to check your phone rooted or not --- use Rootchecker APP
for Bootloader - connect your device to your pc and check it via flashtool

Well, if you have root access and are getting this error it's veeeery likely something changed in your system partition in a way that makes OTA fail. In that case you will need to do a full update though Sony PC Companion/SUS, updating that way will wipe your /system partition and install a fresh one (you'll lose root, keep that in mind)
If you don't have root access and keep getting this error, try clearing Update Center app data before updating, unrooted devices should work with OTA updates...

I have just updated my Sony Xperia S from 6.1.A.0.2.45 to 6.1.A.0.2.55 via PC companion, after the update I wanted to root my phone again too allow some apps to have root access. As I went to check to see if my phone was rooted I noticed that it wasn't for my apps weren't allowed super user. I then attemted to root via Bin4ry like I did previously in version .45. It didn't work.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if it has been resolved without having to unlock the bootloader / install a custom kernel, I don't want to do either of those, I just want root. Has anyone been able to root on .55 on Stock sony ICS firmware .55?

I've been reading around and they've said Bin4ry's root method hasn't yet been updated too root .55 firmware I guesss we'll have to wat :< I hope someone posts in this thread when it's released.
yup updated mine too. now i have to restart all mods,hahahaha..but the problem is the root, will try to unlock again then install custom kernel then stock kernel to gain root, then relocked again.
Simple, downgrade to .40 , root it, install CWM, download prerooted .55 system, flash via CWM , connect to flashtool, flash stock .55 ftf only kernel and baseband ...

Thanks a lot, it's not so simple but I will try! :fingers-crossed:
its looks hard, but its simple, Flash--root-cwm-flash via cwm- flash kernel and baseband... about 20mins...
the problem with flashing pre rooted system, is the change in region, ive unlocked then flash recovery nozomi then flash supersu, flash stock kernel.sin, flash cwm, then relocked and deodexed my firmware, and now im reinstalling all mods on my previous rom..hahahaha..cause dont want to change region .
So you think its better unlock BL ?

TrackID works after unlocking and relocking bootloader? I thougt it stops working because of loosing DRM-KEYS while unlocking a bootloader.

Download music info works again if you relock you BL, but TrackID (I think) and FB music likes via Walkman will not work anymore, so it's your decision if you want to lose that functions.
and lose your waranty... for this i rootet with my way...
I am trying to install the OTA update .244. It downloads and attempts to install but I always get a "could not install update" message. I have the C6506 model of the xPeria ZL. I am rooted on stock .423 firmware currently with boot loader still locked (if that makes a difference). I was hoping to update and still keep root by using Voodo Root keeper(if necessary). Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the install to fail? Thanks in advance. :crying:

I used to receive that same message when trying to install the OTA for can't remember which build. Anyway my phone was rooted with a locked bootloader but I had made some changes to the System\Apps with a few tweaks which I figured that was why mine was failing to update via OTA.
Just make a backup of your phone and flash the firmware with Flashtool, it takes 3 minutes and you can re-root the phone easily after.
It takes about 10 min total....

When rooting, if you looked at the instructions, you will need the FTF of the 423 to be able to flash the Kernel.
I want to swap internal-external sdcard or mount folder app so that I can play big games with large data. For this, I rooted my phone with Impactor, and tried remount reboot fix by NUT and reboot fix by Anto Kus. But till now the phone reboots on using folder mount. Also my phone reboots while using a dual partitioned sdcard to use it with Link2sd. I have tested root checker which shows phone is rooted. I am using Titanium Backup without any problems. Should I go for bootloader unlock?
My phone xperia m dual c2004, 4.2.2, build 15.2.A.2.5.
Thanks

I had already installed busybox and followed the procedure shown in the thread. The busybox is supported but inspite of root access, I can't change permissions in system files as a result the reboot fix is not working. Somewhere I read unlocking bootloader will help. Is it?
yes u must unlock bootloader for use full root access like change permission etc

No, you don't need to unlock your bootloader to get full root access. Try this updated version of the reboot fix and then you're fully rooted...
Unlocking your bootloader will give you full root access without using root tools, exploits, etc., but many proprietary Sony apps will not work anymore because your DRM keys will be wiped when you unlock the bootloader...

I have already backed up bootloader using TA backup and got bootloader key from Sony website. But can I claim warranty, if I restore locked bootloader? Or warranty is void, not reversible.

Ya, I know about the cons of unlocking bootloader. Thats why I am still waiting for other ways. I have also tried the fix by NUT from the forum which u gave link but still not fully rooted as it is unable to write in system folder. But other root operations like removing bloatware is done without any problems. Thats strange. Busybox is installed by NUT which supports part of the fix but the other scripts did not work in system.
By the your xm dual c2004 was updated to build 15.2.A.2.5 or is it from out of box like mine?
What script is basically not working

yes its same build 15.2.A.2.5

If not working then you may update it via sony update service and reset phone
then follow guide again to root
According to guide use the same busybox as mentioned open and install it
or try from beggining again
Here are steps
use injector
install super su from google play
open and use super su
and install it binaries
install busy box x as mentioned
then open it and install allow root access if asked
then use reboot fix by NUT
follow cmd guide
and allow adb when ask permission
then phone will reboot
Then its written wait to check fix
And then its done press continue
done
use folder mount have fun
then
My C2004 also have full root access with locked bootloader, just updated to 15.2.A.2.5 through Sony Update Service, used Cydia Impactor, installed SuperSU from Play Store and then ran the script I linked to you. After all I have full root access, can remount system without problems and my bootloader still locked...

Exact same problem here. Yes, the phone is rooted.
Hello. I am looking to update the phone because Xperia System Update has sat as a notification for almost a month now. Model number is E6853, Android version 6.0.1 and Build number 32.2.A.0.253. Can someone tell me how to go about doing this? It's been a while since I rooted the phone and honestly forgot just about everything because I followed a guide when I did it instead of using my own knowledge.
Since your fone is rooted, you'll have to 'rebuild' the Rom to include root access and possibly recovery. A search in the dev forums should give you some pointers. Unfortunately, I'm still being lazy and my Z5P is still not rooted...

FIRST put supersu (flashable zip) (SR2 of 2.78) in your SD CARD
DOWNLOAD your build (ftf) file as per country (or region) from
https://xpericheck.com/device/E6853
ORRRR ( Flashtoot.net)
you can use FLASHTOOL's XPERIFIRM (see fotos) / browse to your device and select build to download you .305 and flashtool will compile original ftf file and make it ready for your to flash! / switch off device, connect it in flashmode and perform clean flashing of .305 (as attached)
once flashed, now u need to flash kernel
download E6853.IMG from https://mega.nz/#F!KwZhjLIK!uNbDzR6lCXMaaW7jKFS1WQ!WpZAkLZC ( thanks to @KbaB.BroS)
connect device in FASTBOOT mode and select kernel to FLASH and flash E6853.img
boot , on sony logo, press volume up key, it will take u to recovery, install from zip and flash the superSU zip from sdcard.
once done, wipe delvik cache (optional)
reboot

So I decided I didn't really need the phone rooted any longer and I hit the unroot option in SuperSU. Now how do I got about updating? The update fails on install every time and gives an error about the root info of the phone.

Also, if we update the software do we lose root and all other customizations we've installed?
