Do you use a case? - Moto G Accessories

I currently just have a screen protector on mine with the royal blue back.
I bought an incipio ngp case but i find the color doesnt shine through and the phone feels ALOT better without a case.
Generally not a clumsy person so im not too worried about falls.

No, desnecessary

I bought a simple cheap silicone case and it saved my phone 5 times already (at least). So yeah my phone would be broken by now if I didn't get that case
Inviato dal mio XT1032

I ended up bying a $18 trident case. It kind of sticks in my pocket a bit now, and really I prefer the phone naked, but I tend to drop my phone enough that I'm just going to make myself get used to this. The fit is fine and all the buttons work great still, I just don't like the fact that it sticks coming out of my pocket, but it's a tradeoff.

I'm having a fosmon hybird case. I can say if I didn't have it my phone would b broken.

i always use my phones completely naked, nor the screen or the back has any scratches and i have it since last december, not to mention its a sub-200 dollar phone, while of course its money it doesnt cost 600 or more like some phones out there, if i had one of those i would but not on this one

Is this the one you are talking about? I am getting a Moto G Friday and this is one of the only cases that jumped out at me. I'd prefer a holster because I want a bulkier case (I drop my phone a lot) and don't want a bulky case in my pocket. The few reviews on this seems like it is a great deal and people are genuinely pleased, but there are only 4 reviews and a lot of these cheaper cases seem to have bogus reviews. I fish a lot and use my phone to take pictures of the days catch, so a rugged case is nearly a must, but I don't want to spend an arm and a leg if I don't have to. it's not like I throw my phone at things.

No I am using the hyposnap one but this seems really better than what I have now. I am considering ordering it right now. The hypo snap is a 2 piece of rubber and plastic back. It well protected both back and screen of my phone till now.

No

Use black bumper + xtreme guard full body :highfive:

Although I don't use an actual case, I still protect my Moto G with a tempered glass protector. I also applied a Dbrand black titanium skin to the stock black cover to give the phone a premium feel and grip.

naked
usally i dont like to use any case to my fone.. i love naked , yeah m dirty ROFL

Only when I go like on a run I use the incipio case

I use a Ringke Slim case and a screen protector.
The screen protector seems a bit unnecessary, I've seen tests in youtube of people trying to scratching it with knives and failing
The case... saved me a bunch of times, I'm a bit clumbsy.

A case is cheap insurance. While I have never dropped my phone from my hand, I have placed the phone in my shirt pocket, at some time bent over and the phone hit the deck on a few occastions. Another thing to consider is other people handling your phone. Some people are responsible and will do the right thing while others could care less. Of course this situation can be eliminated by not allowing anyone to touch your phone. Overall, a case gives me peace of mind and a lot less things to worry about. And no additional expense in insurance.

I initially used a belt pouch with a velcro starting with my dumbphones up to the Nexus S. Worked well, never dropped the phone in a way that damaged it.
I changed my mind and got an OtterBox Defender for my Note 2, and subsequently another one for the Moto G because I started using public transit again for my commute. All it takes is some dumb jerk with an oversize backpack to bump the phone out of your hands and onto terrazzo, tile or concrete. Holster-style cases work well for my needs.

When cycling I keep my Moto in my jersey pocket. I have a cheap silicon skin, then slip the skinned phone into a waterproof zip-lock bag designed to take your phone into the pool. I do the same when going to the beach, as I don't imagine sand is good for the phone. The rest of the time, no case.

Used My GN For The First Time Without The Case...

