New to the HTC M8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone,
As you can tell by the title, im new to this thread. I have a AT&T variant and was wondering there isn't much on the carrier specific thread. So does that mean that the mods and roms here work for it too? or the ones in the carrier specific site are the only ones.
I just want to make sure before i root and go on a crack-flashing marathon.
Thanks in advance

I'm looking to just root right now. Are OTA updates from HTC or carriers (Rogers) possible with root?

Not with a custom recovery. I suggest running a custom stock ROM. Usually within a couple days, those ROM's are usually updated to include the OTA's.

Root doesn't affect OTA, make sure you have stock recovery and firmware/system, might have to reroot afterwards ?

Jb upgrade advice

Hi all... Stupid question time,
I've only got into custom roms etc and I'm running black ice at the moment.
I fancy a look at jelly bean so is it as simple as revert back to ics via my backup and ota update?
Will it matter that I'm rooted and have an unlocked bootloader?
Cheers in advance.

No. The OTA update will not work unless you are running IMM30D (which I doubt your backup is). Easiest way, just flash a fully-functioning custom JB stock rom. There are more than a few found in the development sections of this forum.

Cheers Anton I'll start hunting... Anyone recommend any simple ones.. As I said I'm new to this.
Most popular one seems to be this one for GSM.

Lovely job... Cracking bloke.. Thanks for your time mate.
Just had a look... Could be way above my level at the moment... Didn't mind flashing blackice as it was quite simple... This looks quite deep or am I reading it wrong?

Getting rid of branding

Hi all,
sorry for my lack of knowledge, I'm a brand new HTC One X owner. I'd like to have the very standard software (ICS in this case) without the branding of T-Mobile. I've bought my phone in Poland (Europe Version).
Any step-by-step tutorials in here? I surely don't want to brick my new phone
not 100% sure on this but think only one way to debrand that is to unlock bootloader and root then install custom rom could be wrong tho

Well, I've got no problem with unlocking the bootloader etc. but I would like to have the normal ICS with HTC's Sense on the phone rather than some cyanogenmod or something along those lines. If anyone can help me out with the needed files and a step-by-step how-to (I'm not dumb when technology is involved, but I have absolutely no contact with the moding scene of Smartphones).

I think ARHD is meant to be pretty close to the standard sense experience. Cyanogen is a good release though, but maybe wait until its more stable on one x?

I recommend arhd it is stock with some tweaks

While i might instal this rom one day, I'd like to give the stock version a try. I don't want all the bull**** from t-mobile though The bootanimation alone is kinda ruining the experience for me

ARHD is a stock Rom tweaked to make it even better. you will find it much better, that is the only way to remove it, or rooting and flashing another boot animation
Easiest way I found was to unlock bootloader, root then delete all the carrier bloat you don't want and then flash a new bootanimation

Since you still opt for ICS the ARHD is the best alternative choice! Just search the thread on the XDA Developer you'll find it.
I have a T-Mob as well but flashed on CM10 for JellyBean and so far works great!

[Q] strange idea! would it work

Since Verizon is several updates behind on the CDMA nexus. I read an article that said it was possible to update to 4.2. Using the unlocked version of the the software. Any thoughts
What do you mean? You want to install a 4.2 stock ROM on your CDMA VZW GNEX?
If so, are you new?

please wait for VZW to update your device's software.
I'm gonna but I saw the idea on an article and just wondered if it'd work. I'm fairly new to xda the Gnexus is my 2nd android coming from an HTC incredible 1
Yessir, you can have 4.2 on the VZW Gnex. Problem is, if you have to ask.
Go to the VZW dev forum, read the stickies, read them all. Find a 4.2 ROM, read at least the first few pages of the thread. If you have developed an understanding of all that you need to do to get 4.2, then good luck. If you read and still do not understand, then you need to keep reading until you do. If you keep reading and still do not understand, then you will want to just wait until it's made available OTA.
I got pretty good understanding of the process need to put a ROM on it. I'm gonna wait for the ota though. I'm pretty satisfied with 4.1 stock with an unlocked bootloader

Is there a particular forum for the htc m9 dev edition?

I've been stuck on the verizon s3 for a couple of years and I finally bought a new phone. Naturally I had to get the developers edition of the HTC One m9. So I am wondering if their is a specific forum for our phones? Or do I just flash a rom according to whatever SIM card I'm using that day?
Also even though it was purchased as a developers edition, can flashing the wrong kernal get me stuck with a locked bootloader again?

Your in the right forums for your Developer Edition M9, Are you still with Verizon ?
I have a bit of a repository for the DE stuff here >> https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=28823
Any of the Roms in the Developer forums will work fine on your phone, I have tried Leedroid / ViperOneM9 / Stock with Goodies / and ARHD
with no problems.
I would be interested in knowing how you can get Verizon to work on a GSM phone if that is the case.

Awesome, thanks for the link!
I am still with verizon! tried the vzw sim to no avail and so far my m9 is just looking pretty. am still using my vzw s3 with no power button. I may go out today and get a t-mobile Sim card. I am definately dragging my feet because verizon does have the best coverage. But I will also find out if I SIM unlocked the s3. After the power button broke I went crazy with a few dialer code apps and I got to a point where I could manually input APN's. If that's the case I may invest a few bucks to have it fixed.
I was looking at you nicely organized repository and noticed you had a copy of the stock recovery. May I ask what you used to back it up?

LeeDroid is a nice Sense based Rom, lots of tweaks and very stable/bug free and includes his own custom kernel

Just curious, what rom are you currently using?

Anyone know if I already get them to the developer edition the update 1.40.401.8 ?????
Can you rephrase your question? I'm not sure what you're asking.
If you are asking about the 1.40.xx than as far as I know it is firmware for the international version. However you can flash it in Order to run some custom roms. I'm currently using it on my dev edition in order to run viper one.

How Do You Install AOSP On VZW HTC 10?

Hey guys, I saw a thread a while back and I can't find it now but it was a method to get AOSP onto the VZW HTC 10. It involved adding some files into the radio or firmware or something along those lines. If anyone could point me to that thread or a tutorial on getting AOSP on my VZW 10 that would be awesome. Thanks!

S-off is needed if have a Verizon 10, it's the only way of flashing anything on it as Verizon disables bootloader unlocking by default on their devices.
But even sprint says have to be soff and do a firmware with no radio then u can use aosp I'm on sprint I just say that every aosp for spr and vzw need soff

This was fixed just a few days ago, see post #5 above. @tabp0le found a solution for the firmware problem affecting Sprint/Verizon users. S-off/modified firmware is no longer required. All ROMs built after April 28 should boot for all users thanks to https://review.lineageos.org/#/c/170030/
