Consider me a complete noob on this matter.
Now I'm trying to get lte on my m919v and I've been ready that flashing the modem to the m919 (t-mobile) would be enough to solve my problem. But I have a couple où questions I can't find the answers to
1- do i need to be rooted to flash a modem
2-will I get a Knox message if I do
3-If it's only a simple modem problem, where can I find the m919 modem

1. Yes, you must be rooted.
2. If your device has Knox bootloader, yes it will trip the counter.
3. Still going to root?

so ive been ready for days now and i'm simply trying to get lte o my phone. It seems that there's some way i can get it by simply installing a rom but all i want to change is the baseband or aka radio but is it possible to simply install the t-mobile B4 since my m919v is just a variant and the hardware is the same

Well i've tryed to find more info on the subject and nothing seems to be informative on this subject.
Guess us canadians don't buy enought galaxies everyone is and is sold to iphone they think jailbreaking is bad so imagine having to root a phone and play with this you're not suppose to touch because the little book that came with it said so

I read something somewhere about this. Someone flashed a AOSP ROM and got LTE speeds. It didn't mention TW though. Apparently they tried flashing the MDL bootloader but it didn't work. Have you tried just changing your APN to LTE?

I'm totally confused with what you're trying to say but if you mean which roms will work on your i747m its any rom in the ATT GS3 forums
but no matter if they are different I747m I747
doesnt matter though you might have to change your apns after flashing a custom rom
just incase your talking stock rom...
stock rom has the modem in it and att modem dont seem to work on i747m

I would very much like to start tinkering with my Galaxy S 4 from Wind Mobile Canada. But before I begin to do so, I'd like to have the option of returning to stock shall anything go wrong.
The phone appears to be similar to the SGH-M919 but has a different baseband and firmware.I checked sammobile.com for the stock firmware, but it isn't listed there.
AP: M919VVLUAMDC
CP: M919VVLUAMDC

Is there a way I could backup the firmware/baseband from my phone prior to rooting/installing custom recovery etc?
Thanks!
Custom recoveries like clockwork and twrp allow you to make a nandroid backup.
You're not the only Canadian with an s4.

I did look there. However, the issue is that there are 2 Canadian variants this time around.
Rogers, Bell, Virgin Mobile have opted for the AT&T variant. Whereas, Wind & Videotron have opted for the T-Mobile variant.
As such, there is very little information for the SGH-M919V. Hoping someone who sees this thread is able to post more information regarding this phone.
So I have a T-Mobile S3 that I would like to use on AT&T. I've seen a few threads that have said this was possible if I can unlock it. I haven't got the new sim for AT&T yet, but I am wanting to root the device tonight at home so I can unlock it right when I get it with Voodoo sim unlock.
I'm going to flash a rom onto it too, but I have read that it is OK to flash a ROM, but not the baseband/modem. I'm unfamiliar with T-mobile roms, so are there any roms specifically that have a new modem or baseband built into the rom?
Also, is voodoo sim unlock the best way to go? I got this device because someone I know cancelled their plan and really doubt T-mobile will give me a code for free and I don't really want to cough up money to pay to have it unlocked.
I haven't heard of anyone using voodoo.
But here's a tgread that tells you whst to do.

If you have a T999 model, only use T999 modems. Afaik you can flash att modems but they will not work right if at all. The only att stuff I know for sure you can use are some roms and some kernels. Most are already here in this forum, so I'd probably just use what you find here until you know more about the compatibility.

Oh, and imo, you shouldnt ever see a rom that flashes your modem. Maybe if its done with aroma and you can opt to not flash it, it eould be ok, but I just dont even see a reason for this.

I actually tried that, but I figured since I don't have the sim the option doesn't pop up after waiting 30 seconds...
Thanks for all that great info. So would I just be safe using t-mobile roms with an unlocked phone? I'm not really familiar with using unlocked phones on different carriers.
Yup that should be perfectly safe.
I do know that if your baseband is UVDMD5 you have to downgrade to LJC or below for that unlock to work.
I am not sure if it requires a T-Mobile sim or not.
Check your baseband though, and if its md5, flash another one and try again.

Thanks for all the answers doc, that clears up a lot.
Any chance you could recommend a rom that is similar to CleanROM?
Sorry, I'm not familiar with that one. Personally I stick with touchwiz roms. I just like them better and they tend to be more stable. But everyone likes something different. ...

I think you will need to root it and such install a custom recovery so that you can flash that older version. Check this thread for rooting info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956180
Make sure you actually read the instructions. Not reading everything fully means bricking your device. As for getting your MSL... Here's an app that might work, if it doesn't watch the YouTube video and see if that helps.
App: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.patternedsoftware.getmymsl&hl=en
