Right now I have stock rooted nb4. If I put non stock rom on it stops and wont boot past Samsung screen. So I went back to stock and rooted. This knox bootloader crap has me considering selling and getting a HTC.

That has nothing to do with Knox bootloader.. what ROM were you trying to flash, and did you factory reset?

He's right about not having to do with knox. You either are forgetting to factory reset, not flashing a kernel(or the right one) or flashing the wrong ROM for our device.

Changed recovery to phil's and loaded vision nb4 with the kt4.4 kernel. Everything good now. Thanks.

It doesnt matter if he uses Triangle Away right now, he has TWRP on it. Until he is 100% stock + rooted it will always say modified.

I'm 100% stock+rooted and it says under status that my phone is custom. Even After using triangle away. If I want to get the OTA update I'm gonna have to ODIN flash a stock firmware.

In triangle away check the box for 'System Modified Workaround', After a reboot it disables root for a few minutes, it should say Official after that.
What kind of recovery do you have? Stock?

Flash stock recovery (I think there is an Odin file floating around) then use triangle away. Should reset you back. The bootloader is running a check on the recovery at boot. If it doesn't match a certain value (I think it checks the signature) then it trips the counter.

Might not even matter, but just in case, do triangle away before you flash to stock. That's the way I've been told to do it, and its safer I guess.

Whoops. I actually responded to this post, buy I guess I quoted it.
To be safe, I'd use triangle away right before you flash you stock ROM. That's the way I was told to do it, and worked without a hitch. Plus, it's way easier.

Quite possibly the easiest thing to find. Use Google or YouTube and type in "how to unroot TMobile S4."
All the instructions give you links to the official stock Roms.

I have to reset my phone to send it in for warranty work. Can anybody link me to the factory image, preferably on a host with better than dial-up speeds? I keep trying the one in the sticky but since it goes through a BS host that wants a "premium" membership the download keeps ending prematurely.
Thanks

Buddy,
If you flashed anything, even once, it will show.
This phone has a counter.
I just went through this.
So if you just reflash stock, they will know and your guarantee will be voided !!!

Use Triangle-Away to reset the flash counter before you return to stock and it's all good.

Go to sammobile.com you can find alk the firmware there. Also before you odin flash stock do triangle away to reset counter. Because you need root for that.
My counter keeps saying 2 no matter what I try I followed the instructions. Help?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 2
Post what ROM you're on.
Triangle Away says it's always best to do it on a stock ROM.
Had the same problem, but there is a guide in the general section on how to unroot..... by DJ intrique (hope I spelled right). I followed that and worked beautifully.

Backup your current ROM.
Flash back to stock ROM and stock kernel. Even the debloated stock ROMs you find in the dev section should work,
Run triangle away.
Verify it worked.
Restore your backed up ROM.
Should take 10 minutes for this whole process, not counting the time to download the stock ROM.
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.
So after all that can I go back to my custom rom doing a re store?

Yup.
The counter only goes up when you flash something through Odin. If you reset it to 0 and flash 500 things from Recovery, the flash counter still stays at 0.
So if I wanted to Un root and return to stock how would I do that without tripping the flash counter don't I have to Odin?

Flash stock in odin.
Root.
Run triangle away to reset counter.
Uninstall triangle away.
Open SuperUser and click the untoot option.
Reboot.
You now have a stock phone.

You need the stock kernel & stock recovery I believe. CF Auto Root gives you just that and makes the process very simple.

Good thread:good:

Ok guys, new to this phone, just came from an xperia z. I've been doing some reading and i'm a little bit lost.
So far I have my phone on 4.2.2, never been updated, and i have it rooted and running clockworkmod as a recovery.
I have a few questions before I do anything, i've been reading about KNOX and i'm a bit confused. Does KNOX come back when you update to a different rom? When I fired up SuperSU for the first time it asked me if I wanted to disable KNOX features, and it did so successfully. My question is, is there anything to look out for before updating?
I'd have a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2546024

If you update via OTA, your bootloader will come with a KNOX counter, which cannot be reset at the moment. If you flash anything when you have that, it will trip the counter and your warranty is voided.
I'd suggest flashing a 4.3 or 4.4 rom if you wanna update it, then flash the MK2 modem to get normal signal.

Ok, I do not care about any warranty, I take care of my electronics. Not trying to be rude, but i wanted to clear that up. I know warranty is out the window at this point.
So I can update to just about any rom, but i would have to flash the MK2 modem right after to fix signal problems?
Sorry for so many questions, but i guess I am a bit late getting into the S4 game.
Yes, that's right. Beware of potential issues though, some people have reported the modem didn't stick when they flashed it. It went fine for me and most people, but I just wanna give you a heads up.
And somehow flashing rom with Odin always causes issues for me. TWRW is the best!

I'm not planning on flashing roms through ODIN, just the modem.
So if i flash this now, its SUPPOSED to stick onto the phone even if i fluctuate through different roms?
Also, if i install a rom that says knox-free i would be able to flash it no problem right?
Yes. You only need to flash the modem once. All the custom roms on here are KNOX free, so no worries there.

Great. Thank you for the help! I just flashed the modem and its showing mk2 in the baseband version, so i guess it went through. It had the 4.2.2 bootloader, not the 4.3.
So just to clarify, now that it has this installed I'm free to install any custom rom I want?

I take care of my S4 too, and I still avoid Knox like the plague. I'm sure the next person to own this phone will appreciate it.
Anyway, you might consider installing Mobile Odin from the Play Store. I've flashed a couple roms that caused my baseband to show as unknown and using MO to reflash the MK2 modem was insanely more convenient than using Odin on my PC.
Is it possible, or will this just brick the phone?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
If you took the OTA to 4.3 you cannot use Odin to go back to previous versions. You can root and flash any version you want, as long as you aren't trying to go backwards with the bootloader, aka mk3 bootloader > md4, etc.
As metalfN78 said, yes it will brick your phone If you use Odin. You can flash ANY version through recovery though.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Damn, I didn't accept the ota on my s3, but my wife did
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
You can still flash previous versions of Android on hers, just not with Odin. As long as you are using a custom recovery and flash roms then it is alright.
But won't custom recovery/rooting trip the Knox warranty bit?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Yea
Oh well, that'll teach her to not accept ota updates unless she checks with me first