It's almost perfect. Been inside the TPU since minute one and I cleaned her today. Looking at it and holding the GN caseless was incredible. Slim, thin. Only quibble is that it can be a tad slippery. I'm way to chicken to use it without a case on a regular basis.
Any go GN nude all the time?
I do Why hide such a beauty? The screen is good enough to resist scratches and the back is really good too. After 7 - 8 months if I do notice some wear and tear, I can just order another through eBay for 15 bucks or so..
I got mine yesterday and I don't use a case. I dropped it onto concrete from about 2 feet and it sustained no damage.
Using mine without a case too. I find putting a case on it just ruins the aesthetics and makes the phone thicker.
I get that people use cases for protection, and one thing i can say is that samsung phones are built to be really durable. I dropped my samsung nexus s countless times and it still worked like a champ.
The galaxy nexus feels even more durable so no worries here.
Using mine without a case. I hate cases. Ruin the feel and design of the device. I did order a sleeve (like the one that came with the Nexus One) off ebay. I just need something to protect it while in my pocket. Not worried about drops.
I've never had a case on any of my phones. I'm really careful and I've only dropped a phone once. I think cases make the phone look generic. With that said, being the GN is large and a little slick to handle I decided to get the diztronic case. Plus I wanted to protect my $730 investment.
Its a nice case but it only lasted for about 5 hours before I whipped it off.
Cases just aren't for me I guess!

This is the one I bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAP...2&ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:US:1123#ht_2629wt_1163
But the listing ended. I emailed the seller when the first listing ended and said I wanted to buy one and he gave me that listing. So it's worth a shot if you're interested.
Caseless here. I just have the protection film on the bottom and sides of the back to protect against scratches.
I'm caseless here as well. Most devices feel the best when you use them without cases.
It's like going condomless. You're more prone to bad stuff but you get to feel it best ;p
But make sure you put screen protection film on. My screen scratched quite badly already. It's pretty hard to notice, but make sure you take a good look at your phone screen under bright light perhaps halogen lights and you'll see all those scratches!
i also go caseless- i put a case on when i am at the gym but thats the only time i use one- i have a screen protector but thats it...
Using mine nude since I got the phone 2 weeks ago. Although seriously thinking of putting a screen protector

Caseless here too. I used to own an iPhone with an Otterbox Defender, and after that, I hated how clunky phones got with cases. These phones are designed to be sleek, and I feel like you take that away when you slap a piece of black TPU or silicone on it.
I'm case-less, except for a screen protector from Zagg. Bought a Diztronic case but it hasn't arrived yet.

Have the Matte one myself. It's a fine TPU product. Caseless though this thing feels like a slab from the future. I wish I wasn't chicken.
I clicked this thread expecting a horror story. "I took the case off, and I dropped it the first day..."
Anyways, if I buy the Galaxy Nexus, I'll probably use it careless. Unlike my stupidly built iPhone, I could actually set the phone down on a table, or drop it, without too much of a problem.
Don't use a case, but I do have it in a pouch. I think its the best of both worlds.. protected from dust and keys and bumps while in my pocket, but looking good when its out and being used!
i dont use a case, i'm currently looking for a pouch so i can sling it in my gym bag though.
My phone is always commando why hide it under a case.

To Case or Not To Case...

So I got a regular rubber case with my Nexus (assuming it would add the least amount of thickness) and I always use cases with my phones but I'm noticing that it really increases the thickness and feel of the phone, which I dislike.
How many of you are and aren't using cases and what is your reasoning for each?
Should I risk not using a case or should I just suck it up?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I'm not using a case, and my only reasoning is that I haven't found one I like yet. This thing has flown out of my hands inadvertently so many times, I will probably be getting the sylicrilic from VZW just to have something on it until I find what I'm looking for. If I can ever figure out what that is.
I just ordered the Diztronic TPU that everyone is talking about. Hopefully I'll like that one better than the one that I got from Verizon earlier today...

No case for me yet. I also haven't found one I like. I'm really attracted to the nekkid look though.
I'm generally a nekkid guy. Dropped my precious today and the plastic back is VERY susceptible to scratches. Reconsidering my no case choice but love this phone as is.

