My Note 2 froze on me yesterday while using it and then restarted. However, it stopped at the Samsung Logo and never proceeded to boot back up. I removed the battery several times and attempted to restart to no avail. Phone is still not proceeding past Samsung logo. Phone has been rooted with jedix16 using a perseus alpha kernel. Anyhow, the most recent nandroid backups I have are from several months ago. I did manage to take a backup after the phone became bricked but not sure if that will do me any good. Is there any way to extract data from the backup?
The files in the cwm folder are .dup and .img files. The only data file is data.ext4.dup. Am I hosed as far as grabbing any recent data is concerned?
Thanks in advance
You can use adb.exe to pull data if you can get into download mode

Hello, this is kind of a long story but.......I was in clockworkmod recovery looking to restore back to a backed up rom. I saw a backup titled, 2000-01-01.00.00.16/. I didn't remember a backup that had that named and it said it was from the year 2000. Out of curiosity I decided to backup to it. Then It got stuck or what appeared to be stuck on "checking md5 sum". After ten minutes I pulled the battery thinking it hadn't even started restoring. When I put the battery back in I got the charging battery icon with a cloud and a thermometer, assuming this meant that the phone was to hot I felt the back and it wasn't hot at all. I tried to power the phone off but each time I turned it back on I got the same icon. Finally I tried plugging it in. Then the icon went away and the booted into clockworkmod. So then I restored to the Unnamed rom and the led notification light wouldn't go off. Then every time I turn the phone off I get the thermometer icon and have to plug it in. On top of that my computer won't recognize the phone. I want to use Odin to go back to stock but since the computer won't recognize it I'm stuck with a phone full of problems. Any suggestion?
First backups can't contains signs /&%*+# etc...
Second.. can you get to recovery?

omg .. i THINK YOU BRICKED YOUR PHONE!!
But not to worry, most likely it's an easy fix. Reboot phone a couple times, MAKE SURE DRIVERS & EVERYTHING are INSTALLED FIRST, open ODIN with proper .TAR file, .PIT NOT needed. Only Auto Reboot box should be checked, then plug in to pc. Wait for phone to connect and hit start. BE PATIENT. If it doesn't work try booting into CMW, holding POWER and VOL UP buttons. Hope this helps!
Thanks everyone for the help. I ended up downloading mobile odin from the market, and then flashing the stock unrooted EK02.tar file. I still had the same problems and figured it was a hardware problem. So I took it into my local sprint store and they took one look and it and ordered me knew for free, no questions asked!
Recently I flashed RebelRom Beta 2, it resulted in a the LG logo being displayed on my phone but nothing would happen. So I did a restore from CWM, and the restore worked fine for a couple of days but at some point my phone lost power. Now whenever I turn it on I get boot loops and am unable to get into CWM. My question is is my phone bricked, and what can I do to avoid another brick? (Note I never formatted /data and I always follow installation instructions.)

