Hi
I just installed today the latest cyanogen mod nightly
My wifi tether is not working. I creates a hotspot, I can connect to it, but data is not transferred
May I get some help on getting wifi to work with this rom?
thank you
You need a different kernel. One that is for 10.1 that has WiFi tether enabled

Sorry, I know this is somewhat of an old post. My question, to install this kernel do i need to do anything in cwm such as wipe caches, factory reset or any of that?
I'm running 10.1 by the way.

Head on over to Ktoonsez' thread and read the entire op. He clearly explains how to properly install his kernel.

They are all based off the Linux kernel. You just need to make sure you're flashing the correct version intended for your ROM. The later ROMS are running off Linux 3.4.x. However, Keep in mind that the latest kernels will NOT work on ROMs that were released before 4/19. Be sure to only flash the updated kernels released on that date or later or your phone will not boot . So in your case you must update to one of the latest CM nightlies (AFTER 4/19) if you wanna flash any of these later 3rd party kernels.
For future reference you can check the linux version of any ROM in Settings > About Phone> Kernel version. Also do some more reading next time bud. This whole kernel deal has been discussed countless times in numerous threads.

OK, I'm also having troubles with tethering. While I have very few posts here, I'm not exactly inexperienced. I've been putting custom ROMs on since I had my G1.
I'm running a recently nightly of CM10.1 (4/20 so a 3.4 kernel) and obviously (as discussed above) it can't natively do wifi tethering. Found this thread and a couple others stating a needed a different kernel (that's a first for me, hadn't ventured into changing kernels).
Searched around and initially went with BMS, however I had the same problem - no wifi tethering.
Based on the advice here, downloaded and installed Ktoonsez's K747 kernel. Same thing.
In all cases, I've tried with WPA2 and unsecured. In all cases, devices can see the AP and can connect but no data is transferred. There has got to be something simple I am missing here. I really miss tethering (use it for internet on my Transformer Prime when I'm on the road).

Rebooted and have wiped cache, dalvik, and fixed permissions per the instructions in Ktoonsez's thread
I'll try rebooting and wiping both again
Edit:
No effect. Same problem....
If you come up with a solution, please share it. My wifi tethering isn't working either.

Something is clearly wrong here. I just did a completely clean flash (factory reset/wipe) of the latest nightly and then laid on the latest KT kernel and I still have no hotspot ability whether with WPA2 or open. I can see the hotspot but no data transfers.

Hmm, USB tethering doesn't work either. I'm guessing there is one common cause
By golly, I think I've got it. I did ANOTHER wipe and install and immediately tried the hotspot and it worked. Prior to this, I noted that my CWM was horribly out of date and was not 3.4 kernel aware (as evidenced by nested 0 directories). So I fixed that and then flashed and it worked. I then went to work restoring data using Titanium backup and that's when things went to hell. Something in the restore hoses the ability to use the hotspot. So now I am doing a more controlled recovery hoping that I can get back all the data I need without hosing the hotspot.
So, this explains why a dirty flash didn't work. Whatever breaks it was obviously there under the dirty flash. And my previous clean flashes always had a restore via TB immediately afterwards.
So, not sure whether it is only the restore issue, or if the old CWM also had a hand in it, but either way, I think I'm gonna succeed here.
Can someone post a step by step fix please?
I have the same problem; I have tried to replicate the solutions here, to no avail. Flashed anew, still same problem.
Can someone please post a step-by-step fix? Can I just flash a new kernel and be done? I'm on CyanogenMod ROM, 4.4.2, 11-20140210.
Thanks!
Hello all,
Ok this may seem a bit long, so I apologize in advance. I have been at this for a week and haven't been able to find a fix. I don't use my camera much so I am not sure when the problem started but I was running LiquidSmooth on my s3 and one fine day I get this error when I start the camera app, "Camera Error : Cant connect to camera" . I started restarting, clearing cache, no luck. So I restored stock ROM through Odin, and strangely the error still persists. Only difference is on a stock rom it shows up as "Warning: Camera failed". I searcehd xda and other sites and found other people having similar problems, but there is no guaranteed fix to this.
One possible fix is described here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2006128 . I tried this but when I try to check my firmware version using the dialer code, i get an error " Factory test has stopped"
There are a number of other suggestions that U tried as well, some of them include finding the correct "SLIM_ISP.bin file and placing them on your /root folder, but so far no luck. I also have a spare camera module that I swapped but the damn thing still won't work.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Look a few posts down. Might be your bootloader.
There is another thread.. Think in development regarding bootloaders with flashable zip files.
Good luck

