I'm relatively new to the Android os. The Nexus 7 is my first Android device. I've rooted and unlocked it with tablet model enabled by setting the dpi to 175. I follow this forum like it's going my job and I've learned a ton here.
I'm starting to notice that there are many apps on the Play store that other users are suggesting that are incompatible with my device. Is it possible that my Nexus 7 is configured incorrectly, causing the store to think it can't run the apps?

DPI changes can cause the Play Store mark apps as uncompatible.

Change your pixel density back (at least temporarily). That should fix it, the market uses pixel density as a criteria for the compatibility checker.
That was the first thing I thought of. It didn't help.

A lot of is side load the apps to install them.

Anything other than stock (213) or 160 will chase issues on Google play. Change to either one and clear data before trying to access Google play and it should work
If that doesn't work, you may also try tacking a dalvik cache wipe on the end. That fixed it for me.

For some reason, I was able to update to the pro version tonight. When I got home tonight, I was contemplating performing a factory reset. I was doing some research on the process and I noticed that there was an update for the Rom Toolbox lite downloading. This was not the first time this particular update downloaded but on a bunch I decided to see if I could get the pro version and the Google Play Store decided this time to let me download it. Thanks everyone for your help.

If you change your DPI to 160, there should be no incompatible apps, besides flash iirc. If you don't like the DPI there, just switch to 160 for getting apps, then switch back.

Its starting to aggravate me that my old phone can do more than this tablet. Is jb really that new? No one prepared for it's release? Come on! Love my tablet but wtf is the hold up with the apps not being ready to use like td bank and Amazon mobile to name a few.

Ummm what???? I've never found one yet ...did u change ur DPI?? All apps work man
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Maybe all the ones you use, didn't change anything.

Make sure u on stock DPI !!! Then clear data on market and Google right below it,reboot then it'll work I'm telling u 99%apps are compatible with jellybean man I've installed tons and tons of apps even hardcore games 2gb large

I must agree to a certain extent. NatWest banking app fails on jellybean, it just won't show my balance. For the most part however, apps work fine.

Unlikely has anything to do with JB. Most likely the permissions listed below are incompatible with the Nexus 7.
Amazon Mobile requires these permissions:
Your location
coarse (network-based) location, fine (GPS) location
Network communication
full Internet access, view network state
Hardware controls
take pictures, control vibrator

Amazon mobile in the play store says its not compatible with the nexus 7. but If you sideload it it works fine. using it right now on my device.
Didnt try the td bank app but try sideloading that one as well. It might work.

Yes I keep encountering apps that don't appear in the market. They may very well work, but won't appear for nexus 7/jelly bean.
Some examples?
linephone
GT racing Hyundai edition
And there are lots of others that I can't think of now. Since owning this nexus (since launch date) I've probably encountered 30-40 apps that aren't available on the market. And I know there are lots others. Didn't really bother me at first, but I thought with how much this has sold that developers would issue (what would be minor most of the time) updates so these would be available.
And I've never bothered looking into it, but I know obviously you can keep an apk when downloading it from the market and others have posted them on various websites for others in situations like this, however my understanding is with jb it encrypts them so this is no longer possible with jb.
Because sometimes I get determined and go hunting for an apk and it turns out to be two versions behind or whatever. Is there a way to download apks even on jb? Is there an app that can do this? I'm not saying this regarding pirating, just another means of trying to get apps that are free that would more than likely work on this device.
XBMC has finally released a working beta compatible with the Nexus 4.
xbmc-12.0-Frodo_beta3-armeabi-v7a.apk
Here are other versions,
http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-android/downloads/list
all run fine on Nexus 4th But I find the menu font too small. It looks much better on a tablet.

The official beta 3 is the first version to work with the Nexus 4 IAndroid 4.2). Don't try anything before that. Also, the non-neon versions shouldn't work with the N4.
I've just added this app to the Nexus 4 Complete Index
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I can get it installed upon my Nexus 4, I then install a "advancedsettings.xml" file for my network syncing and all looks good since I can see the files and metadata associated with the files. But when I attempt to play a file, I get "This file is no longer available. Would you like to remove it from the library?" prompt. Every file I attempt gives this.
Am I missing something? I have the free version of MXPlayer. Do I need to install the "playercorefactory.xml" file as well?
TIA.

Figured it out. Don't need the "playercorefactory" file and had to input userid/pw for connections to network for syncing. Works like a champ now.

You're welcome. Yes, thanks to the flexibility of Android it scales perfectly fine and at least on a 7" tablet the experience is just as good as on the phone, but with slightly more content.

Which is exactly what got me to patch the apk to remove that check. They should really have filtered it out using the Play Store filters instead if they didn't want tablet users.
Honestly, except for the multiple account support, I do believe that Falcon Pro is a better option..

I questioned them about this and their response was because they wanted to allow "larger phones" the ability to download.
I'm trying both Falcon and Carbon right now. I haven't decided which I prefer. I'm not a huge Twitter user.

Not bad...still prefer tweetdeck.
I designed this app to work on Mobiles, filtering it through Play Store would filter some of the big phones, that was our doubt.
I designed it, and I can tell, that it's an awkward app to be used on a Tablet. I did announce (I'm still not allowed to post links here since I haven't passed 10 posts yet) that we're working on a Tablet app. Check our page on Google+ (+CarbonAndroid)
C'mon guys! Patch an app, jus' like that? And hosting it on Dropbox? Months of work and you guys deal with it just like that? C'mon!

Come on, after months and months of "developing", still no widget, no tablet support? Yes, you say you are working on a tablet app, but considering how long the phone app took, which is no more than a beta, it looks like a heck of a long time to wait for possible vaporware, especially considering the history of this app.

I agree that it probably doesn't work that well on 10" tablets but the experience on the Nexus 7 in portrait mode is good. Also, I assumed people using the modified app also used your app on their phone in most cases which means that no extra API token is taken up, unlike the included multi-user feature. I patched the app for my personal use but since people requested it I posted it here.
I honestly fail to see what your problem is with this. XDA users post patched APKs all the time to remove arbitrary limitations (Hulu, Netflix and Swype to name a few). If/when you release a tablet app, even a paid one, the interest for this will go away if the experiance is better. I'd be willing to remove the link to the patched APK when you release the tablet version. Until then, this is the only way for tablet users to enjoy your work.

So bbm has just been released and it isn't available for install on my nexus 7 (2012). I tried using the leaked apk but it didn't work. I then tried to install via APK downloader but didn't work either. Can someone offer me some tips or suggestions or even the APK if you have it?
Also i know it just got released but I'm tackling the issue as soon as possible because i have been waiting for this for a long time now
Thanks in advance!
