I don't tried all KitKat customs but guess you need start from CyanogenMod 11 (FXP builds).
Because all other based on it and have some changes which may cause problems.
If you will bored "clean" Android then go higher and try more customized ROM's.
I stick on pure CM11 from mid-January and can confirm that it's very stable, fast and smooth.

We do not allow best ROM/Kernel threads on XDA. Developers do not like seeing their work compared to others along with the fact that everyone has their own opinions. What's best for you may not be what is best for someone else. Best advice is to head over to the development section try some out and see which best suits your needs.

need advice to choose a custom rom

I know its kinda noob question but im really new to this scene (not to android) and had desire before so i really cant decide what custom rom to install. I need a close to stock custom maybe with some speed tweaks. Right now im leaning toward cm 10.0 and see a lot of other roms with similar options. Im asking here becouse besides the options the rom has for me its also important the stability and more to be from a trusted and active developer.
Just share your experience with the rom you use if u can i willl be thankfull just to get some orientation to the scene.
Do you also let people choose your favorite color or car manufacturer for you? Seriously, test drive some and see what works best for you?

re
wow what an answers. i simply asked and if u mind u simply dont have to answer. as for test drive not everyone has the time to play that much with flashing nor the will to try every rom out there. this place is for people to share experiences and like u smart as.s idiots to curse to everyone who whod dare to ask a noob question. if i didnt had respect for this place i wouldnt asked in Q.A and would of used development sections as many do. so if u have no intention helping someone just bugg of and mind your bussines
Well, according to your first post, CM is probably the rom for you; i still agree that you should test drive available roms. Some have more customisation options, others adopt a more debloated approach like aosp itself, and you can even build aosp by yourself!
I run a modified build of aosp put together by myself.

Rasbean Jelly is an excellent ROM, close to stock. Check out the Trnity Kernel thread. Rasbean+ Trinity, ftw !
hi. I also came from desire and so far I love the Galaxy Nexus. There's a great variety of ROMs here. So far I have tried a few, but if you are looking for a fast, stable one I would recommend Atom. I am currently on v1.25 for the maguro & I'm expecting the next version with jellybean 4.2 to drop shortly. I'm also using the Zen series kernel v7. I'm having stunning performance and battery life. over 4 hours of screen-on time with the latest kernel. it's a bit different from the other cm / aosp / aokp ROMs around. worth a shot!
alternatively, if you like 'darkness' you can try xblack. if you want to have hybrid options I.e. tablet interface on your nexus you can always give paranoid android a go. they willprobably update to 4.2 intheirlatest build expected to drop tonight anytime.
ps: haters gonna hate! ignore the un-friendlies! we all got to start somewhere.

just tried them both rasbean and atom and i like atom more but rasbean not bad also. ill try few more till a stable custom 4.2 comes around. desire scene was good but contagious it was easy to get a flashing mania and i guess this scene is also dangerous to become flash maniac not that i mind to
Well I was a flashaholic on the desire, simply because we never quite really had a stable experience on ICS and JB. So, it was a never ending quest to find a ROM (or upgrade) that was really stable and useful. Not to mention the countless issues with regards to space/sdcard/partitioning/hboot and what not!!!
I am just glad to be on Galaxy Nexus. There are some insane number of ROMs available. I try to stick to one for a couple of weeks at least and only then switch. I am now near that phase where I am itching to try something new. So, I am keeping my fingers dropped that ATOM drops the latest version (4.2) for maguro ... I know the dev already released a toro version (few days ago).
PS: You can always bookmark/subscribe to the ROM/Kernel Index (in my signature)

Bugless beast is my suggestion for essentially stock... CNA is my preference for a ROM with many customizations, but I don't believe either have a 4.2 build yet (could be wrong). Currently using MMuzzy's 4.2 ROM for my toro gnex and very pleased.

I just got the phone last week, so im new to what ROM's are out there for the phone.. Whats the difference between Touchwiz and AOSP?
I am running CM10.1 (the most recent 'stable' build)
I've been running said rom non-stop since saturday and I have noticed no bugs thus far.
If anything it seems faster and more stable than stock touchwiz.
most noticeably my battery lasts WAY longer than it used to.
Just make sure you flash the right way, with the correct Gapps
I flashed the CM first by itself, then after it booted up successfully I went back and flashed Gapps separately.
Good luck and have fun!
I'm a noob so I can't post links... but get . cm is the site for the cm zip download,
and google gapps and it should be the first thing that pops up.