It's a known problem, at this point the solution is to restore you back and don't shut off your phone. Reboots work fine, but shut off will boot loop it.
Hmmm so I can't turn off my phone. What do you mean by reboot/how do I reboot? Also does this mean I can't flash roms anymore? And finally is there a fix on the horizon?
Still a bit of noob here - but here's what happened:
I was running clean bean 4.2, then I successfully installed the MK3 baseband w/o any problems. I found that the wifi was broken so I flashed the wifi fix from (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541900).
Once that flashed ok my system tried to reboot and then proceeded to sit at the samsung loading screen. After 10+ mins I hard pulled the battery and was able to get into twrp and tried a restore backup from before any changes today. Once that finished it rebooted and is still sitting at s3 load screen.
Now when I try to get into recovery nothing happens.
Powering of and on remains sitting at the s3 load screen.
Any help would be appreciated.
Update: Ok not all hope is lost - I can get back into recovery, but restore while successful refuses to load past the s3 screen.
I'm a bit at loss now what to do - would factory resetting it do the trick?
Update 2: Tried a factory reset and still nothing - still sits at the s3 load screen.
Ok - I got a rom manually back on the sd card and reflashed a base rom.
Phone boots back into android. :good:
I have learned my lesson.
Yes, lesson is do not flash zips made for stock touchwiz when you are on AOSP, or vice versa.
Hello!
I purchased the tablet (SM-P600 WiFi model) a few months back. I rooted when I bought and it was working without any problems, but today I tried to install this "boot animation", and it put my device into a soft brick. When I try to boot the device, first the initial Samsung logo shows up, then it's just blank screen without any sound and after a while (by the time device would normall boot), it justs restarts again and repeats the same thing again. I am able to access recovery (TWRP, installed it and made first backup 2 days ago) and download mode as well.
I've tried to recover backup I made 2 days ago (fully working) but it doesn't fix anything. The bootloop continues.
To clarify some things, I'm running on 4.3 (MJ6) stock, flashed SELinux Permissive kernel yesterday, but it was working fine until now.
This is the actual boot "animation": https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.livelogcat
I installed, and after trying to reboot, the bootloop problems started
I hope you can help me Thank you in advance.
After some fiddling around, finally downloading stock firmware (slow wifi here) from sammobile.com and flashing it with ODIN, I've recovered from the bootloop. I am still interested though in why it happened in the first place. Can anyone please provide me with some insight ?
Thank you anyway
After trying to restore backup from 2 days ago (which was working perfectly fine), there again is no boot animation after initial boot logo, no sound, but if I press power key and any of the capacitive touch buttons, home key, etc., the tablet vibrates but nothing appears on the screen. It's getting kind of weird.
EDIT:
I just tried flashing stock firmware again, and after only restoring /data/, things like home button, capacitive buttons, Settings button in Quick Settings/Notification etc. don't work. Can anyone help me with restoring the data I had from that working backup?
Titanium Backup can extract apps and data from TWRP/CWM backups. It's kind of a slow process, but it works.

I actually tried that, I have PRO version of Titanium Backup, but it only found a SINGLE app from the whole working backup (About 7GB). I also tried Nandroid Backup Explorer which only found one app (with data) as well, most of the others (some were even totally missing) had no data at all. After manually examining the backup, there actually was only 1 app data folder in /data/data/. No WiFI settings or anything else either.
So I have the tablet restored with most of the apps. But every single one of them (except one that doesn't even hold any permanent data that I know of) has lost their data. I have since flashed CWM because it always worked for me.
At least you're up and running again. I tried this logcat app (over a year ago) on my N10 and my N7, both got a bootloop as well.

I'm attempting to restore my T700. The security of the the tablet was compromised while overseas (damnit) and when I returned home I wiped it fresh, and I've gotten sideways somewhere along the way. I'm stuck now with the ODINRecovery.tar.md5 bootloader found from another thread. It boots with the 4 spinning circles with various frilly art dancing about. That's very technical.
Otherwise, I can connect via recovery mode in odin. I've downloaded stock and CM 12.1 ROMs, but I'm not able to get them to write. I'm getting errors in Odin 3.07/9 at "NAND Write Start !!". I've attempted flashing over TWRP and CWP, but I'm not able to boot into them after.
Prior to this fiasco, I was rooted running CM 12.1 /w nightlies.
Any help would be incredibly appreciated.
Restore to stock via Odin. Download/Zip firmware from Sammobile or other available link.
If you need Samsung drivers, Here you go.
Once you restore to stock via Odin and see the Green pass and still stuck on boot....Then reboot to factory recovery (Shut off T700, Power On - POWER + VOL UP + Home). Then factory reset the device and see it if boots.
Optional:
Once you have a working tab then proceed forward with Root+TWRP Recovery via Odin.
You and I were both on the same path. I downloaded stock last night and calmly walked away from it. About 30 min ago I re-checked the drivers and was able to complete the restore. From there straight back into TRWP and restoring a recent backup.
I guess I was just getting too close to the problem last night and needed some fresh eyes.
Thank you so much, for taking the time to chime in and help!
