[Q] Any advantages of 4.3? - Sony Xperia M

Does having 4.3 official benefit me in installing custom rom? I don't like the update and want to flash back to 4.1.2. Also, my phone is 3 UK branded with bootloader locked, no root. Can I just flash generic ftf? Can I leave wipe data unticked or will 4.3 data be incompatiable with 4.1.2? Same with cache?
Thanks in advance

Yes you can flash ftf, you don't need root for that and you can leave the data and cache unticked but it's better to wipe it and flash a fresh firmware. And for installing custom rom you don't have to be on 4.3 but you do need an unlocked bootloader... Hit thanks if I helped

It depends on Roms, New Roms will only Work on 4.3's baseband, So it's better to be on Latest firmware.

Update from UVDLI3

Hi all,
I am wondering how can I update from UVDLI3 to UVDLI8. Ideally I would love to do so without:
rooting the device
using CWM
wiping the device (I would understand if this is a must)
Ideas? If it is not possible to do keeping all of those points into consideration, I would still like to know how to do it otherwise.
Thanks in advance

Odin to LH2 then install LI8 from stock recovery. No need to root or install a custom recovery, but Odin will wipe your data.

Going from a JB rom to a ICS rom he will bootloop if he Odins back to LH2. He will have to perform a factory reset, then Odin back to LH2.
Where did you find the UVDLI8 ROM? I had it before but I lost it and now I can't login to sammobile or find it on the internet....

you can just ODIN back to ICS...Since it will completely wipe out.
Stock flash with Odin will replace everything, baseband included.
Odin.
Just using a twrp backup won't revert to the ics baseman will it? I believe I tried and was still getting jelybean battery drain.

nandroid does not backup baseband, only kernel, system, cache, recovery, and data.

[Q] If I flash a new stock ROM through CWM, will my root be gone?

Soon the 4.3 stock firmware will come out, but since my mom's phone is rooted it won't allow the OTA update.
Now I have CWM flashed and obviously the phone is rooted, will a flash of the new firmware and a cache/dalvik cache wipe suffise?
Or should I get a pre-rooted ROM and flash that?
I assume since this is a stock 'update' a Factory Wipe is not required, am I wrong to think this?
Thank you and sorry for this question but nothing came up in search
If u flash a pre-rooted rom, root will be present ofcourse..but if you flash stock rom via odin, u will lose root and need to root it again.

Official upgrades can`t be flashed in cwm.. Only with odin... If you are on stock rom now, flash it over with odin without any wipes and you will fine.. But if you have a custom rom you must be carefull `cause you will lose root, cwm, maybe data and your system will become odexed and none of the patches/mods will work again.

oh ok, thanks buddy
You can also find the stock rom made for CWM, it's already rooted and deodexed. A LOT of junk removed. All stuff works. (No system updates; who needs it anyway) This might help you.

BootLoop after downgrade

My M919 has MM on it. I want to unlock it. I downgrade the modem to MDL first.
It still working when MM using MDL modem.
Then I flash TMB-M919UVUFNB4-20140314115123 on it.
Now it's bootloop on the T-mobile screen.
My bootloader is FOK3 before I flash TMB-M919UVUFNB4-20140314115123.
Basically, I need it unlock and get my phone work.
please help.
Thank you.
EDIT, now I flash the M919UVUFOK3 and still bootloop.
I believe the phone must be running a stock rom before downgrading the modem.

when i flash the M919UVUFNB4 and M919UVUFOK3, i think it would downgrade my modem to FNB4 and FOK3 respectively.
Are you going to unlock via code or regionlockaway? Unlock code requires a stock Samsung dialler. Regionlockaway requires a stock Samsung rom running the old modem and root.
If it's bootlooping, perform a factory wipe using stock recovery before booting the stock rom for the first time.

unlock code need samsung dialer mean stock samsung rom, right?
anyway, when i tried to flash stock rom, it bootloop, I tried factory reset in Twrp. but it's not helping.
Wipe needs to be done with stock recovery.

could you tell me how?
so i flash the stock rom, then where do i look for stock recovery?
Flash stock rom then use the volume up and power to boot into recovery. Use the same method that is used to boot into twrp.