All of the roms are pretty stable, the best way to find one to your liking is to browse the development forum, read the ops of the roms and find some that are to your liking and try them all out. Everybody wants different things from their phone, so asking what's the best/most stable Rom is like asking what the best sandwich is for your tastes, just gotta try them out and decide for yourself...:thumbup::thumbup: good luck in finding songwriting that suits your needs

Touchwiz is more of Samsung's addition to Android. AOSP is considered a fuller Google experience. For a stable AOSP ROM, your best bet would to be start out with CM10.1. CM10.1, an AOSP ROM, is much smoother than the S3's stock Touchwiz ROM. It runs much quicker and it often has better battery life. However, with AOSP ROMs, you lose Touchwiz features, such as "Smart Stay". You will most likely have to flash quite a few ROMs before you find one you like. I would suggest starting out by flashing the M snapshot of CM10.1 which can be downloaded here. Also, do not forget to flash the 4.2.1 gapps which you can get here. I am assuming you are rooted with a custom recovery installed. If this is the case, just look around in the dev section and you will find many tutorials giving step by step instructions how to flash specific ROMs. CM10.1 is now considerably stable and is fine for daily use.
Pros of Touchwiz: Has many nice features that make a more friendly user experience.
Cons of Touchwiz: Stock ROM is bloated. Often slower than an AOSP ROM. Usually has worse battery life than an AOSP ROM.
Pros of AOSP ROMs: Smoother user experience. Better battery life. Full Google experience. Developers often update these ROMs faster.
Cons of AOSP ROMs: Does not have as many features as Touchwiz.
Aosp is also a lot more customizable.
I consider my phone to be pretty great looking.
And it's pretty stock lol

Most of the roms on this forum are quite stable. Just read the first couple posts of the thread then read at least the last 10 pages. That'll give you a pretty good idea of any problems that may arise. But apart from that, it's really just a matter of preference. Some roms may do certain things that others don't. TW roms and AOSP-based roms are fairly different. AOSP-type roms are usually less bloated and therefore quicker however, TW roms can be just as smooth. My personal preferences for each type are:
AOSP: CM 10.1
TW: Goodness Rom (on team-nocturnal forums, also my absolute favorite thus far) or The People's Rom

@OP, this thread will most likely get closed because you will have a different meaning of "stable" and what makes a rom good as well. No one but you can know yadda yadda, long story short -> Just flash roms that have nice screenshots and try out as many as you can

All ROMs are great and stable for those that use them. All you will get here is opinions and a closed thread. There is no substitute for reading about the software you plan on drastically altering your $600 device with.

AOSP or Touchwiz variants

I'm looking for a new ROM to try out other than cyanogenmod 11 and am wondering if some of you could recommend some good ones
Looking for: light ui, stable, fast, preferably 4.4 or 4.3 touchwiz and updates to the latest and greatest (doesn't need to be everyday)
If anyone can recommend some and tell me there expierences with them that would be awesome

We don't allow comparison threads as they often lead to arguments and fighting among the users.
The best place to find out about a specific ROM is in that ROM's thread. Read what other users are saying, bugs they are reporting and feedback to and from the developer(s). We encourage you to check out the different ROM threads and to find one or two that you like, flash them and run them. If you like one stick with it. If not, flash a different one.
Or if you are like the majority of us XDA users you'll flash one, run it for a week and then flash another, and another, and another, and another.
Thank you,
Rwilco12

[Q] Most stable 4.4 rom

I have a very simple question. What do we HOX users think is the most stabel 4.4 rom. I know that there are not yet fully covered 4.4 roms but the development is ongoing. So i asking what do the users think as the most stable 4.4 rom till now.
I now comparison threads arent allowed on the xda forum, but im not asking to make a comparison. This would be impossible due to all the users preferences. But we all on xda are most probably rom hoppers, we have our own experiences (which is what makes xda great). So based on this empiric learning we can conclude which rom would most likely be the preferred rom.

Try them all and take decision. And this is comparasion thread becouse if somebady say this ROM is good ather will seay no this rom is not good other is good and will start fight in the thread and a lot of offtopic and angry post between users. It is usless thread. My suggestion is read all 4.4 roms thread try them all and take decision witch is good and stable for you.
CM 11 Christmas release was solid for me on original Kernel but I tried a new Kernel and battery was bad. The nightlies made it worse so I switched..
AOSPA - Memory leaks and bad battery but smooth as with CM - only had 2 force closes.
I have downloaded Omni but not yet installed it.
Go with the suggestion above and try a few see what you like. They have all been smooth for the first few days and all have different niggles.
I think CM should be close to a stable release now.

Whats the best G3 rom?

Hi all, I'm currently running the stock rom for my lg g3 and I wanted to have a stable custom rom preferably asop or based on cm12. I need it to be able to be used daily without any problems and be quick. Cm12 is a nightly so I didn't think it would be that stable so is there any ROMs that are really stable for the g3? Thanks
CandyRoms are pretty reliable. I'm running as daily for over a year now. Stable

Good luck!
Read the rules, you don't ask that on here.
Best thing try for yourself till you find one you like. What one person thinks is best is not necessarily what you would think is best.

As you assumed "Nightlies" are not for everyone and sometimes introduce bugs...however mostly anything else is stable for the people using it. There is NO SUCH THING as a BEST ROM for everyone. Each person has customized what they are using for their setup, usage, signal, and what they like. You will not have the same preferences. So you need to read the first couple of posts for ROMs you are interested in, which should contain any known issues as well as the features included, then read the last 50 posts or so to see if any new issues have come up if you are interested after reading the first few posts...then back up and try it for a few days.
Happy flashing!
