Hi, is there a method for showing location on local maps? I know we can do it on an equirectangular map of the world, but for me it would be more useful to have something more specific. I have an equirectangular map of South East England which I woul like to use on my zooper homescreen when I commute. The geographic limits are:
West: 2.0W
East: 1.5E
North: 52.25N
South: 50.5N
Does anyone know how to make this work?

I have the tomtom working great on my 6800, but I was hoping it have a few more features. I'm looking for something to track my trip with waypoints so I can download or view them later. Something I could add POI's to while out on the bike. A friend used to have a small garmin handheld unit we would take when trail riding that would make a waypoint say every 50-100yds, then we could print out the trail later when we got home. Anything along those lines for the WM5 side?

The GPS Tuner listed above does everything I was looking for and it doesn't use alot of memory and it runs fast. Thanks for that link.
The only think I would like to change about GPSTuner is the map pictures. It's not the end of the world, and you can add map shots from google maps.
I am wanting the same kind of program but I will be using it for fishing locations. I fish all over the west coast and I want to be able to make waypoints of good spots and be able to see them on a map that I can zoom in and out. How hard is it to make maps for GPS Tuner? I like the program but the map that is on it is horrible! Google maps or live search would be perfect if they allowed you to mark a waypoint right on the screen and save it.

Can you have me that how to download Maps for GPS tunner ?
Being in Canada (southern Ontario), the universal Bing search barely worked. Well I mean it worked, but it only had two options "news" and "web" or something.
So I switched my system locale to USA... and now I get the full complimented Bing search. And the 'local' works now too... for Canadian-only stuff (Like LCBO, or arenas here in town). It's gonna be so much easier now searching for things. Just hit the search button, touch the 'local' map, and it takes me right to maps (...the way it was supposed to work). Which is awesome don't get me wrong.
But why on earth couldn't they just enable it to work here?? I understand it might be coming in an update, but it works already...
I couldn't find a thread where anyone has mentioned this so I thought I'd mention this app. It's ArcGIS from ESRI and it is in the Marketplace (FREE!). It might be getting overlooked because people think they need to know GIS to use it which is not the case. Within the program there are dozens of base maps to choose from including a world road map. It doesn't have turn by turn directions but it does allow you to center your location and have the map scroll under you while driving. The world map has fairly good detail. Give it a try, I think you'll be surprised at all the information you will have access to with the various base maps.
I don't have any affiliation with the developer except I am a user of their desktop software.
Interesting, will show this to my girlfriend. She uses the desktop software for school, might have interesting integration capabilities.

I loaded the A to B navigation yesterday and it's got to be one of the top 5 free apps out there.
One thing I like about the Arcmap app I originally posted about is the ability to have useful maps saved in the favorites folder and switch between them within the program. It can go from a road map to a weather map and back again with just a few button pushes.

i would like to ask u guys what navigation would u recomend for SGS2 or maybe for gingerbread in general. (i am owner of SGS2)
previous i was using on my SGS1 sygic navigation and i was extremly happy - quick location lock + everything i needed...and i could get it free... have friends from CZ - developers..but they aint able to get the sygic working well with 2.3+ i was reading a lots of articles about people complaining..
curently i am using SGS2 and i would love to know what would u guys recomend - what app...i know NAVIGON, GARMIN....but i havent tryed them on SGS2 yet
i am driving and cycling a lot and navigation is a important part of my phone...
i hope u will be able to share your exp with me.

Google Navigation. Simply the best (of course, my opinion), it'll be perfect when they enable offline maps, but I don't know when the will.
Google navigation got me lost something mean yesterday.
Was trying to lead me up buss only roads, tram tracks all sorts.
After an hour lost I had to pull out my crusty tom tom which lead
Me the right way. Normally its fine but yesterday it really let me down.
I have been using Sygic Mobile Maps without any problems for a long time. Then upgraded to Sygic Aura. Also worked without any problems and now, recently upgraded Aura to the newest Sygic GPS Navigation 3.0, which works really really great on the SGS2. Everything is fast and smooth and runs just perfectly. I'm loving it ;-)

Aura works fine on my SGS2 as well. Well, live traffic is not working at all, but many people were bothering Sygic support about this problem and Sygic is looking into this issue.
Other than that I am also happy with it, updated maps, lot's of POI's.
I am not so sure about the quality of route planning.
Navigon always gives you 3 alternative routes for you to choose from and I have a feeling, it planned better, but they have Q32011 maps, in comparison to Q12011 maps for Sygic, which makes a big difference for Ireland.
Sygic also promises free map updates, nor Navigon or Copilot promise you that, in fact, Navigon says that they don't plan to update the maps in the close future...
Navfree gives me the same problem on SGS2 - it initially says Installing.... then blackscreens and drops out.
I have a problem with google maps navigation. (Apart from the hideous voice). It takes a few seconds to get a gps lock but if I miss a turning, route recalculation takes ages. Like minutes rather than seconds. Not a gps hardware issue as I also use igo and it locks & recalculates routes almost instantly. Strange.

Waze for free, TomTom for pay.
I have been using TomTom for years as a standalone car navigator, so I could not resist to buy it for my SGS2.
But before it was released for Android, I used Waze and I must say that it is very good, even if I prefer the professional look and content of TomTom.
Google Navigation when in my own country and have flat rate data plan
CoPilot Live Premium for off-line navigation when driving outside my country
Locus for off-line maps (free vector) when hiking, walking in nature and trying to find my way in big towns
Talk about necromania - digging up topics from 2011...
Anyway, my choice is NavFree (nav and voice directions for driving) and MapsWithMe (for walking around the cities). Both free, both offline.

I'm in thailand and I don't see how to do it. Last year it worked fine but not anymore.
It was very useful when I need to save a map of a town I don't know.

Google search "how to cache google maps offline" will give you all the details. Don't recall off the top of my head since I WIFI tether.
Go into the area you want and in the search area type in OK maps or OK map. It should say caching map

If you don't need the satellite overlay, OsmAnd is an awesome alternative. You have 10 downloads on the free version, the downloads consist of maps of Countries/States, and language packs. Thailand is available, not sure about the language though (there are about 23 language packs.) OsmAnd does navigation too. Lots of options, it is basically a Navigation unit that you would buy, except you download (through the app) the offline vector maps that you want.