I updated my bootloader and modem before the rom. That broke the camera for me. Updating the rom to 4.1.2 fixed it for me. Make sure your bootloader matches your rom.

If you are running a 4.1.1 rom with the mg2 4.1.2 bootloader cam gets borked. There's an app that will tell you what bootloader you have. Vice versa I believe. Running the lk3 4.1.1 bootloaders on a 4.1.2 cam will bork.

Tried that , doesnt work, also i verified that the bootloader is mg2. I did a little more digging , if you go to /root/sys/class/camera/rear, you can see the firmware for the rear camera, mine only shows up as (null) (null), no matter which ROM or bootloader I install. The front cam firmware shows up fine. Dont know if that will help you guys identify the problem, just thought I would mention it. Any other suggestions?
Camera not connected
Weird, after having a lot of problems when I flashed the official I9300XXUGMK6 Official Samsung ROM JB 4.3 the phone any more could register to the net, looked and looked every where and many solutions appeared, I was afraid to apply some of them but then hierarchy666 suggested to apply the Ultima v 15 ROM and the patch for that version, did so but selecting the xxemh1 modem and the speedmod kernel , and yes it did work, my phone was alive again , but then I tried to take some photos and my camera presented the Camera not connected error.
So I reinstalled the ROM and patched etc etc etc and still I´m presenting the problem, then I decided to try the same Samsung Kernel included in the Ultima Titan ROM and after rebooting I had camera but no registered to the net, kind of weird and think something is missing or corrupted .
Any idea
Regards
Ultima ROM seems to be great and if it could work 100 % could be the best ROM to try.

For all those who are having problems with CM or in my case even Gummy not being able to connect to camera. After scowering for 3 hours the internet I have finally fixed my problem. What I did was to flash CM and Gapps, making sure to wipe cache even before installing Gapps after CM. But this time instead of running camera straight off, I went into the file browser with root access. Navigated to my /system/cameradata folder and immediatlely 777 all the Slims.bin's..My camera now works like a charm! (for now)..
I noticed that when trying to change permissions after running camera for the first time, there were some .bin's that had different permissions than others (on some of them I didn't have to check as many permission options). When I went in before running it, any x or r were completely blocked, so I did my 777 and now all works correctly. I hope this helps anyone having this frustrating problem! I did NOT want to go back to stock rom, copy files, re-flash CM, paste files..or some other fixes that were out there..
Good Luck! (I hope this is in the proper area, I don't usually post in forums so forgive me if it is)..LOVE XDA! Has helped me solve countless problems!
hey guys, having the same issue, so Skype works (front camera) , If I launch straight into it after a boot., can't switch to the back camera
I tried factory reset, then I unlocked the BL and put on CM12 , the camera app would open and just hang there , when try to open again it would have camera cannot connect.
Run hardware info from Play Store, it sees both camera fine, this is just the strangest error...
EDIT:didn't see the post above will try that tonight
Yeahh this is an ongoing issue for both stock Os and asop OS
Not sure why.. sem to he an issue hardware wise
Guys here is my problem. I tried to upgrade my Samsung N7105 to 4.3 via OTA and it got stucked on bootloop.
I tried to access recovery mode but it fails, only download mode.
What i did is I downloaded the official 4.3 firmware at SamMobile and flashed it with Odin 3.09
Based on Odin it is successful but im still stuck on bootloop and recovery mode cannot still be accessed.
Tried to root it also and installed CWM to recover. I was able to to access CWM
so i restored factory setting, wipe cache and dalvik cache but still the phone bootloops.
Any suggestions on how to resolve my problem?