I use a case but...
A scratch on the body won't bother me as much as a scratch on the glass, so I would definitely use a SP if nothing else, but that's just me.
But I want mine in pristine condition for when I sell it and get my Galaxy Note II
I'm definitely getting a case. I never did mind a bulky phone ( I used to have a n900 with an otterbox on.. That thing was a tank, in both size and durability)
Got a case.
This phone with such a large glass and slender body to go along with it feels like it would fall apart if I ever dropped it. Maybe it isn't so but handling something this expensive/large/slender needs some protection for me to freely use it with peace of mind.
I'm using a temporary Case-Mate Barely There case along with no screen protector right now and I'm very antsy when handling my phone. So much so that it's a hassle.
Got the Diztronic case too and will be using Ghost Armor when they finally have the product line.
I had my wife buy the phone AND an Otterbox when she went to vzw... I have had OBs on all my phones and will keep doing so. Sure you can get it cheeper online but I pulled the phone out of the box put the 4g card on then put it in th OB!!!! And that is where it will stay!!!
I don't care about maintaining the cheap plastic backplate much to justify for a case, but I got myself a Silicone case from Verizon anyway because I don't want to scratch the camera lense when laying the phone on the table.
Diztronic rocks. I have a bse full body shield on and the case fits with that too. Scratch proof and protected. Love it

heres one thing i don't get from you guys that go naked. what about the effin camera in the back!? you realize every time you place it on a surface you're landing it flat on the plastic of the camera?
I never wanted to go no case but since my Desire, I've preferred the pouches just because it doesn't add to the size of the phone, and then you don't have to worry about anything hitting it. But I think this phone is just too large to use a pouch with. I bought a Nokia-brand pouch that fits my Nexus, but it hangs out the top by half a centimetre. Not a problem because it's not loose in the case itself, but it's still not the best situation.
One of the main reasons why I prefer the pouches is because then I don't have to worry about a screen protector, but I've already got a nick on my Nexus' glass, so I'll probably wear an SP and a case all the time.

i've never used one of these, just looked into it, cause you posted it. Going to have to look into it more now.
good choice. i expect this case to b great because their silicon cases are the best to me. they just stretch after awhile. like any other silicone. but that case isn't rubber. btw, Rearth reached out to me and let me know the case fits both GSM and LTE models.
I dropped my phone within 24 hours of getting it. It left 2 quite big marks on the body. The plastic body is pretty soft and can be easily damaged.
I now have a replacement and put in case striaght away. But it does feel so much slimmer and nicer without a case
do you find excessive dust with an otterbox? seems like my G-nex is totally prone to dust. otherwise i love the case, makes the phone a little easier actually for me to hold without getting the feeling like it might just slip out of my hand.
BSE body skin and XO skin screen cover here.

Any other (device) nudists here?

For a while now, it has seemed like i am the only nudist when it comes to devices. Specifically since the iPhone 3G came out, practically no one *DOESN'T* have some huge ugly bulky plastic monstrosity on their device.
I have had several smartphones (see sig), and have never used a case or screen protector with them. I have also never dropped one; i know what i paid for it, i know what will happen if i drop/smack it, and i know what a pain in the rear setting up a new one would be. I take care of my equipment (i also work in HD productions and have lots of photo/video/audio gear, equipment, and rigs). I hate the otterbox or similar ones (remind me of coffins) and i've seen people crack screens or damage their devices with them on, or simply fall apart in a year. i also hate the feel of screen protectors, and how they affect what should be a fantastic tactile UI experience.
I am not above using one, specifically with this device, as it is very slippery like the iPhone 3G was, but i can't find anything remotely close to what i'm after, which is basically a tight white condom, so i am a nudist. I did have a silicone case on the iPhone for all of 2 days, mostly because my then-GF had bought me the device and case, before i removed it. With the Atrix, the AT&T salesman literally freaked when i said 'i don't use cases'; he told me i would break it in a month. It just started having digitizer dead spots. My GF and i travel extensively for work and fun; we are both device nudists; she's still rockin' her Atrix, and hers had fallen from her purse a few times with no harm done thus far. My Atrix has been to and used on five (counting Turkey as *technically* Asia, and middle east as Africa) continents, the iPhone came with me when i lived in France in 2009, and even the HTC Tilt/8925 made it to Europe and back a few times, back when WinMo6.1 was still kickin' it (Cube .cab!) Point is, crazy high/low temperatures, crazy humidity or totally dry, low pressure, high pressure, whatever.
Basically just wondering what the point of buying a device so light, so thin, and with gorilla glass, if you are going to immediately throw on a thick fat heavy case and a screen protector that is both prone to scuffing and dampens the UI experience. Since the iPhone in '09, i haven't had a laptop and now with Android certainly don't need one; usually all i carry is my mobile, wallet (hope to ditch that soon too), smokes/lighter, and keys. Shoot, half the time i carry only smokes/lighter, mobile, and single car/house/hotel/etc key; and leave everything else.
Of everyone i know, only a surgeon friend of mine became a 'nudist' (he prefers the term 'purist') since we had met; he still has his iPhone 3G.
Any other 'purists'/'nudists' out there?

because i would love to find a very thin, silicone based flexible case to use mostly so the phone isnt so slippery. literally condom thin. i just dont like accessories that turn the phone into some sort of isometric brick. if a superthin skin existed i would have bought and used it on every device. instead its all hard plastic/rubber/thick silicone. and all my searches have turned up nil.
haha same as you man . with my s1 I used a case for abt a year then took it off as the phone became less valuable (and was a bit roughed up anyway). same with the screen protector. since then I've dropped it a hundred times without cracking the screen (almost all the silver bezel is chipped off lol). the only mod I did was replace the back cover for a colorful fake yelliw one (better grip, less greasy/smudgy).
I've had my s3 for abt 2 weeks and its been sweet. seeing as its already significantly bigger than the s1, I couldnt bear to put a big case on. however, I was interested in the slim flip cover that replaces the battery door - it seems like a good way to protect the screen a little. I have ordered a fake one for abt 5 bucks on eBay, yet to arrive, but maybe you should check it out? the reason I'm going fake first is that the real one is pricey, and I dont know how practical it will actually be yet.

me to, like phone without case.. but sometime texting in crowded place need more safety..
so i buy GUM for iphone and handlinker for safety, so my phone didnt slip from my hand
I used to use an n8 and that phone was a unbreakable machine, dropped that phone so many times and not one crack on my screen and only small scruff marks on the corners of the back original case (never used protection for it)
The original cover was a thick and sturdy case that protected the device from falling and did its job well.
When I got my s3 after seeing how thin the back was and how easily it would come off if it fell and doubted it would protect the glass the first thing I did was buy a case.
Cause I'm a bit clumsy sometimes

I'm not using one right now, but I have 2 cases in the mail. Kids in my town think it's fun to snatch phones (I don't live in a bad neighborhood just some bad kids pass through here) and the extra grip that my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket case provided foiled a would be thief's snatch and run. Not to mention that I have sweaty hands so not having a case for a long time will be my own demise.

Why not actually use a condom, one of the non-lubed ones.
If the condom is transparent enough and doesn't interfere with the touch screen, then it's the way to go, isn't it?
At least, now that Android viruses (virii?) are starting to appear, you'll be protected!

Has anyone checked out IZag it's a thin clear protective skin I had it on the screen of my old att tilt for over two years and never scratched or scuffed it I think they make it for the whole phone now my one friend said best buy puts it on for you and gives you a warranty on the protection if it peels off he had a I phone though but I'm sure they would make it for our phone to. I'm the same way with my phone. I like it the way it comes - slim and beauitful - and just wanted a minimalist case with good impact protection. Couldnt be happier with this case. It fully protects from any angle, and is rigid yet cushioned. It has thick clothlike material glued on both sides of a hard plastic core giving it a gauze bandage type of feeling. Imagine several bandages stacked together on a piece of hard plastic, this is the way it feels. Very shock absorbant. Yet the whole thing is like 1-2 millimeters thick, and you can see how minimalist it is.
I posted some pics and comments about it in a separate thread but not too many people were interested. It's too bad because this is an excellent case and people are really missing out. It doesnt look like much, but man its beautiful and oh so effective.
Dont buy the white one. It has white rubber adhesive along the edges that gets a little dirty. The black one though... Really loving it. It looks better in real life than in the picture. I have a black carbongrip with a white sprint SGS3, never plan to look at another case again.
all i am going to recommend is Wrapsol. IMO, best skin. texture is way better than Zagg IS or any other skin i've dealt with. It is on all of my products (iphone, macbook pro, ipad, galaxy s2) because i dont like cases. no orange peel. good grip for the back. very thin. gives it a matte look. they have replaced my lifted skin for free.
however the one they sell is for the s3 is the international version. theres a cutout in the middle for the Samsung brand. you can always buy an OEM internationally battery cover for cheap and apply it to that and use it on your carrier version.
www.wrapsol.com
I recommend you look at DBA cases. I have the Ultra and I think it's THIN! I have a white S3 and went all white (TPU & PCU). It looks like I don't even have a case on. If you want thinner, I don't own it but from the picture that was posted on here, the DBA Thin is thinner than the Ultra. I originally had a UAG case which I thought was thin. I went with the Ultra instead of the Thin due to the drop protection. The Ultra supposedly has the same drop protection as the UAG. Holding the Ultra in hand, it really is hard to believe it could protect from a drop, but it does.
I like the feel of the phone sans case, but there is always a part of me that worries about that one drop. So I opted for a case that added minimal bulk to the phone whilst giving me the benefit of a kickstand (I travel for work. Need to watch some movies.)
Body Glove Elite case
YUP...I never liked the thought of a case on such nice looking devices. But now I have a thin one.
Why I bought a thin case?
- so I don't have to continually wipe finger prints
- when I lay my S3 on it's back, it doesn't wobble nor touch the camera lens housing
- grip...extremely important (mine has cross hatching on the back)
- the beveling on the edges on a stock S3 when squeezed by your hand, tends to force the phone to spit OUTWARDS out of your hand! On the Htc HD2 I own, it is the opposite angle, the harder you gripped, the more it will snuggle into your hand.
- never really liked the high gloss pebble blue that much, so my case (no pun intended) I now have a dark charcoal matte finish.
- Oh and how about protection? Even the worst case adds some layer of protection. Even just laying the S3 down on a surface day in and day out can eventually lead to scuffs....obviously.
I searched again today for an hour and still cannot find something that is basically just a very thin silicone jacketing; just enough to enhance grip, protect the screen and finish, and yet keep it thin, light, and elegant.
A nudist i shall continue to be, i guess.
I Love my Galaxy s3 nude! so smooth .. so soft. I tried a few cases and screen protectors but had to go back in the nude

I considered a case but i don't want to lug around a brick..
I put a screen protector on it.. which is delectably useful. LOL
I figure it could save some scratches potentially.
But i got a black-leather belt clip phone holder from Wallmart that fits perfectly.
Good for listening to music when roaming around on a bike etc
I also just pulled mine out and for the first time in 1 year of owning it i dropped it
It bounced super mega hard on the concrete 3 times and landed face down.
I must have hit the sides then it rested face down.
I picked it up and the band around it started to separate..
So i blew any dirt off it then clicked it back in place and plugged my headphones back in..
Worked fine still ..music did not stop playing
Later i looked at it and i had no scratches at all anywhere but two micro pin prick gouges into the outer replaceable rubber band thing that comes off.
I have a spare too in case i need it ever.
So i was impressed.. she is a trooper of a machine !
I played basketball with it on Concrete and it did nothing
..with no case.
I also had debated before on pulling off my protector film on the glass.
But i just feel better having it on there.. maybe a security thing in my head.
It would suck to have the glass scratched.
There is other options though people.
When i go around town i see 99.99% of all people doing the same thing.
Everyone has their phones in cases which add to the bulky size of it.
Especially those iPhone users.. looks like they have massive thick huge bricks in their hand.
Then i pull mine out and it's like half the width LOL
And far faaaaaaaar cheaper.
I just wanted to offers some other ideas.
Also i looked at the picture and the case does seem sort of thin, so that is cool.
And i was just being careless when i dropped my phone.
Where do you put your phone people ? In your pocket ?
That to me seems like a far bigger risk than anything else.
Easier to sit on it or get crap in the holes or put your keys / change in there to scratch it up etc.
My belt-clip has it kept safe & secure and clean and accessible.
Just some thoughts

[Q] Do you feel like a case is necessary?

I am thinking about getting a case for my phone, but I also want to get the leather back, but it seems like a waste to put a case over the leather back. Do you guys think a case is necessary to protect the phone?
It is a waste if choosing a back case. But a hybrid kickstand case is a good choice for your g4.
have you considered a bumper case so you get the best of both worlds?

get a bumper.
you won't have to worry if you drop your phone on the front, sides or the corners, and your leather would get as much wear as if you're going naked.
Yeah I didn't even think of a bumper. Can you guys suggest some good ones?
yes, case is necessary for me. and i am using a wallet type leather case and it's function is useful for me.
A case is not necessary if you're careful in general. That's me, but dropping your phone is practically inevitable. If I don't drop it, someone will do it for me.
Naked is always the prettiest choice, but you gotta protect your investment.
I bought a bumper, the QuickCircle, and a wallet case by Goospery.
I dig the aluminium bumper because it's discreet, but it doesn't protect the back cover that bulges out.
I like the QuiCircle flip case because it actually adds functionality (and wireless charging in some cases), but the flipping is inconvenient to me and it hides the phone
I like the Goospery wallet case beacuse of the colors and wallet convenience, but it's HUGE, it adds at least 2 cm in height to the phone
In all honesty, I'll be playing around with them, but eventually I'll go back to naked
Hope this helps
Edit:
Aluminium bumper
QuickCircle
Goospery Wallet
I got the leather-backed model, so putting a case on it sounds a bit like a waste.
No case or anything for me. I'm waiting to find a good bumper that hours on and off easily add I plan to replace the battery semi regularly. I have yet to find a bumper that goes on and off easily yet though.
I bought a cheap rubber case from Amazon (£1.50). I have the plastic backed phone so no worries about the leather but the case gives me a little more grip and a little more protection without adding much bulk. It'll do me!
I think a case is an absolute necessity. But I just have the plastic-backed phone. I wouldn't want to cover up the leather back if I had it.
I LOVE the Slim Exact Fit Hard cases. Especially the Incipio Feather because it has a nice soft matte rubbery feel, but they don't make one for the G4. Instead I have the Spigen ExactFit case. It fits exactly the same but the finish (while matte) is slick, not rubbery.
But YES a case is needed. As little protection these "slim" fit cases provide, they do a whole lot surrounding the phones body. I have dropped mine, slid it across a parking lot, and all kinds of stuff. They do help keep the phone body from getting scratched and dented.
They are like $6. Well worth it. I have sent emails to Incipio to try and convey them to do a Feather Case.
Yes a case is necessary, I dropped my g4 2 days after i got it thank god i had a case on it
Had my g4 for a week and it slid out of my pocket getting out of my truck yesterday. Cover fell off and battery spilled out and everything and now my shiny new phone has a mean scuff on the very top left corner ((
I'm looking to get a metal bumper now.. Just wish there was one of those fancy Japanese brands available for it but do they even sell lg phones in Japan?
It is not necessary if you have lots of money to change phone every month.
Case is absolutely essential. The brown leather is really slippery compared to the plastic back, I managed to launch my phone within 2 days of recieving it. The screen may have survived the impact with a case - the plastic surround certainly wouldn't have had chunks gouged out of it...
The encouragement of going without a case so that the leather wears is going to cause an awful lot of broken glass.
Yes, a case is an absolute necessity if you want to keep it safe from drops. I recommend a Spigen hybrid or something similar that can shock absorb. I had a slim hard case on my nexus 6 and after a relatively minor fall it cracked. My insurance wrote it off and gave me a cash payout. I gut a neo hybrid straight away for my G4. Breaking your phone and having to wait for insurance is a right ball break.

I usually go with a case, however I feel that the G4 with a case will be a little too large for my hands.
For me the look of deep blue back is too nice to just cover up. I've opted for no case this time as the phone feels very nice in hand.
I do want to state that the shiny metal band has already shown scratching already.

You never need a case until you actually drop the phone.

In case you are not aware. It's a chrome plating. Not metal..
