Hi, so got my M8 a few days and is my first time with kitkat, which is giving me some problems.
First is where has all my storage space gone, installed some and games and now only have 4gb left on 16gb phone?
A quick at storage settings and it usage shows
Apps 7gb
Other 5gb
Music and phones just a few hundred mb.
So what is this other category?
I have installed NFS most wanted, but i used to be able to store the data files on ext SDcard, same for MC4!
I tried moving NFC to ext sdcard, it moves the app, but it does not move the data?
If use the HTC Make more Space feature it shows apps at taking only 0.9 gb
I know kitkat has screwed up ext sdcard access, but why can't it move data to sdcard when i moves app ok?
The other issue i have with storage on ext sdcard is organising files, i have edited storage setting so everything is stored on ext sdcard.
I am photographer so being able to organise my images into folders is important, but how the hell can this be done with kitkat for files on ext sdcard as now file and photo mangers cannot write to ext sdcard?
If use the HTC Make more space available feature under storage it just moves all photos to one big folder on ext sdcard?
I tried the HTC Sync software on OSX and can create a new album and add photos stored ext sdcard to it, but it just creates the new album on internal memory and not ext scard?
This is so f***Up
There is not even any rime or reason with google apps, snapseed writes edited files to its own folder outside of gallery or dcim folder, and there is no way selecting what folder you want to write to?
I really don't want to root phone as need to be able to use banking apps that won't work with rooted phones.
Aside from having to remove sdcard every time to want to add or organise files on sdcard i am at a loss as to what to do?
really not happy with this new write restriction, even though the intention are good.
Any ideas welcome
thanks

Hi,
I noticed that some apps, for example droid comic viewer, camera 360, etc. would make a new folder in my SD card. Everytime I deleted those folders, the apps get deleted too.
All other 75+ apps I had, did not make new folders in my sd card.
There are also apps such as "vintage comic droid" that makes a new folder with a "." before it. This . means it is system files right ? Why do this one apps make system folder instead of regular folder like any other apps?
Does this means some apps are being installed directly to sd card, instead of EXT3 partition that I purposely setup for A2SD ?
through trial and errors, I now knows what has caused this. It was because application install settings in spare parts. When set to external, apps would go to SD card, instead of ext3 partition.
btw, can I delete these folders inside SD ?

Just got my GS2 today and I must say this is the easiest phone I have rooted to date! I have been working my way around the OS and found that apps are not seeing my files on my External SD Card. Is there a way to sort of sync these? I guess I dont mean sync, but have apps search both internal and external storage for files? Take beautiful widgets, I have a ton of images on the ex sd card. When I launch the app to apply one of those images it looks in phone storage and gives no option to search the ex sd card.
Thanks

easiest thing would to move everything to the internal sd card. i dont like how the phone sees SD card (internal) then from there i have to navigate to the folder called 'external sd' to look at my microSD files.

Exactly, but what good is it to have an external card if the apps dont use it? If I have to move everything to the internal card, what can I put on the external card and be able to use/access? None of my apps recognize the external card, lol.
i use my external sdcard for music & movie business and use the internal for everything else. i sync back & forth between pc & cell a lot so having a CLEAN (aka, none of those extra android folders) sdcard makes browsing and syncing much easier, cleaner, and organized. also, without that android bloat i can tell exactly how much goodies i have just by looking at the size of external sdcard
ps: external sdcard is more or less just a subdir on the internal sdcard.... its /sdcard/external_sd if i remember correctly.
i just slap my movie files onto thte internal sd since i delete them afterwards... didnt realize 16 gb is a lot of space lol
I removed some movies from the internal memory but when i go to storage, the available free space is the same as when the movies where there. I held the movie file down and selected delete when the pop up menu came up.
Any suggestions to clear the inetrnal memory or do i need to format the usb storage which will delete everything from internal memory?
Thanks,
Ian B
i have a question about memory on my phone..
SD card = 7.40GB / 5.38GB free
INternalStorage = 6.4GB / 6.17GB Free?