Now working cm10.2 but now my next problem is there is no signal. it appeared that imei value is null. how do i repair this? thanks!
By the way after successfully running on cm10.2 I tried to reflash again with stock firmware. bootloop again. i think i will be stuckon using custom roms for now. The only thing I need to address is the no mobile signal problem.
OK so the bootloop problem is done and don't worry there are a lot of amazing custom roms that are based on the stock one and even better features like the note 3 features, as for the imei, please tell me you did an nfs backup if you do, there are a lot of ways you can restore your nfs backup, if you don't have an nfs backup, I don't know what to do.

Sorry was on vacation for a long time. I wasn't able to update this thread.
Problem right now is I forgot to back the EFS so when I flashed CM 10.2
There is no baseband and IMEI is null. Tried to flash n7105 modem but still it still doesn't work
Have read that I should flash stock firmware to fix baseband and IMEI but 4.3 firmwares makes my phone go on bootloop.
Should I wait for 4.4 update? I want my phone to make it usable again.
My phone right now is useless and works like an itouch hahaha
Any suggestions???

You may try Hurricane modem changer and experiment with various modem versions. It's a longshot but it may help. Try finding very old modem version and flash that.
Hurricane Modem Changer is that an application?
Where to get it? Also, will it there be a possibility that when I flash Official 4.4 kitkat (when released) on my n7105.
Bandwidth and IMEI will be restored? I'm leaning towards to come back to touch wiz though many of you guys might say that a custom rom might be better.
For one thing, the problem in my n7105 started when i upgraded to 4.3 via OTA

No, it's for N7100 only - the modems are completely different (3G vs LTE).
Please read the original post carefully before flashing, if the HC was not protected you could have lost network functions completely.

Im using an n7105 model. Guess this will not work. Any other suggestions?
From what I understand, the quickest solution is to flash stock firmwares however, i'm quite disappointed that
almost all 4.3 firmwares from sam mobile doesn't work in my phone (always bootlooping)

Now my problem is, I need to have the phone operational. so im willing to flash custom roms for the meantime
but the baseband problem is really testing my patience. hehe

It's pretty strange really as stock firmwares are a complete set of bootloader/modem/system that should in theory work perfectly well together without any incompatibility problems. Have you ever tried to install one of them without sdcard and/or simcard installed, maybe you have some leftovers from previous system (Android secure directory) that causes bootloops, also did you completely clean internal sdcard prior to flashing, it may create the same problems as external sdcard.

im not sure if i cleaned the internal sdcard prior to flashing.
It started with the OTA update that failed then I tried to flash stock firmware via odin
do i have to do a pre-requisite before flashing it again? so you are suggesting to remove the simcard and external sd card prior to flashing?

Download the Google Specific No SSL version (first download link). Flash that in recovery. See if that helps.
If it doesn't, try the next one, the Google specific one with SSL
If that doesn't work, look further down the list and use the one specific to your carrier.
If that doesn't work...I dunno.
You will likely have to flash this again when you update the ROM. But no big deal. You can do it in recovery right after you flash the ROM update.

Yep. @kiruba8 is right. You have to delete the GPS cached data and give it some time and it will fix itself.

That was extraordinarily uncalled for.
I pointed to to where I had laid on detailed instructions on what you shoudl try first.
Why you are resorting to name calling because of it is beyond me. Good luck fixing your problem.....on your own.

Well see, I asked if op got it working. I appreciate your help in the thread but I'm not going to go flashing files without finding out if it worked or not... Seeing as it didn't, I'll gladly leave.

Hi,
So here's what I've done.
First Im pretty sure its related to the modem or radio? is it the same? I remember flashing a 4.3 rom from 4.2 and the network wasnt working so I had to flash a md5 modem.
Now I tried flashing official 4.2.2
No go.
Upgrading official to 4.3
No go
Upgrading official to 4.4
No go
Now I'm back on CM 11 because I like the rom.
I don't know what to do next...

