Hello, I have the DN3 Ditto rom which has Note3 features. I have the DN3 v4 RC2 version and now I want to install the V5 version. Do I have to wipe all my data, lose me apps and factory reset my phone?
I cant install it using recovery mode without wipe data and losing my data, settings, apps etc?
Just flash v5 and wipe cache and dalvik cache. Will work perfectly, and you dont lose anything

Why do I have to wipe cache and dalvik cache? I mean, this will affect something?

You just have to - otherwise it will not work if you have new apps and old apps in dalvik... This will not affect anything except dalvik cache will be re-created on 1st reboot/boot and it will take a bit longer to boot.

No. It's just to update all existing binaries/apps with latest prop files. So they can be optimized for current build.
Just did it. Works perfectly.
Thank you all
did it work with any problem?

Ok I downloaded gapps.gb to get the google apps for cyanogenmod7 the newest version. but the gapps.gb is the universal one that works for all cm7's, BUT my main question is that it keeps telling me to force close my google applications(i.e market)
If you can tell me how to install it properly it would be much appreciated.
what were the steps u took..did u wipe cache and dalvik before u flashed the gapps
http://goo-inside.me/gapps/latest/7/universal/
From recovery wipe cache and dalvik, flash, then reboot.
I'm not going to lie, I have no idea what you mean by wipe the cache and dalvik. I never heard of that.

Bud ... you need to do some reading before you do something that is really going to mess up your phone. As for wiping cache and dalvik cache ... go into recovery, and click on wipe. You will then have the option to clear cache/dalvik. Might want to clear each one twice.

I'm running TeamNDVRu's CM9 α7 and I want to upgrade to β2. The beta 2 changelog says:
No wipe needed, only go into Manage Apps/All/Camera and wipe camera app data.
Boot.img didnt change from alpha-12/beta-1, no need to fastboot flash if upgrading from those.

Since I'm only on alpha 7 I presume I'll need to flash boot.img again and also delete the camera app. data. as it says. I'm guessing when in recovery I should wipe the Dalvik VM cache and the cache partition as well.
The one thing I'm not sure on is whether or not I'll need to wipe the data (factory reset) as well?
Bump.

There's been a few versions between m8, I would imagine full wipe is best. But you can always try with just wiping Dalvik and the cache partition. If you get any problems then full wipe (factory reset)

yes do all for the cleanest install, I only do this if switching ROMs, or a developer tells you too in his updated thread. Some do it after every update. Basically I just overwrite old ROM with new update, which doesn't erase your data(always wipe dalvik and cache prior to doing this). Wiping data erases everything you've done to the newly installed ROM. Sometimes not doing a clean install even from the same ROM update can cause issues with certain apps that are reading your data. I had this issue with one app last update to jellybomb jb ROM.
Assuming you mean factory reset when u say wipe data. If u actually choose the "wipe data" option it will wipe internal sd.
But yes all 3 should be wiped, however factory reset usually wipes cache and dalvik-cache too. So factory reset by itself should do just fine
Hi guys, I use CM9 rc4 and would like to upgrade to CM9 rc5, how do I process this? I need to do it again? Or has the only upgrade? Thanks.
...
Can someone help me? I'm depending on a response to update my ROM.

Just clear Dalvik cache and cache.
And then flash the RC5 over the RC4, no need to wipe factory settings.
Just make sure u wipe the caches, but not DATA.

Wiping Dalvik Cache is not a must. I never wipe mine. And, I have no problems so far.
I've always known about wiping data, cache and dalvik cache before flashing roms. But is it also necessary to wipe system as well?

It is recommended especially if rom is different version. I always wipe the 4, I don't know why that isn't default in twrp. Obivously just don't wipe int/ext