Use a file explorer like Astro or ES File Explorer to manually place files (pics, movies, music) on the internal memory. Otherwise, plug your phone into a computer and place the files onto the internal memory. Courtesy of HTC, apps save to the "Phone Memory" using 150 mb's of the 748 mb. The main alternate save location for apps is the sd card thus the reason there is a "Move to sd card" option within each app's settings under "Settings/Applications/Manage Applications."

The 6 GB's of internal memory is listed as "emmc" and is inaccessible only if the rom dev says so. I'm not sure you are searching for the proper term, are you able to see "emmc" within your file manager? I took a look at Wildstang's Desired HD thread and his latest version supports emmc (internal memory). If I recall correctly, earlier versions did not have access to internal GB (the 6GB's of space) because the port is from a phone with no internal storage but this is no longer the case. You should be able to move photos, videos, music to emmc especially since you said have access to it via your computer.
1) Are you on his latest update?
2) What specifically are you asking for help with (moving apps or simply accessing that space)?
Edit: For moving apps, the most I know is that you can move apps to sd or back to your phone. In regards to expanding the 150mb partition of your internal memory, I have no experience doing so. Hopefully someone else can provide input on this.

thank you for the explanation..
i beleave i am running the latest version. (V.5) of Wildstang
yeah i was just wondering if there was a way to move contacts and aps to that internal memory so the other phone memory would be less crowded and maybe run smoother.
i dont understand how this memory is being used.. there is an internal SD memory.. that i guess is partitioned.. and the smaller partition is used for all the functions of the phone? what is the larger partition used for then?
so i can drop images and music to that section then from the PC
and put aps on the external SD only..
I believe I misinformed you, the 748mb's of of phone storage is all for apps. Im trying to recall where and why I got 150 mb's from.
748 mb = app storage
6.x gb of internal storage (emmc) = Whatever you want to save (music, videos, photos)
7.4 gb sd card = save music, videos, some apps, photos
Hope that clarifies appropriately.
But to use the internal storage, just copy and paste movie or music files to the emmc (if using file explorer on your phone) or using your computer into either "Mp3" folder or "Video" on the Internal memory. I don't play movies on my phone so I don't have experience with that at all. You'll know which is the internal memory vs. Sd card memory if you just look at the space available to identify one from the other.
I've been trying to free up some space on my internal memory by transferring nearly all my apps to my sd card using the "move to sd card' option in 4.3
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to transfer all all apps after giving the command. I check in app manager/sd card and they are all listed as transferred and they even have the "sd card app" size listed ,yet the largest apps are still on the internal storage, as the obb data are still there.
I've tried copying the entire obb folder to my sd card but I have no idea how to link the path so that the apps execute properly. If i try opening an app after deleting the obb file from internal default storage path, it just re-downloads the file from the server.
This is really annoying. I have just about every app "transferred" yet I'm nearly out of storage space. If I check the properties of my obb folder on internal storage its nearly 6 gb!
I have root. Please shoot me some ideas as to how to fix this, as i have been searching high and low the past 2 hours trying to find a work around.
I've also cleared about every cache and unneeded file.
Thanks!
i was just wondering is it possible to edit a app ?:
so that rather installing the videos and documents and audio to internal storage to , install to the /extsdcard instead
also look into the sdcard for said files instead of internal storage
Let's see here... I use xposed Downloads to SD, and many apps find what I put on SD. Some apps need to be moved to SD to find the data. fortunately, Android 4.x allows most apps to be moved to SD, so no special apps are needed.
So far all my media apps including Studio, Gallery, Hi-speed camera, Stock video player, and MX Player do just fine finding media both on SD and internal.
If you want defaults to SD storage, you will have to edit the config file associated with the app, if the app does not have a feature to change storage location. Not all apps have a config file nor use the ssystem.db database.
i have one app that can be moved to sd but still downloads its documents/videos/audio to internal storage ,, it doesnt matter if the app is on sd card or internal it always looks for the folders in internal storage even if i move the folders manualy
hmm sorry didnt read properly trying it out now
Gooberdude i salute you thanks for that , by using downloads2sd, i set the two main folders up for music and movies onto sd card, re-install the app and redownload from app, this binded the file on sd card to the app
exactly what i was looking for
thanx again
Your welcome!