If you have flashed official firmware then it is not radio/modem related. It would be hardware related. This is the reason I stay away from CM. It works perfect while you use it but once you go back to TW it causes conflicts for me most of the time. I have used GPS status and cleared the cached GPS data and downloaded the GPS data and it fixes itself within minutes. I also have at least 2 users that had your same issue use the app and followed the instructions and confirmed the method to be working. I believe that CM leaves remnants of the system that cause a conflict with any other system. I had a full wipe file in my extsd but deleted it somehow. I can't remember where I got it from but it does wonders. It wipes everything and prevents leftover crap from the previous ROM or system so there is no conflicts. For example there is a folder in my internal SD called wicked ROM that I cannot delete for the life of me! The only way that I could get rid of it would be going back to stock or flashing the full wipe zip that I no longer have because I lost it. Anyway I will try to find this zip and share with you and you can flash you ROM after. Hopefully it will work for ya.

I'm in the exact same boat as the op... And I've tried all the same steps to fix it (including the gps app) but with no luck. Only difference being that I'm not on CM. I'm on the 4.4.2 GE ROM (aosp)
Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks fellas

Hi guys, sorry if this is stupid. I've flashed ROMs to 3 or 4 phones before this one and didn't have any issues with them, but this time around it doesn't seem so easy. My phone is a virgin mobile galaxy s2 (d710)
My phone has been rooted for a while and my stock ROM started randomly freezing up on me 4-5 times/day, so I finally decided to flash a ROM. The stickied post says to use odin mobile to flash to GB - EL26 Stock w/ CWM then to flash the ROM I want. Any ROM I tried flashing gave a status 7 error and aborted, EXCEPT for one ROM, and on that one I didn't even have working 3G? I believe this thread implied doing it any other way would be a hard brick.
I finally ended up using samsung's official upgrade tool in download mode to flash back to stock ROM, but it would be nice to get a custom on now that I've put time into it.
Can anyone point me in the direction I need to go?
Thanks
EDIT: I'm currently on the 4.1.2 stock ROM

I'm guessing you're trying to flash a KitKat ROM? Using Mobile Odin and EL26CWM will work when flashing 4.2.2 (and under) ROMs, but not KitKat. You'll need the last Blasphemy 6.6 kernel (just for the updated ClockworkMod), located in Original Development, for that.
In your case, you'll probably want to flash FJ12 or FL26 (if you can find it) modem zips, as you're on Virgin Mobile, and those are ICS Virgin Mobile modems, which you'll need to have working data/internet on Any AOSP ROM (JB modems won't work).
And this guide is assuming you're completely stock JB firmware, not rooted.

It looks like I'm on GB28 stock. I think agats caused a soft brick. I'm reflashing back to stock again now....I don't know what's going on with this phone.
Edit: Retried, got it to work this time. Thanks.
Is there a reason why you have to flash one recovery just to move onto another one? Would any recovery work installing any ROM? I'm a bit confused by all these different recoveries, since my last phone only needed one.

On this device, recovery comes bundled with the kernel. When you flash a ROM or kernel, the recovery that was on gets overwritten by the recovery that comes with the ROM/kernel you're flashing.
The reason everybody started using EL26CWM (gingerbread kernel) was due to a bug in the stock ICS firmware that was causing some people's devices to be permanently bricked when doing a factory reset.
Status 7 error when flashing is usually due to using a recovery that's too old.
So to answer your question... No, there is no "be-all, end-all" recovery for this device. Sorry [emoji20]
Glad you got it working though

Thanks for the help. Now that I'm running CM11, I don't have visual voicemail and it looks like I can't receive MMS.
Serious props to the people that use custom ROMs that aren't driven insane by bugs, I'm irritated by it already.
Know of any fix?
I don't know about visual voicemail... I'm flashed to Cricket and just use the built-in voicemail statusbar notification. Have you tried pushing the apk manually? I'm pretty sure I've seen Virgin Mobile fixes here in the d710 forum.
As far as MMS goes, have you tried messing with the APN's? I don't think MMS will work as-flashed, out-of-the-box for you without modifying them for Virgin.
If you're getting annoyed by bugs, have you given stock, rooted deodexed GB28 a try? When i get the TouchWiz itch, I run deodexed GB28, along with Agat's 1.3 kernel, TD's AIO mod, and Missing Link mod (both found in Themes and Apps of this forum).
I'm currently running Slimbean build 7 (4.2.2) as it's super lightweight, stable, and has good battery-life.

Do you know where I could find the voicemail apk?
Also, where can I mess with the APNs/what would work there?
The only reason I want a custom ROM at all is to be on KitKat. It honestly disgusts me a bit that google hasn't standardized versions....I don't get why every phone needs it's own ROM and never gets updated....
Thanks man.
Edit: I did find a MMS fix and visual voicemail all in one zip, but flashing it screwed the phone and I had to restore in recovery.
As far as editing APN's, I use Nova Prime launcher to create a shortcut on my homescreen to access them. Create shortcut to Activities/Settings/APNs and make your edits there.
Have you tried extracting the contents of the zip and manually applying those changes? Sorry but I wouldn't know anything else about configuring for Virgin. Maybe you could ask in that respective ROM thread, as I'm sure there are Virgin Mobile users there that have everything working.

Thanks for the ideas, I'm a bit slow sometimes when it comes to android/linux. I pulled the apk out of the zip, installed it, that's working fine. I just need to find a fix for my MMS. I can send but not receive.
Edit: I found a way to open the APN settings using voice dialer, but it's blank and choosing to add one, it does not save.

Just for clarification, if I want to flash a new ROM when I'm already on a custom, do I need to use odin mobile to flash back to that GB rom with CWM before I flash the recovery and new ROM? Or can I just wipe and flash new recovery from the one I have now?

If the new recovery you are talking about is safe to flash from...and the one you are currently using is safe to flash from...then you can just reboot recovery and wipe cache and dalvik, then flash new recovery and then reboot recovery. Now you will be on the new, safe, recovery. So do your wipes ( data, cache, dalvik cache and format system ) and flash the rom.
If you want to go the mobile odin way..in case the recovery you currently have cant flash the new recovery you need, in order to flash the rom of choice..which im assuming is kitkat. As it needs the most up to date recovery to flash properly.
Then i have a simple guide you can follow to flash a safe kernel/recovery, in which you can then flash the newer recovery for flashing the rom you have choosen.
Link to guide. Post 5 is what you need to read.
If this sounds complicated or confusing..please post a link to current rom you wish to install and i will read the op and point you down the correct path.
Thanks, I was looking to use either of these. I've had issues with ROMs so far because I'm on Virgin Mobile and lots of stuff is buggy. Not sure which of these will work best:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/epic-4g-touch/orig-development/rom-liquidsmooth-v3-1-t2803683
I'm not normally confused by rooting/flashing, but I don't understand the whole "safe recovery" thing.

I see. Im not too familiar with what works with virgin mobile.
But if you can flash a virgin modem and set your apns after a flash.. That will get your data working. I'm at work.. But let me refewsh my memory later about virgin mobile on this device and I'll hit ya back.
Fyi.. I think jdsingle made a virgin mobile rom a while back.

Yeah, I tried that one, it continually crashed my launcher every 3 seconds, had to reflash the ROM. It did give me the voicemail apk I needed though! Really if I could just get flash instructions for going from one rom to another, I'd be set probably.
Have you tried applying the changes and setting permissions in the zip manually, like with Root Explorer?

No, I'm honestly not sure how to do that. Linux's file structure is confusing to me. Granted I'm also having wifi problems on this rom too, it disconnects all the time.

It honestly isn't too difficult at all. All I see in the zip is a new apns-conf.xml (permissions are rw-r-r), 2 build.prop edits, and the deleting of telephony.db located in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases
